This 30-year-old engineer is the creator of “Pavegen”, a paving tile (铺地砖) that turns the force of people’s footsteps into clean, renewable energy. The idea first came to him while he worked at the energy company E.ON. He was asked to design a street light that’s powered by solar energy or by wind. “But when the sun’s not shining or the wind’s not blowing, there’s no power. So I tried for a year and failed.” He was really upset. Then one day he was walking through Victoria Station in London and thought about all the people there. “I’d read that 38000 people an hour walked through the station. What if we could use that energy as a power source?” he thought. So we have Pavegen. The weight of a footstep on his tile makes a flywheel inside it turn. “The more people walk, the more this flywheel turns,” Laurence explains. “Then we withdraw the power from the flywheel as we need it.” At the Paris Marathon, where Pavegen installed (安装) tiles at the finish, the runners crossed 176 tiles, leaving 401,756 footsteps that generated 3,141,926 joules (焦耳) — enough to recharge 1,880 mobile phones or power an electric car for 24km. Today Laurence has already exported his tiles to the world. “We’ve done more than 130 projects in over 30 countries. My vision is for Pavegen to be to cities what ‘Intel inside’ is for PCs. I want to cover every single city in the world with our tiles,” he said. But the producing cost — which Laurence estimates as £230-£310 per square metre of tile — remains a problem. Laurence claims, “In the next 24 months we’ll make our tiles the same price as normal flooring. And when you install them, they’ll give you energy for free.” 4. What directly inspired Laurence to develop Pavegen? A. The energy crisis in London. B. A solar-powered street light project. C. The high foot traffic at Victoria Station. D. A request from the energy company E.ON. 5. What is the function of the flywheel? A. To change footsteps into energy. B. To consume generated energy. C. To control power output. D. To enhance tile durability. 6. What do the numbers in paragraph 5 show about Pavegen? A. Its popularity. B. Its composition. C. Its sustainability. D. Its effectiveness. 7. What can we conclude about the future of Pavegen? A. It will expand across the whole world soon. B. It will be widely used for sports events. C. It will become easily affordable. D. It will replace traditional tiles. C 5. A 6. D 7. 根据文章第三段“He was really upset. Then one day he was walking through Victoria Station in London and thought about all the people there. “I’d read that 38,000 people an hour walked through the station. What if we could use that energy as a power source?” he thought. 根据文章第四段“So we have Pavegen. The weight of a footstep on his tile makes a flywheel inside it turn. “The more people walk, the more this flywheel turns,” Laurence explains. “Then we withdraw the power from the flywheel as we need it.” (于是就有了“Pavegen”。当人们的脚步踩在这种地砖上时,地砖内部的一个飞轮就会转动。“走路的人越多,这个飞轮转动得就越多,”Laurence解释道,“然后我们可以根据需要从飞轮中获取电力。”)”可知,当人们的脚步踩在“Pavegen”地砖上时,地砖内部的飞轮会转动,转动的飞轮能让人们提取所需的电力。因此,飞轮的功能是将脚步转化为能量。故选A。 根据文章第五段“At the Paris Marathon, where Pavegen installed (安装) tiles at the finish, the runners crossed 176 tiles, leaving 401,756 footsteps that generated 3,141,926 joules (焦耳) — enough to recharge 1,880 mobile phones or power an electric car for 24km. 根据文章最后一段“But the producing cost — which Laurence estimates as £230-£310 per square metre of tile — remains a problem. Laurence claims, “In the next 24 months we’ll make our tiles the same price as normal flooring. And when you install them, they’ll give you energy for free.” (但是,生产成本——Laurence估计每平方米地砖的成本在230到310英镑之间——仍然是个问题。Laurence宣称:“在未来的24个月里,我们会让我们的地砖价格与普通地板的价格一样。而且当你安装了它们,它们会免费为你提供能源。”)”可知,目前“Pavegen”地砖的生产成本较高,这是个问题,但劳伦斯宣称在未来24个月内会让这种地砖的价格和普通地板一样,即价格会变得更合理,人们更容易负担得起。故选C。 