Last summer, my friends and I went on a camping trip in the mountains. We were all excited about the adventure ahead, but little did we know what was in store for us.
We arrived at the campsite in the late afternoon. The sun was setting, and the sky was painted with hues of orange and pink. We set up our tents and started a fire to cook our dinner. As we sat around the fire, we planned our activities for the next day. We decided to go on a hike to see the nearby waterfall.
The next morning, we woke up early and set out on our hike. The trail was steep and narrow, but the scenery was breathtaking. We passed through the forests and crossed the streams. As we got higher, the air became colder and thinner. We had to stop frequently to catch our breath.
After a few hours of hiking, we finally reached the waterfall. It was amazing. The water fell down from a great height, and the mist created a rainbow. We sat down to catch our breath and take in the beauty of the waterfall.
But our adventure was far from over. As we were about to leave, we noticed dark clouds gathering overhead. It started raining heavily, and we realized that we had not brought any rain gear. We were completely soaked(湿透)and trembling in the cold. We decided to take shelter in a nearby cave until the rain stopped.
The cave was dark and damp, but it gave us a brief relief from the rain. We sat there for what seemed like hours, waiting for the rain to stop. But it only got worse. The thunder was so loud that it echoed through the cave, and the lightning was so bright that it lit up the cave like daylight.

That year, I was 16 years old and my father had just passed away in that cold late autumn. There were no Thanksgiving celebrating plans in my family that year. To make ends meet, my mother worked two jobs as a cleaning lady, and I had a part-time job in the downtown. It was the Thanksgiving night and it was raining and blowing. The shops were closed and the streets were decorated with the colorful lamps for the grant festival. My shift at work was over and I waited for the bus alone in the station.
The wind blew my thin coat and threatened to tear my worn-out hand-knit hat that my mother had knitted for me years ago. Wearing a pair of discolored pants, I shivered against the cold wind, deep in thought about how my father’s death led to my family heart broken and how my mother and I struggled to work to support our family.
A bus approached as I thought these things. Fortunately, a seat on the bus was unoccupied and I took it with delight, placing my feet on the perfect spot close to the heater. I cherished the small comfort of the warmth as it seeped (渗透) through the bottom of my wet feet.
Then a gentleman, perhaps in his 60s, appeared from somewhere in the back of the bus. He wore a hat and a fine woolen scarf. Then he stopped and sat down next to me, placing a shopping bag between us. Through the transparent shopping bag under my nose, I vaguely saw a box with chocolate printed on it, a box with a music box printed on it, and a clothing-type thing. These must be the gifts for a certain girl and I also wished to get such gifts. When he noticed my stare, I looked away immediately and curled up to keep warm, or rather, to hide my embarrassment.

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

In my twenties, I went far from home to study in America. Due to limited financial resources from my parents, I worked part-time on campus to pay for my bills. In addition, I did cleaning every Friday for an American family. If I was lucky enough, I could occasionally babysit a child for extra money.
Like most poor people, I had to be careful with every penny I spent, from food and clothing to rent and transportation. Because of a tight grocery budget, I couldn’t afford to buy fish, beef or certain other nutritious food. Due to an imbalanced diet, I would easily feel weak and tired.
As soon as Dai Mom realized that I was encountering financial hardship, she lovingly invited me to her home for dinner every Friday and weekend. In addition, whenever it was time to return home, she would always prepare me with some homemade dessert or food to take home. Her kind actions, like the seeds of love planted in my heart, profoundly changed my life. In particular, there was one event that I would always remember.
One early evening, while I was walking out of the library, I felt my blood sugar running low. I started to feel dizzy, and my hands started to shake a little. Searching my pockets, I found that I only had a few dollars left. I was dying for a free and tasty dinner. Without a second thought, I quickly headed for Dai Mom’s home, rather than go back to my apartment.
As I got to the door, Dai Mom immediately noticed my fatigue (疲劳). She seated me at the dining table, and before long, a plate of food was set in front of me on the table. “Have dinner. Don’t make yourself work so hard,” she said to me with a nice smile.

