根据文章第一段“This half day tour combines the thrill of a canoeing river trip from Clashganny, just south of Borris Town over all rapids to reach the abbey town of Graiguenamanagh.(这趟半日游将从博里斯镇以南的克拉什甘尼出发的独木舟河上之旅的刺激体验融为一体,(旅程中)会经过所有的急流,最终抵达修道院小镇格雷瓜纳马纳赫。)” 故选A。 根据Pure Adventure部分“Afternoon options: If you want to know more about the birds, plants, fungi, mammals of the Blackstairs Mountains, Blackstairs Eco Trails can lead you on a relaxing eco-walk — low hills to no hills — and also provide eco-trails, guided hikes, foraging (觅食) workshops, wild herbal workshops and wild mushroom events.(下午的活动选择:如果你想更多地了解黑斯泰尔斯山脉的鸟类、植物、真菌和哺乳动物,黑斯泰尔斯生态步道可以带你进行一次轻松的生态徒步旅行——沿途是低缓的山丘甚至没有山丘——还能提供生态小径、有导游带领的徒步活动、觅食研习班、野生药草研习班以及野生蘑菇相关活动。)” 故选A。 根据文章第二段“Professionally guided, all tours are suitable for groups of friends, families and work colleagues and allow you to really appreciate the wide open spaces and unspoilt waterway of the River Barrow.( 所有旅行都有专业导游陪同,适合朋友、家人和同事群体,让您能够真正欣赏到巴罗河广阔的开放空间和未受破坏的河道。)” C。 B At my first lesson in Chinese calligraphy, my teacher told me plainly: “Now I will teach you how to write your name. And to make it beautiful.” I felt my breath catch. I was curious. Growing up in Singapore, I had an unusual relationship with my Chinese name. My parents are ethnically Chinese, so they asked fortune tellers to decide my name, aiming for maximum luck. As a result, I ended up with a nonsense and embarrassing name: Chen Yiwen, meaning, roughly, “old”, “barley (薏米)” and “warm”. When I arrived in America for college at 18, I put on an American accent and abandoned my Chinese name. When I moved to Hong Kong in 2021, after 14 years in the States, I decided to learn calligraphy. Why not get back in touch with my heritage? I thought. In calligraphy, the idea is to copy the old masters’ techniques, thereby refining your own. Every week, though, my teacher would give uncomfortably on-the-nose assessments of my person. “You need to be braver,” he once observed. “Have confidence. Try to produce a bold stroke(笔画).” For years, I had prided myself on presenting an image of confidence, but my writing betrayed me. I was trying to make sense of this practice. You must visualize the word as it is to be written and leave a trace of yourself in it. As a bodily practice, calligraphy could go beyond its own cultural restrictions. Could it help me go beyond mine? My teacher once said to me, “When you look at the word, you see the body. Though a word on the page is two-dimensional, it contains multitudes, conveying the force you’ve applied, the energy of your grip, the arch of your spine.” I had been learning calligraphy to get in touch with my cultural roots, but what I was really seeking was a return to myself. Now I have sensed that the pleasure out of calligraphy allows me to know myself more fully. During a recent lesson, my teacher pointed at the word I had just finished, telling me: “This word is much better. I can see the choices you made, your calculations, your flow. Trust yourself. This word is yours.” He might as well have said, “This word is you.” 4. What did the author initially think of her name “Chen Yiwen”? A. It was lucky so she gladly accepted it. B. She felt proud of its symbolic meaning. C. She understood the intention but still disliked it. D. Its strange pronunciation made her embarrassed. 5. The author decided to learn calligraphy to ______. A. pick up a new hobby B. reconnect with her origin C. gain insights into a new culture D. fit in with local community 6. From the teacher’s words, the author learns that calligraphy ______. A. reflects the creator’s spirits B. comes from creative energy C. highlights the design of strokes D. depends on continuous practice 7. What does the author intend to tell us? A. Appreciate what our culture offers. B. Find beauty from your inner self. C. A great teacher leads you to truth. D. We are the sum of what we create. C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第二段“My parents are ethnically Chinese, so they asked fortune tellers to decide my name, aiming for maximum luck. As a result, I ended up with a nonsense and embarrassing name: Chen Yiwen, meaning, roughly, “old”, “barley (薏米)” and “warm”.( 我的父母是华裔,所以他们请算命先生给我取名字,希望能给我带来最大的好运。于是,我给自己取了一个毫无意义又尴尬的名字:陈薏温,意思大致是“陈旧”、“薏米”、“温暖”)”可知, 作者认为自己的名字“Chen Yi wen”是无意义且令人尴尬的,虽然父母是为了追求最大的运气才取这个名字,但她还是不喜欢。