B It’s been more than 60 years since Jane Goodall started her pioneering work. In 1960, she was chosen to go to what is now Tanzania and study the little-known world of chimpanzees. Since then, Goodall has received many awards and honorary degrees as a world-famous conservationist (自然环境保护主义者). Now, Goodall has received an unusual honor. She is becoming a toy — a Barbie doll. Goodall may not have expected to become a Barbie at 88 years old — but it’s not just any doll, it’s made out of recycled plastic. And Barbie is partnering with the Jane Goodall Foundation and its Roots & Shoots program which inspires young people to protect animals and the environment. “You know, the main message is that every day you live, you make an influence on the planet and you get to choose what sort of influence you make,” Goodall said. “There was a little boy of 7 in Burundi, and I had given a talk to the school and he came up to me and said, ‘If I pick out a piece of trash every day, it will make a difference, won’t it?’ And I said, ‘Yes it will. And suppose you persuade (劝说) 10 of your friends to pick up a piece of rubbish every day.’ He said, ‘Oh, that would really make a difference and then they could all get 10 of their friends, couldn’t they?’ Goodall said, “So, that’s it. The cumulative (积累的) effect of small actions can lead to big change.” She’s been inspiring young people for decades, but now, newer generations will get to know Jane Goodall. “I sincerely hope that it will help to create more interest in the natural world,” she said about the Barbie. “Because hopefully, you know, they’ll learn more about me through the doll. And that will get them interested. It doesn’t really matter if they have a career in conservation, as long as they pay attention to conservation in their daily lives.” 4. What is the intention of Barbie’s making a doll of Jane Goodall? A. To give Jane Goodall a surprise. B. To test the quality of recycled plastic. C. To encourage environmental protection. D. To start a cooperative research program. 5. What idea does Goodall’s conversation with the little boy mainly convey? A. Everyone can make an impact on the planet. B. Children will make the future world a better place. C. Every child should pick up a piece of rubbish every day. D. The accumulation of tiny actions makes a great difference. 6. What is Goodall’s attitude towards the Barbie doll? A. Critical. B. Supportive. C. Disapproving. D. Doubtful. 7. Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A. Jane Goodall’s Good Expectation of Nature Conservation B. Young People’s Strong Interest in Nature Conservation C. Great Popularity of a New Barbie Doll of Jane Goodall D. Inspire Newer Generations to Care About Conservation Through a Doll C Plenty, an agricultural technology company in San Francisco, is reinventing farms and farming. Nater Storye, the company’s chief science officer says the future of the farms will be vertical (垂直的) and indoors, so food can be grown anywhere in the world all year round, and farms will employ robots and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the quality of growth for fruits and vegetables. Plenty does all those things but uses 95% less water and 99% less land. As AI is on the rise, farmers on flat farms have been using new tools to make farming better or easier. In recent years, they have been using drones (无人机) and robots to improve efficiency. However, flat farms still use a lot of water and land, while a Plenty’s vertical farm can produce the same quantity of fruits and vegetables as a 720-acre flat farm, but on only 2 acres. Plenty’s climate-controlled indoor farm has rows of plants growing vertically. There are LED lights shining on them, robots moving them around, and AI managing all the variables of water, temperature, and light. The conditions are so good that the production per acre is 400 times higher than that of an outdoor farm. Another advantage of vertical farming is that the fruits and vegetables are grown at a warehouse nearby instead of 1,000 miles away or more from a city. That means many transportation miles are saved, which can reduce millions of tons of greenhouse gases every year and the price of fruits and vegetables will also go down. Imported (进口的) fruits and vegetables are more expensive, so poor people in society are at an extreme nutritional disadvantage. Vertical farms could cope with this problem. Also, Plenty’s farms grow organic food without using herbicides (除草剂) or pesticides. They recycle all the water used, even catching the water in the air. The best farm in San Francisco is using 100% renewable energy. Moreover, all the packaging is 100% recyclable, made of recycled plastic and specially designed to keep the food fresh longer to reduce food waste. Ideally, the company will branch out, opening farms across the country and beyond. 8. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs? A. Robots and AI used on vertical farms can quicken the growth of plants. B. Fruits and vegetables grown on vertical farms are more tasty. C. Both land and water can be saved on vertical farms. D. Plenty is the first company to grow crops on vertical farms. 9. What does the underlined phrase “cope with” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Register. B. Improve. C. Present. D. Solve. 10. What can we infer about Plenty’s future vertical farms from the text? A. They will have more farms. B. They will only be run by robots and AI. C. They will bring about terrible problems. D. They will completely take the place of flat farms. 11. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To question the possibility of vertical farming B. To show the technologies of vertical farming. C. To discuss the potential problems of vertical farming D. To introduce and explain the benefits of vertical farming. D In American English, when someone says he has to “face the music”, it does not mean he is going to a musical performance or a concert. Imagine a friend asks you to take care of her beautiful sports car. She says, “Please do not drive it. It is an extremely fast car.” But you want to pretend the car is yours. So, you drive it around one night. As bad luck would have it, you lose control of the car and drive it into a stop sign. When you friend returns, you must “face the music”. It can be losing her friendship or paying for repairs to her car or both. In 1851, the writer James Fenimore explained “face the music”. In a theater, the orchestra (管弦乐队) sits in front of the stage. So,the actors on stage face the musicians. Many actors are very nervous, a condition called stage fright. They may want to run away. “Facing the music” means accepting it and not surrendering (屈服) to it. Word experts say “face the music” may come from the army. A soldier could be forced out of the horse cavalry (骑兵团) because of the serious mistake in the war. The army drummers would play a sad beat. The soldier would be seated backward on a horse and face the music of the drums. To “take your medicine” is to accept the bad result from something you have done. And if someone says, “You made your bed. Now lie in it,” he means you create a bad situation and you must deal with it. But it's fun to “lie in the bed and enjoy music”. “Pay the piper” is also similar to “face the music”. 12. In the situation of Para. 2, “you must face the music” means________. A. you can go to a concert B. you can refuse to repair the car C. you can pretend the car is yours D. you have to accept the bad result 13. What does the underlined word “it” in Para. 3 refer to? A. Theater. B. Stage fright. C. The stage. D. The orchestra. 14. According to the text, the soldier________. A. wanted to be a cavalry officer B. would play the drum in the army C. must have done something terrible D. would be punished by the army drummers 15. Which of the following is different from the other three expressions? A. Pay the piper. B. Take your medicine. C. Lie in the bed and enjoy music D. You made your bed. Now lie in it. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 They say once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget. We named her Onyx because of her thick, shiny black coat. She spent her first vacation with us when she was only ten weeks old and had her first bath and swim in the St. Lawrence River. We had no clue that this amazing little ball of fur would end up being our hero. As she grew older, Onyx became interested in our family activities. On hot summer days, Onyx enjoyed floating on the river with us in her own rubber tube (橡皮圈). Amazingly standing on the top of the tube, she smiled while showing off her perfect balance. Resting her front legs and paws over the edge of the rubber tube, she kept her eyes shut as she floated until she’d had enough of the warm sun on her black coat. One day, our eighteen-year-old daughter, Margie, announced she was going to swim across the bay. No one in the family was free to go swimming with her. The unwritten rule, regardless of swimming ability, was to have a companion (同伴) in the water with you. I was not a good swimmer, so I said to Margie, “Take Onyx with you.” Having heard her name, Onyx woke up from a nap and was ready for action. Margie signed the dog to follow her. Onyx ran to the water next to her. They entered the freezing river together and swam side by side across the bay. I watched from the bank as they reached the sandbar (沙洲) on the far shore. They rested a few minutes before diving into the water for the return trip. I felt uneasy for some reason and continued to watch