C Wildlife documentaries like BBC’s Planet Earth Ⅲ are known for offering breathtaking images of animals in their natural habitats. You’d be forgiven for thinking these shows offer an objective window into the animals’ lives as they hunt, rest and raise their young. But this isn’t quite the case. While the images we see are filmed on location, many of the sounds are recorded and added to the programmes later. The sounds of animals walking, running and chewing food, for example, are almost always recorded by human ‌“Foley artists” in a sound studio far away from the filming location, often weeks or months later. A lot of wildlife documentaries are shot using telephoto lenses that can see their subjects clearly from a great distance. But sound recordists typically can’t get close enough to collect clear sound without disturbing the animals. Wildlife documentaries also tend to require large crews. If sound were recorded on location, it would be muddied by background noises. I’ve talked to Foley artists who specialise in animal sound and observed them at work in their studios. They sometimes knock coconut shells against stones to make the sound of horse footsteps. For an elephant, they might use rocks against straw-covered earth. A pair of old leather shoes brushed quickly might be used to make the sound of a bird’s wings as it takes off. Watching Foley artists at work on wildlife projects amazes me. But the significance of this technique goes further than that. A slithery (滑溜的) sound may be matched to the image of a snake — even if a human would be unlikely to hear much if they really stood next to the camera. Emphasising such a sound is unlikely to win the snake any new fans, while a soft yawn (打哈欠) accompanying a close-up of a baby tiger may increase the sense of that animal’s cuteness. So while the masterful work done by Foley artists on wildlife programmes and films should be celebrated for its ingenuity and magical effects, perhaps it should also be taken as an invitation to think critically about exactly what we see, and hear. 8. What can we infer about Planet Earth Ⅲ? A. There are many Foley artists on site. B. It features mostly much-beloved wildlife. C. It genuinely shows animals’ life in nature. D. Post-production contributes greatly to its success. 9. What does paragraph 3 mainly discuss about wildlife filming? A. Reasons that Foley artists are needed for it. B. Benefits of using advanced equipment in it. C. Challenges that arise during it. D. Steps involved in it. 10. Which word best describes Foley artists’ work according to paragraph 4? A. Resourcefulness driven. B. Financially-limited. C. Physically-demanding. D. Curiosity-inspiring. 11. What does the author suggest the audience of wildlife films do? A. Focus on the visual aspects. B. Rely on experts to understand wildlife. C. Watch them in an undisturbed background. D. Stay emotionally unconnected to the sounds. D 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第二段中“While the images we see are filmed on location, many of the sounds are recorded and added to the programmes later. The sounds of animals walking, running and chewing food, for example, are almost always recorded by human ‌“Foley artists” in a sound studio far away from the filming location, often weeks or months later.(虽然我们看到的画面是实地拍摄的,但很多声音是后来录制并添加到节目中的。例如,动物行走、奔跑和咀嚼食物的声音几乎都是由人类“拟音师”在远离拍摄地点的录音棚里录制的,通常是几周或几个月后)”以及后文对拟音师工作的描述可知,后期制作对《地球脉动Ⅲ》的成功贡献很大。故选D项。 【9题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“A lot of wildlife documentaries are shot using telephoto lenses that can see their subjects clearly from a great distance. But sound recordists typically can’t get close enough to collect clear sound without disturbing the animals. Wildlife documentaries also tend to require large crews. If sound were recorded on location, it would be muddied by background noises.(很多野生动物纪录片使用长焦镜头拍摄,能从很远的距离清晰地拍摄到拍摄对象。但录音师通常无法在不打扰动物的情况下靠近到足以收集清晰声音的距离。野生动物纪录片往往需要大量工作人员。如果在实地录制声音,会被背景噪音干扰)”可知,在拍摄野生动物纪录片时,录音师通常无法在不打扰动物的情况下靠近到足以收集清晰声音的距离,所以需要拟音师后期配音。故该段主要讨论了需要拟音师的原因。故选A项。 根据第四段中“They sometimes knock coconut shells against stones to make the sound of horse footsteps. For an elephant, they might use rocks against straw covered earth. A pair of old leather shoes brushed quickly might be used to make the sound of a bird’s wings as it takes off.(他们有时会用椰子壳敲石头来模拟马蹄声。对于大象的声音,他们可能会用石头摩擦覆盖着稻草的地面。一双旧皮鞋快速摩擦可能会被用来模拟鸟儿起飞时翅膀的声音)”可知,拟音师的工作体现出足智多谋,利用各种物品来模拟声音。