应用文参考范文
The Person I Admire
The person I admire most is my deskmate,an outgoing,warm-hearted boy with top grades.
He never looks down on others and remains modest even with excellent exam results.
I was poor at English and often upset.Whenever I struggled with grammar or words,he used
break time to explain patiently. He lent his helpful notes and told me to practice daily.Outside
studies,he cleans the classroom voluntarily and aids classmates in need.
He is my role model. With his help,my English improved greatly.I leamed to be patient,
modest and helpful.I wish I could be as outstanding as him someday.

I never imagined my pet cockatiel's death would turn me into a wildlife protector.I'm Lila.
Two years ago,my little bird Coco died suddenly.Staring at her empty cage,I noticed wild
native birds in my Texas neighborhood were disappearing rapidly.Wildfires had destroyed
most natural nesting sites in local woods, and plastic waste kept small birds from clean
drinking water.Grief (over Coco pushed me to launch my little conservation project.
At first,I worked alone with sawdust, planks and simple hand tools.Every Wednesday
after school,I built tiny bird boxes in the garage. My parents doubted my work could help.
They claimed handmade boxes by one teen could barely stop local sparrow numbers from
declining.I said nothing and kept building, sharing short workshop videos online to seek
volunteers.Gradually, classmates joined me,and we founded a group named Wings Back,
英语第4页(共12页)
whose core was rebuilding damaged habitats for wild birds
We put over 70 nesting boxes in city parks and ran plastic waste clean-ups along forest
streams.Last spring,a local newspaper reported our boxes had drawn over 20 breeding bird
families. We also received a small environmental grant (to buy bird feeders and native
wildflower seeds, which we grew to offer year-round natural food for birds.
Last month,I joined a regional youth eco-summit,where young activists shared local
protection stories. An Indian teen cleaned up polluted village ponds;a Spanish girl organized
coastal plastic clean-ups.I realized environmental work is never a one-person job.Teenagers
worldwide can combine small efforts to heal broken ecosystems.
Some now call me a young environmental hero, yet I refuse the title.I believe every
common student has the power to change their surroundings. You do not need costly equipment
or large donations to act-only a ready heart and steady small moves.
24.What directly drove Lila to carry out bird protection work?
A.A news report about wild bird reduction.
B.The death of her pet bird Coco.
C.Her parents'volunteer experience.
D.An online wildlife lecture.
25.What does the underlined word"core"in paragraph 2 most probably mean?

A.It mainly provides man-made nests for wild birds.

Seventeen-year-old American Mia Carter abandoned basketball due to its strict demands
on height and stamina. She used to bury herself in social media after school until her PE
teacher introduced pickleball(匹克球)last summer.“It allows players of all body types to
compete equally without fierce physical challenges,"Mia shared. Now she takes part in weekly
youth pickleball tournaments and feels fully accepted by teammates.
A 2026 global survey by the World Recreation Sports Federation covered 15,000 teens
aged 14-18 across Europe and North America.Teenage pickleball participation rose by 58%
in a year, while traditional sports like football only saw a 7%growth.Sport psychologist Dr.
Leo Henderson said,"conventional sports create mental barriers,as many teens fear being
laughed at for poor performance.Pickleball eases such stress with mild rules and mixed-age
matches."
Many coaches hold reservations. They argue pickleball lacks intense physical training and
building its courts will occupy limited campus space.Instead of ignoring these doubts, sports
organizers found solutions:communities offer shared courts on weekends, and PE teachers
combine running with pickleball drills to ensure enough exercise.
Canadian professional player Jake Torres runs teen training camps. He finds the sport
improves teens'social skills greatly.During doubles, constant communication helps shy kids
open up.His records show over 70%of quiet teens made new friends after three months'
training.
Pickleball's boom reflects a global shift in youth sports values.Young people now value
fairness, pleasure and friendship more than winning games. This trend will keep renewing
campus sports systems, providing friendly athletic choices for students of all physical levels.
28.Why did Mia Carter fall for pickleball?
A.It brings her many tournament awards.
B.It takes less spare time than other sports.
C.It helps her realize the dream of a pro athlete.
D.It suits teens without outstanding physical advantages.
29.What can we infer from the survey data in paragraph 2?
A.Traditional sports will disappear from high schools soon
B.Pickleball succeeds in drawing more teens into sports.
C.Most European teenagers refuse track and field training.
D.Competitive school sports no longer carry mental pressure.
英语第6页(共12页)
30.How do educators deal with coaches'worries about pickleball?
A.They cut down the time of pickleball classes at school
B.They build many exclusive pickleball courts on campus.
C.They adopt combined ways to fix exercise and space problems.
D.They stop promoting pickleball until new sports facilities are ready
31.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Pickleball:A Good Way for Teens to Make Friends
B.Schools Should Reduce Traditional PE Lessons
C.Physical Strength Is Unimportant in Modem Sports
D.Pickleball:A New Inclusive Sport Popular Among Global Teens

