Verse 1
paper
= newspaper
Why does the writer use three different tenses in one verse?
Because Dad does the same things every day.
The simple present tense. 一般现在时suggests that dad repeatedly does these things.(翻)
The present continuous tense 现在进行时tells what dad is doing at the moment. It helps paint a vivid picture.(翻)
And the simple future tense.一般将来时。It suggests that “going to bed” is something afterwards.
Sometimes a shift in tense is necessary to show a change in the time frame of the action. It makes the poem less boring.(翻)

Think and share
How does rhyme (or the lack of it) affect how we feel about the subject of the poem?
The lack of rhyme makes it sound natural and heartfelt.
If a poem is good enough and serves the purpose well, it won't matter whether it rhymes or not.
Post-reading
Rhymes make them sound fun, playful and great to read aloud.
Rhymes help evoke(唤起)positive feelings from readers.
My dad at home and at work: Lack of rhyme expresses the thoughts and feelings about his dad in a natural way. It seems more heartfelt and is suitable for the the subject of the poem.
My school: They are great to read aloud and evoke(唤起)positive feelings from readers. They are suitable for the subjects of both poems.