Tracey developed child brain paralysis (脑瘫) years ago. Today, she is a seventh-grader, still enjoying a happy life, trying new challenges, and teaching her friends a lot about persistence, the power of belief and sympathy. Looking back on the past few years, I have learned many vivid lessons about courage, determination and patience from my daughter.
At an early age, she wanted to learn to tie the shoes herself. I was at a loss. Because of her brain paralysis, Tracey has very little use of the fingers on her left hand. If I couldn’t tie a shoe single - handedly, how was I going to expect her? Three and a half years later, I still remember that first day of summer vacation. As I watched and encouraged her, Tracey finally made it with persistence. When she took her right hand away to reveal two neatly completed knots, she smiled from ea r to ear and I cried for joy. And the truth is, no one ever asked Tracey how old she was when she learned to tie her shoes. I learned about determination from her behaviors — and much more. Pace wasn’t going to be the important thing in Tracey’s life — achieving her goals within her own timetable would be what mattered most.
A few months ago, Tracey brought a registration form for basketball class home excitedly. This was going to be a major challenge for her. She could run only slowly, she was short, and she still had the use of only one hand. Was she awkward? Very. Did she fall? Of course. Bells of anxiety went off inside my head again, but I had learned to ignore them. She never gave up, throwing herself into the process, completely unaffected by what she couldn’t do. The pure joy was enough. The excitement in her eyes convincingly canceled out all the drawbacks and I signed her up.

I remember a time when I learned the true meaning of forgiveness. It was a period in my life that tested my patience and my ability to understand others.
It all started when I was in middle school. I had a close friend named Emily, and we spent a lot of time together. One day, Emily introduced me to a new girl in our class, named Olivia. Olivia was quiet and shy, but we quickly became friends as well.
One afternoon, after school, we were all working on a project in the classroom. As we were discussing our ideas, Olivia suddenly exclaimed out something that completely contradicted what I had been saying. I was shocked and felt a little embarrassed. I tried to explain my point of view, but Olivia was very stubborn and insisted on her own idea.
Emily, who was sitting next to me, tried to mediate (调节) the situation. But Olivia got angry and said some unkind words to me. I was hurt and angry, and I couldn’t believe that Olivia would treat me like that. I stormed out of the classroom, leaving Emily and Olivia behind.
The next few days were very difficult for me. I avoided Olivia as much as possible, and our friendship with Emily seemed to be stressed. I felt like I had been betrayed by Olivia, and I couldn’t understand why she would do such a thing.
One day, I asked Emily why she was still friends with Olivia after what she had done. Emily looked at me with a sad expression and said, “You know, Olivia has been through a lot lately. Her parents are going through a divorce, and she’s really struggling. Maybe she was rude to you because she was feeling overwhelmed and insecure.”
Hearing this, I felt a surge of guilt. I realized that I hadn’t taken the time to understand Olivia’s situation. I had been too quick to judge her and too focused on my own feelings of hurt. I decided to talk to Olivia and apologize for my behavior.

My father hated cats. Or so he told me when I begged for one as a child. Whenever I insisted, he would list all their bad traits: cats were lazy, they ripped up furniture, and they required too much care. The list went on. However, despite his warnings, my desire for a cat never faded.
After I graduated from university, I became a volunteer at an animal rescue center. This experience had a significant impact on me. I learned to tend to injured animals and saw firsthand how kindness and care could aid in their recovery. But I also realized that animals could provide emotional healing to humans too. This belief stayed with me.
A few years later, my father was diagnosed with kidney disease and began dialysis (透析). The news hit him hard. Overnight, he seemed to age years, the spark in his eyes dimming. His once cheerful nature turned into a look of sadness and acceptance of his fate. The future seemed hopeless, and our home was filled with a sense of sadness and despair.
In an effort to bring some joy and distraction into our home, I often told my father stories about the animals I encountered at the rescue center. At first, he was indifferent, but gradually, he seemed to look forward to hearing them. One story, in particular, touched his heart. It was about a large, Maine-coon-type cat found by firefighters. Its long orange fur was tangled and burnt from the wildfires in Alaska. Barely alive, it purred when touched despite its pain. The fire had claimed its back feet and all its front toes. The vet (兽医) doubted it would survive.
But the cat was a fighter. Named Bumpus, he faced his challenges head-on. Despite his severe injuries, he worked hard to walk again. To everyone’s amazement, he succeeded. Bumpus’s spirit made him a favorite among the volunteers. His determination and strength inspired us all. Through these stories, my father came to understand the incredible power of persistence and healing in animals. As my father listened to more stories about the animals at the rescue center, he began to change.

