They use sound to find what they eat, whom they play with, or which place they move towards. But the noise from human activities is increasingly troubling the lives of ocean animals. According to scientists, loud noise may increase mass strandings (大规模搁浅) of sea animals. Researchers recorded only five of these events in the first half of the 20th century. From 1950 to 2004, they recorded more than 1,200 mass strandings. These were perhaps because of the use of sonar (声呐) underwater. Another main reason of loud underwater noise is pile driving (打桩). Piles are supports for bridges, oil and gas-producing areas. They’re driven deep into the floor of the ocean. Driving a single pile can take several hours and result in as many as 5,000 hits. This process creates a lot of noise. To restrain that noise, some companies are making use of tiny bubbles (气泡). A single bubble is easily broken. However, the bubble wall can make pile driving quieter. The bubble wall is usually created in this way: A tube (管子) is placed in a ring around a pile. Air is then let out through closely spaced openings in the tube. When the bubbles rise, they act as a wall and take in some of the noise. Some more of the sound reflects back and becomes stuck inside the wall. Such bubble walls are really helpful. Other changes to pile driving can help as well. For example, people can take breaks while pile driving and let animals travel through. Our noise in the ocean is causing big problems. But small changes in our behaviors can make a big difference in animals’ lives in the world’s oceans. 27.What troubled the lives of ocean animals according to the text? A.The gas produced in the sea. B.The food polluted by humans. C.The noise from human activities. D.The bubble walls made by some companies. 28.Which word is close to the underlined word “restrain”? A.Control. B.Increase. C.Make. D.Begin. 29.What is the structure (结构) of the text? (P1=Paragraph 1...) A. B. C. D. 30.Which can be a proper title for the text? A.Know Why Ocean Noise Form B.Learn More about Sea Animals C.Call on People to Protect Animals D.Try to Make a Difference to the Ocean D Like detectives, archaeologists use evidence to solve mysteries. Detectives look for clues to solve crimes. Archaeologists look for clues to help them understand how people lived long ago. In fact, the word “archaeology” means “the study of ancient things”. One type of evidence used to learn about the past is pottery. People have used pottery for thousands of years all over the world. Old pottery is usually found in pieces called “potsherds”. Sometimes potsherds found in the same place can be put back together to recreate the original pot. Even in pieces, old pottery can teach us about the past. When examining pottery, archaeologists consider not only its appearance but what it was made of and how it was made. With this knowledge, they can get information about people’s lives in ancient times. ① Pottery is made by first adding water to a kind of soil called clay. When wet, clay can be formed into shapes. It is then heated. This hardens(使变硬) the clay and allows it to keep its shape. To make clay easier to shape and heat, potters(制陶工) use something called “temper”. Different materials can be used as temper. An archaeologist can tell where a pot came from by the types of clay and temper that were used. Sometimes a pot found in one location might have materials from another place. ② Some of the earliest pots were made quite simply. A piece of clay was hollowed(掏空) out and shaped into a bowl. It was then heated at a low temperature. The finished pot was rough(粗糙), and often undecorated. This type of pot might be used for cooking. ③ Later, coiled pots were made. These were made by first rolling the clay into a long snake shape. The coil was then wound(绕) in circles to form a pot. They were often decorated in different ways. These pots were heated at high temperatures. The higher the temperature, the harder and longer-lasting the pot. Further improvements in pottery-making developed in different times and places. ④ A pot’s shape and decoration can provide clues about the past. Painted pictures might show events from daily life or from ancient stories. Archaeologists know certain shapes and styles that were common in different times and places. Archaeologists study the differences in types of pottery closely. Because of their work, these daily objects can tell some of the mysteries of the past. 31.When examining pottery, archaeologists consider not only its appearance but what it was made of and how it was made. The word “examining” means “________” in English. A.studying B.displaying C.searching D.discovering 32.Why are the words “potsherds” and “temper” written in quotation marks(引号) in Paragraphs 2 and 3? A.To remind readers that both words are very useful. B.To make sure readers understand the words correctly. C.To show that these words come from other languages. D.To introduce the words that may be unknown to readers. 