阅读理解 A (2025·莆田二模)To study the behavior of wild animals, scientists routinely tag them with GPS location trackers. But such devices' battery capacity limits how long they operate, often bringing an early end to significant conservation work.Solarpowered trackers are also a poor choice for they break easily and don't work for night creatures. So biologist Rasmus W.H.of the University of Copenhagen and his colleagues turned to another abundant power source. After some trial and error, they finally came up with a tiny generator powered by a pendulum (摆锤) inside a closed device. As the tagged animal moves, the swinging pendulum forces a ring to slide across a copper coil, generating current which is then used to power the sensors for GPS unit. The tracker, which could theoretically survive for the entire life span of an active animal, was recently tested on domestic dogs, a wild pony and a European bison. The dogs and bison in the study were active enough to create the energy for one GPS transmission cycle per day for 14 days and 17 days, respectively. One of the wild pony'strackers lasted at least 146 days but didn't produce enough power for daily transmissions, the researchers reported in Plos One. The limited power generated by the animals' movements means the new tracker isn't ready for prime time just yet, says ecologist Emily Studd of British Columbia's Thompson Rivers University, who wasn't involved in the study. When researchers want to keep close track of animals, they often need GPS fixes more than once a day.But Studd says that with a bit more development, this could be a game changer for wildlife animal research and monitoring. Rasmus and his colleagues hope conservation workers can one day use this technology to track species such as tigers, leopards and wolves, which can easily destroy solarpowered trackers and which hunt and travel at night. 1.What is one advantage of the new tracker over a solarpowered one? A.It is safer. B.It is tougher. C.It is greener. D.It is cheaper. 2.What is the power source of the new tracker? A.The sun. B.The battery. C.The animal. D.The pendulum. 3.What does the test show about the newtracker? A.It still needs some improvement. B.It performs like clockwork. C.It works better on large animals. D.It is a nice household appliance. 4.How does Emily Studd feel about the future of the new tracker? A.Doubtful. B.Hopeful. C.Concerned. D.Definite. 根据第一段中“Solarpowered trackers are also a poor choice for they break easily and don't work for night creatures(太阳能跟踪器也是一个糟糕的选择,因为它们很容易损坏,对夜间生物不起作用)”可知,太阳能追踪器很容易损坏,所以新型追踪器应是会避免这一缺点,比它更坚固,故选B。 根据第二段中“As the tagged animal moves, the swinging pendulum forces a ring to slide across a copper coil, generating current which is then used to power the sensors for GPS unit.(当被标记的动物移动时,摆动的钟摆迫使一个环在铜线圈上滑动,产生电流,然后用于为GPS装置的传感器供电)”可知,新型追踪器的电源是由动物移动产生的,故选C。 根据第二段最后一句“One of the wild pony'strackers lasted at least 146 days but didn't produce enough power for daily transmissions, the researchers reported in Plos One.(研究人员在Plos One上报告说,其中一种野生小马追踪器至少持续了146天,但无法产生足够的能量来进行日常传输)”可知,测试结果表明该设备仍然需要一些改进,故选A。 根据第三段最后一句“But Studd says that with a bit more development, this could be a game changer for wildlife animal research and monitoring.(但是Studd说,随着更多的发展,这可能会改变野生动物研究和监测的游戏规则)”可知,Emily Studd对新型设备的未来充满希望,故选B。 B★ (2025·滁州二模)Researchers have found a group of lost cities in the Amazon rainforest. The cities were home to at least 10,000 farmers around 2,000 years ago. Stéphen Rostain, one of the researchers, first noticed the earthen mounds (土墩) and buried roads in Ecuador more than twenty years ago.But at the time, he wasn't sure how it all fitted together.Recent mapping using laser (激光) technology revealed those locations to be part of a group of settlements in the forested areas near the Andes mountains and connecting roads. This LIDAR image provided by researchers in January 2024 shows complexes of rectangular (矩形) platforms arranged around low squares along wide dug streets at the Kunguints site, Upano Valley in Ecuador.