Whenever 12-year-old Kelly thought of her school, she was unhappy. The boys in her class always made fun of her “funny” walk, saying she was an ugly girl.
Kelly’s parent took her to the hospital for examination. It turned out that her walk was a sign of something far more serious. A doctor said that she suffered from scoliosis (脊柱侧弯) and needed an operation.
The operation was carried out one week later. Following the operation, Kelly had to lie flat on her back in the Children’s Hospital, wrapped in cast (石膏). She could do almost nothing but stare at the ceiling. She turned her eyes to one side and saw the dozen girls in her ward (病房), imagining they were all prettier than she would ever be.
One thing Kelly looked forward to each day was a visit from her parents. But that day Kelly didn’t even have that. A rainstorm had flooded out the roads, and Kelly was stuck, alone and hidden away from the world.
Luckily, the TV was on. When Kelly’s beloved TV icon (偶像) Ms. Robbins appeared on the screen, her eyes lit up. She and her whole family admired Ms. Robbins so much not only because of her excellent singing skills but also her devotion to charity. Ms. Robbins was always reported to make her efforts to help those in need, especially children. Now she was singing her hit song “Go for happiness”. When Ms. Robbins smiled through the TV screen, Kelly believed she was looking right at her, which filled Kelly’s heart with warmth and power. For a moment, Kelly even forgot about those boys who called her an ugly girl.
Noises in the doorway caught her attention. Some special person arrived for a visit. Unbelievable! It was Ms. Robbins!

“Oh, no!” Jack shouted while looking at the likes and comments on his recent TikTok video.
“Why aren’t people reacting to my content as they used to?”
Jack was a 19-year-old strong and muscular man addicted to the gym. He loved recording exercise videos and posting them on his TikTok account. Initially, his video logs (vlogs) were popular, but his posts’ reach soon decreased.
Jack wondered why people had stopped sharing and liking his videos, “Maybe my audience is tired of watching me work out in the gym,” he thought, determined to change the location of his videos.
The following day, Jack went to the neighborhood park and began filming while walking on the track.“Hi, guys! How about we shake things up a little? I’m to work out in the park today!” he said excitedly, looking into the camera lens (镜头).
“Let’s look for a good spot to warm up,” he said as he walked towards a bench(长椅), on which sat an elderly lady. Jack thought the bench was the perfect place to film his video because of the light.
He put his tripod stand (三脚架) on the bench and set the camera, but he felt like he needed the full bench. He wanted to place his camera where the lady sat, so he gestured to her to move, but the woman didn’t seem to understand.
“Get out of my way!” he yelled.“Can’t you see I’m filming a video? You old fool!” Looking him up and down in surprise, the old lady didn’t argue over his disrespectful attitude and quietly walked towards another bench.
Jack set his camera up, pressed the record button and waved at his followers, ready to demonstrate exercises. Suddenly, he tripped on a loose stone, lost balance and fell down, his head striking the bench and bleeding heavily.
Crying in pain, Jack tried to get up, but he didn’t have the strength to rise. He collapsed on the ground, screaming desperately for help.

We were sitting in her classroom, giggling, playing tricks on each other and talking about the latest information of the day. Mrs. Virginia DeView cleared her throat and asked us to be quiet.
“Now,” she said smiling, “we are going to discover our professions.” The class seemed to gasp(喘气) in chorus. Our professions? We stared at each other in disbelief. After all, we were only 13 and 14 years old.
Because Virginia DeView was demanding, most of us just overlooked her brilliance.
“Yes, you will all be searching for your future professions,” she said with a glow on her face as though this was the best thing she did in her classroom every year. “You will have to do a research paper on your upcoming career. Each of you will have to interview someone in your field, plus give an oral report.”
All of us went home confused. Who knows what they want to do at 13? I had narrowed it down, however. I liked art, singing and writing. But I was terrible in art, and when I sang, my sisters screamed: “Oh, please shut up.” The only thing left was writing.
Every day in her class, Virginia DeView monitored us. Where were we? Who had picked their careers? Finally, most of us had selected something: I picked print journalism(新闻工作). This meant I had to interview a devoted newspaper reporter in person, and I was terrified. Sensing this, for the next 90 minutes, Mrs. Virginia DeView filled me with stories about print journalism…
A few days later, I gave my oral report totally from memory. Surprisingly, I got an A on the entire project.
Years later, I forgot all about Virginia DeView and the careers we selected. I was in college hunting for a new career. My father wanted me in business, which seemed to be sound advice at the time, except that I had no sense of any business skills. Then I remembered Virginia DeView and my desire at 13 to be a journalist.