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“When I moved to Hong Kong in 2021, after 14 years in the States, I decided to learn calligraphy. Why not get back in touch with my heritage? I thought.(当我在美国生活了14年后,于2021年搬到香港时,我决定学习书法。为什么不跟我的传统联系一下呢?我想)”可知,作者决定学习书法是为了重新接触自己的文化根源。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“During a recent lesson, my teacher pointed at the word I had just finished, telling me: “This word is much better. I can see the choices you made, your calculations, your flow. Trust yourself. This word is yours.” He might as well have said, “This word is you.”(在最近的一次课上,老师指着我刚完成的字对我说:“这个字好多了。我能看到你所做的选择,你的计算,你的心流。相信自己。这个词是你的。”他还不如说:“这个字就是你。”)”可推知,从老师的话中,作者了解到书法反映了创作者的精神。故选A。 通读全文,特别是根据最后一段“During a recent lesson, my teacher pointed at the word I had just finished, telling me: “This word is much better. I can see the choices you made, your calculations, your flow. Trust yourself. This word is yours.” He might as well have said, “This word is you.”(在最近的一次课上,老师指着我刚完成的字对我说:“这个字好多了。我能看到你所做的选择,你的计算,你的心流。相信自己。这个词是你的。”他还不如说:“这个字就是你。”)”可知,作者最初学习书法是为了 “接触文化遗产(get back in touch with my heritage)”,但过程中逐渐意识到 “what I was really seeking was a return to myself(我真正寻求的是回归自我)”,最终感悟到 “the pleasure out of calligraphy allows me to know myself more fully(书法带来的乐趣让我更全面地了解自己)”。 B。 C “We have memories from what happened earlier today and memories from what happened earlier last week and even from a few years ago,” says Yates, a cognitive neuroscientist at Columbia University. “But all of us lack memories from our infancy (婴儿期).” Is that because we don’t make memories when we’re babies? Now, in a new research published by Yates and her coworkers in the journal Science, they propose that babies are able to form memories, even if they become inaccessible later in life. “There’s a reason why we don’t know much about infant memories,” says Yates. “One of the best ways to look deep in the brain is with a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) machine, which requires a person to remain still for an extended period of time!” Yates and her coworkers have spent nearly a decade figuring out how to do fMRI research on babies. They came up with all sorts of tricks to keep them happy and engaged. If they cry, the experiment will stop so the baby can play. The babies were shown a video inside the fMRI machine. Throughout, the background displayed a green kaleidoscopic (千变万化的) pattern. Then, one image at a time appeared for two seconds before disappearing. These were images they had never seen before — a canyon, a toy dog and a woman’s face. “About a minute later,” says Yates, “we show them one image they just saw alongside a different image. That could be the canyon, say, alongside a waterfall.” If the baby remembers seeing the canyon earlier, he will watch the canyon longer. “It’s as if you’re still learning about it, so you’re looking at it more,” says Yates. “It’s only really when they have a preference for the familiar thing that we take that as evidence of successful memory formation.” This experiment revealed that starting at about 12 months, the more activity there was in the baby’s hippocampus (海马体), a region that we know is super important for memory in adults, when seeing an image for the first time — like that canyon — the more likely he/ she was to remember that image later. 8. Why do researchers know little about infant memories? A. Doing fMRI research on infants is hard. B. Infants’ brain structure is different. C. They lack the best imaging machines. D. They haven’t invested in it. 9. What do we know about the experiment? A. The procedure is rather complex. B. It went horribly wrong. C. Infants’ attention to the screen is a must. D. Infants had to rest during it. 10. How do infants show they remember an image according to the research? A. By showing a preference for a new image. B. By looking longer at the familiar thing. C. By focusing on the fMRI machine. D. By starting crying for help. 11. What does the author imply in the last paragraph? A. Adults’ hippocampus was more active. B. Infants have a separate memory process. C. Memory formation relies on physical activities. D. A memory has formed in the baby’s hippocampus. 【答案】8 A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第三段“One of the best ways to look deep in the brain is with a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) machine, which requires a person to remain still for an extended period of time! (观察大脑深处的最好方法之一是使用功能性磁共振成像仪(fMRI),这需要一个人长时间保持静止!)”