(24-25高一下·广西·期中)In our fast-paced world, music often serves as both a source of joy and stress. While it can uplift our spirits and provide comfort, it can also become overwhelming (令人不知所措的), especially when deadlines approach or pressures strengthen. That is music stress, a feeling of nervousness, worry, or unease that can come from listening to or playing music.
Music stress can appear in different signs, ranging from physical reactions, such as headaches, to mental disturbances, such as anxiety and depression. In some ways, music stress is similar to more general experiences of stress. For example, both can cause effects such as headaches, and difficulty in concentrating.
However, music stress is caused by a more specific form of factor-music, which tends to produce very specific types of reactions. For example, certain types of music can stir up an emotional response, such as sadness. This can lead to increased stress levels. Similarly, certain kinds of noise, like extremely loud or dissonant (刺耳的) sounds, can cause people to become overwhelmed. While this can be helpful for some purposes, such as creating a sense of tension in film, in some cases, it can be difficult to handle and might even contribute to heightened stress levels.
In addition, music stress can also result from the psychological (心理的) context in which the music is heard or played. If someone is listening to music as a way to evade his or her current anxiety or panic, the music can create a feeling of disappointment or stress when it can not provide the expected effect or when they don’t listen mindfully.
Understanding how music stress comes can help individuals better manage their stress levels. In general, an individual’s experience of music stress tends to depend on his or her personal preferences and psychological state of being at the time. If you have already been feeling stressed, it may be better to take a break from music entirely.

(24-25高一下·福建·期中)Music is not just a set of sounds and rhythms. Its influence on the brain is much deeper than any other human experience. Keep on reading to know all about the amazing power of music.
A recent study suggests that preterm (早产的) babies appear to experience less pain and feed more when listening to music. A team of experts led by Dr. Manoj Kumar of University of Alberta, Canada, found that music had a beneficial effect on reducing pain for preterm babies experiencing painful medical tests. It also appeared to benefit full-term babies during operations.
Many people experiencing brain damage have speech and movement-related problems. Music can help them recover from brain injuries. As a different and effective treatment, doctors often advise such patients to listen to good music to improve the parts of the brain responsible for these two functions. When people with neurological (神经系统的) disorders hear a musical beat, it helps them to regain a balanced walk.
Though music cannot make deafness disappear, it can really stave off the loss of hearing. There was an experiment involving 163 people where 74 were musicians. Participants were asked to pass some listening tests. Musicians heard the sounds better than non-musicians, and this difference got clearer with age. This means that a 70-year-old musician hears better than a 50-year-old non-musician, even in a noisy environment.
Besides, music mends a broken heart. It is not about thrown-away love, but about a heart attack. The matter is that music can help people recover from a heart attack or a heart operation by reducing blood pressure, slowing down the heartbeat rate, and reducing anxiety. Listening to the quality music produces positive emotions, improves the movement of blood, and expands blood vessels, thus, promoting quick recovery of the whole cardiovascular (心血管的) system.
1.How does music affect preterm babies?
A.It helps reduce their pain. B.It helps develop their potential in music.
C.It helps improve their hearing systems. D.It helps repair their cardiovascular systems.
2.What does the underlined phrase “ stave off” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Lead to. B.Increase.
C.Prevent. D.Break into.
3.Why can music mend a broken heart?
A.It can help patients recover in a slow way.
B.It helps make a person feel optimistic all the time.
C.It has a positive effect on human body systems’ work.
D.It can help people prevent diseases caused by anxiety.
4.What may be the best title for text?
A.Who can benefit from music. B.The best time to listen to music.
C.The way to choose quality music. D.How music affects our mind and body.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.C 4.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了音乐对大脑、身体等方面的积极影响。

