In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to visit the Met. Visiting the Met: What We’ll Cover Met covers 2.2 million square feet and houses a collection spanning 5,000 years of history. It’s a good idea to be well-prepared to visit this world-class museum on your trip to New York. Opening Hours: Open Thursdays to Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Closed Wednesdays. Keep in mind that the Met is also closed on January 1, the first Monday in May, Thanksgiving Day, and December 25. Tickets: Adults: $30 Seniors: $22 Students: $17 Children under 12: Free How Long to Spend at the Met The museum is massive. It also has a dense collection of paintings and sculptures. You could easily spend the entire day or more inside, but that will really depend on why you’re headed to NYC. I can tell you from experience that 3 hours tends to be the limit for most people. After that you may get a bit tired — unless you have a deep passion for art. Personally, I stick by that same rule. Your mind can only absorb so much beauty at one time! If you’re an avid (狂热的) museum-goer and really want to spend longer than that, then I highly recommend taking a break in a café or sitting in a nice spot every 75 minutes or so. If you go in the afternoon, then a break means a cocktail (鸡尾酒)! 21. On which days is the Metropolitan Museum of Art closed? A. Mondays. B. Wednesdays. C. Fridays. D. Sundays. 22. How much should a 13-year-old student pay to visit the Met? A. $30. B. $22. C. $17. D. Free. 23. What advice is given to museum lovers planning a lengthy visit to the Met? A. Taking a break every 75 minutes. B Visiting the museum in the morning. C. Booking a museum guide in advance. D. Absorbing as much beauty as possible. B For the past three years my mother battled cancer in silence. When she learned of her diagnosis, she chose not to tell anyone in our family. She did not want us to worry, so she carried the burden alone. I only noticed her fatigue and thinning hair, but she always smiled and insisted that everything was fine. Every morning, she would rise before dawn to prepare breakfast for me and my father. I remember the smell of pancakes and freshly brewed coffee filling the kitchen, masking the bitter taste of her reality. She would slip away to her treatments, returning home with a tired smile and dark circles under her eyes. I asked her about the bruises (淤青) on her arms and she simply said they were from clumsy moments. Despite her pain and growing weakness, my mother devoted herself to my happiness. Every year, as my birthday approached, she carefully selected a special gift, wrapped it in bright paper, and placed it in the garage (车库). She even painted a small wooden sign above the tool cabinet and hung the key on a hook. On its tag, she wrote, “Open after I die.” This secret tradition remained between her and the boxes of presents waiting silently in the garage. Last month, my mother passed away. I was preparing to leave for college out of state, hoping to see her proud smile as I walked onto the campus. Instead, I returned home to an empty house filled with stillness and echoes of her laughter. My greatest regret is that she never got to see me begin this new chapter of my life. Grief weighed heavily on my heart as I struggled to accept her absence. A week after the funeral, I remembered the garage key. With trembling hands, I walked into the cluttered space. Behind the old lawnmower and stacked boxes, I found a row of neatly arranged gifts, one for each birthday she had planned. On the wall above them hung a photograph of her and me, smiling at the beach when I was a child. Beneath the photo, in her familiar handwriting, were the words, “Happy Birthday, son. May happiness fill each day!” 24. For approximately how long did the mother bear her illness in secret? A. Roughly two years. B. Less than twelve months. C. Over thirty-six months. D. Under eighteen months. 25. In which part of the house did she hide the birthday presents? A. Under the bedroom floorboards. B. Within the home’s external storage area. C. Tucked behind the basement furnace. D. Concealed in the linen closet. 26. Which of the following best captures the narrator’s deepest remorse? A. She didn’t witness his beginning at university. B. She never documented her final wishes. C. She forgot to tell him the truth before passing. D. She failed to leave a parting letter. 