A key chapter in her journey was her experience in China, a major agricultural powerhouse. Palazzo earned a full scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Chinese studies at the Agriculture School of Renmin University of China. During field trips with her international classmates, Palazzo was deeply impressed by China’s agricultural creation. In a village in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, she was amazed by how local family farms maximized small spaces for production using advanced technology, rather than relying on large pieces of land. She also noticed the wide variety of agricultural products from different regions of China available in supermarkets. “One similarity between China and Brazil is that both countries focus on improving land productivity,” she said. With a degree in agriculture and a strong background in agribusiness, Palazzo believes that agricultural production is not just about farming — it’s deeply connected with economics, politics, culture, logistics, and marketing. Palazzo currently leads the agri-inputs department at a company in Brazil, where she is actively involved in the agribusiness sector and works closely with many Chinese companies. “My study experience in China gave me a whole new perspective on the industry,” she said. It helped her better understand the dynamics of the Chinese market and how to work with Chinese entrepreneurs (企业家). She believes there is huge potential for partnership between China and Brazil in terms of industry and agriculture. With growing China-Brazil ties and China’s expanding influence in the global economy, Palazzo has made cooperation with China a key part of her future career plans. 4. What inspired Palazzo’s lifelong enthusiasm for agriculture? A. Her study experience in China. B. Her growing up in the countryside of Brazil. C. Her work in a company in Brazil. D. Her cooperation with Chinese entrepreneurs. 5. What impressed Palazzo during her field trips in China? A. The high education level of Chinese farmers. B. The low price of agricultural products in China. C. The large pieces of farmland in Chinese villages. D. China’s agricultural creation and use of advanced technology. 6. What can we infer from the last paragraph about Palazzo? A. She will play a vital role in China-Brazil agricultural cooperation. B. She will focus more on Brazilian domestic market. C. She plans to promote Brazilian family farming models to other countries. D. She intends to return to China for further studies in agricultural economics. 7. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. China-Brazil Ties in Global Economy B. Palazzo’s Learning Experience in China C. The Similarities Between China and Brazil in Agriculture D. Palazzo: A Promoter in Connecting Chinese and Brazilian Agribusiness C Most of us want to get in shape and be healthy. For many of us nutrition (营养) and watching what we eat is an important way to stay healthy. But when it comes to food, what is calorie counting, and what are the positives and negatives of it? A law in the UK came into force in April 2022 that requires restaurants, takeaways, and cafes to display the calorie information of non-pre-packed food and soft drinks on their menus. It’s a strategy aimed to deal with obesity (肥胖) and give people a more informed choice of what goes down into their stomachs. Being able to count calories and know how much we can eat is a great way to try and stay on track with our diet. However, there are some disbelievers when it comes to calorie counting. 200 calories of fresh fruit and 200 calories of junk food, for example cookies, have the same caloric value. However, there is a question of the health benefits of what you’re eating, regardless of calories. While fresh fruit like apples contains things like vitamin C, junk food could contain an unhealthy level of sugar and fats. Likewise (同样地), fruit may fill you up and leave you not wanting more food for longer than a biscuit with equal calories - meaning, overall, you eat less. Simply counting calories, while useful for weight loss, doesn’t take into account your intake of good fats, carbohydrates, and proteins - things that your body needs. So, if you’re trying to stick to a low-carbon diet, just looking at numbers of calories on a menu won’t be that useful. So, always be mindful that what you’re eating is part of a healthy balanced diet. 8. What’s the aim of the newly-passed law in the UK? A. To ensure food security. B. To direct the food industry. C. To help reduce obesity. D. To get tough with the businessmen. 9. What opinion do disbelievers hold? A. Calorie alone doesn’t contribute to health. B. Junk food has more calories than fresh fruit. C. Less calories mean less food in your stomach. D. Sugar and fats are more harmful than calories. 10. What’s the text mainly about? A. The best way to keep in shape. B. A research result of obesity in the UK. C. Nutrition and its health benefit. D. Opinions and comments on calorie counting. 11. From which section of a magazine is this text most likely taken? A. Entertainment. B. Lifestyle. C. Finance. D. Education. D Adults are often ashamed to ask for help. Seeking someone’s help can make you feel like you are broadcasting your inability. New research suggests young children don’t seek help in school for the same reason. Kayla Good, a graduate student at Stanford University, and Alex Shaw, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, applied a classic technique to learn more about how children think about reputation: Across several studies, they asked 576 children aged four to nine, to predict the behavior of two characters, Tom and Jack, in a story. Tom genuinely wanted to be smart, and Jack only wanted to seem smart to others. In one study, they told children both characters did poorly on a test, and asked which of them would be more likely to raise their hands in front of their class to ask the teacher for help. The four-year-olds were equally likely to choose either of the two characters as the one who would seek help. But by age seven or eight, children thought Jack would be less likely to ask for help. And children's expectations were truly “reputational” in nature — they were specially thinking about how the characters would act in front of peers. They could still imagine situations where Jack would seek help: when it could be sought privately (on a computer rather than in person), children thought both characters were equally likely to ask for it. Given the findings, it seems quite possible that when children themselves are the ones struggling, they, too, might avoid seeking out help if they are concerned about reputation. If so, the unwillingness to seek help when others are present could clearly impede learning progress. To improve in any field, one must work hard, take on challenging tasks, and ask questions. However, the situation can be difficult when someone is concerned about their impressions on others. 12. What were the children asked to predict about the two characters? A. Their bad behaviors. B. Their learning progress. C. Their likeliness to get help. D. Their potential for seeking help. 13. Who was likely to seek private aid according to the eight-year-olds? A. Tom. B. Jack. C. Both. D. Neither. 14. What does the underlined word “impede” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Prevent. B. Ensure. C. Quicken. D. Monitor. 15. What is the author’s suggestion for kids? A. Be ready to help others. B. Be brave to ask for help. C. Care more about reputation. D. Make efforts to be smarter. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 I have now learned that there are a few easy things to do to make a great first impression. It all comes down to three things, according to human behavior investigator Vanessa Van Edwards. ____16____ Show your hands in a friendly way. “The easiest thing you can do to improve your first impression is to keep your hands visible,” says Van Edwards. This means keeping your hands out of your pockets and in sight whenever you meet a new person. ____17____ Van Edwards notes that job candidates who use more hand gestures in their interviews are more likely to get hired. On the other hand, a perfect handshake is also important when meeting someone new. ____18____ Never miss out on the opportunity to shake someone’s hand and make sure it is effective by keeping your hand dry and firm. Stand like a winner. ____19____ In fact, it has been shown that having a high degree of confidence is more important than reputation (名声) to earn a memorable first impression. ____20____ The third and final point is using the right amount of eye contact. We like people who look at us more. Therefore, we should avoid looking away shyly when we meet someone new. People often worry about making too much eye contact, but that is unlikely to happen. Van Edwards says that we should ho id eye contact for 60%—70% of the time when having a conversation with someone. A. Make eye contact. B. Don’t look into one’s eyes long. C. This gesture of your hands puts people at ease. D. They are your hands, your posture, and your eye contact. E. Make sure to make the full handshake instead of just waving to them. F. This year, I celebrated it at home with my family. We decorated the house with red lanterns and Spring Festival couplets, which filled every corner with a festive atmosphere. On New Year’s Eve, we had a big family reunion dinner with all kinds of delicious traditional dishes. After that, we watched the Spring Festival Gala on TV and set off fireworks at midnight. I really enjoyed this festival. It made me feel the warmth and love of my family. It also strengthened the bonds between us. I hope you can come to China to experience this wonderful festival one day. Yours, Li Hua 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