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“So, while the masterful work done by Foley artists on wildlife programmes and films should be celebrated for its ingenuity and magical effects, perhaps it should also be taken as an invitation to think critically about exactly what we see, and hear.(所以,虽然拟音师在野生动物节目和电影中所做的精湛工作因其巧妙和神奇的效果值得赞扬,但也许这也应该促使我们批判性地思考我们所看到和听到的内容)”可知,作者建议野生动物节目的观众要批判性看待所看到和听到的内容,不要让声音过度影响情绪。故选D项。 D Imagine an artificial intelligence model that can watch and understand moving images like you and me. Now, scientists have made this a reality by creating MovieNet: an innovative AI that processes videos much like how our brains interpret real-life scenes. This brain-inspired AI model can perceive moving scenes by simulating how neurons (神经元) make real-time sense of the world. While conventional AI excels at still image recognition, MovieNet is designed to understand complex, dynamic scenes, allowing it to recognize small changes over time. To create MovieNet, Hollis Cline, senior author of the study, examined how animals’ brains process real-world scenes. Specifically, he studied how tadpoles’ (蝌蚪的) neurons respond to moving stimuli. Tadpoles’ neurons process these visual inputs like solving puzzle pieces: each piece alone may not make sense, but together they form a complete image in motion. Different neurons process various “puzzle pieces” of a real-life moving image, which the brain then combines to form a continuous scene. Using this understanding, the researchers trained MovieNet to process video clips by identifying small visual signals, allowing it to distinguish between small changes in scenes. In testing, MovieNet achieved 82.3% accuracy, outperforming trained human observers by 18% and doing much better than existing AI models. Beyond its higher accuracy, MovieNet is more environment-friendly. Conventional AI requires vast amounts of data and energy, but MovieNet compresses (压缩) data like a zipped file, reducing environmental impact. “We’ve also made AI far less demanding,” says Cline. MovieNet could also transform medicine. It might help detect early signs of diseases by tracking small movement changes that are difficult for human eyes to detect. Looking ahead, the team plans to improve MovieNet’s ability to adapt to different environments and enhance its potential applications. “By designing models that think like living organisms (有机体), we can achieve efficiency levels that aren't possible with traditional AI,” says Cline, “Biology is a gold mine.” 12. What does the underlined word “simulating” mean in paragraph 2? A. Copying. B. Inspiring. C. Demonstrating. D. Recognizing. 13. MovieNet is trained ________. A. to integrate dynamic images B. to increase visual inputs C. to feed on information pieces D. to look into tadpoles’ neurons 14. According to paragraph 5, what is an advantage of MovieNet? A. Its powerful data storage. B. Its low energy consumption. C. Its control of medical diseases. D. Its improvement on drug effects. 15. What can be concluded from Cline’s words in the last paragraph? A. Biology brings us financial profits. B. Living organisms can outperform AI. C. AI can assist in biological development. D. Drawing inspiration from biology is promising. A 13. A 14. B 15. 故选A项。 根据第三段的句子“Tadpoles’ neurons process these visual inputs like solving puzzle pieces: each piece alone may not make sense, but together they form a complete image in motion. Different neurons process various “puzzle pieces” of a real-life moving image, which the brain then combines to form a continuous scene.(蝌蚪的神经元处理这些视觉输入就像解决拼图一样:每一块单独可能都没有意义,但它们一起形成了一个完整的运动图像。不同的神经元处理现实生活中运动图像的各种“拼图”,然后大脑将它们组合成一个连续的场景。)”和第四段的句子“Using this understanding, the researchers trained MovieNet to process video clips by identifying small visual signals, allowing it to distinguish between small changes in scenes.(利用这种理解,研究人员训练MovieNet通过识别小的视觉信号来处理视频片段,使其能够区分场景中的小变化。)” 故选A项。 根据第五段的句子“Conventional AI requires vast amounts of data and energy, but MovieNet compresses data like a zipped file, reducing environmental impact.(传统的人工智能需要大量的数据和能源,但MovieNet像压缩文件一样压缩数据,减少了对环境的影响。)” 