B The message took me by surprise. It came from my Ph. D. adviser, asking me whether I’d apply for a fellowship from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Two years earlier, I’d written a proposal for the very sane award — a requirement for passing my Ph. D. qualifying exam. Before it, I’d never written a full research proposal. My adviser wanted me to conceptualize a brand-new project. The process was like figuring out how the pieces of a complex puzzle (拼图) should fit together. Finally, I focused on creating a secure proposal, with experiments that were almost guaranteed to be scientifically practical. The result was indeed like that, but far from innovative. Eventually, I failed. On my second try, I squeaked (勉强通过) by. I was relieved, but the reviewers’ comments hurt me: my ideas weren’t novel and interesting, I awkwardly thanked people when they congratulated me, feeling insecure and defeated. In the following years, I focused on the lab experiments, and mastered new techniques. I gained the practice of submitting applications for several small grants (助学金). Bit by bit, I began seeing myself in a new light and trusting my decisions. So, when my adviser convinced me to apply for the NIH fellowship this time, I was determined not to play it safe and to create a more daring project. Despite old criticisms, I landed on a plan that built on the work I’d done but used fresh ideas. Regardless of whether my idea proved to be correct, I thought it was worth the effort. I’d seen my project indicate new research directions and push back the frontiers of my subject. Five months later, I prepared myself for heartbreak once again as I logged in, But amazingly, I secured the fellowship with great reviews. I can’t claim to have mastered the art of writing an NIH proposal. But the award underscored that avoiding negative reviewer comments shouldn’t be the only aim Exciting projects, with daring ideas, are the ones that will move our science forward and awaken the curiosity of scientists. 4. What was the initial proposal for Ph. D. qualification like? A. Clear and brand-new. B. General but well-received. C. Complex and creative. D. Workable but conventional. 5. How did the lab experiments affect the author? A. They helped him to get his Ph. D. B. They changed his research method. C. They increased his self-confidence. D. They won him reviewers’ recognition. 6. Why did the author feel the project worthwhile? A. It made a breakthrough in the field. B. It represented his progress in years. C. It satisfied the requirements of NIH. D. It met the expectations of his adviser. 7. What does the author’s experience tell us? A. Stability wins the race. B. No risk, no reward. C. Practice makes perfect. D. Go big or go home. C In today’s world, the battle for truth is very heated, even if we don’t always see it clearly. Disinformation, or false information, spreads at an alarming rate on social media platforms. Social media algorithms (算法) prioritize and display the most engaging information, which often includes sensational, shocking, and emotionally charged stories. By doing so, they increase misinformation, as such stories tend to achieve higher engagement rates. Seeing others engaging with misleading content through likes, shares, or comments — even in an unreasonable manner — often causes people to swallow it. They forward information from other people, especially friends or celebrities, creating a viral cycle that pushes false information further into the public view. Disinformation creators describe affairs that are tricky and difficult to understand in black and white. Situations or behaviors may be presented out of context, lacking the full picture. Such simplistic representations often bring about a strong reaction, forcing people to take sides. Moreover, disinformation may be presented with a choice between right and wrong. Since most people don’t want to be on the wrong side of justice, they’ll go along with the side that their own group declares as right and just. Critical thinking is a skill that helps us recognize disinformation. It helps us question where information comes from and if it’s real, and make sure what we believe is really true. Instead of just believing everything we see, critical thinking encourages us to question information’s origin. For example, if we read a story that seems suspicious or too good to be true, it’s a good idea to look for more information from reliable places and materials before we fully believe it. It’s also important to be aware of cognitive bias (认知偏见) which misleads us into believing certain information. For example, confirmation bias makes us believe information that supports what we already think, while availability bias causes us to believe information that is more recent or easier to remember. 8. What contributes to the rapid spread of disinformation? A. A decline in self-protection awareness. B. Presence of attention-grabbing content. C. A shortage of risk-management measures. D. Interest in celebrity-related information. 9. What does the underlined word “swallow” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Oppose. B. Examine. C. Ignore. D. Trust. 