When I was a child, an artist lived in the woods at the far end of the street where I lived with my parents. I was always told not to adventure into those woods, which, naturally, aroused my curiosity endlessly. His name was Jacques. They said he was a “mad artist,” crazy and mean and he had a dog, who he kept tied to a tree with a very long rope so that no one could come near. I knew that part wasn’t true because I spent hours in those woods and never saw a dog or heard any barking.
Jacques had a very unique artistic technique, not a “modern” artist, not “abstract” or “impressionist” or any other art form of which I admittedly know little. His was, in my description, “imaginary movement, ” or “not so still life” if one can imagine such an art form.
I used to slip into those woods and watch Jacques for hours as I stood unnoticed among the shadows of huge trees in sunlight at the window of the shabby wooden hut that was his studio. I was always fascinated to watch him and was especially excited when he began a new painting.
When he began a new painting, he always seemed to have an angry frown on his face. Then, his expression would change from angry to deep concentration as if his whole being was somehow pulled inside himself and the outside world disappeared.
Afterward, he would look at the painting again and then move to the side, make a half-turn, and make a dramatic bow to an invisible audience as if he had been watched during the entire period of creation.
I had watched him go through this entire procedure, from start to finish, on more occasions than I can count, each time astonished by the amazing result of his precision. But there was one time, actually, the last time I watched him, as he stepped away from the canvas (画布), I was completely confused to see that the figure in the painting stared back at me, like a perfect mirror of me in my current disbelief, so clearly reflected on the canvas, it was chilling. How could he have caught what was not present when he didn’t even know I was there?
Or did he?
24. Why was the author always told not to go into the woods?
A. The woods were at the far end of the street. B. Jacques had a dog running wild in the woods.
C. Jacques was considered dangerous and unkind. D. The woods were dangerous because of wild animals.
25. Which words can be used to describe Jacques?
A. Focused and odd. B. Angry and frustrated.
C. Social and impressive. D. Scared and bad-tempered.
26. What can be inferred from the author’s confusion?
A. The author had already predicted the content of the painting.
B. The painting’s mirror-like effect was due to a technical error.
C. Jacques might have been aware of the author’s presence all along.
D. Jacques intentionally painted the author’s reflection to frighten him.
27. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Art speaks where words fail. B. Art reveals the unseen observer.
C. Art lightens truths that canvas cannot carry. D. Art bridges the gap between reality and imagination.
【答案】24. C 25. A 26. C 27. B

【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要介绍了作者小时候偷偷观察住在树林里的艺术家雅克作画的经历及其中的奇妙发现。
【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中的“They said he was a “mad artist,” crazy and mean and he had a dog, who he kept tied to a tree with a very long rope so that no one could come near. (他们说他是一个“疯狂的艺术家”,既疯狂又刻薄,而且他有一条狗,他用一根很长的绳子把狗拴在树上,这样就没人能靠近了。)”可知,作者总是被告知不要进入树林是因为雅克被认为是危险且不友好的。故选C项。
25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Then, his expression would change from angry to deep concentration as if his whole being was somehow pulled inside himself and the outside world disappeared.(然后,他的表情会从愤怒变为全神贯注,仿佛他的整个身心都被某种力量拉进了自己的内心,外面的世界消失了。)”可知,雅克作画时非常专注,结合第五段中的“Afterward, he would look at the painting again and then move to the side, make a half-turn, and make a dramatic bow to an invisible audience as if he had been watched during the entire period of creation.(之后,他会再次看这幅画,然后走到一边,转个半圈,对着一个看不见的观众戏剧性地鞠躬,就好像他在整个创作过程中都被人注视着一样。)”可知,雅克的行为很古怪,所以可以用“专注和古怪”来描述雅克。故选A项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“How could he have caught what was not present when he didn’t even know I was there?(他怎么能捕捉到当时并不存在的东西呢,他甚至都不知道我在那里?)”以及尾段“Or did he?(还是说他知道呢?)”可知,作者对于雅克画中出现的与自己当时状态相似的形象感到困惑,由此可推断,雅克可能一直都知道作者的存在。故选C项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“But there was one time, actually, the last time I watched him, as he stepped away from the canvas (画布), I was completely confused to see that the figure in the painting stared back at me, like a perfect mirror of me in my current disbelief, so clearly reflected on the canvas, it was chilling. How could he have caught what was not present when he didn’t even know I was there?(但有一次,确切地说是我最后一次看他作画时,当他从画布前退开的那一刻,我惊讶地发现画中的人物正回望着我,就像一面完美的镜子,把我此刻难以置信的表情清晰地映照在画布上,令人不寒而栗。他怎么可能捕捉到那些并不存在的东西呢?更何况他甚至不知道我就在那里。)”可知,文章讲述了作者偷偷观察雅克作画,而雅克的画中却出现了似乎与作者当时状态一致的形象,仿佛揭示了作者这个一直未被发现的观察者的存在,所以从这篇文章中我们可以了解到艺术揭示了看不见的观察者。故选B项。
C
It is late at night. You are alone and wandering empty streets in search of your parked car when you hear footsteps creeping up from behind. Your heart pounds; your blood pressure skyrockets. Your stomach knots, and your muscles curve, ready to sprint or fight.
