There are also plenty of art and music classes for more creative learners.Read the
developer's privacy policy for details on how your kid's information is collected,
used and shared, and any choice you may have in the matter, and this privacy policy

What is it about?
Skillshare has a large database of online lessons taught by industry experts.
Kids can search for a class by topic or by entering key words. Each class contains a
series of video lessons that are taught as a lecture. Some classes have only a few
lessons, while others have 10 or more.In fact, one guitar class has more than 100
lessons. Many classes include projects, and most end with a brief Final Thoughts
lesson to sum up the class content. There's a review section where users can leave
advice.Kids can watch the lessons within that class directly from the app. They can
also save classes to watch later, and any class they begin is automatically saved to a
watch list. Many classes are offered in the free version of the app,and a paid version
gives users access to a much more extensive class list-more than 28,000 lessons.
Is it any good?
All the teachers in the app are passionate about their work,so it's an excellent
way to foster the same passion in your kids,as long as there is a genuine interest in

Around 30 years ago, while collecting baked goods from a grocery store in Salt
Lake City for a local food bank,Shauna Devenport noticed the waste of hundreds of
pieces of bread that were only a day or two past their expiration date. She then
requested the bread that would otherwise be thrown away, placing them on her front
porch()and inviting anyone in need to take as much as they required.
Devenport repeated this process and observed the response:"I'd put it out and
an hour or so later,it was gone...People would show up from all over the city.I saw
there was a real need out there."She then approached her neighbors and asked them to
assist her in collecting the store's bread every day,and around twelve agreed to help.
As reported in a recent US Department of Agriculture study, about 40%of the
US food supply is wasted yearly.Besides expired bread,a variety of food items were
being thrown away,such as bad-looking produce,canned goods,and even muscle-
building drinks.Devenport explained that grocery stores often refuse to sell items
that are beyond their "sell-by"dates,even though they may still be safe to eat.
Devenport believes in the importance of minimizing waste and she added,"I've never
heard of anyone getting sick from something they've taken from the porch."

"The failure to play is now a serious issue and it calls for action for change,"
says Sir Ken Robinson,a leading expert in education, creativity and human development.
This is the driving force behind Outdoor Classroom Day-a global teacher-led
campaign(运动,话s动),supported by Dirt is Good,a company producing daily
chemical products.
Outdoor Classroom Day,taking place on 17th May and 1st November, will see
schools around the world exchange the inside for the outside and take learning into

the playground and beyond to make playtime a key part of the school day. This might
involve using natural objects like stones to do sums,or going on an insect hunt to
encourage curiosity.By now,Outdoor Classroom Day has grown from a grass-roots
movement to a global campaign that is expected to benefit five million children and
over 40,000 schools from all around the world.
This is helping to change the trend(趋势,趋向)that sees many schools selling
up or building in their playgrounds and cutting back on playtime to make more room
for academic studies, while at home children's lives are increasingly filled with
organized activities intended to help them learn.Today globally 61%of parents
surveyed in the Dirt is Good Qualitative Study said that children don't know how to
play without using technology.
Outdoor Classroom Day is making playing time happen, with 22%of
participating schools having increased their playtime since joining the campaign.93%
of teachers surveyed saw improvements in children's creativity after playing outside,
and 97%believe that time outdoors is necessary for children to reach their full
potential.
Scientific studies show that real play-the active,physical,self-directed play-
is essential for children to develop key life skills that are not taught elsewhere.Few
would question the value of developing creativity, leadership, resourcefulness, and
curiosity.
28.What do children do on Outdoor Classroom Day?
A.Have a day off and go playing somewhere.
B.Learn and play by using natural things outside.
C.Play on their own without the teachers'guidance.
D.Have P.E.classes in the playgrounds.
29.Why do children spend less time outdoors?
A.Adults ignore the importance of playtime.
B.Parents prefer to teach their children at home.
C.Technology helps children learn better at home.
D.Schools stop providing playgrounds.
30.What's the school teachers'attitude towards the campaign?
A.Cold.
B.Enthusiastic.
C.Supportive.
D.Opposed.
31.What's the purpose of the passage?
A.To advertise a product.
B.To entertain the public.
C.To persuade students to play.
D.To introduce an activity.

Bad news sells. If it bleeds(),it leads. No news is good news, and good
news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the
morning papers. But now that information is being spread and monitored in different
ways, researchers are discovering new rules.By tracking people's e-mails and online
posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than serious
accidents and sob stories.
"The'if it bleeds'rule works for the mass media,"says Jonah Berger,a scholar
at the University of Pennsylvania."They want your eyeballs and don't care how
you're feeling. But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more
how they react. You don't want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.
Researchers analyzing word-of-mouth communication-e-mails,Web posts and
reviews,face-to-face conversations-found that it tended to be more positive than
negative, but that didn't necessarily mean people preferred positive news. Was
positive news shared more often simply because people experienced more good things
than bad things? To test for that possibility,Dr.Berger looked at how people spread
a particular set of news stories:thousands of articles on The New York Times'
website.He and a colleague analyzed the"most emailed"list for six months.One of
his first findings was that articles in the science section were much more likely to
make the list than non-science articles. He found that science amazed readers and
made them want to share this positive feeling with others.
Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny,or that
inspired negative feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them only
sad. They needed to be aroused one way or the other, and they preferred good to
bad.The more positive an article was,the more likely it was to be shared,as Dr.
Berger explains in his new book,Contagious:Why Things Catch On.
32.How does the author bring out the new rules of the media?
A.By making a comparison.
B.By presenting an argument.
C.By introducing the background.
D.By giving a definition.
33.To avoid becoming a "Debbie Downer",people may be
A.eager for frequent eye contact
B.particular about their physical contact
C.careful about others'response
D.attentive to their own story-making
34.According to Paragraph 3,which article might be the most welcome among readers?
A.A solution to poverty.
B.An unemployed man's life.
C.A historical short story.
D.A technological breakthrough.

