Domestic cats are, by their nature, more independent than dogs. While they may not rely upon people to feel safe as dogs do, many cats show love towards their owners. Cats behaved towards humans in the same way that they respond to other cats. So the secret of whether your cats feel bonded to you lies in their behavior. One of the most obvious signs that your cancer fond of you is the way that they greet you. Her tail held in the upright flag pole position, shows a friendly intention, indicating familiar and trust. Cats sometimes twist their tails together as a sign of friendship. They usually wrapped their tails around people's legs to show affection. Rolling over and exposing their stomachs is another gesture that a cat has the greatest trust in you. This is not usually a request for a belly rub. Attempts to stroke a cats belly will often result in an escape. Your cats might also secretly show their love in the way they look at you. When cats encounter strange humans or other cats, they don't know. They usually greet them with a stair, but they'll likely to slowly blink at cats they have a good relationship with. There are thousands of incredible trails that allow us to get up close to nature and here are 4 of the best hiking trails in the world.
Pennine Way, the United Kingdom
Stretching 268 miles from the Derbyshire Peak District to the Scottish Borders, the Pennine Way is the United Kingdom's most famous long-distance path. The entire walk takes around three weeks, passing over wild east of Manchester and through the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, before crossing the ancient border of Hadrian's Wall and moving on toward Scotland.
Camino de Santiago de Compostela, Spain
Rather than following a single path, the Camino, also known as the Way of St James, is actually a series of different pilgrimage (朝圣) routes. The most popular modern route follows a line across northern Spain from the French Pyrenees. While some choose to stay at monasteries (修道院) along the way, plenty of operators offer hotel stays and luggage transfers.
Appalachian Trail, the United States
Extending for 2,200 miles, the Appalachian Trail is billed as the longest hiking-only footpath in the world. It runs from Springer in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine, passing through some of the most remote places in the United States. Those keen on comfort can use companies like Go Shenandoah, which offers pre-booked accommodation and packed lunches.
The Basho Wayfarer, Japan
This self-guided trip follows a route taken by the poet Matsuo Basho over 300 years ago. The six-day hike starts in Sendai and works its way through the northern Toboku region, passing through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hiraizumi and along the ancient Dewa Kaido path, with its wonderful forests, before heading into the mountains of Natagiri-toge and finishing at the temple of Yamadera.

My mother, who wasn’t good at driving and using technology, planned to drive for Uber, an online platform that provides ride-hailing (打车) services.
One day on her way home from grocery shopping, she turned on the app, which matched her quickly with a rider named Matthew. As she made her way toward him, the panic seized her — the silent navigation (导航), the distracting screen and the swipe/ tap confusion. It was just too much. Naturally, she turned off her phone. She did not cancel the ride, nor did she contact him to explain. She turned her car and raced toward home.
A few minutes later, Mom turned on her phone to check her text messages. She had several missed calls from Matthew, who had been watching her on his screen and had seen her drive in the opposite direction for the past five minutes.
Matthew called again. She hesitated, and then picked up the phone. “Why are you driving in the opposite direction?” he asked. “Listen,” she explained. “This is my first time with Uber, and I don’t know how to use it.”
Then Mom found the destination and Matthew got in the car. Matthew was a handsome man in his early thirties with a kind face. Mom told Matthew he would need to manage the technology if he wanted to arrive on time.
“So, start the trip,” she requested and tossed her phone to Matthew. He was glad of service. They laughed, talked and eventually arrived at Yorkdale — although at the wrong entrance.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “It’s OK,” laughed Matthew. “Everyone is a beginner at some point.” He ended the trip, returned her phone and started to climb out of the car.
“Matthew,” she called from her window, “you’d better not rate me one star.” “I’m rating you five right now!” he said and he really did.
Matthew disappeared into the mall, smiling. She smiled, too, proud that her first ride was such a success.
24. Why did the author’s mother turn off her phone?
A. She was at a loss what to do then.
B. She had difficulty in finding Matthew.
C. She couldn’t get in touch with Matthew.
D. She had something urgent to deal with.
25. What did Matthew do before he met the author’s mother?
A. He canceled the order. B. He followed her car home.
C. He issued a warning. D. He phoned her several times.
26. What can we learn about the author’s mother and Mattew’s trip?
A. It took shorter than usual. B. It led to a lasting friendship.
C. They had a great time during it. D. They didn’t get along well during it.
27. Which of the following words can best describe Matthew?
A. Humorous. B. Understanding. C. Intelligent. D. Responsible.