“It was a lost valley of cities, and it's incredible” said Rostain. The Upano people lived in the settlements between around 500 B.C.and 300 to 600 A.D.That was around the same time period as the Roman Empire in Europe.Ancient people built on over 6,000 earthen mounds in an area surrounded by agricultural fields with drainage (排水) canals. The largest roads were 10 meters wide and went for 10 to 20 kilometers. While it is difficult to estimate populations, the area was home to at least 10,000 people, and possibly about 15,000 or 30,000 at its highest point. That is comparable to the estimated population of Romanera London, then Britain's largest city. The Amazon is often thought of as a wild area with only small groups of people. But recent discoveries have shown us how much more complex the past really is. Scientists have recently also found evidence of complex rainforest societies that came before European contact elsewhere in the Amazon, including in Bolivia and Brazil.“There's always been an incredible diversity of people and settlements in the Amazon, not only one way to live,” said Rostain.“We're just learning more about them.” 5.What does Rostain think about the finding? A.Unreasonable. B.Understandable. C.Unforgettable. D.Unbelievable. 6.What's paragraph 4 mainly about? A.The lost cities' long history and complex civilization. B.The lost cities' relationship with the Roman Empire. C.The Upano people's similarities in lifestyle with London. D.The Upano people's advanced agriculture and transport. 7.What can be inferred from Rostain's words in the last paragraph? A.People have learned enough about the complex societies. B.Much remains to be discovered about the lost societies. C.The rainforest societies are as complex as ever thought. D.European contact with the lost cities dates from long ago. 8.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text? A.The Loss of Complex Rainforest Societies B.The History of Complex Old Settlements C.Researchers Discover Lost Cities in Amazon D.Scientists Find Incredible Diversity of People 【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。 根据第三段中“‘It was a lost valley of cities, and it's incredible’ said Rostain.( Rostain说:‘这是一个失落的城市山谷,令人难以置信。’)” 根据第四段中“The Upano people lived in the settlements between around 500 B.C.and 300 to 600 A.D.That was around the same time period as the Roman Empire in Europe.Ancient people built on over 6,000 earthen mounds in an area surrounded by agricultural fields with drainage(排水) canals. The largest roads were 10 meters wide and went for 10 to 20 kilometers.(乌潘诺人居住在公元前500年至公元300到600年的定居点上。这个时期大致与欧洲的罗马帝国同时。古代人在一个被农田和排水渠围绕的区域上建造了6000多个土墩。最大的道路宽10米,长10 ~ 20公里。)”以及本段中最后一句“But recent discoveries have shown us how much more complex the past really is.(但最近的发现向我们展示了过去是多么复杂。)” 故选A。 根据最后一段中“‘There's always been an incredible diversity of people and settlements in the Amazon, not only one way to live,’ said Rostain.‘We're just learning more about them.’(Rostain说:‘亚马逊地区的人口和定居点一直存在着令人难以置信的多样性,而不仅仅是一种生活方式。我们只是在进一步了解他们。’)”可知,我们对失落社会的了解仍然不够完整,还有很多待发现的内容。因此,可以推断出Rostain认为关于失落社会还有很多待发现的内容。故选B。 8.C 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Researchers have found a group of lost cities in the Amazon rainforest. The cities were home to at least 10,000 farmers around 2,000 years ago.(研究人员在亚马逊雨林中发现了一组失落的城市。大约2000年前,这些城市是至少1万名农民的家园。)”以及通读全文可知,文章介绍的是研究人员在亚马逊雨林中发现的一组失落城市。研究人员还发现,亚马逊雨林地区在欧洲罗马帝国时期存在着复杂的社会结构,与人们对亚马逊地区的传统认知不同。C选项“Researchers Discover Lost Cities in Amazon(研究人员在亚马逊发现失落的城市)”概括文章主要内容,符合标题。故选C。 C (2025·苏锡常镇四市调研)The human voice is a delicate thing. Each person's distinctive voice is produced when air from the lungs causes the vocal cords (声带) to vibrate (震颤).These vocal cords can easily get damaged.According to a 2005 study, 30% of the population will experience a voice disorder at some point in their life. In a study published in the journal Nature Communications this week, a group of bioengineering researchers from the University of California have put forward an attractive solution. They have designed and tested a soft patch (小片) that can be stuck onto a person's neck, where it will pick up muscle movements and, with the help of machinelearning algorithms (算法) that process the signals, translate them into speech. When a person loses their voice today, the easiest fix is to turn to typing, texting, or writing notes to