以及第四段“Yates and her coworkers have spent nearly a decade figuring out how to do fMRI research on babies. (耶茨和她的同事花了近十年的时间研究如何对婴儿进行功能磁共振成像研究。)”可推断,研究人员对婴儿的记忆知之甚少是因为对婴儿做核磁共振研究很难。故选A。 根据第四段“If they cry, the experiment will stop so the baby can play. (如果他们哭了,实验就会停止,这样婴儿就可以玩了。)”以及第五段“Then, one image at a time appeared for two seconds before disappearing. These were images they had never seen before — a canyon, a toy dog and a woman’s face. “About a minute later,” says Yates, “we show them one image they just saw alongside a different image. That could be the canyon, say, alongside a waterfall.” (然后,每次出现一个图像,持续两秒钟,然后消失。这些是他们以前从未见过的图像——一个峡谷,一只玩具狗和一张女人的脸。“大约一分钟后,”耶茨说,“我们向他们展示他们刚刚看到的一张照片和另一张照片。那可能是瀑布旁边的峡谷。”)”可推断,试验中,婴儿需要集中注意力。故选C。 10题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“If the baby remembers seeing the canyon earlier, he will watch the canyon longer. “It’s as if you’re still learning about it, so you’re looking at it more,” says Yates. “It’s only really when they have a preference for the familiar thing that we take that as evidence of successful memory formation.” (如果婴儿记得早些时候看到过峡谷,他会更长时间地观看峡谷。耶茨说:“就好像你还在学习,所以你会更多地关注它。”“只有当他们对熟悉的东西有偏好时,我们才会把它作为成功形成记忆的证据。”)”可知,当婴儿长时间注视一个熟悉的图片时就表明他们记住了这个图片。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“This experiment revealed that starting at about 12 months, the more activity there was in the baby’s. hippocampus (海马体), a region that we know is super important for memory in adults, when seeing an image for the first time — like that canyon — the more likely he/she was to remember that image later. (这个实验表明,从大约12个月开始,婴儿的大脑活动越多。海马体,一个我们知道对成年人的记忆非常重要的区域,当他/她第一次看到一个图像——比如那个峡谷——他/她以后就越有可能记住这个图像。)”可推断,作者暗示婴儿的海马体已经形成了记忆。故选D。 D In his book Ordinary Magic, Stanford psychologist Gregory Walton reveals how small, evidence-based techniques termed “wise interventions” can create far-reaching personal transformation. The concept originated from Walton’s teenage encounter with Stanford social psychologist Claude Steele’s work on “stereotype (刻板印象) threat”: Simply the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about one’s group could disturb them on a challenging test. But a simple reframing (重构) technique like calling a test “a puzzle” can break this cycle. “In tradition, ‘wise’ doesn’t mean good or effective — it’s more like street smarts paired with science,” Walton said. “It’s understanding that, for all of us, there are times in life when you walk into a situation that poses an uncomfortable question — a question that seeks to define you.” These questions often arise during important stages: A child beginning a new school or a college graduate starting his/her first job. Those moments can lead to questions like: “Do I belong here? ”, “Can I do it?” “No one likes these doubts,” said Walton. Often we pay no attention to these thoughts or cry to push them away. But the sad truth is, left unaddressed, doubts like these can make themselves true. That’s what Steele’s stereotype threat did. People worried ‘If I do badly, will people judge my whole group?’. That made it harder to do well on a tough test.” “But we can get ‘wise’ to psychological questions,” Walton said. “We can develop ‘an ear’ for them and when we anticipate when they come up, we can learn to answer them well, both for others and for ourselves.” That effect can be significant. In one study, Walton found that a one-hour session addressing students’ worries about belonging during the change to college improved their lives 10 years later. “It needn’t be fancy. It might be as simple as an encouraging note from a teacher given at the right time,” Walton said. “This is ordinary magic,” said Walton. “Ordinary magic is vision that helps us see the good and competent persons we can become and how we can get there. They show us that failures don’t define us, that barriers are normal and that they need not stop us.” 12. What can a simple reframing technique do according to the text? A. Take the pressure away. B. Make people less confident. C. Remove positive thoughts. D. Get students more worried. 13. What is probably Walton’s suggestion about self-doubts? A. Pushing them away. B. Ignoring them. C. Dealing with them. D. Hiding them inside. 