Honeybees rely heavily on flower patterns not just colors when searching for food, new research shows.
A team led by the University of Exeter tested bee behaviour and built bee’s-eye-view simulations (模拟装置) to work out how they see flowers.
Honeybees have low resolution vision, so they can only see a flower’s pattern clearly when they are within few centimeters. However, the new’ study shows bees can very effectively distinguish between different flowers by using a combination of colour and pattern.
In a series of tests, bees rarely ignored pattern, suggesting colour alone does not lead them to flowers. This may help to explain why some colours that are visible to bees are rarely produced by flowers in nature.
“We studied a large amount of data on plants and bee behaviour,” said Professor Natalie Hempel, from Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour. “By training and testing bees using man-made patterns of shape and colour, we found they relied flexibly on their ability to see both of these elements. Showing how insects see colour and learn colour patterns is important to understand how pollinators (传粉者) may, or may not, create evolutionary ‘pressures’ on the colours and patterns that flowers have evolved (进化). Our findings suggest that flowers don’t need to evolve too many different flower colours, because they can use patterns to vary their displays so bees can tell them apart from other flowers.”
One typical feature identified in the study is that the outside edges of flowers usually contrast strongly with the plant’s leaves while the centre of the flower does not have such a strong contrast with the leaf colour. This could help bees quickly identify colour differences and find their way to flowers.
While flowers may be beautiful to humans, Professor Hempel stressed that understanding more about bees and the threats they face meant we need to see the world “through the eyes of a bee and the mind of a bee.”
28. What does the new research focus on?
A. The source of bees’ food supply. B. The way of bees finding flowers.
C. The effect of bees’ poor eyesight. D. The evolution of bees’ behavior.
29. What does Hempel think of flowers trying to evolve more colours?
A. It’s not a must. B. It’s a pressing need.
C. It’s beyond belief. D. It’s a temporary solution.
30. What’s paragraph 6 mainly about?
A. An explanation of the research intention.
B. Dramatic changes in the research strategy.
C. Conflict between different research outcomes.
D. Supporting evidence for the research findings.
31. What aspect of research into bees did Hempel highlight?
A. Research data. B. Research methods.
C. Research objects. D. Research frequency.

How to Make Fitness Your First Priority (首要事情)
There is no denying the fact that exercise is an essential part of maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle. But if you’re just struggling to make it your focus, every day can feel like a challenge. The good news is that making fitness your top priority is actually simpler than you might expect.
____32____
Everyone wants to believe that they will feel motivated for a vigorous workout in the evening after work. ____33____ Instead of pushing your workout to the evening and then potentially deciding to skip it, start your day with exercise. This will create a solid foundation for you to work for the rest of the day.
Create proper goals
There’s nothing more motivating than knowing you’ll have the satisfaction of reaching a benchmark (基准). Create real goals for yourself: write them down and let them be the driving factor that gets you up in the morning. ____34____.
Be consistent
____35____ Get ahead of this issue by creating a set time when you will work out. House Method recommends being consistent with your exercise until it begins to feel like a habit. This will allow you to include fitness as part of your routine, so that it becomes less of a “to-do” and more of a natural part of your day.
____36____ So whether you’re new to your workout routine or have been going to the gym for years, these quick, simple tips can help you reframe your approach so that fitness truly is your top focus.
A. Work out in the morning
B. Exercise at home anytime
C. However, by that time, you’re least enthusiastic about workout.
D. One of the biggest problems to fitness training is inconsistency.
E. There are countless services available for any type of exercise routine.
F. These days, it’s easier than ever to make fitness your number one priority.
G. Once you reach one significant point, you can begin stepping up your game for the next one.