Jessica and the Necklace
Jessica and her little sister Anna slipped into their Mum’s room. “I’m just going to try on me jewelry,” said Jessica. She took a necklace and tried to put it on her neck. “Oh, no,” said Anna. “Mum doesn’t like us playing with her stuff.” “OK, you are the lookout,” instructed Jessica. “Stand by the door and let me know if Mum comes up the stairs.”
Before Anna reached the door, Rocky, the family’s dog, charged into the room and almost knocked Jessica down. The necklace went flying. It had barely hit the floor when Rocky bit it and raced off.
“Rocky! Rocky!” yelled Jessica. “Anna, help me get the necklace back.” The girls chased Rocky. “Stop!” they yelled. Rocky dashed down the stairs and into the living room. He stopped just long enough for the girls to get close, and then took off again. “Stop!” yelled Jessica. “Anna, you go the other way. We’ll comer him in the dining room.”
Jessica met Anna in the dining room. Sure enough, Rocky was there waiting for them. He was down low on his front legs with his tail in the air, ready to play. “Grab him!” screamed Jessica.
Jut as Anna was about to grab him, Rocky took off again. “Stop, you are a troublemaker!” yelled Jessica as she raced after him. The girls got close again, but Rocky zoomed down the basement (地下室) stairs. The girls raced after him. “I don’t see him.” said Anna. Jessica scratched her head, “He’s got to be down here.”
Just then, Mum called to the girls. “Jessica, what’s all the noise? What’s wrong? I heard you from the yard.” “Uh, oh,” whispered Jessica. “Uh… nothing is wrong,” she shouted back. Recently, I volunteered with Interact, my school's service group at Read 2 Me, an activity that gives volunteers the opportunity to read to little kids and interact with them.
I walked with other volunteers into a large room in which there was a large variety of books. Some were picture books, such as Cifford or The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Others were chapter books with pictures in them, such as the Berenstain Bears and The Wimpy Kid series. For the extremely talented kids who like to be challenged, we provided chapter books that required imagination to understand. Just after I had gathered some books together, someone announced that it was almost time for the activity to start. All at once, a burst of voices was heard. The doors opened, and the children rushed in, beginning to look for a reading buddy(伙伴). They all looked so eager to read, just like mice eager to taste a piece of cheese. I was sitting there waiting and glancing at the books that I had picked out for the lucky kid I would read them to.
Just then, a boy about six years old began to come my way, and I knew that I had found my reading buddy. "Hi, I'm Max. Would you like to be my reading buddy?" "Sure," I responded. And then, I let him search for a book of his choice.
"I like this one," shouted Max. I looked at the book that he had chosen. It told an adventure story of a little girl with her dog, and it seemed that it would be a good one to read to him.

【答案】
We were scared and worried. We had no way of contacting anyone, and we had no idea how long the storm would last. We decided to wait it out and hoped for the best. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the rain stopped. The sun came out, and we could see the blue sky. We quickly packed up our things and started our way back. The road was slippery and muddy, but we made it back to our campsite safely.
That night, as we sat around the fire, we reflected on our adventure. We realized that we had been through a lot, but we had also learned a valuable lesson. We had learned to be prepared for anything and to always expect the unexpected. Our camping trip turned out to be an unforgettable adventure.

【答案】
Then the gentleman took the initiative to break the silence and started talking to me. He asked about my day, his eyes kind and sincere. At first, I hesitated to share with a stranger, but his warm smile and the festive spirit in the air encouraged me to open up. I told him about my father, the struggles of my working, and the quiet Thanksgiving we were having at home. He listened attentively, comforting me occasionally with uplifting and loving words. After quite a while, the bus stopped. The man pulled himself up, glanced at his bag and then said to me, “I get off here. Hope you a happy Thanksgiving.” Feeling inspired, I waved him goodbye.
He was nearly off the bus when suddenly I found he forgot his shopping bag. Before the bus doors shut, I rushed to the doors and called out to him, “Wait! You forgot your bag!” “I left it for you. Keep it, girl!” he responded, still with a warm smile. Then the bus doors closed behind him, and the gentleman faded away from my sight. Shocked and delighted, I returned to my seat to take the shopping bag, carefully unfolding it. There lived a box of chocolate, a bright tiny music box and a brand-new scarf. Recognizing the kindness of the gentleman, I felt a sense of hope for life.