27. Which title most fittingly conveys the story’s theme? A. A Silent Protector B. Gifts Left in Waiting C. Shadows of Sorrow D. The Key to Unspoken Love C In spring 2017, Avila Pinedo and her classmates from Garey High School founded the school’s first invention club. Noticing their low-income community’s high diabetes (糖尿病) rate and insufficient healthcare access, the team planned to invent a toenail-cutting tool for diabetic patients. Surprisingly, after submitting the idea to Lemelson-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Lemelson-MIT), the Garey High group was awarded one of the 15 InvenTeams for 2017-2018. Yet subsequently, the teens questioned their proposed invention due to sharp-tool risks. Concerned about the new direction, they approached the Lemelson-MIT Program for advice, where Leigh Estabrooks, a seasoned academic, encouraged them, “Invention advances; changes and adjustments are common — that’s the process.” Despite the change in plans, Estabrooks praised the community-centered approach. With renewed determination, the team resolved to develop a tool to monitor blood oxygen levels in diabetics feet. This shift was essential and demanded considerable effort. Avila Pinedo recalled the team invested every spare moment in research. Each team member performed specific functions in the process. Avila Pinedo led — the development of the sensor (传感器) that measured blood oxygen levels. Lacking prior technical skills, Avila Pinedo determined to employ online resources to acquire how to build the electrical system and finally built the sensor. “Invention offers a chance to explore the boundaries of your creativity and capabilities and unlock the power of the invention mindset. It doesn’t mean you must know how to build a sensor, but you do need to take responsibility for your own education,” Pinedo said. Ultimately, under the team’s cooperation, their invention, named Heart and Sole, became a reality. The experience lit Avila Pinedo’s passion, inspiring her to serve as an advisor to primary pupils recently. Guiding them through hands-on engineering and programming for a STEM initiative, she said. “Invention is transformational,” witnessing its empowering influence on InvenTeamers and others who realize that applying imagination and concepts can unlock fresh prospects, therefore motivating them to further explore education with the belief that invention is accessible to all. 28. What motivated the club’s invention? A. Expectation from Garey High School. B. Community health issues. C. Regional income inequality. D. Requirements from InvenTeams. 29. Which of the following would Estabrooks agree concerning invention? A. Redesigns are natural. B. Original plans are the key. C. Instructions determine success. D. Academic support counts. 30. What contributed to Avila Pinedo’s success in developing the sensor? A. Constant trials. B. Self-directed learning. C. Financial backing. D. Risk-taking mindset. 31. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph? A. To introduce Avila Pinedo’s future plan. B. To show the prospect of Heart and Sole. C. To acknowledge the InvenTeam’s devotion. D. To stress the nature and impact of invention. D You can buy a lot of things from a vending (售卖) machine including coffee, soft drinks, and snack food. But how many vending machines can give you freshly grown greens? It is said that an Israeli startup is working on a special vending machine — called a Produce Integrated Cultivation Instrument (PICI) — that actually grows healthy and high-quality leafy vegetables inside. And the best part is that PICI can do it faster than growing greens in the field. The vending machine features multiple shelves for various leafy greens and herbs, each providing tailored conditions for optimal growth. An irrigation (灌溉) system ensures plants receive the right amount of water, while an Al-powered camera monitors their progress. When ready, plants are dispensed for consumption. “It’s like a small factory that grows and supplies the produce,” said Elitzur, the founder of the startup. The PICI has other benefits too. Because the machine is filled with seeds inside of capsules and not whole plants, it makes shipping cheaper, storage easier, and avoids damaging plants in transit. The startup was founded in early 2023, after Elitzur realized that the greens grown globally wither quickly to travel a long distance to get to market and to consumers. The greens often do not arrive in peak freshness. “These types of crops need to be kept in the refrigerator and have a short life, which is an issue,” he said. Elitzur