Experiences like this reveal the tight integration between brain and body in the creation of mind — thoughts, perceptions, feelings and personality unique to each of us. The brain gives most people a vivid sensory cognition of the world. But those who might attempt to preserve their mind by uploading its data into a computer miss a critical point: “The body is essential to the mind.”
How is this crucial brain-body connection orchestrated? The answer involves the very unusual vagus nerve (迷走神经). The longest nerve in the body, it winds its way from the brain throughout the head and trunk, issuing commands to our organs and receiving sensations from them. Much of the puzzling range of functions it regulates, such as mood, learning, and fear, are automatic and operate without conscious control. The vagus nerve is the conduit of the mind.
The most vigorous current research involves stimulating this nerve with electricity to enhance cognition and memory and for a variety of therapies for neurological (神经学) and psychological disorders. But how could stimulating a single nerve potentially have such wide-ranging psychological and cognitive benefits? To understand this, we must understand the vagus nerve itself.
The vagus nerve connects the brainstem to the body's organs. Signals between the brainstem and the body travel up and down the nerve to twist your gut (肠道) for digestion, organize your immune system, pace your heart, and dial your blood pressure up and down.
Its influence goes beyond basic life support. The vagus nerve is critical to generating mind by integrating the brain and body. Choking is terrifying because death could be mere minutes away. That heightened mental state is dependent on signals coming from the body — the inability to breathe or swallow — and the vagus nerve both senses and controls the choking response. Many other mental states depend on the mind-body connection that involves information going to the brain and out of the brain. The vagus nerve is that connection. Its length and widespread nature throughout the brain as well as the body allow it to coordinate such diverse bodily functions in a way that independent nerves could not.
28. The first paragraph is to ________.
A. make an assumption B. introduce the topic
C. highlight an opinion D. illustrate an argument
29. What does the word “conduit” underlined in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Circle. B. Pathway. C. Clue. D. Tool.
30. The vagus nerve coordinates bodily functions mainly due to its ________.
A conscious regulation ability B. exclusive control of digestion
C. direct link to mental disorders D. length and widespread distribution
31. It is implied in this passage that the vagus nerve ________.
A. contributes greatly to the generation of mind
B. regulates body and brain responses separately
C. connects organs and receives commands from them
D. stimulates electricity to enhance cognition and memory
【答案】28. B 29. B 30. D 31. A

In an article published on July 1st in Nature Medicine, Dr Herr and his team at MIT describe seven people with below-the-knee amputations (截肢) who can now walk normally with the help of surgery and new robotic prostheses (假肢). For the first time, Dr Herr says, people have been able to walk with bionic legs — mechanical prostheses that mimic their biological counterparts — that can be fully controlled by their brains.
As the most important muscles in a complete leg come in pairs, so that one muscle can stretch while the other contracts, the goal of Dr Herr's procedure was to replicate (复制) this structure in those who had undergone amputations. The surgery, therefore, involved sewing together the ends of two sets of leg muscles in the remaining part of the participants’ legs. Each of these new connections forms a so-called agonist-antagonist myoneural interface, or AMI. This, in effect, replicates the mechanisms necessary for movement as well as the perception of the limb's position in space. Traditional amputations, in contrast, create no such pairings in place of the ones removed.
Dr Herr's team then gave each of the participants a battery-powered prosthesis developed in their lab, along with a small electrical controller. The prosthesis was connected to the AMI by electrodes on the skin, such that the controller could pick up the AMI muscle movements and translate them to movement in the prosthesis.
Once the robotic leg was linked to the AMI, nerve signals travelling from the brain to the muscles and back allowed the participants to have full control of their new legs. Though prostheses controlled by nerve signals have been designed before, these were typically only controlled by the participants' brains during certain movements, such as when the foot was off the ground, in the “swing phase” of walking. But in the latest study the participants were in charge at all times. “No previous study was able to show this level of brain control, ” says Dr Herr.
