The name is a combination of “sport” and the Japanese word for rubbish, “gomi”. During the game, you’re given an area of roughly 1.5 sq km, and have to collect as much litter as possible within an hour or so, with some items awarded more points than others. I participated in the UK SpoGomi competition held in London this August. My teammates were my husband Alex and his brother Jonny. We won by 33 points. We were then heading for the World Cup in Tokyo. The night we arrived, we walked around the competition area, which was in the busy commercial Shibuya district. We thought about the profile of people who drop litter: probably typically younger people or people who were drinking. That helped us narrow down where to go. So we made note of areas with lots of bars. With 21 nations participating, the competition of the World Cup was intense. At one point, the members of another team, came over to us and tried to pick rubbish out of our bag. After the first half, Japan came top, we were second and the Brazilian team was third. My muscles were aching and I felt completely wiped out from the heat of Tokyo on a sunny day. I didn’t have much more energy, and I remember Alex and Jonny saying the same, but we had this feeling of being on the edge of something amazing. We had to just keep pushing. We pulled ahead in the second half and ended up coming first, with 57 kg of rubbish collected. Before SpoGomi, I wouldn’t have imagined myself as someone who picked litter up off the street. At the early stage of our training, we were so bad at finding litter. Then, just after the London competition, on the way home, we saw so much. We were just much aware of it. Once you’re drawn into SpoGomi, your attitude towards litter and how you contribute completely changes. 4. Which statement defines SpoGomi? A. A litter-picking contest. B. A Japanese word game. C. A recycling competition. D. A marathon originating in Japan. 5. What did the author’s team do to prepare for the World Cup? A. They talked with young locals. B. They studied the rules of the sport. C They went to bars to relax their minds. D. They made an exploration of the playing area. 6. How might the author describe the World Cup? A. Well-ordered B. Mentally absorbing C. Back-breaking D. Culturally shocking 7. What change did the author experience through SpoGomi? A. Improved physical fitness. B. Appreciation for Japanese culture. C. Increased environmental awareness. D. International recognition as a World Cup champion. A 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“The name is a combination of “sport” and the Japanese word for rubbish, “gomi”. During the game, you’re given an area of roughly 1.5 sq km, and have to collect as much litter as possible within an hour or so, with some items awarded more points than others. (这个名字是“运动”和日语中表示垃圾的词“gomi”的组合。在游戏中,你会得到一个大约1.5平方公里的区域,并且必须在大约一个小时内尽可能多地收集垃圾,其中一些物品比其他物品获得更多的分数。)”可知,SpoGomi是一个捡垃圾比赛,故选A项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“We were then heading for the World Cup in Tokyo. The night we arrived, we walked around the competition area, which was in the busy commercial Shibuya district. We thought about the profile of people who drop litter: probably typically younger people or people who were drinking. That helped us narrow down where to go. (我们当时正前往东京世界杯。我们到达的当晚,在位于繁华商业区涩谷的比赛区域附近散步。我们思考了乱丢垃圾的人的特征:可能通常是年轻人或者正在喝酒的人。这帮助我们缩小了行动范围。)”可知,作者团队到达东京世界杯比赛场地后,在比赛区域四处走动进行了考察,这有助于他们确定要去的地方,也就是为比赛做准备,故选D项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“My muscles were aching and I felt completely wiped out from the heat of Tokyo on a sunny day. I didn’t have much more energy, and I remember Alex and Jonny saying the same, but we had this feeling of being on the edge of something amazing. (我的肌肉酸痛,在阳光明媚的日子里,我感觉完全被东京的炎热所消磨殆尽。我没有太多的精力,我记得Alex和Jonny也说过同样的话,但我们有一种感觉,就像我们正处于神奇事物的边缘。)”