My Best Teaching Experience
Tyler was only in my senior class for a semester. He had been suspended (使停学) many times in previous years because of his anger issues. When he entered my class, I thought the worst.
Tyler sat in the back row. Every time I talked to the class, I would ask students questions, calling them by name. Unfortunately, every time I called on Tyler, he would respond with a joke. If he got an answer wrong, he would become angry.
About a month into the year, I was still trying to connect with Tyler. I can usually get students involved in class discussions or at least have them sit quietly and attentively (专心地). By contrast, Tyler was often loud and sometimes rude.
He had been in so much trouble over the years. He expected his teachers to know about his past; about how many times he had been sent to the office or suspended from school. I had found that these sorts of referrals (移交) were not very effective and that students would return from the office behaving worse than before.
One day, Tyler was talking over me while I was teaching. I stopped my lesson and said, “Tyler, why don’t you join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” With that, he got up from his chair, pushed it over and yelled something. I can’t remember what he said other than that he included some impolite words. I sent Tyler straight to the office, and he received a week’s suspension.
To this point, this was one of my worst teaching experiences. Tyler’s anger was almost too much for me. The week Tyler was suspended from school was a wonderful time, and we got a lot accomplished as a class. However, the suspension week would soon come to an end, and I was fearful of his return.
续写要求:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him.

听下面一段独白,回答以下小题。【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】
18. What does the research show?
A. Cats rely upon humans to feel safe.
B. Cats treat humans like their fellows.
C. Cats’ reputation as a cold pet is true.
19. Why do cats expose their stomachs?
A. To beg for food. B. To ask for a belly stroke. C. To show their trust.
20. How do cats greet other cats they don’t know?
A. By staring at other cats.
B. By raising their tails.
C. By touching the legs of other cats.
【答案】18. B 19. C 20. A
【解析】
【原文】M: Research shows cats’ reputation as a cold pet is untrue because of their evolutionary ancestry. Domestic cats are by their nature more independent than dogs. While they may not rely upon people to feel safe as dogs do, many cats show love towards their owners. Cats behave towards humans in the same way that they respond to other cats, so the secret of whether your cats feel bonded to you lies in their behaviour.
One of the most obvious signs that your cats are fond of you is the way that they greet you. A tail held in the upright flagpole position shows a friendly intention indicating familiarity and trust. Cats sometimes twist their tails together as a sign of friendship. They usually wrap their tails around people’s legs to show affection. Rolling over and exposing their stomachs is another gesture that a cat has the greatest trust in you.
This is not usually a request for a belly rub. Attempts to stroke a cat’s belly will often result in an escape. Your cat might also secretly show their love in the way they look at you. When cats encounter strange humans or other cats they don’t know, they usually greet them with a stare, but they are likely to slowly blink at cats they have a good relationship with.

第一节 (共15小题;每小题2. 5分,满分27. 5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
There are thousands of incredible trails that allow us to get up close to nature and here are 4 of the best hiking trails in the world.
21. Which hiking trail will allow hikers to see the old wall?
A. Pennine Way. B. Appalachian Trail.
C. The Basho Wayfarer. D. Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
22. What can we learn about Camino de Santiago de Compostela, Spain?
A. It was a series of different pilgrimage routes.
B. It is the longest hiking-only footpath in the world.
C. Hikers on the course can get the desired help.
D. Hikers on the two trails may get across several countries.
23. Which section of the newspaper is the passage taken from?