10. What is a common behavior of disinformation creators? A. Providing powerful arguments. B. Simplifying complicated issues. C. Creating an appealing context. D. Avoiding choosing the wrong side. 11. How can people get rid of disinformation according to the text? A. By checking sources and facts. B. By staying away from suspicious news. C. By trusting things in real life only. D. By reducing prejudice against others. D Environmental groups have claimed success after bringing local wildlife back to Hackney Marshes in East London following the destruction of habitats in recent years. Weasels (鼬), wood mice and other small mammals (哺乳动物) had been disappearing from around the River Lea until hundreds of volunteers began rebuilding their ecosystems. All he volunteers had been on edge realizing the increasingly urgent problem. Now, all paid off. Ian Phillips, an ecologist as well as one of the volunteers, said, “It finally happened. It was absolutely a comfort and pleasure to see everything fall into place.” With funding from Hackney Council, the mission was undertaken. Mr. Phillips explained wood mice’s disappearing caused a chain reaction. Weasels left the habitat, and that in turn impacted the population of a type of local bind, “It’s like a classic sort of building block game — if you pull any piece out of the local ecosystem, everything can collapse,” he said. “So three years ago, when we realized we were at a critical point, we took it upon ourselves to do something.” The departure of wildlife resulted mainly from larger numbers of visitors and houseboaters taking logs from the area to use for firewood. While these gatherings made the headlines, the loud noise and log burning caused great disturbance to local species, driving kingfishers and small birds to abandon their nests. A rise in dog ownership also posed a threat to Hackney Marshes’ mammals. “When you’ve got 3,000 dogs coming through here a day sometimes, there’s going to be death,” Mr. Philips added. This project shows what can be done with local knowledge and devotion in partnership with the council. The rewilders said they’re working to expand their efforts across the region into Millfields Park and London Fields. They are also actively training council staff to help them recover species in the wider area. Meanwhile, Hackney Council has given them the green light to introduce other species like slow worms into Hackney Marshes. 12. How did Phillips’ feeling change? A. From doubtful to proud. B. From alarmed to astonished. C. From helpless to hopeful. D. From pressured to relieved. 13. What do Phillips’ words imply in paragraph 3? A. Wood mice will disappear completely. B. The ecosystem has been unstable. C. Every species in the ecosystem is vital. D. Their success relies on a joint effort. 14. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 4? A. Causes of the disappearance of wildlife. B. Biological diversity in Hackney Marshes. C. Death threat from dogs to local mammals. D. Conflicts between tourism and conservation. 15. What are the rewilders attempting to do? A. Gain support of the local council. B. Educate the public on wildlife protection. C. Restore biodiversity in more areas. D. Monitor the foreign species in the region. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Gardening is more than just a hobby or a simple pastime.____16____As you step outside to tend to your lively plants, a sense of peace and calmness will take up your mind. As the final bell of the school year rang, she felt both excited and worried. “Hey, Mia! Ready for summer?” her best friend, Chloe, approached with a wide smile. “Um, sorta,” Mia replied, looking down at her feet. “I just don’t know what I should do after graduation.” Chloe said, “You’re one of the smartest people I know! What’s holding you back?” Mia took a deep breath. “It’s just…everything feels so uncertain. I want to be a professional singer, but I also feel like writing is my thing.” As summer unfolded, Mia was often found at the village library. One evening, she was drawn to a self-help book titled Fearless: How to Embrace (拥抱) Uncertainty. The sentences struck her. “Sometimes, you have to face uncertainty directly instead of running away from it. Your future isn’t a single path; it’s an ever-changing journey.” The next day, Chloe told Mia a summer music festival would be held in town. “You should enter! You can sing!” she suggested enthusiastically. “No way!” Mia protested, her cheeks reddening. “Give it a shot! Remember how everyone loves your voice?” Chloe urged. Then the book’s words crossed her mind — it’s not just about the thing itself; it’s about showing up and being seen. Hesitantly, she agreed, thinking maybe this could be a chance to overcome her fears. The day of the festival arrived. After Mia’s performance, Mr. Henderson, a local music producer, approached her and said, “You have a beautiful voice, Mia. Have you ever thought about pursuing music professionally?” Shocked, she smiled slightly and explained, “I don’t know whether that’s what I really want. I’m scared, honestly.” “Fear is a part of the process,” he replied warmly, “Sometimes the path chooses you. Why not come to my studio next week, where many artists work together? No pressure — just explore.” 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式作答。 Spending all night thinking about it, Mia decided to go. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “What if you pursued both?” Chloe suggested. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2025年普通高等学校招生全国统一考试 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt?