可知,比赛过程很激烈,作者肌肉酸痛、精疲力竭,所以作者可能会用Back-breaking(累人的、辛苦的)来描述世界杯比赛,故选C项 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Before SpoGomi, I wouldn’t have imagined myself as someone who picked litter up off the street. At the early stage of our training, we were so bad at finding litter. Then, just after the London competition, on the way home, we saw so much. We were just much aware of it. Once you’re drawn into SpoGomi, your attitude towards litter and how you contribute completely changes. C Every week, Angela looked at her recycling bin, filled with shampoo bottles and plastic containers, with mixed feelings. Sure, it was a lot of plastic, but it was going to be recycled. Or so she thought. Then, her husband sent her some articles revealing that less than 6% of the country’s plastic gets recycled. She was shocked. Determined to cut back on her plastic consumption, Angela got a starter kit from a company selling refillable household cleaners In it were tablets, containing concentrated hand soap as well as glass and bathroom cleaners, and four empty containers. She filled each one with tap water, then dropped in a tablet and watched it dissolve. If she was happy with the cleaners, she would order more tablets but reuse the containers. No new plastic required. Given plastic’s harmful effects on the environment, nearly three quarters of Americans say they are trying to reduce their reliance on single-use plastic, according to Pew Research Center. Since plastic is everywhere and avoiding it altogether is extraordinarily difficult, some, like Angela, have revived a once-customary practice: refilling containers. Household cleaners seem particularly prepared for a refill revolution, for many can be easily concentrated and reconstituted (with water. If just 10% to 20% of plastic packaging are reused, a report from the World Economic Forum estimates, the amount of plastic waste entering the ocean will be cut in half. Not everyone is as enthusiastic, though. Jan Dell, a chemical engineer, noted that many cleaning products are packaged in PET or HDPE, two types of plastic with relatively high recycling rates. So she is less concerned about them but far more concerned about the packaging of other products. “What companies should be focusing on is everything else that isn’t recyclable, that is single use and that often becomes plastic pollution,” she said, pointing to plastic bags and cups. “This is just a classic example of big corporations doing something to attract people’s attention over here on something that’s not the main issue to distract from all the single-use plastic they’re pushing out.” 8. Why is Angela mentioned? A. To promote a tablet. B. To lead in the topic. C. To clarify a concept. D. To recommend a kit. 9. What does the underlined word “dissolve” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Float over water. B. Turn over in water. C. Change color in water. D. Mix with water. 10. What’s Jan Dell’s attitude towards the deeds of big corporations? A. Critical. B. Favourable. C. Conservative. D. Unconcerned. 11. Where is the text probably taken from? A. A chemistry paper. B. An academic report. C. A lifestyle magazine. D. A cleaner advertisement. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第一段“Then, her husband sent her some articles revealing that less than 6% of the country’s plastic gets recycled. She was shocked.(然后,她的丈夫给她发了一些文章,透露这个国家只有不到6%的塑料被回收。她很震惊)”以及第二段“Determined to cut back on her plastic consumption, Angela got a starter kit from a company selling refillable household cleaners.(为了减少塑料消费,安吉拉从一家销售可重复使用家用清洁器的公司买了一套入门套件)”、“If she was happy with the cleaners, she would order more tablets but reuse the containers. No new plastic required.(如果她对清洁剂满意,她会订购更多的片剂,但重复使用容器。不需要新的塑料)”可知,安吉拉购买家用清洁器,重复使用塑料容器,减少塑料的使用,作者提到安吉拉是为了引入文章的主题。故选B。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“In it were tablets, containing concentrated hand soap as well as glass and bathroom cleaners, and four empty containers. She filled each one with tap water, then dropped in a tablet and watched it dissolve.(里面有片剂,包含浓缩洗手液、玻璃和浴室清洁剂,还有四个空容器。她给每一个都装满了自来水,然后放入一片,看着它dissolve)”以及常识可知,安吉拉在容器中放入水和片剂,片剂会溶于水,推测划线单词表示“溶解”,与Mix with water同义。故选D。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““What companies should be focusing on is everything else that isn’t recyclable, that is single use and that often becomes plastic pollution,” she said, pointing to plastic bags and cups. “This is just a classic example of big corporations doing something to attract people’s attention over here on something that’s not the main issue to distract from all the single-use plastic they’re pushing out.”(她指着塑料袋和塑料杯说:“公司应该关注的是其他不可回收的、一次性的、经常成为塑料污染的东西。”。“这只是一个典型的例子,大公司在一些不是主要问题的事情上做一些事情来吸引人们的注意力,以分散人们对他们推出的所有一次性塑料的注意力。”)”