Dr Herr's “promising and beautiful” approach could be the end goal for below-the-knee amputations. But it remains to be seen if it could achieve similar results for people with amputations involving knees or upper-body limbs. Nor will everyone be able to get the AMIs they need. Decades after his amputation, Dr Herr has only enough muscle mass to construct an AMI for a robotic ankle, but not a whole robotic foot. He says he is considering it regardless. Even if he cannot get the full effect, it may prove a sensible step.
32. What is the purpose of creating AMI during the surgery?
A. To reduce the risk of infection in amputees.
B. To connect the prosthesis directly to the electrodes.
C. To sew together the ends of two sets of leg muscles.
D. To replicate the muscle pairing mechanism of complete legs.
33. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Dr Herr is determined to further his research.
B. Everyone will be able to get the AMIs they need.
C. Prostheses controlled by nerve signals is a new design.
D. Robotic Prosthesis is suitable for people with upper-body amputation.
34. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. AMI Muscle Movements B. Below-The-Knee Amputations
C. The Full Brain-Controlled Bionic Legs D. The Rapid Development of Prostheses
【答案】32. D 33. A 34. C

第三部分 书面表达 (共两节,32分)
第一节 (共4小题;第40、41题各2分,第42题3分,第43题5分,共12分)
阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英语回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。
How can the vitality (生命力) of classic literary works be kept alive in the digital age? Wu Yaduo, a 17-year-old high school student, offers her answer.
Using her iPad, Wu turns stories from classical literature — like A Dream of Red Mansions, as well as the lives of famous poets like Li Bai into animated, hand-drawn videos.
Her videos have attracted tens of thousands of followers and millions of views online. To Wu, these works are intergenerational because they explore universal human emotions and lasting social themes.
However, she believes it is important to bridge the gap between these classics and modern life, making them more relatable and interesting, especially for younger audiences.
Wu decided to start with texts from high school Chinese textbooks after noticing that many students aren’t interested in these works simply because they have to learn them for school. “Classics shouldn’t be placed on a pedestal (神坛) ; instead, we should bring them closer, making them a part of our daily lives,” Wu said.
In her videos, Wu focuses on bringing text and sound elements together. For example, her adaptation of A Dream of Red Mansions was inspired by a song with a sad tone from a Chinese band.
Wu avoids telling stories in a traditional way; she wants her work to be “spicy”. A fan of an avant-garde (前卫的) movies and artworks, her hand-drawn animations are often filled with bright colors, dramatic tension, and striking visual impact.
Her unique method has received a lot of support from those around her. However, Wu still has regrets about her work. She finds it impossible to perfectly translate the vivid images in her mind into art. “Every time I draw, I feel annoyed that I can’t just copy and paste what’s in my head straight onto the iPad. It would be so much more amazing if I could,” she said. “But I still always look forward to my next piece.”
40. According to Wu, why are the classics passed on from generation to generation?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
41. What gave Wu the inspiration to adapt A Dream of Red Mansions into a video?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
42. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
Wu creates vivid images in her mind and she perfectly copies them straight onto the iPad.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
43. Would you like to watch any of the videos by Wu? Why or why not? (In about 40 words)
____________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】40. According to Wu, the classics are passed on from generation to generation because they explore universal human emotions and lasting social themes.
41. A song with a sad tone from a Chinese band gave Wu the inspiration to adapt A Dream of Red Mansions into a video.
42. Wu creates vivid images in her mind and she perfectly copies them straight onto the iPad.
According to the passage, Wu finds it impossible to perfectly translate the vivid images in her mind into art. She said “Every time I draw, I feel annoyed that I can’t just copy and paste what’s in my head straight onto the iPad.” So she can’t perfectly copy the images in her mind onto the iPad.
43. I would like to watch her videos. Because her unique way of presenting classics makes them more interesting and accessible, which can help me better understand the classics.

I had watched him go through this entire procedure from start to finish, on more occasions than I can count, each time astonished by the amazing result of his precision.
A Focused and odd.
A. conscious regulation ability B. exclusive control of digestion
C. direct link to mental disorders D. length and widespread distribution
31. It is implied in this passage that the vagus nerve ________.
A. contributes greatly to the generation of mind
B. regulates body and brain responses separately
C. connects organs and receives commands from them
D. stimulates electricity to enhance cognition and memory
D
