单板滑雪的历史
Visiting any ski center around the world, you would see a lot of skiers. You would also see quite a few snowboarders. These two sports did not always share space so happily. It took a while for people to accept snowboarding(单板滑雪). Today, it is one of the most popular winter sports.
Many people think that snowboarding is a recent sport. That is not true. It was developed in the United States in the 1960s as people across the country began to seek out new winter activities. They used wood or boards from barrels(桶). They would use rope(绳子) or another type of tie. This would help keep the board tied to the feet. These early fans of the sport would ride through the snow.
Many years later, others began to try the same thing. In 1965, a picture showed a skier's unique idea. He had tied two skis together. He put a rope at the front to make it easy to control the direction. He called it a snurfer. He thought of it as a snow surfboard. The idea took off.
It spread through the 1970s. More and more skiers were interested in the sport. It was hard to find a place to snowboard, however. Some places only allowed skiing. This began to change in the 1980s.
Soon after, the rest of the world began to learn about the sport. It first appeared at the Olympics in 1998. It continued to catch on with fans. There were competitions. Some players were at the top of the sport. They were able to do amazing things.
Today, snowboarding remains popular. A lot of young kids try it while older fans are still enjoying the sport, too.

中国货币演进史
China has a long tradition of using coins and it was the first country to introduce paper money. Here, we take a look at the changes of money in China.
Cowrie shells
Cowrie shells were used as money in the Shang Dynasty. Cowrie shells can be seen in the word — Bèi, which means things of great value. Cowrie shells continued to be used in some south western areas up to the Ming Dynasty.
Cash coins
It was back in the Western Zhou Dynasty that
China started using metal coins. People used different shapes of coins, like a shell, a knife, or a round thing. Then the Qin Dynasty Emperor Shihuangdi asked people to use the money in the same shape.
Silver money
The Chinese silver money was in the shape of a boat or shoe. Compared with coins, very few were produced, and they were made by hand. It appeared in the Springautumn Warring period and the use increased during the Song Dynasty. Silver and gold were long considered of similar value in China.
Chinese Paper money
Paper money came into use in the Tang Dynasty in place of the use of heavy coins or silver money. People found they didn't have difficulty carrying and using it anymore. Marco Polo wrote about the use of paper money in his book, which led to the use of paper money in Europe. Nowadays, we use renminbi, which was first used in December 1948. Now renminbi is growing to be a kind of money used worldwide.
No matter what kinds of money they are, behind them lies the rich culture of China.
