The Torch Festival (火把节) is a traditional festival which is celebrated among some ethnic groups in southwestern China, such as the Yi, Bai, Hani, Lisu, and Lahu, etc. It usually falls on the 24th or 25th of June, with three days of celebrations. The festival came from worship (崇拜) of fire by ancestors (祖先). For some ethnic groups, it’s a tradition in the festival for elders to share farming experience with young people and educate them about taking care of crops.
During the festival, big torches are made to stand in all villages, with small torches placed in front of the door of each house. When night falls, the torches are lit and the villages are bright. At the same time, people walk around the fields and houses, holding small torches and placing the torches in the field corners. Inside the villages, young people are singing and dancing around the big torches that keep burning throughout the night. Other activities like horse races are also held during the festival.
In a horse race of the Yi people in Yunnan, torches are used to form hurdles for riders to get through. The Hani people in Yunnan traditionally tie fruits to torches with strings. When the strings are broken after the torches are lit, people struggle for the fruits for good luck.
For the Lisu people in Sichuan, the festival is an occasion for holding torch parades. Big torches are carried by teams of people, which is like a fire dragon. If different teams meet, it’s a tradition to exchange the big torches with one another.
4. What can we know about the Torch Festival from the first paragraph?
A. It has nothing to do with farming.
B. Its celebrations usually last two days.
C. It is a traditional festival of all China.
D. It is a festival to show worship of fire.
5. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. ancestors. B. young people.
C. elders. D. ethnic groups.
6. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. Why the festival is enjoyed. B. Where the festival is celebrated.
C. How the festival is celebrated. D. What torches are used for the festival.
7. Which is a way that Lisu people in Sichuan celebrate the festival according to the text?
A. Holding torch parades. B. Tying fruits to torches with strings.
C. Struggling for fruits for good luck. D. Using torches as hurdles for a horse race.

Several years ago, a worldwide heavy rain was predicted, but no one got prepared for what was to come. Then, some areas received over 100 mm of rain. Cars and trucks floated down the streets. Whole buildings were swept away. At least 225 people lost their lives, and millions became homeless.
The weather is always changing. Over the past few years, heavy rains have led to floods in many parts of the world. Droughts have taken place in Brazil and Australia. There have been heat waves in Europe which killed thousands. There have been more powerful hurricanes and tornadoes than ever before. In 2017 alone, the financial cost from global weather events was up to 340 billion dollars.
With more wild weather events happening people couldn’t help asking questions: What is happening with the weather? And why? Is this natural, or our fault? The answer seems to be: a little of both. Wild weather is natural. But most scientists hold the same view that human activity has made the Earth warmer. It is this global warming that makes heat waves more likely. The higher temperatures also result in more water going into the air, which causes heavier and more frequent rain. Many scientists also believe global warming makes hurricanes and other storms stronger.
This means we’re likely to see more wild weather. “But we don’t have to just stand there and accept it,” says scientist Michael. He and other experts say we need to stop the Earth from getting warmer. We also need to be prepared, to do things that will help save lives.
8. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. A past weather event happened in some areas in the world.
B. Some facts are listed about the global warming.
C. A number of recent weather events happened over the world.
D. Wild weather is partly the result of human activity.
9. How does paragraph two develop?
A. By giving a lot of examples of recent wild weather events.
B. By describing a serious flood that once happened.
C. By predicting how the weather will change in a few years.
D. By comparing the former wild weather with what happened now
10. What does scientist Michael’s words mean?
A. People can not do anything to prevent wild weather.
B. If people stop global warming the weather will be better.
C. It is too late to stop global warming.
D. People have to stand by and accept what will happen to us.
11. Where can you probably find the text?
A. In a tourist brochure B. In a research paper
C. In a science fiction D. In a nature magazine
D
What time it is varies depending on which of Earth’s time zones you are in. But what if you aren’t anywhere on Earth? Scientists from the European Space Agency (ESA), a group devoted to exploring the universe, are arguing that the Moon should have its own time zone too.
At the moment, missions to or involving the Moon use the time zone of the country that is operating the spacecraft. ESA argues that a specific time zone for the Moon would make it easier for space agencies from around the world to work together. Once missions make it to the Moon, having the same time zone would make it simpler for astronauts to communicate and travel across its surface.
Setting up a lunar (月球的) time zone is not easy. Gravity affects how quickly or slowly time passes. Since gravity is weaker on the Moon than it is on Earth, after 24 hours, a lunar clock would be 56 microseconds ahead of a clock on Earth. Another point to consider is that a full day on Earth is measured by the length of time between two sunsets, about 24 hours. On the Moon, the time between two sunsets is nearly 709 hours, which is about 29.5 Earth days. This means that lunar nights can be around two weeks long, with only the Earth and the stars, no sun, in the sky. With all this to think about, scientists need to decide whether it would be better to follow a time zone on Earth. or for the Moon to have its own unique zone. which would have much longer days.
NASA is planning to land humans on the Moon in 2025 with is Artemis Mission. There are also other unmanned missions to the Moon planned for later this year. Bernhard Hufenbach from ESA said that if a working time system for the Moon would be established. ESA could then perhaps make other planets in the solar system get ready for stage.
12. What would happen if a time zone is set up on the Moon?
A. Missions to or involving the Moon would be sped up.
B. Time spent on rocket launching would become shorter.
C. Cooperation among astronauts on the Moon would be easier.
D. Spacecraft operation among countries would become simpler.
13. Why is it difficult to set up a time zone on the Moon?
A. Clocks run slightly slower on the Moon.
B. Lunar nights last nearly one-month long.
C. No sun can be seen in the sky on the Moon.
D. A full day of the lunar time is much too long.
14. What would ESA do in the future according to Bernhard?
A. It would set up working time systems on other planets.
B. It would work with other countries to explore the space.
C. It would send more astronauts to planets in the solar system.
D. It would help NASA with other unmanned missions to the Moon.
15. In which part of a newspaper will you probably find the article?
A. Well-being B. Around the world C. Big news of today D. Science and technology