communicate.Typing can be slow and convenient, says Jun Chen, the paper's lead author, and writing notes is only possible in good lighting. The new solution would therefore be able to clear all these hurdles. Dr.Chen's device works based on something called the magnetoelastic effect.Essentially, when tiny magnetic (磁性的) bits are placed into soft materials, their magnetic properties can change as the material is stretched. When the throat muscles move under the soft patch, the resulting magnetoelastic effects can be changed into electrical signals. In a test with eight participants, the variations can be changed by electrical signals. Researchers recorded the signals as the subjects spoke and mouthed five different sentences. They then trained a machinelearning model which was then able to predict which of the five sentences the participants spokewhether aloud or in silencewith more than 90% accuracy. There is a way to go yet, for now the device can only recognize the five phrases it was trained on.Plus, to make it practical at scale, the researchers will need to collect a lot more data. 9.In paragraph 1, the author mainly wants to tell us that ________. A.lungs are easily damaged B.the human voice is unique C.vocal cords vibrate to produce sound D.voice disorders are a problem worthy of attention 10.Why does the author mention the biometric effect? A.To explain the working principle. B.To present a solution. C.To introduce the challenge. D.To make a comparison. 11.What is the function of the soft patch? A.Predicting five different sentences. B.Destroying the background magnetic field. C.Slowing the movements of throat muscles. D.Helping turn muscle movements into electrical signals. 12.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A.Predicting the Importance of Voice Restoration B.Using Algorithms in Bioengineering Research C.Overcoming Voice Loss with an innovative Patch D.Finding the Principle of Communication Devices 【语篇解读】 本文是说明文。 根据第一段“The human voice is a delicate thing. Each person's distinctive voice is produced when air from the lungs causes the vocal cords (声带) to vibrate (震颤).These vocal cords can easily get damaged.According to a 2005 study, 30% of the population will experience a voice disorder at some point in their life.(人类的声音是一种微妙的东西。每个人独特的声音是由肺部的空气引起声带振动而产生的。这些声带很容易受损。根据2005年的一项研究,30%的人在一生中的某个阶段会经历声音障碍)”可知,本段主要想告诉我们声音障碍是一个值得关注的问题。故选D项。 10.A 推理判断题。根据第二段“They have designed and tested a soft patch (小片) that can be stuck onto a person's neck, where it will pick up muscle movements and, with the help of machinelearning algorithms (算法) that process the signals, translate them into speech.(他们设计并测试了一种柔软的贴片,可以贴在人的脖子上,在那里它会捕捉肌肉运动,并在处理信号的机器学习算法的帮助下,将它们转化为语音)”以及第三段“When a person loses their voice today, the easiest fix is to turn to typing, texting, or writing notes to communicate.Typing can be slow and convenient, says Jun Chen, the paper's lead author, and writing notes is only possible in good lighting. The new solution would therefore be able to clear all these hurdles.(如今,当一个人失声时,最简单的解决办法就是打字、发短信或写笔记来交流。该论文的第一作者Jun Chen说,打字可能既慢又方便,而且只有在良好的光线下才能写笔记。因此,新的解决方案将能够清除所有这些障碍)”和第四段“Dr.Chen's device works based on something called the magnetoelastic effect.(陈博士的装置是基于磁弹性效应工作的)”可知,作者提到magnetoelastic effect是为了解释贴片的工作原理。故选A项。 根据第四段“Essentially, when tiny magnetic (磁性的) bits are placed into soft materials, their magnetic properties can change as the material is stretched.(从本质上讲,当微小的磁性钻头被放入柔软的材料中时,它们的磁性会随着材料的拉伸而改变)”以及第五段“When the throat muscles move under the soft patch, the resulting magnetoelastic effects can be changed into electrical signals.(当喉部肌肉在软贴片下运动时,产生的磁弹性效应可以转化为电信号)”可知,软贴片的功能是帮助将肌肉运动转化为电信号。 根据第二段“In a study published in the journal Nature Communications this week, a group of bioengineering researchers from the University of California have put forward an attractive solution. They have designed and tested a soft patch (小片) that can be stuck onto a person's neck, where it will pick up muscle movements and, with the help of machinelearning algorithms (算法) that process the signals, translate them into speech.(在本周发表在《自然通讯》杂志上的一项研究中,来自加州大学的一组生物工程研究人员提出了一个有吸引力的解决方案。