Book 1 Unit 3 The art of painting Extended reading Qingming Scroll 一、教学目标 By the end of this section, students will be able to: 1. locate and describe some specific information related to the Qingming Scroll; 2. summarize the essay based on the painting, including its structure, artistic techniques, values and the message it conveys; 3. learn some useful words and expressions related to introducing a painting, and introduce the Qingming Scroll in your own words; 二、教学重难点 1. To gain a deep understanding of the painting and appreciate the masterpiece; 2. Locate and describe some specific information related to the Qingming Scroll; 3. To be able to write an introduction to a painting. 三、教学过程 步 骤 教学活动 设计意图 互动时间/模式 Lead in Step 1 1. The teacher shows a duplicate of Qingming Scroll and ask students. T: Guys, I brought you something here, Do you know which painting is it? S:Qingming Scroll T:Excellent! Do you know where this Qingming scroll is housed in now? 2. The teacher displays a picture of the Palace Museum and presents a volunteer requirement notice from the Palace museum to ask if the students would like to have a try.. T: T:Where is this place? It S:the Palce Museum. T: So the painting is housed in the Palace museum in Beijing. Have you ever been a volunteer in a museum? Now there is a great opportunity for you to have a try. Would you like to be a docent? S: Yes. T: Ok, let’s have a try. We can take the Qingming Scroll as our target, it’s a masterwork of Chinese art, right? T: Have you ever seen this painting before? S: Nope. T: Never mind. Let’s take a close look at it. 采用问答互动和情境任务驱动，先激活学生已有知识（《清明上河图》)，再通过故宫图片建立文化场所关联，最后以志愿者招募任务创设真实语境，激发参与动机，实现从文化认知到语言实践的过渡。 5’ Class Work Appreciation Step 2 1. The teacher has students watch the video first and have one or two students to describe their observation. T: What do you see in the painting? Anything. S: People walking along the riverbank, and there are many boats... T ;So you can see a lot of people there, then look at these different people. What are they doing, S: people chat with each other in the tea house... 2. The teacher has students share their knowledge about the basic information related to this painting. (1) Anything else you know about the painting, the background information. Such as , who is the painter? (2) Besides these, what other aspects will we often use when we introduce a painting? Any other aspects? 通过观察描述和背景知识问答，引导学生从直观感知过渡到系统性分析，培养其观察力、文化意识和结构化表达能力。 13’ Individual Work Class Work Approaching Step 3 1. The teacher has students find out other aspects mentioned in the essay, fill in the blanks and check the answer. 通过填空检测和思维导图任务，培养学生信息提取与逻辑梳理能力，借助范例支架实现知识迁移，提升自主探究与结构化输出能力。 17’ Individual Work Pair Work Class Work Step 4 1. The teacher has students read for detailed information and draw a mind map to organize the information within four minutes. 2. The teacher offer an example of part one for students to refer to, and has students work out part two (the most difficult part) as required. 3. The teacher has three volunteers show their mind map in front of the whole class and introduce each aspect one by one. At the meantime, the teacher write down the useful words and expressions each student use to ask for their attention to the verbs and phrases the author use to introduce different aspects. 4. The teacher analyze each section: · For the first aspect--sections, students should figure out which verbs are used by the author to introduce each section, and fill in the blanks as follows: · For the second aspect--artistic technique, students should be able to find out the two techniques: perspective and burshwork., which can lead to the last aspect: to convey different message. · For the last aspect in part 2--message, students should identify and summarize two scenes which covey contrast messages the painter intended to show through this masterwork. 通过限时思维导图任务培养信息处理能力，以范例支架和分层任务（由易到难）引导自主探究，并通过展示互评强化语言输出，同时聚焦文本关键表达，实现内容与语言的双重习得。 Step 6 1. The teacher has students to listen to a video about the sample, which is offered to show a possible version students can learn about how to introduce the Qingming Scroll to visitors, and then fill in the blanks. 2. The teacher write down useful expression on the blackboard to enlighten them during the output stage. T: Now let’s make a summary, when introducing a painting, a qualified volunteer is able to use what? The teacher has students answer this question: T: As for the Qingming scroll, is it necessary to introduce the hidden message to the visitors, yes or no? S: Yes. T: To help them better understand the value. 2. The teacher has students read the highlight line and ask students to ask the following question. T: Which means the Qingming Scroll not only has...what value? S: Artistic, historical and cultural value. The teacher has students work in groups of four and present their work about introducing the Qingming Scroll to the foreign visitors in two minutes. They have five minutes to prepare. T: After approaching the Qingming Scroll , you must have a better understanding of it. Now it is the time to apply what you have learned--to introduce it. Please work in group of 4 , and introduce the Qingming Scroll to the foreign visitors in 2 minutes. Pay attention to the task assignment and tips that may help you stand out. 5 minutes for you , go ahead. 2. Two students present their work on stage. 3. The teacher give a short comment to each group and offer suggestions T: Both of you have done a great job, but there’s one thing missing, that is, maybe as a volunteer, you should pay attention to your expressions and body language, maybe a smile or some gestures. It would be better if you apply these to your introduction. T: Take out your hands and applaud for yourself.