【答案】24. A 25. D 26. C 27. B
根据第二段中“As she made her way toward him, the panic seized her — the silent navigation, the distracting screen and the swipe/tap confusion. It was just too much. Naturally, she turned off her phone. (当她走向他的时候,她突然感到恐慌——无声的导航,让人分心的屏幕,还有滑动/点击的困惑。实在是太过分了。很自然地,她关了手机)”可知,作者母亲关掉手机是因为她对于优步软件的使用以及手机操作感到困惑不知所措,因此选择关掉了手机。故选A项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“A few minutes later, Mom turned on her phone to check her text messages. She had several missed calls from Matthew, who had been watching her on his screen and had seen her drive in the opposite direction for the past five minutes. (几分钟后,妈妈打开手机查看短信。她有几个马修的未接来电,马修一直在屏幕上看着她,在过去的五分钟里看到她朝相反的方向开车)”可知,马修在见到作者母亲之前给她打了几次电话。故选D项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第四段“They laughed, talked and eventually arrived at Yorkdale —— although at the wrong entrance (他们谈笑风生,最后到达了Yorkdale——尽管走错了入口)”和最后一段“Matthew disappeared into the mall, smiling. She smiled, too, proud that her first ride was such a success. (马修微笑着消失在购物中心。她也笑了,为自己的第一次跑网约车如此成功而自豪)”可推断,作者母亲和马修的行程很愉快。故选C项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第三段马修说的“Everyone is a beginner at some point. (每个人在某个时候都是初学者)”和最后一段他对作者母亲的评价“I’m rating you five right now! (我现在就给你打五分!)”可知,马修能理解并原谅一个初学者的错误,很善解人意。所以最能描述马修的词语是“Understanding(善解人意的)”。故选B项。
C
【答案】28. B 29. A 30. D 31. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍最新研究发现,蜜蜂在寻找食物时,不单是靠颜色,而且严重依赖花朵的图案来寻找花朵。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“A team led by the University of Exeter tested bee behaviour and built bee’s-eye-view simulations (模拟装置) to work out how they see flowers.(埃克塞特大学领导的一个研究小组测试了蜜蜂的行为,并建立了蜜蜂的视角模拟,以研究它们是如何看花的)”可知,新的研究专注蜜蜂看花、找花的方式。故选B项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中Hempel的话“Our findings suggest that flowers don’t need to evolve too many different flower colours, because they can use patterns to vary their displays so bees can tell them apart from other flowers.(我们的研究结果表明,花朵不需要进化出太多不同的花朵颜色,因为它们可以利用图案来改变它们的展示效果,这样蜜蜂就可以把它们与其他花朵区分开来)”可知,亨佩尔认为花朵并不是必须进化出更多颜色。故选A项。
【30题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第五段“Our findings suggest that flowers don’t need to evolve too many different flower colours, because they can use patterns to vary their displays so bees can tell them apart from other flowers.(我们的研究结果表明,花朵不需要进化出太多不同的花朵颜色,因为它们可以利用图案来改变它们的展示效果,这样蜜蜂就可以把它们与其他花朵区分开来)”可知,研究发现蜜蜂通过图案来找到花朵。第六段“One typical feature identified in the study is that the outside edges of flowers usually contrast strongly with the plant’s leaves while the centre of the flower does not have such a strong contrast with the leaf colour. This could help bees quickly identify colour differences and find their way to flowers.(研究中发现的一个典型特征是,花的外边缘通常与植物的叶子形成强烈的对比,而花的中心与叶子的颜色没有这样强烈的对比。这可以帮助蜜蜂快速识别颜色差异,并找到通往花朵的路)”主要说明了花是如何通过颜色对比来形成图案,以便于蜜蜂识别并找到它们的,所以第六段是支持研究结论的证据。故选D项。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中Hempel的话“We studied a large amount of data on plants and bee behaviour (我们研究了大量关于植物和蜜蜂行为的数据)”可知,对于蜜蜂的研究,Hempel强调了研究的数据。故选A项。