可知,Jan Dell认为大公司推出一次性塑料产品时,采取的方法是分散人们的注意力,而不是解决问题,所以Jan Dell对大公司的行为持批评的态度。故选A。 根据第一段“Every week, Angela looked at her recycling bin, filled with shampoo bottles and plastic containers, with mixed feelings. Sure, it was a lot of plastic, but it was going to be recycled. Or so she thought. Then, her husband sent her some articles revealing that less than 6% of the country’s plastic gets recycled. C。 D When I began to learn Chinese, I pursued what many around me saw as an unconventional strategy. Instead of painstakingly writing out characters and practising sentence order, I set out to make as much of a fool of myself as possible. I spoke my mistake-ridden Chinese with friends, annoyed teachers with bad jokes and punished my ears with native music and podcasts. It wasn't perfect, but it was enough to interview people and read short news articles in just a year. Organizational psychologist Adam Grant neatly sums up this method alongside other systems and qualities in his new book. “Being a creature of discomfort,” Grant writes, “can unlock hidden potential to do greater things than their background or experience might suggest.” This is essential for more than learning a skill or a language; this is what he says takes individuals to the pinnacle (顶峰) of their industry. Grant writes that universities and companies should take more steps to recognize potential, and where an individual has overcome difficulties like growing up in poverty. This quantifying the unquantifiable could be done, he suggests, by looking at the rate of change of a student's grades as well as the final score. The example of Mexican-American Jose Hernandez comes to mind. The astronaut attained his dream of joining NASA after being rejected countless times by a system that did not take into account his different experiences working as a farm labourer when he was young and overcoming struggles. Systems, therefore, need to change to find the best people. This is also a key message in the book: Improve the pipelines so that better people come up in the future. 12. What did the author do to learn Chinese initially? A. He read the latest stories. B. He wrote out characters carefully. C. He did sentence order exercises regularly. D. He spoke the language regardless of errors. 13. What can lead one to remarkable success according to Grant? A. Putting oneself in uncomfortable situations. B. Having a strong educational background. C. Obtaining relevant work experience. D. Keeping comfortable relationships. 14. What does Grant expects schools to do? A. Prioritize students' social skills. B. Focus on students 'final assessment results. C. Track the progress of students' performance. D. Ask students to learn from great individuals. 15. What might be the title for Grant’s new book? A. Breaking Through Rejections: You Are Your Own Boss B. Hidden Potential: The Science of Achieving Greater Things C. The Unconventional Path: Breaking Norms for Personal Growth D. From Poverty to Pinnacle: Redefining Success Through Strategies 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第一段的句子“Instead of painstakingly writing out characters and practising sentence order, I set out to make as much of a fool of myself as possible. I spoke my mistake - ridden Chinese with friends(我没有煞费苦心地写字,练习句子顺序,而是尽可能地让自己出丑。我和朋友们说着我那充满错误的中文)”可知,作者最初学习中文时,不顾错误地开口说中文。故选D项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段的句子“‘Being a creature of discomfort,’ Grant writes, ‘can unlock hidden potential to do greater things than their background or experience might suggest. This is what he says takes individuals to the pinnacle (顶峰) of their industry.’(格兰特写道:“做一个不舒服的人,可以释放潜在的潜力,让他们做比背景或经历所暗示的更伟大的事情。”这就是他所说的将个人推向行业巅峰的方式。)” 可知,格兰特认为让人处于不适的状态能释放隐藏潜力,使人取得非凡的成功。故选A项。 根据第三段的句子“Grant writes that universities and companies should take more steps to recognize potential, and where an individual has overcome difficulties like growing up in poverty. This quantifying the unquantifiable could be done, he suggests, by looking at the rate of change of a student's grades as well as the final score.(格兰特写道,大学和公司应该采取更多措施来发现潜力,以及个人克服了贫困等困难的地方。他建议,通过观察学生的成绩变化率和最终分数,可以对无法量化的东西进行量化。)”可知,格兰特期望学校关注学生成绩的变化率,即跟踪学生成绩的进步情况。故选C项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第二段的句子“‘Being a creature of discomfort,’ Grant writes, ‘can unlock hidden potential to do greater things than their background or experience might suggest.’ This is essential for more than learning a skill or a language; this is what he says takes individuals to the pinnacle (顶峰) of their industry.’(格兰特写道:‘做一个不舒服的人,可以释放潜在的潜力,让他们做比背景或经历所暗示的更伟大的事情。’这不仅是学习一门技能或一门语言的必要条件;这就是他所说的将个人推向行业巅峰的方式。)”可知,Grant的书核心是“潜力”与“科学方法”。选项B“Hidden Potential: The Science of Achieving Greater Things(隐藏的潜力:取得更大成就的科学)”直接呼应主题。 Peloton star Ben Alldis shares his “forever exercise” tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. ● Start small. Something as simple as going for a walk in nature is incredibly beneficial for our mental and physical health. ____16____ Be honest about where you’d like to get to, and put small steps in place to make improvements. ● Mix up your training. There’s real benefit in just moving your body through things like walking to work and gardening. I think the concept of exercise being “over here”, and then everything else being “over there”, is too limiting. It needs to be more inclusive. ____17____ ● Be smart with your diary. I like to talk about “energy givers” versus “energy takers”. Energy takers are things like spending too much time on social media and binge drinking; while exercise and good food are energy givers. I was an athlete growing up, then I went into finance in my 20s and lost myself totally. ____18____ But when I changed my lifestyle, my productivity levels increased. ● Give priority to sleep. I read Matthew Walker’s book Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams. ____19____ I saw a dramatic influence on my productivity levels and ability to just function. So I’ll look at what I did last night before I went to bed, and then look at the impact it had on my sleep. Understand your body clock. Everyone has a different rhythm — some people work better later in the day, others prefer to get up early. So the most important thing is finding the right time for you. ____20____ If you prioritise your health as much as you prioritise other things, and schedule it in your diary like a meeting, it’s far more likely to happen. A. I’ve learnt to schedule workouts. B. If cycling’s your usual thing, with tennis or yoga. C. If you run out of motivation, change your workout routine. D. It inspired me to dig deeply into sleep and prioritize it. E. I’d recommend taking an assessment of where you are today. F. I didn’t have a gym membership, or have time to work out. G. Slowly you make improvements, and the quality of your sleep gets better. E 17. B 18. F 19. D 20. Something as simple as going for a walk in nature is incredibly beneficial for our mental and physical health.(从小事做起。像在大自然中散步这样简单的事情对我们的身心健康非常有益)”以及后文“Be honest about where you’d like to get to, and put small steps in place to make improvements.(诚实地说出你想要达到的目标,并采取适当的小步骤来改进)”可知,后文提到了说出要达到的目标,并采取适当的小步骤来改进,说明要先对情况进行评估,然后制定目标。故E选项“我建议你对自己今天的情况做一个评估”符合语境,故选E。 【17题详解】 根据上文“● Mix up your training. There’s real benefit in just moving your body through things like walking to work and gardening. I think the concept of exercise being “over here”, and then everything else being “over there”, is too limiting. It needs to be more inclusive.(●混合你的训练。通过步行上班和园艺等活动来锻炼身体确实有好处。我认为把运动放在“这边”,其他的都放在“那边”的概念太局限了。它需要更具包容性)”可知,本段的主旨是混合各种运动,故B选项“如果你平时喜欢骑自行车,那就把它和网球或瑜伽混在一起”符合语境,故选B。 【18题详解】 根据上文“● Be smart with your diary. I like to talk about “energy givers” versus “energy takers”. Energy takers are things like spending too much time on social media and binge drinking; while exercise and good food are energy givers. I was an athlete growing up, then I went into finance in my 20s and lost myself totally.(●聪明地写日记。 I read Matthew Walker’s book Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams.( ●优先考虑睡眠。我读了马修·沃克的书《我们为什么睡觉:睡眠与梦的新科学》)”可知,本句承接上文说明这本书对作者的影响:激励我深入研究睡眠,并将其列为优先事项。故D选项“它激励我深入研究睡眠,并将其列为优先事项”符合语境,故选D。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Understand your body clock. Everyone has a different rhythm — some people work better later in the day, others prefer to get up early. So the most important thing is finding the right time for you.(了解你的生物钟。每个人都有不同的节奏——有些人在一天的晚些时候工作得更好,有些人则喜欢早起。所以最重要的是为你找到合适的时间)”以及后文“If you prioritise your health as much as you prioritise other things, and schedule it in your diary like a meeting, it’s far more likely to happen.