believes that with increased urbanization and climate change, current agricultural methods and the food supply chain from seeds to harvest have to be changed. The PICI unit will consolidate the fresh produce chain to reduce food waste and bring fresh greens to consumers as quickly as possible. That’s why the vending machines were developed as a way to grow fresh greens where the end users are; in supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and hospitals. This will free up farmers to use their fields to grow other needed vegetables in a more efficient and sustainable way. 32. Why is the PICI special compared with traditional planting? A. It can make greens grow faster. B. It needs less manpower. C. It has a broader sales channel. D. It can grow more types of vegetables. 33. What is the second paragraph mainly about the PICI? A. Its supply categories. B. Its planting conditions. C. Its distinctive features. D. Its monitoring technology. 34. What is the purpose of the PICI? A. To improve crop yields. B. To keep vegetables fresh and green. C. To develop new types of vegetables. D. To make food transport more convenient. 35. What can we expect of the PICl in the future? A. It’ll enable farmers to diversify their planting. B. It’ll cooperate with more restaurants. C. It’ll hire more people to deliver food. D. It’ll promote the expansion of land area. How do you react to challenges? Her heart raced with excitement and nerves. She really wanted to find where she belonged and make friends in this new world. As Lily stepped onto the school campus, the air was thick with the sounds of chatter and laughter. She looked around and saw a group of girls standing in a corner. One girl, Jessica, who had long, pretty hair, waved at Lily. Lily’s heart started beating even faster. She walked over with a big smile. Jessica said that they were going to an amazing party that weekend and that she should definitely go. Lily felt so happy, thinking this was her chance to be part of them. At lunchtime, the girls chattered non-stop about the upcoming party, their laughter filling the air. However, as the conversation progressed, it took an unexpected turn. They started talking about skipping classes. At first, Lily laughed along, trying to fit in, but a sense of unease settled in the pit of her stomach. When they asked her to sneak (偷溜) out at night, she murmured, “I’m not sure about that.” “Come on, Lily! Everyone does it! You want to fit in, right?” Jessica insisted. Lily forced a smile and nodded, but she felt so torn. One day, things took a turn for the worse. Jessica and her friends encouraged Lily to try smoking a cigarette. But as Lily held the cigarette in her hand, fear gripped her. In that moment, she knew this wasn’t who she was. Overwhelmed and stressed, Lily decided to go to the art room alone. When she picked up a paintbrush and started to paint, she found that the colors on the canvas created a safe space where she could forget her problems and feel calm. Just then, the door creaked open, and a girl with curly hair walked in. The girl introduced herself as Mia. As they started to talk, they discovered a shared love for art, and soon, they were chatting about their favorite movies, books, and hobbies. In contrast to her time with Jessica’s group, Lily felt at ease with Mia. For weeks, Lily felt caught between Mia and Jessica. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As she walked away from Jessica, Lily felt a weight off her mind. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 泸县五中高2022级高考适应性考试 英语 试卷分为第1卷(阅读题)和第I1卷(表达题)两部分,共8页,满分150分。 How will the woman help the man? M: My grandfather was a teacher. He was a teacher of a school for children ranging in age from thirteen to eighteen. I know that he was a kind and gentle man at heart because when I was young, he gave me presents, sat me on his knee, and told me stories. But I believe the children at his school were afraid of him. At school, when he walked into a room full of noisy students, there was silence at once. When he looked at students with a certain look in his eyes, the students went red in the face and looked down at their shoes. If the students handed in work that wasn’t their best, my grandfather would strictly ask them to do it again and return it the next morning. If the students were late and didn’t bring the work, he would ask them to rewrite, emphasizing the value of persistence and effort. My grandfather always kept track of such instances to ensure the students learned from the experience. He was a very different man at school than the man I saw day by day in our home. A The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) is the largest museum in the United States! A Roughly two years. The Key to Unspoken Love 【答案】24. C 25. B 26. A 27. 