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was informed that I won the first prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.

【答案】
I cannot forget how tasty the dinner was. Staring at the meat, vegetables, and fish on my plate, I was so moved that tears started welling up in my eyes, rolling down on my face. I ate up all the food with indescribably bitter-sweet feelings. It was just like a Christmas gift from Heaven. To this day, I remember it as the most delicious dinner that I have ever had. Not only did the food satisfy my physical hunger, but also it deeply filled my spirit with genuine love.
Dai Mom was an angel to be my guardian. She came by my side, not for a day, not for a month, but for many years. She gave me the considerate love that a mother gave to her own child. She let me know what the true love is. How lucky I am! A small act of love can make a great difference. In particular, because of her, I have now become a person who can pass her love to others in need of help or support.

Paragraph 2: Month after month, Tracey desired to score her first basket in practice.

【答案】
The coach said he was afraid to have Tracey play the game after her first practice. Depressed and hesitant, I could imagine how worries danced in his head. But thinking of the excitement in Tracey’s eyes and the progress she had made these years, I couldn’t help trying to convince the coach that she could overcome her drawbacks with great efforts just as she did in tying the shoes herself, and the sheer joy was enough for her. After a few discussions and a little more encouragement, the coach decided to let her play. The following days witnessed her constant practice.
Month after month, Tracey desired to score her first basket in practice. Despite countless failures, she persevered, refusing to give up. With her great perseverance and amounts of encouragement from the teammates, she finally shot the basketball into the hoop for the first time, her eyes twinkling with great joy! So excited was everyone in the gym that they stopped and applauded her. It is from her that I have learned the importance of courage and determination, which I believe will always support her through tough times in life.

She looked up at me, her eyes filled with sadness and uncertainty. I began to speak, telling her how sorry I was for my actions and for not being more understanding.

【答案】
I felt it was time to bring up my childhood wish again, but this time, it had a deeper meaning. It wasn’t just about fulfilling my own desire but about giving my father a reason to hope. Hesitantly, I suggested we could adopt Bumpus. To my surprise, my father didn’t dismiss the idea outright. Instead, he sat quietly, considering the possibility. A few days later, he agreed to visit the rescue center with me. Seeing Bumpus struggle but still purring, my father’s heart melted. He agreed, and we brought Bumpus home, believing this brave creature might help heal our family. Once we got home, I began showing my father how to look after Bumpus.
In the following weeks, my father, as I had taught him, attentively looked after Bumpus at home. Bumpus began to regain his strength, his fur growing back and his eyes brightening noticeably. As Bumpus healed, my father transformed too. He started to smile more, finding joy in the moments they shared. The once gloomy atmosphere in our home lifted, replaced by laughter and warmth. Caring for Bumpus gave my father a renewed sense of purpose and a way to focus his energy on something meaningful. This mutual healing process brought our family closer, showing us the profound impact of love and perseverance.

It was Ms. Robbins!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Kelly watched her say “hello” to the girl in the bed nearest the door. Ms. Robbins was nice to everyone. She moved through the room, stopping at every bedside for a short exchange. Then she made her way to Kelly. She looked down at Kelly and smiled. A genuine smile, like the one Kelly had seen on the TV. Kelly could happily feel that Ms. Robbins didn’t care that she wasn’t pretty or laugh at her cast. Then Ms. Robbins reached out and lightly touched Kelly’s arm, saying, “What a pretty girl!”
Kelly could hardly believe her ears because almost nobody except her parents had ever called her that. Then she heard Ms. Robbins add, “Being strong-willed makes you prettier!” Ms. Robbins’ words really touched little Kelly. Kelly couldn’t know for sure whether Ms. Robbins changed the life of other children in the ward in the way that she changed Kelly. But she did know that by the time her cast came off, she reentered the world with a different mindset. She was no longer disturbed by the boys at school, not caring what those boys said about her. She became a confident and positive girl!