the pair swim side by side. Suddenly I heard Margie calling out, “I have a cram (痉挛) in the leg!” The thrill rushed into my mind. Not being good at swimming, I was totally in anxiety, having no choice but to shout for help and tell her stay calm. At this time, our pretty and clever Onyx had her own decision. She swam closer to the side, invited Margie to catch her back and dragged her towards the bank. With such a good support, enduring (忍受) the pain in the leg, Margie could have a short rest and take suitable measures to deal with her cram (痉挛). Sensing nothing was wrong with Margie, Onyx began to swim happily ahead of Margie. Paragraph: Seeing both of them getting close to the riverbank, I breathed a sigh of relief. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年柘荣一中高一(下)月考7英语试卷 (考试时间 120 分钟 满分150 分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. A. And Barbie is partnering with the Jane Goodall Foundation and its Roots & Shoots program which inspires young people to protect animals and the environment. (但这不是一个普通的芭比娃娃,它是由回收塑料制成的。芭比正与珍·古道尔基金会及其“根与芽”项目合作,该项目旨在激励年轻人保护动物和环境。)”可知,芭比娃娃公司推出以自然环境保护主义者Jane Goodall为原型的芭比娃娃旨在鼓励年轻人保护动物和环境。故选C。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的““There was a little boy of 7 in Burundi, and I had given a talk to the school and he came up to me and said, ‘If I pick out a piece of trash every day, it will make a difference, won’t it?’ And I said, ‘Yes it will. 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了垂直农业的诸多好处以及将来的发展方向及相关内容。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“Plenty does all those things but uses 95% less water and 99% less land.(Plenty做了所有这些事情,但少用了95%的水,少用了99%的土地)”和第二段中“However, flat farms still use a lot of water and land, while a Plenty’s vertical farm can produce the same quantity of fruits and vegetables as a 720-acre flat farm, but on only 2 acres.(然而,平面农场仍然使用大量的水和土地,而Plenty的垂直农场可以生产与720英亩平面农场相同数量的水果和蔬菜,但只有2英亩)”可知,生产相同数量的水果和蔬菜,垂直农场比传统的平面农场使用的土地和水更少。也就是说,垂直农场可以节省土地资源和水资源。故选C项。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。划线词句前文“Imported (进口) fruits and vegetables are more expensive, so poor people in society are at an extreme nutritional disadvantage.(进口水果和蔬菜更贵,所以社会上的穷人在营养方面处于极端劣势)”以及该段其他内容说明,该段主要讲述了垂直农业的另一个优势,从而推知划线词句“Vertical farms could cope with this problem.(垂直农场可以cope with这个问题)”其中划线短语应为“解决”的意思,与D项Solve“解决”同义。故选D项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,根据最后一段中“Ideally, the company will branch out, opening farms across the country and beyond.(理想情况下,该公司将扩大规模,在全国各地及其他地区开设农场)”可知,在未来,Plenty将会有更多的垂直农场。故选A项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段中“Plenty does all those things but uses 95% less water and 99% less land.(Plenty做了所有这些事情,但少用了95%的水,少用了99%的土地)”和第四段中“Another advantage of vertical farming is that the fruits and vegetables are grown at a warehouse nearby instead of 1,000 miles away or more from a city.(垂直农业的另一个优点是,水果和蔬菜是在附近的仓库种植的,而不是离城市1000英里或更远的地方)”和倒数第二段中“Also, Plenty’s farms grow organic food without using herbicides (除草剂) or pesticides.(此外,许多农场种植的有机食品不使用除草剂或杀虫剂)”以及最后一段中“Moreover, all the packaging is 100% recyclable, made of recycled plastic and specially designed to keep the food fresh longer to reduce food waste.(此外,所有的包装都是100%可回收的,由再生塑料制成,特别设计可以使食物保持更长时间的新鲜,以减少食物浪费)”可知,本文主要介绍了垂直农业的多种益处并就其益处进行了解释。故选D项。 D In American English, when someone says he has to “face the music”, it does not mean he is going to a musical performance or a concert. 【答案】12. D 13. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Seeing the pair getting close to the riverbank, I breathed a sigh of relief. I jumped to wave to them, cheering and praising for their timely and efficient self-rescue. After they reached the bank, I wrapped them in the thick blankets and took them to the car for the warmth. After putting them in, I praised Margie for her immediate and effective action and then patted Onyx on her head, feeling honored to have such a hero. Onyx seemed to enjoy so wonderful a moment that she wagged her tail merrily. Since this incident, we had a special feeling to Onyx, not just a puppy, but a closer friend and hero in our life.(100 words) 【解析】 【导语】本文以宠物狗Onyx为线索展开,主要讲述了Onyx从家庭宠物成长为拯救主人女儿Margie的英雄的故事。 词汇激活 行为类 ①赞扬:praise for/speak highly of/applaud for ②裹上毯子:wrap them in the thick blankets/cover them with thick blankets ③摇着尾巴:wag her tail/swing the tail/flick the tail 情绪类 ①高兴地:merrily/happily/joyfully ②有特殊的情感:have a special feeling/have a unique feeling/hold a special emotion 【点睛】【高分句型1】After they reached the bank, I wrapped them in the thick blankets and took them to the car for the warmth.(运用了after引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】Onyx seemed to enjoy so wonderful a moment that she wagged her tail merrily.(运用了so…that引导的结果状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