根据最后一段的句子“By designing models that think like living organisms, we can achieve efficiency levels that aren’t possible with traditional AI,” says Cline, “Biology is a gold mine.(通过设计像生物体一样思考的模型,我们可以达到传统人工智能无法达到的效率水平,”克莱恩说,“生物学是一座金矿。)” Zumba One faithful day in Colombia in the 1990s, Alberto “Beto” Perez, a fitness instructor, realized that he had forgotten his usual workout playlist, which led to an unexpected dance session to loud Latin beats instead. ____16____ With that, Zumba was born, bringing new blood to fitness sessions. A Zumba class is a symphony of simple dance steps that activate your hips (臀部) and step count. These simple movements actually offer an impressive boost. According to John Porcari, a professor of exercise and sport science at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, a 40-minute Zumba session burns about 370 calories. ____17____ According to a study published in the American Journal of Health Behavior, overweight women were also fond of Zumba. Many participants claimed that they reduced weight and fat percentage successfully after participating in Zumba three times a week for 16 weeks. ____18____ They actually liked the experience, transforming Zumba into a new way of life. Wondering what to wear to your first Zumba class? You’ll be moving in groups and dancing along with the instructor, so it’s important to think about what’s comfortable and also boosts your confidence. ____19____ From athletic-ready streetwear looks to casual T-shirts, you will definitely find something that fits your personal style and feels functional. ____20____ An hour workout is more than simply repetitions and sets; it’s an invitation to engage in movement, let go, and enjoy the music. Zumba welcomes everyone, whether you’re a senior trying to maintain physical fitness or someone who has grown bored with traditional activities. A. What’s more impressive? B. How did Perez come up with the idea? C. That’s equal to a hearty bike ride or a light jog. D. It was Perez’s dream to make someday as a dancer. E. Luckily, there are a variety of ways to dress for Zumba. F. On the Zumba stage, age and ability become unimportant. G. This move transformed his exercise class into a dance party. 16. G 17. C 18. You’ll be moving in groups and dancing along with the instructor, so it’s important to think about what’s comfortable and also boosts your confidence.(想知道第一次上尊巴课该穿什么吗? 而下文“From athletic-ready streetwear looks to casual T-shirts, you will definitely find something that fits your personal style and feels functional.(从适合运动的街头服饰风格到休闲T恤,你肯定能找到一些既符合你个人风格又实用的服装。)” E“Luckily, there are a variety of ways to dress for Zumba.(幸运的是,有很多种适合尊巴的穿着方式。)” 【20题详解】 根据下文“An hour workout is more than simply repetitions and sets; it’s an invitation to engage in movement, let go, and enjoy the music. Many high school students often turned to her for guidance and as her neighbor, me included. One afternoon, feeling troubled and uncertain about my future after a disappointing exam,I decided to knock on Mrs. Thompson’s door. “I don’t know what I’m doing with my life,” I admitted, my eyes fixed on the floor.“It feels like everyone else has it all figured out, and I’m just stuck.“ My voice trembled with sadness and a hint of fear. I had bombed my last math test, and it felt like that failure stayed in every corner of my mind, increasing my anxiety about college examination and what I might want to pursue. While my friends seemed to advance effortlessly through their studies, I was struggling to stay afloat. The feeling that I was falling behind only deepened my sense of hopelessness. Mrs. Thompson listened carefully, her face a picture of calm and understanding. Without saying much, she handed me a small tomato seedling (苗) in a pot. The tiny plant, with its delicate green leaves, seemed to symbolize a slight sign of hope. ”Let’s plant this in the garden,“ she said gently. “Water it every day and make sure it gets enough sunlight. But for a whole week, don’t focus on its progress. Just trust that it’s growing.” Every day, I faithfully watered the little seedling, as if I was putting my own hopes into it.I carefully ensured it got the right amount of sunlight, positioning it just so under the sun’s rays. With great self-control, I resisted the urge to examine it too closely. As the days went by, I felt a mix of eagerness and impatience, like a child waiting for a long-promised gift, longing to see some sign that my efforts were making a difference. