Have you ever put your old clothes into the donation box in your neighborhood? If not, you can do it right now because the clothes donation is becoming a trend (趋势) in Urumqi.
“From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes which I no longer wear. You know, we teenagers are growing fast. I think it’s a good way to help others,” Lin Tao, a junior student, says.
“I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I’ll put them into the donation box,” Miss Li, a pretty young lady, says.
“That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil cases,” Mrs. Wang, an old woman, says. “Sometimes I also look through the box for some nice clothes.”
However, there are some problems along with the popularity of clothes donation. Recently, a UTV reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey. Here are the results:
The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away clothes.
Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of wearing them.
Some communities set the donation box in unsuitable places. So there are few clothes in it.
Many clothes are too old and shabby (破烂).
“What’s worse,” one of the staff members in a community added, “we quite often see people throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We’ve tried to stop them several times but failed. It has been the most serious problem since we set the box.”
In order to make the donation box work in an efficient way, the government is taking action. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it’ll be more convenient for people in need to take the clothes away.

Many people go to school for their education. They learn languages, history, politics, geography, physics, chemistry and mathematics. Others go to school to learn skills in order to make a living. School education is very important and useful. Yet, no one can learn everything from school. A teacher, no matter how much he knows, cannot teach his students everything they want to know. The teacher’s job is to show his students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So, students need to learn much more outside school by themselves.
It is always more important to know how to study by oneself than to remember some facts or a formula. It is actually quite easy to learn a certain fact in history or a formula in mathematics. But it is very difficult to use a formula in working out a math problem. Great scientists before us didn’t get everything from school. Their teachers only showed them the way. Edison didn’t even finish primary school. But they were all so successful. They invented so many things for human beings. The reason for their success is that they knew how to study. They read books that were not taught at school. They would ask many questions as they read. They did thousands of experiments. They worked hard all their lives, wasting not a single moment. Most importantly, they knew how to use their brains.
41. What’s the teacher’s job?
____________________________________________________
42. Which is more important to know, how to study by oneself or how to remember some facts?

【答案】例文
In our English class, we had a discussion about what we can do to make our home a happier place. We shared different ideas.
Some say it’s better to spend more time with family. The more we get together, the better we understand each other. Some think family members should share happiness and worries. For example, when they have problems, we should try to cheer them up. Others believe it’s important to remember our family members’ birthdays. We can give small presents to them.
I think showing love for family is necessary. If we help with housework, they may feel warmer. Sometimes, even the smallest thing like walking with family makes them happier. Though we’re young, we can do much to make a happier home.

The chief engineer was worried. He called upon the biggest and strongest engines, but one by one, they all failed to move the heavy toys. They complained about the steepness of the hill and the weight of the cargo (货物). Just as the chief engineer was about to give up, the little engine found its way up the hill.
“I think I can; I think I can,” the little engine talked to itself as it began the task. The other engines laughed and called out, “You’re too small! You’ll never be able to do it!” But the little engine continued to chant, “I think I can; I think I can.”
Slowly, but surely, the little engine made progress, but it never stopped. The villagers and the other engines watched in amazement as the little engine, with its positive attitude and perseverance (毅力), managed to move the toys down the hill. When the little engine finally reached the bottom, the villagers cheered, and the other engines stood in silence.

People can either wear them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil cases” Mrs.
Many clothes are too old and shabby (破烂的).

42. Which is more important to know, how to study by oneself or how to remember some facts?