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】32. A 33. C 34. G 35. D 36. F
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了将健身列为首要事情的方法,包括早上锻炼、设定合理目标和保持锻炼的连贯性等。
【32题详解】
根据下文“Instead of pushing your workout to the evening and then potentially deciding to skip it, start your day with exercise. This will create a solid foundation for you to work for the rest of the day.(与其把锻炼推到晚上然后可能找借口跳过,不如以运动开启新的一天。这能为接下来的一整天奠定坚实基础)”可知,本段建议以锻炼开启每一天,所以A选项“Work out in the morning(早上锻炼)”与下文内容相呼应,适合作小标题。故选A项。
【33题详解】
上文“Everyone wants to believe that they will feel motivated for a vigorous workout in the evening after work.(每个人都想相信自己下班后晚上会有动力进行高强度锻炼)”表达了人们认为下班后晚上有锻炼动力的想法,C选项“However, by that time, you’re least enthusiastic about workout.(然而,到那个时候,你对锻炼最没有热情)”与上文形成转折,说明实际情况是晚上可能没热情锻炼,进而引出下文的建议“Instead of pushing your workout to the evening and then potentially deciding to skip it, start your day with exercise.(与其把锻炼推到晚上然后可能找借口跳过,不如以运动开启新的一天)”,上下文逻辑连贯。故选C项。
34题详解】
上文“Create real goals for yourself: write them down and let them be the driving factor that gets you up in the morning.(为自己设定真正的目标:把它们写下来,让它们成为你早上起床的动力)”强调设定目标,G选项“Once you reach one significant point, you can begin stepping up your game for the next one.(一旦你达到一个重要目标,你就可以开始为下一个目标努力)”进一步阐述了达到一个目标后应继续为下一个目标努力,与上文关于目标的话题紧密相连。故选G项。
【35题详解】
下文“Get ahead of this issue by creating a set time when you will work out.(通过设定一个锻炼的固定时间来提前解决这个问题)”提到要解决某个问题需设定固定锻炼时间,D选项“One of the biggest problems to fitness training is inconsistency.(健身训练最大的问题之一就是缺乏连贯性)”指出缺乏连贯性是健身训练的大问题,下文设定固定锻炼时间的方法正是针对这一问题,逻辑连贯。故选D项。
【36题详解】
下文“So whether you’re new to your workout routine or have been going to the gym for years, these quick, simple tips can help you reframe your approach so that fitness truly is your top focus.(所以,无论你是刚开始健身,还是已经去健身房多年,这些快速、简单的小建议都能帮助你重新调整方法,让健身真正成为你的首要关注点)”说明这些小建议能让健身成为首要关注点,F选项“These days, it’s easier than ever to make fitness your number one priority.(如今,将健身列为首要事情比以往任何时候都更容易)”引出下文小建议的作用,即让健身成为首要事情变得容易。故选F项。

续写要求:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him.

A spark of surprise flashed across his face.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him. At last he came, walking with his hands in his pockets. That image immediately brought back memories of the boy throwing a tantrum in class the other day. Yet I managed to restrain my anger this time. These past few days, I had been building a wall between us with blame and punishment, so I thought to myself that maybe I should try another way. “I want to apologize for the quarrel that we had in the middle of class, and I’m really sorry if it hurt your feelings,” I said, finally breaking the ice.
A spark of surprise flashed across his face. The naughty boy froze there, staring at me with wide eyes. It was clear that he had never heard an apology from a teacher before. “It is I who should say sorry,” he murmured, his face burning with shame, “I should have learned to control myself.” With a smile, I stepped forward and patted him on his shoulder, signaling to him to go back to his seat. In the days that followed, Tyler didn’t misbehave in class anymore and took an active part in class discussions. I had never expected “understanding” could make such a huge difference — it turned one of my worst teaching experiences into perhaps the best one.
