(参观几十个艺术博物馆和文化中心)”和Quebec City部分第一段“It is one of the most charming places to see in Canada because of art and cultural scenes. 故选A项。 Here is the perfect list of the great places that are worthy of being visited in Canada on your trip. But Duane Hansen and his beautiful pumpkin, which he named Berta, proved them all wrong. Like Cinderella’s fairy godmother, this Nebraska man proved that you really can turn a pumpkin into a functional vehicle — in this case, a seaworthy vessel(船). Yes, you read that right. Hansen wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday by hollowing out his prized 846-pound pumpkin and sailing down the Missouri River inside it. Not only did Hansen enjoy a pumpkin sail on his special day, but his 38-mile journey also landed him a world record! In case you wondered, the previous world record for the longest sail in a pumpkin was 25 miles, set by a North Dakota man in 2018. It wasn’t an easy journey. Growing a pumpkin big enough to use as a boat is already a challenge. Then, there was his chosen waterway. The city of Bellevue, Nebraska, posted a photogragh of Hansen on the water that offers a reminder of just how big the Missouri River is. “He has always said that you can do anything you want and I’m just so proud,” Hansen’s daughter Morgan Buchholz said. Hansen reportedly spent nearly a decade trying to grow a pumpkin big enough to work as a sailing vessel. He was inspired to begin his mission after meeting a woman who had previously won “the Biggest Pumpkin Competition”. He asked her many questions about her experience. As for his pumpkin-sailing future, “I’m done with this.” Hansen said that the voyage made his knees ache. The wake (尾流) from boats was rough, and when they passed, he said he had to stop everything and just hang on. “If somebody breaks this record, I will, like, bow down to them because they are tough,” he said. 4. Why did Hansen go on a pumpkin journey? A. To observe his birthday. B. To show his prized pumpkin. C. To break a world record. D. To prove pumpkin could be a vessel. 5. What did Hansen do to make his journey possible? A. He chose a calm waterway. B. He talked with the previous record holder. C. He convinced his family to support his plan. D. He worked a long time to grow the pumpkin. 6. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. His knees got seriously injured in the sailing. B. His vessel turned over in the wake from boats. C. Hansen will respect whoever breaks his record. D. Hansen will continue the pumpkin-sailing in future. 7. What does Hansen’s story tell us? A. It is never too old to learn. B. Time and tide wait for no man. C. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. D. Fear always springs from ignorance 【答案】4. A 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第三段的“Hansen wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday by hollowing out his prized 846-pound pumpkin and sailing down the Missouri River inside it.( 汉森为了庆祝他的60岁生日,他掏空了他珍贵的846磅重的南瓜,然后沿着密苏里河流而下。)” 故选A。 根据第四段“It wasn’t an easy journey. Growing a pumpkin big enough to use as a boat is already a challenge. ( 这不是一段轻松的旅程。培育一个大到可以用作船的南瓜已经是一个挑战。)”和倒数第二段的“Hansen reportedly spent nearly a decade trying to grow a pumpkin big enough to work as a sailing vessel.( 据报道,汉森花了近十年的时间,试图种植一个足够大的南瓜,以作为一艘帆船。)” 根据最后一段的“‘If somebody breaks this record, I will, like, bow down to them because they are tough,’he said.(他说:“如果有人打破了这个记录,我愿意向他们低头,因为他们很坚强。”)” 根据第一段“They said it couldn’t be done. They said he was crazy. They said he would never make it.(他们说这是不可能的。他们说他疯了。他们说他不会成功的。)”,第二段“But Duane Hansen and his beautiful pumpkin, which he named Berta, proved them all wrong. Like Cinderella’s fairy godmother, this Nebraska man proved that you really can turn a pumpkin into a functional vehicle — in this case, a seaworthy vessel(船).(但杜安·汉森和他的漂亮南瓜——他给它起名为波塔——证明了他们都错了。就像灰姑娘的仙女教母一样,这位内布拉斯加州的男子证明了你真的可以把南瓜变成一种实用的交通工具——在这种情况下,一艘适航的船只。)”,第四段“It wasn’t an easy journey. Growing a pumpkin big enough to use as a boat is already a challenge. (这不是一段轻松的旅程。培育一个大到可以用作船的南瓜已经是一个挑战。)”以及下文内容可知,汉森用南瓜作为工具完成了他的旅行,完成别人认为不可能的事情,因此推断他的故事告诉我们“有志者,事竟成”。故选C。 C By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat? A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it’s not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body. Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene, the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohio State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.” A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people’s health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways. Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook. What cooked with the vegetables can also be important? When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better — a little salt — can make the food taste better. 