Every school year, millions of paper textbooks are abandoned and left unused, causing
massive paper waste across middle and high schools.A British environmental tech firm has
created a biodegradable(生物降解的)e-paper textbook specially designed for secondary
students.Unlike plastic-screen tablets with short lifespans, this lightweight device can be
erased and rewritten over 500 times without damage.A 2026 UK survey of 9,000 teens found
each student wasted about 12kg of textbook paper yearly.
Its eco-friendly ink comes from plant extracts (instead of toxic metal chemicals
used in traditional e-readers.After two years'use, users may bury the device in soil;all ink and
paper layers fully decompose within three months with no toxic waste left behind.Priced at 36
pounds,it costs less than a full set of printed textbooks for a whole grade.
Cambridge environmental expert Professor Mia Carter offered mixed opinions. She
admitted it greatly cut paper waste and carbon emissions, yet pointed out an obvious flaw(
)the plant ink cannot show vivid bright colours, making biology and art lessons dull. Her
team's trial showed students'study efficiency rose 13%in math and history but fell 8%for
image-focused subjects.
Over 20 London high schools ran a two-month trial among local teenagers.History
teachers welcomed the light e-paper for quick note-taking,while art students complained about
pale colours ruining drawing tasks. The firm quickly adjusted its ink formula with natural
colour pigments (and released a colour-improved edition for art classes.

The startup plans to partner with global textbook publishers to upload standard teaching
materials onto its digital system. Its chief designer said the product is meant to be a greener
alternative rather than a total replacement for printed books."Sustainable tech must meet
students'real learning demands instead of forcing flawed products on them,"she stated in an
online interview.
32.What can we learn about the e-paper textbook?
A.It targets young kids in primary schools
B.It has put an end to school paper waste.
C.It shares the same short life as plastic tablets.
D.It supports repeated use for hundreds of times.
33.What is the weak point of the original plant-based ink according to Professor Carter?
A.Its cost is far higher than ordinary printed textbooks.
B.It takes over half a year to break down in soil.
C.It fails to present clear colourful pictures for some subjects.
D.It reduces students'learning speed for math subjects.
34.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The company improved its product based on students'trial feedback.
B.All teachers hold positive attitudes toward the new e-textbooks.
C.Art students refuse to use e-paper for all school courses.
D.The trial proves the e-book works equally well for every subject.
35.What can we infer about the startup's future plan for the e-textbook?
A.They will stop producing printed textbooks for schools.
B.They aim to create eco-friendly learning tools suitable for students.
C.They plan to raise its price to develop more colourful ink
D.They will abandon cooperation with textbook publishers soon.

I still remember the day when I first touched the strings (of a Chinese guzheng. It
was a quiet evening in my childhood. My grandmother, who loves traditional Chinese music,
took out her old guzheng and sat next to me.When she softly played the strings, she created
gentle and pleasant musical notes. She smiled and said,"Today, let's start your journey with
this traditional Chinese instrument."
At first,I found it really hard.My fingers felt rigid (and clumsy on the strings,
and the songs I played were disorderly and incorrect, nothing like the wonderful music
Grandma made.My finger ends often tumed red and painful after practicing for a while, and I
even wanted to stop trying several times. However,Grandma never criticized me.She patiently
changed my finger movements and taught me basic playing methods. She also told me the
history of the guzheng and the feelings hidden in every traditional Chinese song.
As time went on,I went abroad for my high school education.Far away from home,I kept
the guzheng as my valuable partner.I set aside time to practice every weekend, losing myself
in the soft melodies of the instrument.Little by little,my playing skills got better.I
could play many traditional songs well, and my fingers moved freely on the strings.I also
loved this traditional instrument more deeply and felt the special warmth and rich cultural
beauty of Chinese traditional music in every note.
