Have you ever got into an argument with your friends over the last cake at a party or the last candy in the box? 11 will you do when there’s only one best thing?
Last week, Jasmine, Kaylie, and I went to an Arts and Crafts Fair. We loved 12 but couldn’t afford most things. They stopped at an ice cream cart. Jasmine wanted a coconut ice cream, Kaylie liked strawberry, and I wanted banana. We couldn’t decide which one to buy and 13 to look around first.
We saw pretty hats, toys, and yo-yos (悠悠球), but everything was too 14 . Jasmine was really interested in a yo-yo, but even that yo-yo cost too much. Just as we felt sad, we found a table with cheap bracelets (手链). A kind 15 named Chai let us try them on.
Then we saw a bracelet 16 a shiny pink elephant bead (珠子)! Suddenly, when we learned that there was only one left, we all wanted 17 and argued loudly. “I saw it first!” “No, I did!” Chai said it was the 18 one and cost twice as much as a normal one. 19 sharing ideas, we left angrily.
I walked back to the ice cream cart to cool down. Kaylie and Jasmine 20 showed up! We stood 21 in line, but eating our favorite ice creams made us happy again. We talked and decided to forget the elephant bracelet.
We returned to Chai’s table, hoping to find a favorite normal one. Just then, the seller 22 us a box of pink elephant beads! They weren’t on bracelets yet, so he sold them at a low price. Jasmine told us she had string (线) and beads at home, 23 we could make our own bracelets by ourselves with the beads. We got the best things without too much money!
If you argue over one cupcake, try cutting it to 24 . If that’s not possible, don’t get angry. Sometimes taking a break helps too! 25 minds find creative solutions. For us, the answer was even better than we imagined. Sometimes stepping back turns “only one” into “enough for everyone.”

Microplastics (微塑料) are increasingly entering our bodies through food and drink, leading to possible health risks. Scientists from Guangzhou Medical University and Jinan University have discovered a simple method to remove these tiny fragments (碎片) from water. Their study tested both soft and hard water, adding some microplastics to evaluate the effectiveness of boiling and filtering (过滤).
The researchers found that boiling and filtering can remove up to 90% of nano microplastics (NMPs), but the effectiveness is different based on the type of water. This method is very useful as it can be easily performed using common kitchen items. In hard water, which forms limescale (水垢) when heated, more NMPs were removed. The study showed that the effectiveness increases when water hardness is higher.
Even in soft water, about a quarter of the NMPs were removed. The lime-covered plastic pieces could be filtered out with a simple stainless steel mesh (不锈钢网) after soft water was boiled. The study suggests that drinking boiled water could be a feasible long-term method to reduce the intake (摄取量) of NMPs.
While the exact health risks of plastics are still uncertain, they have been connected to higher risks of certain diseases. The research team hopes that boiling water will become’ a more common practice to reduce the effects of microplastics. The study’s results prove a highly workable method to reduce human NMP exposure (暴露) and lay the base for further research.
36.What did the scientists from Guangzhou Medical University and Jinan University do?
A.They found a way to add microplastics to water.
B.They evaluated the health risks of microplastics.
C.They studied the sources of microplastics in food and drink.
D.They found a method to take microplastics away from water.
37.What affects the effectiveness of removing NMPs when boiling?
A.The type of kitchen item. B.The hardness of water.
C.The temperature of the lab. D.The number of NMPs added.
38.How were the plastic fragments removed in soft water?
A.Soft water was cooled and later filtered with a special mesh.
B.A certain chemical was added to soft water to filter the fragments.
C.Soft water was boiled first and then filtered with a stainless steel mesh.
D.The plastic fragments in soft water were removed by boiling for some time.
39.What does the underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Possible. B.Difficult. C.Expensive. D.Interesting.
40.What do we know from the last paragraph?
A.The health effects of microplastics have been found out clearly.
B.The research results offer a useful way to reduce human exposure to NMPs.
C.People needn’t worry about the negative influence of microplastics on health.
D.Boiling water is a widely used practice to reduce microplastics.