8. What does the writer mainly want to tell us? A Eating vegetables is good for us. B. People should eat more vegetables. C. How much vegetables one should eat. D. The way people eat vegetables is important. 9. What will be the result if people eat the raw vegetables for a long time? A. Have heart disease. B. Hate eating tomatoes. C. Be in need of lycopene. D. Have the eyes problems. 10. The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________. A. the place where the vegetables are grown B. the way how the vegetables are stored C. the way how the vegetables are prepared D. the price at which the vegetable are sold 11. What can we know from the last paragraph? A. It’s better to cook vegetables with fat. B. It’s better to cook the vegetables without salt. C. The fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables. D. The more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat. D 9. C 10. D 11. 通读全文,尤其第一段“By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat? A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it’s not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body. 根据第二段“The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene, the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. (研究人员发现,198名吃生食的德国人缺乏番茄红素,这种物质存在于西红柿和其他红色蔬菜中。)”可知,长期吃生蔬菜会导致人体缺乏番茄红素,故选C。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people’s health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways. (在蔬菜上餐桌之前,有很多因素决定了它们对人们健康的益处,包括它们在购买前的种植和储存地点和方式。没有一种烹饪方法是最好的。如果烹饪方法不同,有些营养物质很容易在烹饪过程中流失。)”可知,蔬菜的种植地点、储存方式和烹饪方式都会影响蔬菜对人体的益处,而蔬菜的售价与蔬菜对人体的益处无关,故选D。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. (当蔬菜与脂肪一起烹饪时,食客可以获得更多的营养。脂肪也可以使蔬菜的味道更好,这意味着人们会吃更多的蔬菜。)”可知,用脂肪烹饪蔬菜更好,因为这样食客能获得更多营养,而且蔬菜味道也更好,人们会吃更多蔬菜,故选A。 D Educators worry about students turning to ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that can produce remarkably clear answers to complex questions, to help them complete assignments. One proposed solution is to ban it in writing. But I am telling my students that they are free to use ChatGPT in their writing assignments. To remain competitive throughout their careers, students need to learn how to prompt ChatGPT to produce worthwhile output. They need to learn to compose well-organized essays involving a mix of AI-generated text and traditional writing. As professionals working into the 2060s and beyond, they will need to learn how to enhance human creativity with AI. Many students will be unable to resist the temptation (诱惑) to seek AI assistance with their writing. And how would an educational institution enforce a ChatGPT ban? While there are tools aimed at detecting text produced by AI, future versions of AI will get better at matching human writing — including to the point of imitating (模仿) the style of a particular person who is using it. In the resulting arms race, AI writing tools will always be one step ahead of the tools to detect AI-generated text. Writing a good essay from scratch promotes focused disciplined thinking. Writing is a craft worthy of enormous respect, one which few of us ever master. But most students don’t seek to become professional writers. Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to communicate, explain, convince, memorialize, request and persuade. When I was a middle and high school student in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I was told that professional success required good “penmanship” and the ability to perform long division by hand. By the time I entered the professional workforce in the late1980s, technology advances had left those skills outdated. Education culture can be very slow to change, as evidenced by the fact that many schools today still force children to learn long division — a task they will never have to perform anywhere outside school. With AI writing, educators should stay ahead of the technology curve, as opposed to lagging decades behind it. 12. Why does the author permit his students to use ChatGPT in writing? A. To produce good writing as a writer. B. To compete well in their future life. C. To be creative professionals in the 2060s. D. To improve the quality of traditional writing. 13. What can we infer from the third paragraph? A. Banning AI effectively isn’t practical. B. Using ChatGPT may result in the arms race. C. Copying the style of human is AI’s aim. D. Resisting AI needs assistance from students. 14. What does writing mean for most students according to the author? A. It is a skill difficult to master. B. It is a course to focus on thinking. C. It is a base to become professional writers. D. It is a way to prepare for their future careers. 