28. B 29. A 30. B 31. 32 Why is the PICI special compared with traditional planting? A 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第一段“It is said that an Israeli startup is working on a special vending machine — called a Produce Integrated Cultivation Instrument (PICI) — that actually grows healthy and high-quality leafy vegetables inside. And the best part is that PICI can do it faster than growing greens in the field. (据说一家以色列初创公司正在研发一种名为农产品综合种植仪器 (PICI) 的特殊自动售卖机,它能在内部种植健康优质的叶菜类蔬菜,并且PICI种植蔬菜的速度比在田地里种植更快。)”可知,与传统种植相比,PICI的特别之处在于它能让蔬菜生长得更快。故选A。 根据第二段“The vending machine features multiple shelves for various leafy greens and herbs, each providing tailored conditions for optimal growth. An irrigation (灌溉) system ensures plants receive the right amount of water, while an Al-powered camera monitors their progress. When ready, plants are dispensed for consumption. (该售卖机的特点是有多个放置各种叶菜类蔬菜和香草的架子,每个架子都为植物的最佳生长提供定制条件,有灌溉系统确保植物获得适量的水,还有人工智能摄像头监控植物的生长进度,成熟后可供食用)”可知,第二段描述了PICI的多层种植架、定制灌溉系统、AI监控技术,这些内容均围绕其独特设计和技术特点展开,所以第二段主要讲的是PICI的独特特点。故选C。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“The startup was founded in early 2023, after Elitzur realized that the greens grown globally wither quickly to travel a long distance to get to market and to consumers. (在Elitzur意识到全球种植的绿叶蔬菜在长途运输到市场和消费者手中的过程中会很快枯萎之后,这家初创公司于2023年初成立)”以及第五段“The PICI unit will consolidate the fresh produce chain to reduce food waste and bring fresh greens to consumers as quickly as possible. (PICI设备将整合新鲜农产品供应链,以减少食物浪费,并尽快将新鲜的绿叶蔬菜送到消费者手中 )”可知,PICI的目的是保持蔬菜新鲜,减少食物浪费,给消费者提供新鲜的蔬菜。故选B。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“This will free up farmers to use their fields to grow other needed vegetables in a more efficient and sustainable way. (这将使农民能够腾出土地,以更高效且可持续的方式种植其他所需的蔬菜)”可知,未来PICI能让农民使他们的种植多样化。故选A。 How do you react to challenges? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】For weeks, Lily felt caught between Mia and Jessica. Jessica kept inviting her to more parties full of bad behaviors. Lily was afraid of losing this so-called ‌“friendship”. Meanwhile, Mia often asked Lily to take part in art-related activities. They would go to art galleries or paint together in the studio. Lily was drawn to the pure and positive atmosphere with Mia, but she was still hesitant to cut ties with Jessica. One day, Jessica’s group planned a dangerous prank during a school event. Lily firmly refused, realizing she couldn’t follow them any longer. As she walked away from Jessica, Lily felt a weight off her mind. She rushed to Mia’s side and told her everything. Mia hugged her tightly and said, ‌“You made the right choice, Lily.” From then on, Lily dedicated more time to art with Mia. They inspired each other, and their art skills improved rapidly. They even held a small art exhibition at school. Lily finally found her real circle of friends and a place where she truly belonged, a world filled with art and positive energy. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①参与:take part in/participate in ②被……所吸引:be drawn to/be attracted to ③拒绝:refuse/decline 情绪类 ①害怕的:afraid/frightened ②犹豫的:hesitant/faltering 【点睛】[高分句型1] Lily firmly refused, realizing she couldn’t follow them any longer. Listen to the next question. My grandfather was a teacher. He was a teacher of a school for children ranging in age from thirteen to eighteen. I know that he was a kind and gentle man at heart, because when I was Young, he gave me presence, SAT me on his knee and told me stories. But I believe the children at a school were afraid of him at school. When he walked into a room full of noisy students, there was silence at once. When he looked at students with a certain look in his eyes, the students went red in the face and looked down at their shoes. If the students handed in work that wasn't their best, my grandfather would strictly ask them to do IT again and return IT the next morning. If the students were late and didn't bring the work, he would ask them to rewrite, emphasizing the value of persistence and effort. My grandfather always kept track of such instances to ensure the students learned from the experience. He was a very different man at school. Then the man I saw day by day in our home.
