It’s super-important to America and our economy,” Blayde says. “We want to help the smaller farmers, and one of the benefits is not having to spend their money on fertilizer and pesticides (杀虫剂).”
The idea is to design and build a drone that will take video imagery of the fields to determine what is needed to produce the best crop, while saving money and sparing the environment by reducing pollutants in the runoff water. But Disney’s story actually started two decades earlier with what Walt Disney called "Daddy’s Day". On Saturdays in the 1930s and 1940s, Disney would take his two daughters to ride the Griffith Park merry-go-round, which they’d enjoy while he sat on a bench dreaming of ways for families to have fun together. Disney disliked the amusement parks they often visited, seeing them as dirty, unimaginative places run by rude employees.
Disneyland opened then. The 5,000 expected guests increased to 28,154, thanks to fake tickets. After the madness of opening day, Disney and his new park were criticized in the press. The media predicted a quick and early end. But the public didn’t listen. Visitors arrived in large groups, and within weeks Disneyland was a success.
Over sixty years later, Disneyland’s popularity continues to grow, with total overall attendance topping 700 million and showing no signs of slowing down.

I was at school, getting ready for a test. Suddenly someone shouted, “Today at 1:10 there will be auditions (试演) for a musical show.”
My friends all jumped up in excitement and asked me, “Will you go, Rasleen?” Without much thought, I agreed. Even though musical shows weren’t really my thing, I wanted to be with my friends.
At 1:10 p.m., there was a line outside the audition room. Standing in the line, I suddenly felt a little nervous. What if I wasn’t any good? I was taking a risk.
Soon it was my turn. I said some lines (台词) from the musical show called Musicville and sang a bit. The teachers smiled at me and asked what kind of role I wanted to play. I felt like I had a chance, so I said, “A big role.”
A week later, the list came out. I got the main role, Melody! I was really happy, but also realized how much work it would be. I was in almost all of the 13 scenes in the show and I had to memorize all my lines before the practice.
Then in the following days, I stayed after school to practice. Two months later, we were all ready for the performance. We got to perform in front of our schoolmates, teachers and parents. When I saw their smiles, I felt very confident.
That confidence stayed with me and made me feel braver. I felt like I could try more things. So I joined a basketball team, and I even joined a dance group. I became more and more active. I realized that by trying something new, I can have fun — even if it means stepping out of my comfort zone (舒适区).

C.Trying new things can lead to growth.
D.Staying in the comfort zone brings chances.

Passage 5
It is a popular viewpoint that time spent online is bad for our health because surfing the Internet or checking our phones sometimes takes us away from activities which are considered healthier, such as playing sports or socializing. As the digital economy develops, such behavior is often linked to reduced well-being.
However, a new global study has found a surprising answer: The Internet might be good for you. The University of Oxford researchers studied data on the psychological (心理的) well-being of over 2 million people across 168 countries between 2006 and 2021. They looked at 8 indicators (标志) of well-being among the individuals, who were aged 15 to 99, including life satisfaction, daily negative and positive experiences and physical health. The researchers applied well-being indicators to test the relationship between Internet use and well-being outcomes. They found that Internet access was related to positive well-being among some people.
Despite the study’s overall optimistic findings, however, the link between Internet access and positive well-being was weaker for young women. While some links between Internet connectivity and well-being were positive, some links were negative — with the most observed among women aged 15 to 24 years old. The researchers state that many studies have shown social media use to be connected with greater depression, especially among young women.
A systematic review of research into the topic found higher levels of social media use were connected with worse mental health outcomes, and higher levels of social media use were connected with an increased risk of internalizing and externalizing difficulties among youths, especially females. The same report also noted that the impacts of social media on mental health are complex (复杂的), as different goals are served by different behaviors, and different outcomes are produced by different patterns of use. All in all, social media use offers both benefits and risks to the health of young people, so particularly, teenage students should treat it properly.
15.The University of Oxford researchers’ study focused on ________.
A.the influence of social media on physical health
B.the relationship between Internet use and mental health
C.the mental health of people in different countries
D.the effects of outdoor activities on physical health
16.What does the underlined word “optimistic” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Hopeless. B.Creative. C.Positive. D.Horrible.
17.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The effects of social media on youths.
B.The benefits of social media for women.
C.The increased risks of human socialization.
D.The difficulties of research on human connection.