15. What does the author prove by mentioning long division by hand? A. Students learn too many useless skills. B. Educators should go ahead of technology. C. AI writing helps students succeed professionally. D. Education culture changes slowly with the development of technology. B 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段“As professionals working into the 2060s and beyond, they will need to learn how to enhance human creativity with AI. (作为工作到21世纪60年代及以后的专业人士,他们将需要学习如何利用人工智能提高人类的创造力。)”可知,作者允许他的学生在写作中使用ChatGPT是为了在未来的生活中有竞争力。故选B。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“While there are tools aimed at detecting text produced by AI, future versions of AI will get better at matching human writing — including to the point of imitating (模仿) the style of a particular person who is using it. In the resulting arms race, AI writing tools will always be one step ahead of the tools to detect AI-generated text. (虽然有一些工具旨在检测人工智能生成的文本,但未来版本的人工智能将在匹配人类写作方面做得更好——包括模仿使用它的特定人员的风格。在最终的军备竞赛中,人工智能写作工具将永远领先于检测人工智能生成文本的工具。)”可知,有效地禁止AI是不现实的。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to communicate, explain, convince, memorialize, request and persuade. (相反,他们正在为职业生涯做准备,他们将通过写作来沟通、解释、说服、纪念、请求和说服。)”可知,根据作者的观点,写作对大多数学生意味着是为他们未来的职业生涯做准备的一种方式。故选D。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Education culture can be very slow to change, as evidenced by the fact that many schools today still force children to learn long division — a task they will never have to perform anywhere outside school. With AI writing, educators should stay ahead of the technology curve, as opposed to lagging decades behind it. Low-effort things you can do to live sustainably You might think you need to change a lot of your daily habits to live sustainably but, in fact, becoming more eco-friendly is much easier than it might seem. Below are some easy steps towards becoming more sustainable. Shop at farmer markets. Getting your daily fruit and vegetables from a local farmer market is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint while eating healthily. It cuts out lengthy stays of the products in refrigerated storage and up to thousands of miles of fossil-fueled transportation. ____16____ Practice meatless Mondays. Global meat production is a big contributor to greenhouse gasses. ____17____ It isn’t necessary either. Many people reducing their meat consumption by a small amount would still have a great impact. According to a study, you could reduce your carbon footprint by as much as 8 pounds each week just by practicing meatless Mondays only. Dispose of unused medications properly. Flushing (冲) unused medications down the drain (下水道) can pollute water supplies affecting everything downstream. You shouldn’t throw medications away either as they can be dangerous for others to find. ____18____ Leftover medications can be chemically dealt with and disposed of in a safe and secure way there. ____19____ It is easy to understand that buying something used is more environmentally friendly than buying something new and clothes are no exception. ____20____ According to the United Nations, the fashion industry is responsible for 2% - 8% of global carbon emissions (排放量). Buying something used keeps things out of landfills and reduces demand for new items. A. Shop second-hand. B. Think twice before shopping. C. A meatless diet can help prevent disease. D. The best option is to take them to a collection site. E. It is not practical to expect everyone to go vegetarian, F. Additionally, less plastic in packaging reduces plastic waste. G. The fast-fashion industry consumes considerable resources each year. F 17. E 18. D 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Getting your daily fruit and vegetables from a local farmer market is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint while eating healthily. It cuts out lengthy stays of the products in refrigerated storage and up to thousands of miles of fossil-fueled transportation.(从当地农贸市场购买日常水果和蔬菜是一种既能减少碳足迹又能吃得健康的简单方法。 【17题详解】 空前“Global meat production is a big contributor to greenhouse gasses.(全球肉类生产是温室气体的一大排放源。)”说明了生产肉会产生温室气体,空后“Many people reducing their meat consumption by a small amount would still have a great impact.(许多人减少少量的肉类消费仍然会产生很大的影响。)” 【18题详解】 空前“Flushing (冲) unused medications down the drain (下水道) can pollute water supplies affecting everything downstream. You shouldn’t throw medications away either as they can be dangerous for others to find.(将未使用的药物冲入下水道会污染供水,影响下游的一切。你也不应该把药物扔掉,因为别人发现它们可能很危险。)”说明不应该把未使用的药扔掉,空后“Leftover medications can be chemically dealt with and disposed of in a safe and secure way there.(剩下的药物可以在那里以安全可靠的方式进行化学处理和处置。)”提到了一个地方,空格处应该说要在某个地方放这些未使用的药,D选项“The best option is to take them to a collection site.(最好的选择是把它们带到一个收集点。)” 