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph one: “Let’s go to check on the plant,” Mrs. Thompson said to me a week later. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph two: One day,as I bent down to water it, a tiny yellow flower caught my eye. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“Let’s go to check on the plant,” Mrs. Thompson said to me a week later. With a heart full of anticipation, I followed her to the garden. When we reached the spot where we’d planted the seedling, I was amazed. The once - tiny plant had grown significantly. Its leaves were greener and more robust, and it stood taller, reaching towards the sky. Mrs. Thompson looked at me and smiled, “You see, just like this seedling, growth doesn’t always happen at a speed we can immediately notice. Your efforts in studying are like the care you gave this plant. They’re working, even if you can’t see the results right away.” One day, as I bent down to water it, a tiny yellow flower caught my eye. A sense of joy and accomplishment washed over me. That little flower was a symbol of hope and proof that my care had paid off. It made me realize that just as the seedling needed time and consistent care to bloom, so did I in my studies. I no longer felt as lost or hopeless. From then on, I faced my study challenges with newfound confidence, knowing that with perseverance, my efforts would surely lead to beautiful “blooms” in my future. 词汇激活 行为类 ①充满:(be) full of/ (be) filled with ②注意到:notice/ spot ③带来、导致:lead to/ contribute to 情绪类 ①惊讶的:amazed/ surprised ②成就感:a sense of accomplishment/ a sense of achievement 【点睛】【高分句型1】When we reached the spot where we’d planted the seedling, I was amazed.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句和where引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Your efforts in studying are like the care you gave this plant.(运用了省略关系代词的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年度高三年级下学期一模综合素质评价 英语学科 (满分150分,考试时间120分钟) Ⅰ卷(共95分) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? This 30-year-old engineer is the creator of “Pavegen”, a paving tile (铺地砖) that turns the force of people’s footsteps into clean, renewable energy. The idea first came to him while he worked at the energy company E.ON. He was asked to design a street light that’s powered by solar energy or by wind. “But when the sun’s not shining or the wind’s not blowing there’s no power. So I tried for a year and failed.” He was really upset. Then one day he was walking through Victoria Station in London and thought about all the people there. “I’d read that 38,000 people an hour walked through the station. What if we could use that energy as a power source?” he thought. C To control power output. C Wildlife documentaries like BBC’s Planet Earth Ⅲ are known for offering breathtaking images of animals in their natural habitats. You’d be forgiven for thinking these shows offer an objective window into the animals’ lives as they hunt rest and raise their young. So, while the masterful work done by Foley artists on wildlife programmes and films should be celebrated for its ingenuity and magical effects, perhaps it should also be taken as an invitation to think critically about exactly what we see, and hear. D Imagine an artificial intelligence model that can watch and understand moving images like you and me. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Zumba One faithful day in Colombia in the 1990s, Alberto “Beto” Perez, a fitness instructor, realized that he had forgotten his usual workout playlist, which led to an unexpected dance session to loud Latin beats instead. ____16____ With that, Zumba was born, bringing new blood to fitness sessions. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