14. If the students were given belonging intervention, ________. A. they depended more on their teachers B. their lives were improved a decade later C. they became doubtful about themselves D. their academic scores were rather higher 15. What is a suitable title for the text? A. The Principle of Ordinary Magic B. The Importance of Addressing Doubts C. The Effects of Stereotype Threat D. The Power of “Wise Interventions” 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第一段“Simply the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about one’s group could disturb them on a challenging test. But a simple reframing (重构) technique like calling a test “a puzzle” can break this cycle.(仅仅是对证实关于自己群体的负面刻板印象的恐惧就可能在具有挑战性的测试中干扰他们。 故选A。 根据第四段“Often we pay no attention to these thoughts or cry to push them away. But the sad truth is, left unaddressed, doubts like these can make themselves true.(我们常常不关注这些想法,或者努力把它们推开。但可悲的是,如果不加以处理,这样的怀疑会变成现实)”和第五段“But we can get ‘wise’ to psychological questions,” Walton said. “We can develop ‘an ear’ for them and when we anticipate when they come up, we can learn to answer them well, both for others and for ourselves.(“但我们可以对心理问题变得‘明智’,” 沃尔顿说。“我们可以培养对这些问题的‘敏锐感知’,当我们预见到这些问题出现时,我们可以学会为他人和自己很好地回答这些问题。”)”可知,对于自我怀疑,沃尔顿的建议是处理它们。故选C。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第六段“In one study, Walton found that a one-hour session addressing students’ worries about belonging during the change to college improved their lives 10 years later.(在一项研究中,沃尔顿发现,在大学转变期间,针对学生对归属感的担忧进行一小时的干预,可以改善他们10年后的生活)”可知,如果学生们接受了归属感干预,他们10年后的生活会得到改善。 根据第一段“In his book Ordinary Magic, Stanford psychologist Gregory Walton reveals how small, evidence-based techniques termed ‘wise interventions’ can create far-reaching personal transformation.(在《Ordinary Magic》一书中,斯坦福大学心理学家格雷戈里·沃尔顿揭示了基于证据的小技巧——被称为‘明智干预’——如何能产生深远的个人转变)”可知,本文主要讲述了沃尔顿在《Ordinary Magic》一书中提出的“明智干预”的概念,以及这种干预如何通过简单的重构技巧来产生深远的个人转变,选项D“‘明智干预’的力量”适合作文章的标题。 Choosing the Right University As a higher education consultant, I’ve conducted extensive research on what students consider when choosing universities. ____16____ Based on the findings, I offer key selection factors that combine both academic and life aspects, which I hope will be helpful for your decision-making. ____17____ Students value professor engagement over pure knowledge. They assess this through small class sizes, interactive senior seminars, and practical learning opportunities like research projects and lab work — all crucial for career preparation. Student services significantly influence daily life. Campus food, tutoring, financial support, and residence quality are all important. How to find relevant services? ____18____ For instance, some universities offer a “student ambassador” program on the website for this purpose, which allows prospective students to get authentic campus life information. University location deeply affects student success. ____19____ My research shows students thrive in cities supporting their hobbies — from hiking trails to music venues—as these activities reduce stress and build friendships. Her underbelly showed the signs of the litter she’d recently delivered. She had a nose for trouble. On one occasion, I had come home to find that she’d eaten a five-pound bag of flour. She was covered in white powder, and flour paw prints were everywhere, including, incredibly, on the countertops(台板). I asked the dog what the hell had happened, and Indigo just looked at me with a glance that said, I cannot imagine what you are referring to. Time raced by. Our children grew up and went off to university. The mirror, which had reflected a young mum when Indigo first arrived, now showed a woman in late middle age. I had surgery for cataracts(白内障). I began to lose my hearing. We all turned grey: me, my spouse(配偶), the dog. In August 2017, I took Indigo for one last walk. She was slow and unsteady on her paws. She looked up at me sadly. You did say you’d take care of me when the time came, she said. You promised, Jenny. She died that month, a tennis ball by her side. I’d owned a succession of dogs since 1964, each one of them a witness to a particular stage of my life. But with the loss of Indigo, all that was over. The days of my dogs, I now understood, were done at last. But one morning, as I was passing the Bed ’n’ Biscuit in my car, somehow I pulled over. I could at least lay eyes upon one cute dog, a tiny sweet thing. What harm could it do? She had a soft face. Not long after, I got a call from the Bed ’n’ Biscuit, our dog daycare(日托所). One of their customers was leaving, and her dog which was the one I saw that morning, Chloe, needed a home. Given our recent loss, they asked, might our family be interested in adopting her? Paragraph 1: I told them that we were sorry but we wouldn’t be adopting any more dogs. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When Chloe entered our house, she was cautious, uncertain. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Para 1: I told them that we were sorry but we wouldn’t be adopting any more dogs. With Indigo, our baby dog passing away, our house seemed quiet as a tomb, messy and lifeless. The loss of Indigo seemed to deprive me of my love for any cute and lovely dog. What if I suffer the loss again? Out of nowhere, the dog kept flashing through my mind and I was enchanted by that tiny sweet thing. Once again, I set off to the Bed ’n’ Biscuit and adopted that tiny sweet thing named Chloe, fearful but delighted. Para 2: When Chloe entered our house, she was cautious, uncertain. Every time we hugged her, she stepped back a little, her eyes filled with anxiety as well as curiosity. With days going by, our passion drove her forward and she was willing to embrace us enthusiastically. Every time we returned home from work, happy kisses from Chloe would rain upon our faces and the house would immediately be turned into a sea of happiness. Fortunately, with Chloe’s company, our life was refreshed as if our Indigo were still here with us. 词汇激活 行为类 ①出发:set off /start off/start out ②后退:step back /retreat/draw back ③回家:return home /go back home 情绪类 ①害怕的:fearful /afraid ②高兴的:delighted /happy/pleased 【点睛】[高分句型1] With Indigo, our baby dog passing away, our house seemed quiet as a tomb, messy and lifeless.(运用了with复合结构) [高分句型2] Every time we hugged her, she stepped back a little, her eyes filled with anxiety as well as curiosity.(运用了独立主格结构) [高分句型3] Fortunately, with Chloe’s company, our life was refreshed as if our Indigo were still here with us.(运用了as if引导的虚拟语气) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 福州三中2024-2025学年高三第十九次质量检测 英语试卷 试卷满分:150分 考试时间:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。 1. B At my first lesson in Chinese calligraphy, my teacher told me plainly: “Now I will teach you how to write your name. A. reflects the creator’s spirits B. comes from creative energy C. highlights the design of strokes D. depends on continuous practice 7. What does the author intend to tell us? A. Appreciate what our culture offers. B. Find beauty from your inner self. C. A great teacher leads you to truth. D. We are the sum of what we create. C “We have memories from what happened earlier today and memories from what happened earlier last week and even from a few years ago,” says Yates, a cognitive neuroscientist at Columbia University. D In his book Ordinary Magic, Stanford psychologist Gregory Walton reveals how small, evidence-based techniques termed “wise interventions” can create far-reaching personal transformation. A. they depended more on their teachers B. their lives were improved a decade later C. they became doubtful about themselves D. their academic scores were rather higher 15 What is a suitable title for the text? A. The Principle of Ordinary Magic B. The Importance of Addressing Doubts C. The Effects of Stereotype Threat D. Ultimately, the right urban environment supports academic work while cultivating a sense of happiness in life. Finally, post-graduation opportunities are a major concern. According to a 2022 survey, getting a good job is the main reason why students go to university, but few have a clear career plan. Students should check a school’s internship, co-op, and networking offerings to ease post-graduation stress. ____20____ In short, students must clarify their expectations and understand a school’s offerings for a great student experience. A. Teaching quality drives college choice. B. Research these online or ask current students. C. A welcoming city helps both studies and daily life. D. Top-ranked schools offer the best student services. E. Thus, career preparation must factor into school choice. F. Graduate employment rates may reflect teaching quality. G. Survey data reveals students integrate campus and daily life. When Jennifer Candotti cleaned her closet, she rediscovered a flowery dress. Paragraph 1: I told them that we were sorry but we wouldn’t be adopting any more dogs __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When Chloe entered our house, she was cautious, uncertain. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
