On May 14, 2025, China sent 12 new computing satellites into space. They used a Long March rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This was a big step! It started the world’s first space computing network. It’s called the Three-body Computing Constellation(三体计算星座). The name comes from a physics problem about objects moving in space. These satellites can work right in orbit, not just send data to Earth.
Zhejiang Lab, Guoxing Aerospace, and other groups made these satellites. Each one can do 744 trillion calculations every second! Together, they form a strong network. When they circle the Earth, they can analyze(分析) data quickly. For example, they can find forest fires in seconds. They can also make 3D maps of flooded areas to help rescue teams. Before, old-style satellites took days to do such jobs.
Old satellites wasted a lot of time—70% to 90%—because of slow data sending. The new network fixes this. It works on data while in space, cutting delays from weeks to just seconds. It can help with deep-space trips, like going to Mars. By working in space, it avoids long waits for messages to reach Earth.
The satellites use laser communication, which is super fast (100Gbps!). They also use AI trained on huge data. These tools help track planes and watch for disasters. They can even study space events like gamma-ray bursts (伽马射线暴). By 2035, China plans to grow the network to 2,800 satellites. This will connect space and ground centers all over the world.
Professor Wang Jian is a top engineer leading Zhejiang Lab. He said, “Space computing power will change industries. It will help in things like disaster response and city planning.” He led the team that made the satellites’ AI systems. This project shows how new ideas can turn problems into chances. It makes a path for smarter space exploration.
1.Why can the new satellites analyze data much faster than old - style ones?
A. Because they are launched by more powerful rockets.
B. Because they use a larger number of AI systems.
C. Because they process data directly in orbit.
D. Because they have a special shape that helps with data analysis.
2.What can we know about the new satellites from the passage?
A. They can only be used to detect forest fires.
B. They use traditional communication methods.
C. Each satellite can do 744 billion calculations per second.
D. They can help rescue teams by making 3D maps of flooded areas.
3.The underlined word “delays” in Paragraph 3 probably means ______.
A. mistakes B. waiting time C. costs D. distances
4.Why does the passage mention Mars missions in Paragraph 3?
A. To show that the new satellites can help with long-distance space exploration.
B. To explain why Mars is easier to explore than Earth.
C. To prove that old satellites could already support Mars missions.
D. To compare Mars with Earth's disaster problems.
5.What is the main idea of the passage?

Huawei’s New Computer with HarmonyOS
On May 8, 2025, Huawei showed its first computer that runs on HarmonyOS in Shenzhen. This is a big and important moment for China’s technology. It shows that China can make its own high-tech products. More than 10,000 engineers and 20 research groups worked for five years to make this computer. Now, it can compete with popular operating systems like Windows and macOS in the world.
The HarmonyOS PC uses HarmonyOS 5. This is an operating system that China made all by itself. It works very fast, keeps your information safe, and helps different devices connect easily. For example, there is an AI helper named “Xiaoyi”. You can tell it what to do with your voice. It can help you make slides for a class report or quickly tell you what happened in a meeting. Also, you can use this system to control many Huawei devices at the same time without any trouble.
Keeping your data safe is a big thing for this computer. The HarmonyOS PC has a special “brain” (kernel) that China developed on its own. It also uses strong encryption (芯片级加密)in the chip to protect your information. There is a “super privacy mode”. You can press a button, and it will stop the camera and microphone from working.
Huawei wants to build a strong and long-lasting system for this computer. So, it works with universities to teach students how to make apps for HarmonyOS. Huawei also changed over 300 apps so they can work on the HarmonyOS PC. Now, 7.2 million people who make apps have joined, and they wrote 110 million lines of code. This makes a great place for new ideas in the future.
There are still hard things to deal with. Other old - time operating systems are very popular, and it’s not easy to beat them. But the HarmonyOS PC shows that China is moving from using other countries’ technology to making its own great inventions. Huawei’s CEO said, “HarmonyOS is not just an operating system. It’s the start of a smart life.”
1.What can we know about the HarmonyOS 5 from the passage?
A. It is slow but very safe for users.
B. It can only be used on Huawei computers.
C. It allows users to control different Huawei devices easily.
D. It is a system that was made with the help of foreign countries.
2.Why did Huawei work with universities?
A. To sell more HarmonyOS computers to students.
B. To train developers to create apps for HarmonyOS.
C. To borrow money from universities for research.
D. To ask university students to test the new computer.
3.Why is the "super privacy mode" important?
A. It makes the computer run faster.
B. It helps users control multiple devices at once.
C. It can protect privacy.
D. It teaches users how to write code for new apps.
4.What can we infer from Huawei’s CEO’s words?
A. HarmonyOS will only be used on computers, not other devices.
B. Huawei wants to sell HarmonyOS to other countries as a foundation.
C. The CEO thinks making an operating system is very easy.
D. Huawei plans to use HarmonyOS to create more smart products in the future.
5.What is the main idea of the passage?

On May 6, 2025, a 28-year-old Chinese snooker player named Zhao Xintong made sports history. He beat Welsh star Mark Williams 18-12 in the World Snooker Championship final. This was China’s first world title in snooker ever! Before this, British players had won for 98 years, but now that long record was broken.
Zhao’s path to success was full of stories. In 2023, he had to stop playing for 20 months because people said he did something wrong in a match. But in September 2024, he came back as an amateur. He started from the early qualifying games and played nine matches. He won 111 frames (parts of a snooker game)! In the semifinals, he even beat seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan 17-7. Zhao plays boldly, and his skills got much better. He could make long shots right 80% of the time and scored 18 century breaks ,which is the same as Ding Junhui’s record in 2016!).

A. mistakes B. waiting time C. costs D. distances

This time, they came to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s win in the Great Patriotic War. There were 102 soldiers in the team. They were about 1.87 meters tall on average and around 20 years old. People called them the “ Chinese formation.“ (中国排面) These young soldiers were full of energy and did their military moves very precisely. The people watching them cheered really loudly.
Before the event, the soldiers trained hard to deal with the problems in Red Square. The ground there has old, uneven stones because of years of hot and cold weather.
The final against 50-year-old Williams was very exciting. Williams was the oldest player to reach the final. Zhao was ahead 17-8, but Williams tried hard and won four frames one after another. Then, in the 30th frame, Zhao stayed calm and made an 87-point break to win the game. “It’s like a dream,” Zhao said. When he got the trophy, he held the Chinese flag high.
Ding Junhui, China’s snooker leader who once got second place in 2016, said, “He did what Chinese players have hoped for many years.” This win is like when Yao Ming made basketball popular in China. Experts think snooker will now become very popular in Asia too.
Zhao’s story is about getting back up after falling. Even O’Sullivan said, “He’s like Federer in snooker – and we haven’t seen all he can do yet!” This win changes snooker history. It shows that if you never give up, you can turn problems into great success.
1.What achievement did Zhao Xintong achieve in 2025?
A. He became the youngest snooker champion in history.
B. He defeated all British players in the tournament.
C. He won China's first-ever world snooker championship.
D. He set a new record for the most frames won in a final.
2.Why is Zhao Xintong’s championship victory considered historic?
A. He is the youngest player to win the title.
B. He ended a near-century-long British dominance in snooker.