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
There was nobody around but the elderly lady. She hurried to him and bent down to check his injury. “God!” she gasped. “Don’t move. I’ll help you, son.” Looking at her kind face, Jack gradually lost consciousness. Having called an ambulance, the lady tended to his wounds carefully. Not until Jack came to and found himself and his belongings in an emergency room did he learn that the lady had contacted his family and quietly left. Overwhelmed by her virtue, Jack was desperate to find her. Fortunately, the rescue scene was wholly recorded by his camera. He posted the video online, requesting clues so that he could say thanks and sorry to her.
To Jack’s joy, a net friend sent a message saying where the lady lived. With gifts, Jack headed for the lady’s home. Answering the door, the lady was surprised but immediately got aware of what was going on. She gave Jack a hug, saying smilingly, “So glad to see you well, son.” “Sorry, I came for apologies. I behaved so rudely … and thanks for your help. Otherwise…” Jack choked, ashamed and grateful. “Treat others as you’d like to be treated. Everything will change for the better. I have faith in you,” she comforted the young man affectionately. The incident dramatically transformed Jack, who became helpful, friendly and popular.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Paragraph 2: Now I've had the most incredible and satisfying reporting career.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I called my father. And I told him about my dream of becoming a journalist. His initial reaction was surprise, then confusion, and finally, understanding. He said, “Remember, you were always more into the arts and writing than business. Perhaps Virginia DeView’s class was a sign of what you should truly pursue.” His words resonated with me, and I realized that I had been suppressing my true passion for years. I thanked him for his support and told him that I would pursue journalism with all my heart.
Now I've had the most incredible and satisfying reporting career. I’ve interviewed world leaders, uncovered major stories, and written articles that have changed people’s lives. I often think back to Virginia DeView’s class and how she inspired me to follow my dreams. I’m grateful to her for planting that seed in my young mind and helping me realize my potential. I've come to understand that a successful career is not just about making money or following trends, but about finding something that you’re truly passionate about and dedicating yourself to it. Virginia DeView’s class was the start of my journey to discovering my true calling, and I’m forever grateful to her for that.

Anna dashed upstairs. Jessica heard her telling Mum everything. “That is a blabber mouth (多嘴的人).” Jessica muttered under her breath.

“Jessica!” said Mum. “Up here right now.” Hurrying upstairs, Jessica could feel her blood rushing to her face. While she was struggling to find an excuse, Mum’s voice broke in. “Where is he now?” asked Mum, with arms crossed. Not daring to look into Mum’s eyes, Jessica just pointed to the basement as a reply. The three remained silent, wondering how to get the necklace back. Suddenly, an idea flashed across Jessica’s mind. She went straight to the kitchen counter and took some snacks. “I know what to do. Just come with me.” she smiled.
Jessica went into the basement with the snacks, Mum and Anna following. “Rocky,” called Jessica, “I’ve got a treat for you.” In no time, Rocky appeared at Jessica’s feet, with his tail swinging up and down. Just at that moment, Jessica grabbed his collar and pulled the necklace from his mouth. Handing the necklace to Mum, Jessica apologized, “Sorry, Mum. I shouldn’t have touched your stuff. I’m the troublemaker.” Jessica hung her head, overwhelmed with guilt, while Rocky was pushing Mom softly to pet him. “As long as you admit your fault,” said Mum gently, patting her girls and the little “troublemaker”.

Paragraph 2: Then came the after-reading activities in which we interacted with each other.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
"Can you tell me why you want this book?" I asked. "I like adventure stories and I like dogs," he answered. I was delighted with his answer, and at once, I started to read to him. The story was so attractive to Max. He listened with great interest, totally lost in what was described in the story. He thanked me when I finished reading to him, looking so happy for having got the chance to listen to the story.
Then came the after-reading activities in which we interacted with each other. "I wish I were the dog. Then I could go on an adventure," said Max as we were talking about the story. I laughed and encouraged him to come up with some different endings of the story, which all sounded pretty funny. In the end, we acted out the story together. You can imagine how happy he was. A book opens a door to a whole new world. That day, I helped Max open one, and I'm convinced that he will be able to open many more for himself in the future.
