根据上文“it started to snow”和下文“the snow did not slow down the train”以及首字母“L”提示可知,开始下雪,但是下雪未影响行车,这是很幸运的事情;考查luckily“幸运地”,副词,在句中修饰整个句子,作状语,位于句首,首字母要大写。
根据直接引语“I can’t believe this! This country has modern railway, but the train must stop for a group of animals!”
根据下文“The cows could damage the engine”和首字母“c”提示可知,牛群可能损坏引擎,所以此处是指他别无选择,只能等待;考查choice“选择”,名词,have no choice“别无选择”,固定搭配。
根据下文“Isn’t there a better idea? Perhaps…?”
根据上文“If the train moves at its top speed, the pressure on the bridge won’t be as great as it was when it was stationary.”
根据下文“just in time to see the bridge fall into the deep valley behind them”可知,恰好及时看到那座桥坠入身后的深谷,所以此处是指冲桥过程时间极短,只有几秒钟;考查second“秒”,名词;空前“a few”后接名词复数,所以这里应用second的复数形式seconds。故填(s)econds。

Do you have trouble remembering things you’ve read? Scientists at RMIT University in Australia have come up with a new font (字体) that can help you remember by making words harder to read.

How much pocket money do you get? How do you spend it? The Blue Book of Chinese Teenager Financial (金融的) Education (2024), a book released in March, shows that social activities now take up more of teenagers spending.
The book was about teenagers’ spending habits. It was based on studies in nine cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The results show that students are spending more and more on their relationships with friends and classmates, such as having meals together and buying birthday gifts.
Only one-third of high school students think about the price when choosing gifts. Most say they only care about what their friends like.
Xia Hao, 17, a student at Gaoyou Normal School in Jiangsu, spent more than 1,000 yuan on his birthday meal this February. “They had given me gifts. If I hadn’t done anything in return, I’d have lost face,” Xia said.
Xia’s experience is quite normal among his peers (同龄人). A meal can cost a student’s pocket money for a month. Many just ask more from parents when they use up their money.