3.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The matter is that music can help people recover from a heart attack or a heart operation by reducing blood pressure, slowing down the heartbeat rate, and reducing anxiety. Listening to the quality music produces positive emotions, improves the movement of blood, and expands blood vessels, thus, promoting quick recovery of the whole cardiovascular (心血管的) system.(问题是,音乐可以通过降低血压、减慢心率和减轻焦虑来帮助人们从心脏病发作或心脏手术中恢复过来。聆听高品质的音乐能产生积极的情绪,促进血液循环,并扩张血管,从而有助于整个心血管系统迅速恢复健康。)”可知,音乐能帮助心脏病患者康复是因为它对人体系统的工作有积极的影响。故选C。
4.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“Music is not just a set of sounds and rhythms. Its influence on the brain is much deeper than any other human experience.(音乐不仅仅是一系列的声音和节奏。它对大脑的影响比任何其他人类体验都要深刻得多)”以及全文可知,文章主要讲述了音乐对大脑和身体的深远影响,包括对早产儿、脑损伤患者、听力和心脏健康的益处。可知,D选项“音乐如何影响我们的身心”最符合文章标题。故选D。
(24-25高一下·福建福州·期中)Grammy Awards don’t only go to the people who produce and perform songs. This year the 2024 Music Educator Award went to Annie Ray, a music teacher at a high school in Virginia, for her efforts to make music accessible to all students, particularly those with disabilities. However, in the award ceremony, she gave the credit to her students.
Inspired mostly by the diversity of the Annandale community including over 60 countries, Ray created an orchestra for students with severe intellectual (智力的) and developmental disabilities. The orchestra is about much more than just making music. Ray says the program gives students a chance to develop their collaboration skills, make mistakes and learn the art of refining something. And they teach her a lot in return — more than she could ever teach them.
She says her students completely changed her educational philosophy and approach. “I believe they have a really powerful message to share with everyone, and especially with how we approach music education and what that looks like,” she added.
Ray says the success was especially meaningful because not many people understand what exactly music educators do in the classroom or how much their work matters. While her administration is supportive, another challenge is that her school “desperately” needs new instruments. Ray says she will use some of her grant money to buy more.
Ray plans to put some of the money towards an ongoing scholarship for students who want to pursue music when they graduate. She knows of several who want to go into music education themselves, which she finds especially rewarding.
“It is a hard profession, but it’s one that is really, deeply personal and satisfying,” Ray said. “And there’s nothing else like it.”
1.Why did Ray win the 2024 Music Educator Award?
A.Because of her pioneering teaching philosophy.
B.Because of her great musical talent.
C.Because of her outstanding education contribution.
D.Because of her extraordinary personal style.
2.What is the orchestra eager for?
A.New instruments. B.Support from school.
C.Students’ participation. D.Money from the government.
3.Which of the following is satisfying to Ray?
A.More students majoring in music. B.More graduates into teaching music.
C.More awards for music educators. D.More parents joining the orchestra.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B

(24-25高一下·福建三明·期中)When concert pianist Paul Barton moved to Thailand, little could he have expected where life would take him. Instead of performing for classical music lovers on stage, Barton’s audience are old and injured elephants. He spends his time playing everything from Bach to Beethoven to these huge animals.
The idea first came to Barton while he made a YouTube video in Thailand. It was there that the elephant-lover found out about Elephants World. This sanctuary (保护区) cares for old, injured and disabled elephants. After contacting the manager, Barton decided to give his first concert. What happened was something he would never forget. “The first time I played the piano at Elephants World, a blind elephant called Plara was having his breakfast. But when he heard the music, he suddenly stopped eating his food and stayed still all through the music. Plara was not the only one,” shares Barton.
The piano “concerts” are held in the open. Elephants are not forced to listen. In fact, Barton notes that the music itself appears to attract them, as many come closer for a listen. Some move slowly to the song. Some hold their trunk (象鼻) in their mouth as they listen, and others even put their trunk on the piano and begin to sing along.
For Barton, this work is part of an effort to attend to these huge animals. Their stress and pain will disappear as they listen to music. “All I can think of is that we work to make the lives of elephants better in the ways we can,” explains Barton. “Elephants are emotional animals. There’s a special connection between us. We’re communicating with each other in a different language.”
Barton has posted videos of these amazing moments to his YouTube, which has over 300,000 followers. Each of the videos is a moving look at how music influences these animals. Barton’s work is a bridge that brings together humans and animals.

3.Why does Barton carry out such an activity at Elephants World?
A.To give comfort to the elephants suffering.
B.To call for material support for the organization.
C.To attract more people to his YouTube videos.
D.To show elephants can understand humans through music.
4.How does the author find Barton’s “concerts”?
A.Boring. B.Shocking. C.Worrying. D.Beneficial