(如果你把健康看得和其他事情一样重要,并把它像会议一样安排在你的日记里,那就更有可能实现)”可知,后文提到了健康,上文提到了根据生物钟找到合适的时间,说明本句与找时间安排锻炼,保持健康有关。 Hearing the Olympics were coming to Vancouver, I decided to go for its voluntary work. But Aamir, a homeless Indian boy, doubted it. Wandering the noisy railway platform, he found one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it, his bare foot pressing awkwardly against the ground. However, it was beyond repair. He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people’s shoes. Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two boyish legs wearing flawlessly white socks and equally perfect black leather shoes, which were glittering in the mid-day sun. It was a boy of his age. He couldn’t treasure his possession too much, obviously, because every ten seconds, he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped a dust or two from his shoes. His father was constantly glancing over and urging him, “Hurry up! The train is coming!” Aamir’s eyes followed the father and son, but mostly the leather shoes, as if enchanted Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather, jaw-dropping look on his friends’ faces, he couldn’t help cracking a big smile. The bell of the train drew him back; the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (车厢), one of his shoes fell off and before he could pick it up, the train began to pull away. The shoe was now lying alone on the platform. Aamir’s eyes lit up with excitement. Like an arrow, he shot for the shoe and then picked it up, holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen’s crown. After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back, he began racing--with only one good shoe, his flip-flop. He held the leather shoe up, trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately reaching out his hand as well. However, it was never close enough. Para 1: That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para 2: But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw. However, he abruptly fell off because of the broken flip-flop. Without a second thought, he tried again, the shoe just flew past the window frame and fell on the platform like a dead leaf. Seeing this, Aamir stamped his feet, wearing a frustrated look. “Are shoes really made for walking?”, Aamir thought with depression. He drooped his head, not knowing what to do next. But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. Miraculously, it landed on the platform several steps away from him. Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance. What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away. Twenty years later, when he was launching his new footwear product at a press conference, wearing a pair of shining leather shoes, Aamir started his presentation with a simple sentence: “Shoes are made for walking.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①扔:throw/throw away/throw over ②固定:fix on/focus on ③掉下来:fall off/drop off ④下垂:droop/lower ⑤消失:vanish/disappear/gone 情感类 ①有力的:powerful/strong/hefty ②沮丧的:frustrated/dispirited/depressed/disheartened/disappointed ③奇迹般地:miraculously/amazingly/surprisingly 【点睛】【高分句型1】With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw.(使用了独立主格结构作伴随状语) 【高分句型2】Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance.(使用了before引导时间状语从句和现在分词表进行) 【高分句型3】What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away.(使用了what引导主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 四川省江油中学高2022级高三上期12月月考 英语试题 考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分 第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. Tom Lake D. The Guardian B SpoGomi was invented in Japan in 2008. C. They went to bars to relax their minds. D. They made an exploration of the playing area. 6. How might the author describe the World Cup? A. Well-ordered B. Mentally absorbing C. Back-breaking D. Culturally shocking 7. What change did the author experience through SpoGomi? A. Improved physical fitness. B. Appreciation for Japanese culture. C. Increased environmental awareness. D. International recognition as a World Cup champion. Not everyone is as enthusiastic though. D When I began to learn Chinese, I pursued what many around me saw as an unconventional strategy. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