I struggled to make a decision. If I destroyed their hope, would I destroy their spirit? On the other hand, if we decided to enter Class A, would they be hurt by the judges' comments? Finally one morning, I walked into the classroom. "Kids!" I demanded. "We are entering the contest in Class A……" The rest of my sentence was lost in screams of delight and applause. As the weeks progressed, each morning the kids practiced singing, worked on reading music, learned musical terms, and practiced rhythms.
When the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready to face up to the world! As my choir went on stage, I mouthed, "Smile!" They looked confident. I took a deep breath, and we began. They performed masterfully. Two very long hours later, the results were posted. I stood frozen, staring at the list in disbelief: a first place award with the highest marks of all. All kids were screaming and embracing. Warm tears wet my cheeks. I was surrounded by kids who had a dream — kids who refused to give up — kids who taught me to never doubt the possibility of success for any students or any classes ever again.

(Text 1)
W: Do you have any plans tonight?
M: I was going to play football, but it looks like it's going to rain. I consider going to the cinema.
W: Why don't you go to the music hall? I thought you had two tickets for the pop concert.
M: But that's next week.
(Text 2)
W: How do you like it, sir?
M: It's a really nice coat and it fits me very well. But 150 dollars is too expensive.
W: Sir, it's on sale today, 40% off the price.
M: That's nice. I will take it.
(Text 3)
W: Excuse me, I'd like a cup of Americano.
M: OK. You can read the books and magazines on that shelf before the coffee is served, madam.
W: That's good.
(Text 4)
W: Hmm... lovely! Are you making a fruit cake?
M: I'm adding the dried fruit to the bread that I'm baking. If you want cake, there's a piece left in the fridge.
W: That's OK. Shall I make a fruit salad?
M: Great!
(Text 5)
M: It seems that many people overlook their health nowadays.
W: Perhaps that's because they've been busy with their work.
M: That's right. So I think they should do regular check-ups.
W: I agree. And their family should take action.
(Text 6)
W: Mike, my mouse doesn't do what I want it to do. Can you take a look at it?
M: Let's see. Hmm. I think it's either a problem with your mouse or something's wrong with the system. How long have you had it?
W: Just a couple of months. I was given this one when John, the repairman, replaced my monitor. What do you think I should do?
M: Call Tom at 424. I think he's more professional than John.
W: Got it.
(Text 7)
W: Hi, James! It's great to see you again! How's it going?
M: Fine! I'm living in Boston, attending Harvard University.
W: Wow, so you' re still at university?
M: Yeah, I'm doing my Ph.D. It's taking ages to finish and there is far too much to learn from the professors; I feel like I'm stuck in a repetitive routine and there is a lack of freshness. How about you?
W: Well, I'm a sales manager at an American company. It's pretty exciting.
M: I wish I were working like you already.
(Text 8)
W: Did you hear that Friday is Mr. Smith's last day? He's leaving the company and taking a global trip.
M: Really? Why? He's one of the most successful lawyers in the city. He has a bright future here.
W: Well, I guess he's looking for a change. Anyway, we' re holding an office party on his last day to say goodbye and wish him good luck. It will be in the break room at 4 p. m.
M: I'll be finishing a meeting at that time, so I might be a little late, but I'll be there.
(Text 9)
M: Dear, there are two days left until Saturday' s party, so we need to start getting ready.
W: Oh, no. I thought today was Tuesday. So how many people are coming?
M: About ten or twelve, I think, but maybe two more. So we need to have plenty of food — enough to feed up to fifteen people.
W: OK. Let's write down what we need. We'll need to buy some meat. We can buy two pieces of chicken for each person. And let's get several burgers.
M: Isn't that too much chicken? Remember, Tom and Helena don't eat any meat.
W: Do they eat fish?
M: Yes, I think they do sometimes.
W: OK, one piece of chicken per person except them. And we'll buy some fish as well. Plus, we can need to buy a few potatoes, tomatoes and onions.
M: OK. And I want to buy some chocolate biscuits.
W: Why? They' re not very healthy. We can buy some apples instead.
M: But I don't think many of our guests will like your choice.
W: Well, you always win.
(Text 10)
W: Hello, my name's Grace and I'd like to tell you all about a trip to New Zealand, which has two main islands — the North Island and the South Island. I went to the latter. There are many ways to tour it—you can hire a car to drive, or take a boat trip like most people, but I went on what's known as the green bus. We started in Nelson, in the northwest of the island. We then headed off down the west coast stopping at various places, and finally arrived at Christchurch on the opposite coast, which is the second largest city in New Zealand. I also went on a day tour to Kaikoura, which is 150 kilometers north of Christchurch. It is famous for its sea life and is also one of the most exciting places in the world to see ocean birds.