I wrote my first short story at the age of ten. Back then, magazines would have a back page full of ads for everything, one of which called for contributions. So, I took a pen and my notebook and wrote a story. I have no memory of what the story was about. I seem to remember it was six or seven pages long in my schoolboy handwriting. When I put it into a standard envelope, it broke the envelope. My mom strengthened it and put an extra stamp on it “just to be safe”. I put it in the mailbox and waited. And waited!
Finally, it came. The response, “We are confident that we can find a suitable publisher (出版商) for your highly attractive story. Please send us $50 by return post and we can get started today.” My excitement disappeared. That moment marked the end of my creative writing. I put my pen and notebook away and didn’t write another word that wasn’t part of schoolwork for 15 years.
After college, I traveled to the United States, Europe and Canada. In my backpack, I always carried a typewriter. I hocked the typewriter several times, but I always got it back. In city parks, late-night diners and five-dollar hotel rooms, I wrote the next “Great American Novel (小说)”. Everyone who read it disagreed and when I reread it, I found they were right. I left the typewriter in a shop and began the process of “growing up”. “I don’t have enough life experience,” I told myself. “I’m too young. I’ll get it back some day!”
I was 46 years old when my wife and I were having a conversation one day about regrets. I told her I always thought that I wanted to be a writer. “Well, if that’s what you’ve always wanted,” she said, “you should probably go to sit down at the computer and start writing!”
I took her advice and never looked back. In my eyes, I’m a successful writer. I’ve had many stories and articles appear in publications I admire, and I’ve earned a few awards over the years. I don’t believe in anything that stops a writer writing — I think it’s an excuse.
4.What can we know about the author’s first short story?
A.It was too long to be published.
B.It was completed with his mom’s help.
C.It failed to meet the publisher's expectations.
D.It meant a key turning point for the author.
5.What does the underlined word “hocked” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Sold. B.Checked. C.Improved. D.Broke.
6.What made the author start writing again?
A.His wish to win awards. B.His wife’s encouragement.
C.His rich life experience. D.His failure in other fields.
7.Why does the author write the text?
A.To introduce different ways of writing stories.
B.To describe his long and winding journey of writing.
C.To teach readers how to deal with failure in writing.
D.To show the difficulty of becoming a successful writer.
It is easy for us to know the difference between our friends and our enemies. But can other animals do the same? Elephants can! They can use their sense of vision and smell to tell the difference between people who pose a threat and those who do not.
In Kenya, researchers find that elephants react differently to clothing worn by men of the Maasai and Kamba ethnic groups. Young Maasai men spear (刺) animals and thus pose a threat to elephants; Kamba men arc mainly farmers and are not a danger to elephants.
In an experiment conducted by animal scientists, elephants were first presented with clean clothing or clothing that had been worn for five days by either a Maasai or a Kamba man. When the elephants noticed the smell of clothing worn by a Maasai man, they moved away from the smell faster and took longer to relax than when they noticed the smells of either clothing worn by Kamba men or clothing that had not been worn at all.
Clothing color also plays a role. In the same study, when the elephants saw red clothing not worn before, they reacted angrily, as red is typically worn by Maasai men. Rather than running away as they did with the smell, the elephants acted aggressively toward the red clothing.
The researchers believe that the elephants’ emotional reactions are due to their different senses of the smells and the sights. Smelling a potential danger means that a threat is nearby and the best thing to do is run away and hide. Seeing a potential threat without its smell means that risk is low. Therefore, instead of showing fear and running away, the elephants express their anger and become aggressive.
8.What character does the author want to express about elephants
A.Clever. B.Friendly. C.Dangerous. D.Naughty.
9.Which of the following is the most dangerous sign for elephants?
A.The color of Kamba men’s clothes. B.The smell of Kamba men’s clothes.
C.The smell of Maasai men’s clothes. D.The red clothes not worn before.
10.What can be inferred about the elephants behavior from this passage?
A.Elephants are more intelligent than other animals.
B.Elephants learn from their experience.
C.Elephants have sharper sense of smell than sight.
D.Elephants tend to attack rather than escape when in danger.
11.In-which magazine will the passage be found most probably?
A.Newsweek. B.Nature. C.Fashion. D.Business Weekly.