他们设计并测试了一种柔软的贴片,可以贴在人的脖子上,在那里它会捕捉肌肉运动,并在处理信号的机器学习算法的帮助下,将它们转化为语音)”以及纵观全文可知,本文主要讲述了一种可以贴在人脖子上的软贴片,能够通过捕捉肌肉运动并将其转化为语言,所以C项“Overcoming Voice Loss with an innovative Patch(用创新的贴片克服失声)”是本文最好的标题。故选C项。 Ⅱ.七选五 (2025·威海二模)The harsh winters and modern cities can make life tough for a wild animal, especially when they get lost and are outside their natural habitat for too long.Animal shelters are crowded with animals in desperate need of help, especially during the winter season.__1__ One day, a man found a small owl (猫头鹰) that was soaking wet and appeared to be struggling. He brought it into a local shelter.__2__ The little owl was unable to fly, not because of an injury, but because it was too fat. The owl weighed 245 grams, which was 33% more than the upper limit of what an owl that size should weigh. The reason for the weight gain was quite natural. The owl was eating too much. The winter had been unusually warm, and as a result, the area had a higher than normal population of mice.__3__ So it got carried away. The shelter staff put the owl on a systematic plan of diet and exercise, and it started to lose weight quickly. After some time, the owl was back to its normal health and was released back into the wild. The question of whether this obesity issue is a strange result of climate change or just a coincidence (巧合) is difficult to say.__4__ Wild animals are not used to living in modern cities, and they often struggle to survive.Luckily, there are many animal shelters that offer refuge for these animals. These shelters help restore them to their natural condition and put them back into the wild. __5__ Some focus on specific animals, such as owls, while others focus on a particular region. However, they all have the same goal—to provide a safe haven for wild animals. A.Different types of animal shelters have different purposes. B.Animal shelters are not just a place for injured or sick animals. C.This meant that it was like an allyoucaneat buffet for the little owl. D.They are really important when animals struggle to survive in cold weather. E.After a thorough checkup, the shelter staff found out that it was not injured at all. F.However, it is clear that it is vital to care for wild animals and to ensure their safety. G.However, recently, a wild animal was brought to a shelter for a very different reason. 1.G 根据上文“The harsh winters and modern cities can make life tough for a wild animal, especially when they get lost and are outside their natural habitat for too long.Animal shelters are crowded with animals in desperate need of help, especially during the winter season.(严酷的冬天和现代城市会让野生动物的生活变得艰难,尤其是当它们迷失方向,长时间离开自然栖息地时。动物收容所挤满了急需帮助的动物,尤其是在冬季。)”可知,上文描述了野生动物被带到收容所的原因,结合下文讲到一只猫头鹰因为过胖被送去收容所,空处和上文应形成转折关系,指出一个与上文不同的原因。G项:However, recently, a wild animal was brought to a shelter for a very different reason.(然而,最近,一只野生动物因为一个非常不同的原因被带到收容所。) 2.E 根据下文“The little owl was unable to fly, not because of an injury, but because it was too fat.(小猫头鹰不能飞,不是因为受伤,而是因为它太胖了。)” E项中的“it was not injured at all”与下文中“not because of an injury”对应。E项:After a thorough checkup, the shelter staff found out that it was not injured at all.(经过彻底的检查,收容所的工作人员发现它根本没有受伤。) 3.C 根据上文“The owl was eating too much. The winter had been unusually warm, and as a result, the area had a higher than normal population of mice.(猫头鹰吃得太多了。冬天异常温暖,因此该地区的老鼠数量高于正常水平。)”可知,上文提到猫头鹰的食物变多了,空处应承接上文,说明食物变多对于猫头鹰来说意味着什么。C项:This meant that it was like an allyoucaneat buffet for the little owl.(这意味着对小猫头鹰来说,这就像一个吃什么都可以的自助餐。) 4.F 根据上文“The question of whether this obesity issue is a strange result of climate change or just a coincidence is difficult to say.(肥胖问题是气候变化的奇怪结果,还是仅仅是一个巧合,这个问题很难说。)”和下文“Wild animals are not used to living in modern cities, and they often struggle to survive.(野生动物不习惯在现代城市生活,它们常常为生存而挣扎。)” However, it is clear that it is vital to care for wild animals and to ensure their safety.(然而,很明显,照顾野生动物并确保它们的安全是至关重要的。) 5.A 根据下文“Some focus on specific animals, such as owls, while others focus on a particular region. However, they all have the same goal to provide a safe have n for wild animals.(一些专注于特定的动物,如猫头鹰,而另一些则专注于特定的地区。然而,他们都有一个共同的目标——为野生动物提供一个安全的栖息地。)”可知,本段主要介绍了不同收容所的用处。A项:Different types of animal shelters have different purposes.(不同类型的动物收容所有不同的用途。) 故选A。
