Have you ever tried them? There are probably a lot of reasons, but here are the main reasons. First, young people pick them up not only to keep fit, but also to make more friends. Groups of players have online group chats, talking about the sports they are interested in or simply sharing their lives. “I thought it was just a toy for children and pets. But later I found that the sport not only satisfied my need for exercise, but also allowed me to catch up with my friends,” said Qu Xinchen who started playing Ultimate in April of last year. “I like sports very much, and I think Ultimate Frisbee is very suitable for me. I used to be shy and didn’t have many friends, but now I have a lot of friends. It really makes me happy,” said Ge Ziwei, a post-1990 Ultimate fan. Second, the new sports are good for taking photos. “The photos are very nice and can be posted on our social media accounts as a reminder of the good times,” said Qu. Third, the new sports are less limited (限制) by places. People can enjoy them at many places in the city, from parks to yards. And one more thing, traditional sports, such as soccer and basketball, usually have strict rules. But the new sports, especially Ultimate Frisbee, are easy to begin. If you want to pick up a new sport, try the above sports. Let’s get fit. 4. How does the writer introduce the new sports to us in Paragraph 1? A. By giving facts. B. By telling stories. C. By listing numbers. 5. Which sport do Qu Xinchen and Ge Ziwei both play? A. Surfing on the land. B. Going rock climbing. C. Playing Ultimate Frisbee. 6. Why do the sports players post their photos on social media accounts? A. To show off their sports skills. B. To remind good times of doing sports. C. To teach people how to play new sports. 7. A lot. “Deep-diving (深潜的) seals provide us with much information on the sea,” says Clive McMahon. He works for a sea science group in Sydney, and he also works with the Australian Center for Excellence in Antarctic Science. “Geography and terrible weather make it difficult for humans to study in Antarctica. In the past, people only studied a small part of the sea around, so the information about this area was sparse,” Clive McMahon says. To know more about the sea, McMahon’s team started an animal tagging (标签) research project in the east sea around Antarctica. They stuck special tags on seals and studied them for 9 years. The tags could collect information about the sea as the seals dived. “The information from seals is so valuable. It shows that something was wrong. For example, in some areas, the seals swam 1,000 meters deeper down than what we thought was the sea floor,” McMahon shares. The information also showed new underwater characteristics. It helps us better understand the shape of the sea floor, including ice shelf cavities (冰架洞). Warm water can go through the cavities and reach the ice shelves. Then it melts (融化) the ice. “So if we find out where the warm water enters the underside of the shelves, we’ll better know about how fast the ice shelves melt, how much fresh water goes into the sea, and many other things that may change our future sea and weather,” he adds. 8. What does McMahon mainly study? A. Weather and plants. B. Wild animals on land. C. Sea and Antarctic science. 9. What does the underlined word “sparse” mean in Paragraph 3? A. 秘密的 B. 稀少的 C. 复杂的 10. What did the information from seals show? A. A true and new sea world. B. The future sea and weather. C. Changes in the sea geography. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Sea and Ice Around Antarctica B. Deep Sea Secrets Brought by Seals C. Science Group Finds New Ice Shelves 【答案】8. C 9. B 10. A 11. Then it melts (融化) the ice.”以及“So if we find out where the warm water enters the underside of the shelves…and many other things that may change our future sea and weather,”可知,海豹可以告诉我们一个崭新的海洋世界。故选A。 【11题详解】 最佳标题题。通读全文,尤其根据“What can a seal (海豹) teach us about the deep ocean? A lot.”以及“The information from seals is so valuable. It shows that something was wrong…deeper down than what we thought was the sea floor,”本文是一篇说明文,文章介绍了通过海豹,人们可以得知更多关于深海的信息,因此选B“海豹带来的深海秘密”适合作为文章标题。故选B。 第二节(共4小题;每小题2分,满分8分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。 Leon’s traveling stories in China I’m Leon McCarron from Northern Ireland. 7. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To teach how to take sports photos. B. To introduce new sports and the reasons. C. To encourage traditional sports like soccer. C What can a seal (海豹) teach us about the deep ocean? A.