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be an astronaut? They face many challenges in space. Weightlessness is bad for human health. It can cause muscle and bone loss as well as vision (视觉) problems. Cosmic radiation (宇宙辐射) can harm their DNA.So, we need to understand how the human body changes in space. But researchers don’t have a good understanding of what actually happens to DNA in space. Studying telomeres (端粒), the “end-parts” of chromosomes (染色体) that protect the ends of the DNA, may help.
Researchers know that telomeres get shorter as people get older. Stress, smoking and unhealthy environments make telomeres shorter, too. The length of telomeres is connected to the risk of heart disease and cancer. This makes them important to study for human health.
In 2015, NASA did a study on the twin astronauts Scott and Mark Kelly. Scott spent a year on the International Space Station while Mark stayed on Earth. Researchers found Scott’s telomeres increased in length while in space. His telomeres then quickly shortened when he returned to Earth. In fact, they were even shorter than before he went into space. The study gave researchers valuable new information about astronaut health. To find out if the same changes happen during a shorter trip, another study was done on four astronauts who carried on a 3-day mission (任务). Their telomeres were longer during spaceflight. But when they returned to Earth, their telomeres shortened quickly. They slowly returned to near normal length about 2 months later.
Both studies showed that space trips, even short ones, can change telomere length. Scientists think telomere length changes because of cosmic radiation exposure. Radiation, which is everywhere in space, can harm DNA.Spending more time in space also means more exposure. The International Space Station has protection in areas people use often. This helps protect the astronauts from some radiation. But what if humans want to travel to or stay on other planets someday? We need a better method to reduce radiation harm.
Space is a dangerous environment. We don’t know a lot about how it can influence people’s health for a long time, especially their DNA.The more we know, the better we will be able to keep our astronauts healthy. By learning more about changes like telomere length, scientists can find ways to protect future space travellers. As space tourism becomes more common, this knowledge will be key to keeping people safe and healthy in space.
41.Which problem may weightlessness bring to astronauts in space?
A.Cancer. B.Bone loss. C.Heart disease. D.Hearing problems.
42.Why is studying telomeres important according to the passage?
A.Because it creates a healthy environment.
B.Because it helps reduce astronauts’ stress.
C.Because it protects astronauts from radiation.
D.Because it shows how DNA changes in space.
43.What can we learn from the two studies?
A.Scott’s telomeres returned to near normal length finally.
B.The time of spaceflight decides telomere length changes.
C.All the astronauts’ telomeres were longer during spaceflight.
D.The twin astronauts both carried on a 1-year mission in space.
44.How does the writer show the influence of space on human health?
A.By listing numbers. B.By providing examples.
C.By giving instructions. D.By introducing backgrounds.
45.What is the main purpose of this article?
A.To compare life on Earth and in space.
B.To share stories about famous astronauts.
C.To explain how space affects DNA and health.
D.To introduce why space tourism develops rapidly.

Organic (有机的) gardeners use natural ways to keep their gardens healthy. Follow these steps to make your own organic garden.
Getting ready for Your Garden
First, mark out how large your garden will be with ropes or stones. Don’t make it too big. Next, dig up the soil. Take out large stones and weeds. Keep an eye out for earthworms. They dig tunnels in the soil, which allow air and water to reach a plant’s roots. Finally, mix in some compost (混合肥料). You can make your own compost by using leaves, grass and vegetables which are of no use.
Planting Your Garden
Now that the soil is ready, you need to choose what to plant. If you are sowing seeds, use organic ones. If you are planting seedlings, choose organic plants that look strong and healthy. Make sure that the plants are not so close to each other. Therefore, they won’t be too crowded as they grow.
Choose other plants with a special smell to drive pests away. For example, the garlic (大蒜) and cilantro (香菜叶) drive away the beetles, spider mites and white flies. Some plants attract insects that attack pests. Aphids (蚜虫) feed on the leaves of plants. In turn, insects such as ladybirds live on the aphids, keeping the plant pest free.
Taking Care of Your Garden
Weed your garden often. Remember to pull all the weeds out and not just the leaves. The weed will grow back again if some of the root is left behind.
Sometimes harmful insects attack even the best organic gardens. It is necessary to make natural sprays (喷雾) to drive those pests away. Spraying salt and warm water keeps caterpillars and cabbage worms away. Organic gardening is not only fun, but good for the planet as well. Growing vegetables is an enjoyable and useful activity.

Jim was upset. He had no money left and hadn’t eaten anything since the night before. He was hungry and left the school with his violin. Outside, he saw a busy street filled with people. He stopped under a tree, fixed his clothes, and took out his violin from the violin case. He left the case open and began to play.
As Jim played, beautiful music filled the street. People stopped to listen, drawn in by the lovely sounds. After a while, Jim could no longer stand his hunger. He picked up his case to collect money from the big crowd, and many people began to put money in his case. However, one man took money out and threw it at Jim’s feet.

Set a good example. When you ride an electric bicycle or drive a car, you are supposed to wear a helmet (for electric bicycle riders) and follow traffic laws. Your actions speak 64 (loud) than words.
Monitor your child’s commute. Know how your child is getting to and from school. If you suspect they are riding an electric bicycle illegally, address the issue immediately.
Let’s work together 65 (create) a safe environment for our children. By following these simple steps, we can reduce the risk of accidents and make our children arrive at school and home safely every day.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

【答案】例文:
Short Videos: Fun or Harmful?
Short videos are very popular with teenagers today. Take my classmate Li Hua as an example. He used to spend hours watching short videos every day, which made him fall behind in studies and lose interest in outdoor activities. While short videos can offer quick entertainment and even teach skills like DIY crafts or English pronunciation, their addictive nature often leads to time-wasting and reduced concentration.
To use short videos wisely, here are some suggestions. First, set a strict viewing limit, such as 30 minutes daily, to avoid overindulgence. Second, choose high-quality content that adds value, like educational channels or inspiring stories. Lastly, replace video-watching time with healthier activities like reading or sports.
In conclusion, short videos are not inherently harmful if used moderately and purposefully. They can be a source of fun and learning, but we must stay in control to prevent them from dominating our lives.