【19题详解】 空格处是本段小标题,由空后的“It is easy to understand that buying something used is more environmentally friendly than buying something new and clothes are no exception.(很容易理解,买旧的东西比买新的东西更环保,衣服也不例外。)” 【20题详解】 空前“It is easy to understand that buying something used is more environmentally friendly than buying something new and clothes are no exception.(很容易理解,买旧的东西比买新的东西更环保,衣服也不例外。)”说明买二手衣服是更环保的,空后“According to the United Nations, the fashion industry is responsible for 2% - 8% of global carbon emissions (排放量).(据联合国统计,时尚产业的碳排放量占全球的2% - 8%。)” Two weeks earlier, my husband, Russ, had got an early-morning call telling us to evacuate immediately. These unhealthy habits not only weaken our physical health but also have a negative impact on our study efficiency. But a shift in educational policies (政策), with an emphasis on academics, had reduced my choir to a mere 32 students. My lead singers had graduated or been forced to drop music classes, leaving me with inexperienced kids who couldn’t read music and could sing only a simple melody (曲子). This year’s singing contest would be held in seven months. Compared to other school choirs, the Madison choir with 75 members, King School with 125 students and etc., ours was little in size. One day, a student asked eagerly, “What will we be singing for contest this year?” I feared this moment. “Maybe we’ll skip the contest,” I suggested. “No! We can make it!” the kids screamed. “I’ll have to think about it,” I said, hoping their enthusiasm would die off soon. But that didn’t happen. Every day they begged and insisted. However, I couldn’t tell them they weren’t good enough as I had to protect their self-esteem (自尊). My efforts to discourage their eagerness, by showing them a difficult piece of music from the contest list, simply ended with, “It’s okay, Mrs. Pliszka, we’ll get it.” I struggled to make a decision. If I destroyed their hope, would I destroy their spirit? I wasn’t afraid of hard work, and I enjoyed a challenge. But I wasn’t a miracle (奇迹) worker. So I considered this dilemma. Finally, one morning I stomped into class. “From now on, be in your seats with your music folders on the desk when the bell rings, and sit at attention, ready for warm-ups the instant I’m ready to begin. When I’m working with one section, there will be no talking from the others. You will listen, and you will learn. You will work harder. If all these rules are obeyed, we will be entering the contest. To achieve our big dream, …” The rest of my sentence was lost in shouts of delight and applause. I was certain they would fail to keep this promise, and no one would have to be embarrassed. As the weeks progressed, the kids remained focused. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready to take on the world! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文1 As the weeks progressed, the kids remained focused. They followed the rules with no complaints and seemed to thrive on the discipline demanded of them. Each morning they sat attention, ready for warm-ups, learned, practiced, rehearsed and went over and over the songs to be sung in the contest. I was amazed at the driving force that kept pushing them on. The courage they had shown from day one overwhelmed me, changing something within myself. No more did I hesitate, but make every effort to teach them. With the passage of time, the kids were making steady and remarkable improvements, which was beyond my expectations. (90w) When the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready to take on the world! They mounted the stairs, smiles of confidence spreading on their faces. Their singing sounded good. The entire audience broke into loud applause the instant they finished their songs. My heart swelled with pride for this little group. After what seemed a century, the results were posted. There was our name at the very top! All around kids were squealing and embracing. Warm tears wet my cheeks. And I was surrounded by kids who had a dream—kids who refused to give up—kids who taught me to never doubt the possibility of success for any student or any class ever again. D. Fear always springs from ignorance C By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. A. Eating vegetables is good for us. D Educators worry about students turning to ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that can produce remarkably clear answers to complex questions, to help them complete assignments. Writing a good essay from scratch promotes focused, disciplined thinking. A To produce good writing as a writer. Low-effort things you can do to live sustainably You might think you need to change a lot of your daily habits to live sustainably but, in fact, becoming more eco-friendly is much easier than it might seem. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