(24-25高一下·陕西咸阳·期中)Learning to play a musical instrument can be more than just an enjoyable hobby. Whether it’s playing the piano, taking some guitar lessons, joining your school band, or starting a rock group, playing a musical instrument may help improve your mind. If people wonder what you’re up to, tell them you’re doing something important. You may be making yourself a little bit smarter.
A new study shows that young children who learn to sing or play a musical instrument might have a slight advantage over those who don’t take music lessons.
The study focused on 132 first graders in Canada. The researchers, from the University of Toronto at Mississauga, randomly (随机) put the students into three groups. One group took weekly lessons with instruments, such as violin and piano. The second group took singing lessons. The third group went to drama class.
All the participants (参与者) took IQ tests at the beginning and at the end of the first grade. Overall, average scores went up for all groups. But kids who took piano or violin lessons scored higher marks. Their IQ scores went up 7.0 points on average, compared with 4.3 points for kids in the other two groups.
The difference may seem small, and the music students probably won’t end up getting higher grades or having greater success later in life. Even so, the researchers believe the results are still meaningful. Playing a musical instrument requires kids to pay more attention and memorize things. The process of reading music and mastering finger placement is connected with fine motor skills and even better hand eye coordination (协调) .These types of experiences may have positive effects on the developing brains of young people
So, why not pick up an instrument like a guitar or violin? It’s a great way to improve yourself and bring more music into the world. After all, who wouldn’t want to make the world sound better?
1.What happened to the first group of students at the end of the first grade?
A.They disliked other after-school activities. B.They fell in love with musical instruments.
C.They scored higher marks in the music test. D.They had a bigger increase in their IQ scores.
2.What can we infer from paragraph 5?
A.The music students are sure to achieve success.
B.It is a must for students to practice coordination.
C.Playing music is a powerful tool for brain development.
D.The result of the experiment makes little sense in real life.
3.What is the author’s opinion about picking up a musical instrument?
A.It is worthwhile. B.It shows one’s character.
C.It takes much time. D.It is popular on campus
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.Singing lessons. B.A scientific study.
C.College students. D.A training program
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A 4.B
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。多伦多大学的一项研究表明演奏乐器有益于学生的心智发展。
1.细节理解题。根据第四段“All the participants (参与者) took IQ tests at the beginning and at the end of the first grade. Overall, average scores went up for all groups. But kids who took piano or violin lessons scored higher marks. Their IQ scores went up 7.0 points on average, compared with 4.3 points for kids in the other two groups.(所有参与者在一年级开始和结束时都参加了智商测试。总体而言,所有组的平均分数都有所提高。但是上钢琴或小提琴课的孩子得分更高。他们的智商分数平均提高了7.0分,而其他两组孩子的智商分数平均提高了4.3 分。)”可知,第一组(上乐器课的组)的学生在一年级结束时,他们的智商分数有更大的提升。故选D。
2.推理判断题。根据第五段“Even so, the researchers believe the results are still meaningful. Playing a musical instrument requires kids to pay more attention and memorize things. The process of reading music and mastering finger placement is connected with fine motor skills and even better hand eye coordination (协调) .These types of experiences may have positive effects on the developing brains of young people(即便如此,研究人员认为这些结果仍然是有意义的。演奏乐器需要孩子们更加专注并记住一些东西。识谱和掌握手指位置的过程与精细运动技能甚至更好的手眼协调能力相关。这些类型的经历可能对年轻人正在发育的大脑产生积极影响。)”可知,演奏音乐对于大脑的发育是一个强有力的工具。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“So, why not pick up an instrument like a guitar or violin? It’s a great way to improve yourself and bring more music into the world. After all, who wouldn’t want to make the world sound better?(那么,为什么不拿起一把像吉他或小提琴这样的乐器呢?这是提升自己并为世界带来更多音乐的好方法。毕竟,谁不想让世界听起来更美好呢?)”可知,作者认为学习一种乐器是值得的,是提升自己的好方式。故选A。
(24-25高一下·陕西榆林·期中)Humans aren’t the only animals that move to music. Parrots have been known to do it. And now rats have been observed moving their heads in time with the tunes of Mozart, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and others, according to a new study from the University of Tokyo. What’s more, the rats seems to respond to the same beats that get humans’ feet tapping (轻跺).
The researchers played a sonata by Mozart for lab rats at different variations (变更) of the original speed: 75%, 100%, 200% and 400%. Wireless sensors (感应器) on the rats’ bodies tracked their movements. Meanwhile,20 human participants were involved and listened to the same music through motion sensor-equipped headphones.
It was observed that the rats’ head movements were the most obvious when the music played at its normal speed, which was around 132 bpm (beats per minute). The same was true for human participants. The researchers then changed to some pop songs such as Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. As with Mozart’s, rats moved their heads along the rhythm of pop songs, similar to how people do, at about 120 to 140 bpm.
The study showed that both rats and humans moved their heads along to the beat in a similar rhythm. The level of head bopping from both humans and rats decreased as the music sped up. The study suggests that there is something similar about the way human and rat brains respond to rhythm, but rats do not match their motions to the beat like humans do. Humans can predict the timing of a beat and move predictably to it.
Aniruddh Patel, a psychologist who studies brain response to music, says humans and parrots respond to beats with big, voluntary movements such as head shaking, dancing or foot tapping. Patel also stresses that this study does not show that rats have the same emotional associations with music as humans do. Yet he believes it could help reveal how humans and some other animals evolved a sense of rhythm.
1.At which speed would rats show the clearest movements?
A.75 bpm. B.100 bpm. C.132 bpm. D.150 bpm.
2.How do rats differ from humans in response to music?
A.They seem more interested in pop music.
B.They make similar movements to different rhythms.
C.They prefer moving their heads with the beat.
D.They are unable to predict the beat of music.
3.What is Patel’s attitude towards the study?
A.Uncaring. B.Doubtful. C.Positive. D.Disapproving.
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.Rats may respond to music like human do.
B.Humans are the only animals that move to music.
C.Music is attractive to rats.
D.Music affects rats’ brains.

1.What does Barton try to do in Thailand?
A.He teaches music to classical music lovers B.He gives concerts to animal health workers.
C.He plays classical music to weak elephants. D.He performs music in local elephant shows.
2.What does Barton want to say by sharing his experience at Elephants World?
A.He enjoys sharing his stories online.
B.Elephants show great interest in his music.
C.He is inspired by elephants to create new music.
D.The living conditions at Elephants World are terrible.