New analysis of these scans revealed that activity in the same regions Chen’s group had accurately pointed out in mice, the aDCN, appeared to be significantly disturbed in humans with Prader-Willi syndrome. In healthy individuals, the aDCN were more active in response to food images while fasting than just after a meal, but no such difference was identifiable in participants with the disorder. The result suggested that the aDCN were involved in controlling hunger.
44. According to the project conducted by the researchers, ________.
A. the healthy testees were more likely to overeat after fasting
B. food images increased the appetite of the testees with Prader-Willi syndrome
C. the aDCN in the healthy testees responded to food images more actively after fasting
D. the aDCN in the testees with Prader-Willi syndrome made no response to food images
根据文章第四段“ In healthy individuals, the aDCN were more active in response to food images while fasting than just after a meal, but no such difference was identifiable in participants with the disorder. (在健康个体中,与饭后相比,禁食时aDCN对食物图像的反应更为积极,但在患有这种疾病的参与者中没有发现这种差异。)”可知,健康受试者的aDCN在禁食后对食物图像的反应更积极。故选C。
考点二: 阅读理解词义猜测题
命题点01单词或短语猜测
1. 根据定义推测词义:
有时作者会通过给词汇下定义来帮助读者理解该词的基本含义,如线索词that is, or, namely, in other words, that is to say, to be more exact, to put it another way, which is等。
线索词such as, such...as, for example, for instance, like , including, especially等。
表达对比或转折关系的词需注意but, yet, however, while, unlike, instead, similarly, on the contrary, in contrast to等。
根据线索词as, since, because, for , so, thus, consequently, therefore, hence, due to, result in, result from, as a result, for this reason, accordingly, so...that, such...that等可知上下句存在因果,从而依据某一句的含义,来确定另一句的含义。

A listener whose head is in some “sweet spot” hears high-quality sound. But as one gels farther from the sweet spot, the sound diminishes. That’s because sound waves from different loudspeakers interact to cancel out each other’s sound.
What does the underlined word “diminishes” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Becomes lower. B.Travels faster.
C.Gets sweeter. D.Sounds nicer.
【答案】A
故选A。

Samantha Gotwalt and Blayde Reich, two senior Mechanical Engineering majors at York College in the group, both found the work to be quite fascinating. According to Samantha, the idea came from a York College professor, who has worked with drones, and wanted to get students involved with a project beneficial to the community. “We really want to help farming and agriculture.
Ideally, that data gained will help the farmers better determine what chemicals they need — and what they don’t.

Which is the best title for the passage?

Passage 3

17.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?

B.The benefits of social media for women.
C.The increased risks of human socialization.
D.The difficulties of research on human connection.

根据最后一段中的“All in all, social media use offers both benefits and risks to the health of young people, so particularly, teenage students should treat it properly. (总而言之,社交媒体的使用对年轻人的健康既有益处也有风险,因此尤其是青少年学生应当妥善对待社交媒体)”可知,社交媒体对年轻人的健康既有益处也有风险,结合上文介绍的相关研究发现可知,该段主要讨论社交媒体对年轻人的影响。故选A项。

【答案】4.D 5.A 6.B 7.B

根据第三段划线词后的“but I always got it back. (但我总是把它拿(买)回来。)”可知,作者总是把打字机弄回来,由此可推知,划线词所在句“I hocked the typewriter several times”意为“我把打字转让出去了好几次”,划线词“hocked”意为“转让,出售”,与“Sold”意思相近。故选A项。
根据第四段中““Well, if that’s what you’ve always wanted,” she said, “you should probably go to sit down at the computer and start writing!” (“好吧,如果这是你一直想要的,”她说,“你应该坐在电脑前开始写作!”)”以及第五段中“I took her advice and never looked back. (我采纳了她的建议,再也没有回头。)”可知,是妻子的鼓励让作者重新开始写作。故选B项。

三·说明文

根据第一段“It is easy for us to know the difference between our friends and our enemies. But can other animals do the same? Elephants can!(我们很容易知道朋友和敌人之间的区别。但其他动物也能做到吗?大象可以!)”可知,大象也可以分辨出朋友和敌人,所以它们非常聪明。故选A。
根据第三段“When the elephants noticed the smell of clothing worn by a Maasai man, they moved away from the smell faster and took longer to relax than when they noticed the smells of either clothing worn by Kamba men or clothing that had not been worn at all.(当大象闻到马赛人穿的衣服的气味时,它们会比嗅到马赛人穿的衣服或根本没有穿过的衣服的气味时更快地远离这种气味,花更长的时间来放松)”可知,对于大象来说,最危险的信号是马赛人衣服上的味道。故选C。
根据第二段“Young Maasai men spear (刺) animals and thus pose a threat to elephants; Kamba men arc mainly farmers and are not a danger to elephants.(年轻的马赛人用矛刺动物,从而对大象构成威胁;坎巴人主要是农民,对大象没有威胁。)”