Mary had always been a lover of tales. Her imagination was rich, and she often found herself making up stories in her head. Yet, she never dared to share them with anyone, confined (受限) by her shy nature and a fear of public speaking. Life passed her by in a routine that left little room for self-expression, and her stories remained locked within the walls of her mind.
One day, an old friend invited Mary to attend a local storytelling workshop. Hesitantly, she agreed, hoping to find a way to break free from her shell. As she entered the place, she felt a mix of expectation and fear. What if she stumbled(磕绊) over her words? What if people laughed at her? Despite her anxiety, Mary took her seat among the other participants, each there for their own reason—some seeking a new hobby, others looking for personal growth.
The workshop facilitator(主持人), a charming woman named Evelyn, greeted them warmly. She spoke of the power of stories and the beauty of sharing one’s voice. As the hours went by, Mary learned techniques to build suspense(悬念), create lifelike characters, and tell a fascinating story. The other participants listened carefully, offering ideas and encouragement. For the first time in a long while, Mary felt seen and heard.
As the day drew to a close, Evelyn announced an upcoming storytelling competition. It would be held in a few weeks at, a local bookstore. To Mary’s surprise, she found herself volunteering to participate. The thought of standing onstage frightened her, but something within her longed for the challenge.

With more wild weather events happening, people couldn’t help asking questions: What is happening with the weather?
B By describing a serious flood that once happened.
C. By predicting how the weather will change in a few years.
D. By comparing the former wild weather with what happened now
10. What does scientist Michael’s words mean?
A. People can not do anything to prevent wild weather.
B. If people stop global warming, the weather will be better.
C. It is too late to stop global warming.
D. People have to stand by and accept what will happen to us.
11. Where can you probably find the text?
A. In a tourist brochure B. In a research paper
C. In a science fiction D. In a nature magazine
【答案】8. A 9. A 10. B 11. D

We also need to be prepared, to do things that will help save lives.(这意味着我们可能会看到更多的恶劣天气。“但我们不必只是站在那里接受它,”科学家迈克尔说。他和其他专家表示,我们需要阻止地球变暖。我们还需要做好准备,做一些有助于拯救生命的事情)”可知,迈克尔的话表明,全球变暖对气候有影响,如果人们阻止全球变暖,天气会更好。故选B。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“The weather is always changing.(天气总是在变化)”及第三段“With more wild weather events happening, people couldn’t help asking questions: What is happening with the weather? And why?
【答案】12. C 13. D 14. A 15. D

Once missions make it to the Moon, having the same time zone would make it simpler for astronauts to communicate and travel across its surface.
根据第三段中“Another point to consider is that a full day on Earth is measured by the length of time between two sunsets, about 24 hours. On the Moon, the time between two sunsets is nearly 709 hours, which is about 29.5 Earth days. (另外一个要考虑的是,地球上的一整天是以两次日落之间的时间长短来衡量的,大约24小时。在月球上,两次日落之间的时间接近709个小时,大约是29.5个地球日。)”可知,在月球上设置时区困难的原因是月球上一整天的时间太长了。故选D。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Bernhard Hufenbach from ESA said that if a working time system for the Moon would be established, ESA could then perhaps make other planets in the solar system get ready for stage.(欧洲航天局的Bernhard Hufenbach说,如果月球的工作时间系统能够建立起来,欧洲航天局或许就能让太阳系中的其他行星为此做好准备)”可知,Bernhard认为欧洲航天局将来会在其他行星上建立工作时间系统。故选A。

【答案】 Last Friday, our school organized a knowledge contest themed “Wildlife Protection”, which turned out to be a great success.
As scheduled, this contest kicked off at 3 p. m. in the school auditorium. To begin with, 12 participants went on stage in order, giving a brief introduction. After that, they took turns to answer the questions given by the host. The contestants who did not give the right answers in time were knocked out immediately. The whole contest climaxed with two finalists battling for five minutes until one spoke out the answer -Tibetan antelopes.
This activity received high praise, as not only did it provide a platform for students to show their good knowledge base, but it also raised their awareness of wildlife protection.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】From that Day on, Mary practiced day and night. She rehearsed her stories in front of the mirror, experimenting with different tones and gestures to bring her characters to life. Sometimes, she recorded herself and listened back. The more she practiced, the more she believed in herself, and the less she feared the upcoming competition. Her newfound confidence was evident to everyone around her, and her peers from the workshop, who had become a supportive circle of friends, cheered her on.
The big day came. Mary stepped on to the stage of the local bookstore and the sea of faces turned towards her expectantly. Taking a deep breath, she began to weave her tale, her voice at first hesitant but quickly gaining strength. As she immersed herself in the world of her story, the audience followed, their laughter echoing through the room, giving her the praise she had once only dreamed of. By the time she finished, the applause was thunderous, and Mary knew that not only had she overcome her fears, but she had also captured the hearts of everyone present.