33.When is temper added to the clay? A.Before the clay is shaped. B.After the pot is heated. C.While the pot is being decorated. D.When the clay is hollowed. 34.We can put the sentence “This can provide clues about how people traded or travelled.” in Blank ________. A.① B.② C.③ D.④ 35.What is the main idea of this passage? A.People have used pottery for thousands of years all over the world. B.Pots are decorated with pictures that show events from ancient stories. C.Ancient pottery can tell about the lives of the people who made and used it. D.Archaeologists look for clues to solve mysteries in different times and places. (二)阅读短文,并从下面方框的六个句子中选择五个还原到文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。 Having a sleep is very important to people. 36 . Sleep gives your body a rest and allows it to prepare for the next day. It’s like giving your body a short vacation. Sleep also gives your brain a chance to sort (分类) things out. 37 , but they think that sleep might be the time when the brain sorts and stores information and solves problems. The time of sleep a person needs depends a lot on his or her age. Babies sleep a lot—about 14 to 15 hours a day! But many elderly people only need about 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night. Most kids between the ages of 5 and 12 need 10 to 11 hours of sleep. 38 . It depends on the kid. 39 . And he or she will also get angry easily. Without two nights of sleep, a person will have difficulty thinking and doing things. And his or her brain and body can’t do their normal tasks nearly as well. After five nights without sleep, a person will hallucinate, which means seeing things that aren’t there in fact. At last, it becomes impossible for the brain to give its directions to the rest of the body. We know that some people can’t fall asleep in a short time. Or some people wake during the sleep from time to time. 40 . For example, listen to relaxing music or have a bath before going to bed and try to get problems and worries out of your mind. If necessary, I think you can ask a doctor for help. In a word, the brain needs to spend time in bed so that it will keep everything well. A.Some kids might need more and some need less B.While you are asleep, your body temperature drops C.Just like eating, sleep is necessary if we want to survive D.If a person misses one night of sleep, he or she will become very tired E.Scientists aren’t exactly sure what your brain does while you are sleeping F.I think you can take the following advice when you can’t have a good sleep without,   have,   much,   deal with,   people It is not a surprise that people in the modern time are having far 41 stress than before. Huang Quande looked like this when tourists took photos with him on the Lijiang River in Guilin, Guangxi. He became so famous online that many believed the fisherman on the back of the 20-yuan renminbi banknote (纸币) was based on him. Sadly, Huang passed away at the age of 94 on Feb 18, 2023. Huang gave up fishing and became a photo model in 2008. He showed the true spirit of Lijiang River—being positive (积极的) and friendly. In his 90s, Huang could still move his boat with speed. The image of the fisherman on the back of the 20-yuan banknote is not just about one man. Instead, it is a cultural symbol of Guilin landscape (风景), commented Guangming Daily. In fact, the different backsides of the fifth series of renminbi banknotes show the most iconic (标志性的) landscapes in China. Each of them carries its own cultural value. For example, on the back of the5-yuan banknote is Mount Tai in Shandong. In ancient times, many emperors would go there and pray (祈祷) for the country. On the back of the 1-yuan banknote are the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon (三潭映月) in West Lake, Zhejiang. It is a great place for moon watchers during Mid-Autumn Festival. Because of the renminbi pictures, these places have attracted more tourists than before. Following the banknotes from 1 yuan to 100, Pan Jinyu from Chongqing had a “banknote tour” when he was 21. “I want to finish a ceremonial (有仪式感的) journey and feel the beauty of our country,” Pan told Chongqing Economic Times. 61.When did Huang Quande become a photo model? 62.What does the image of the fisherman stand for, according to Guangming Daily? 63.On which banknote is the picture of Mount Tai in Shandong? 64.What do the pictures on the banknotes bring to these places? 65.What do you think of these renminbi pictures?
