Scientists in the United States have developed a computer program that could provide an early warning of major (严重的) earthquakes. The new system is designed to give a warning seconds before an earthquake happens.
That may not sound like very long. However, it could give people time to get under a table. The flow of electric power (电流) or gas could be cut. Air traffic controllers could warn away pilots. Even so-called “smart buildings” could be designed to get ready.
Richard Allen of the University of Wisconsin and Hiroo Kananmori of the California Institute of Technology developed the program. They call it the Earthquake Alarm System. A report published in Science magazine describes it.
The system uses a mathematical (数学的) program to measure (测量) information collected by instruments placed across the Los Angeles area. Southern California already has more than 150 stations that measure movements within the ground. The information they collect is sent to a high-speed computer.
The new system is designed to estimate (估测) the strength of the earthquake once the shaking starts. Areas directly above the center of the earthquake would have the least warning. Farther places might have as long as forty seconds.
Professor Allen notes that an early warning system for earthquakes would require a high quality of public education. Then, another problem is the possibility of false (假的) alarms.
33.When an earthquake comes, the new alarm system would give people enough time to ________.
A.find shelter (庇护所) in “smart buildings” B.tell pilots to land the airplanes
C.know the strength of the earthquake D.turn off gas and electricity

C.is especially useful for areas directly above center of the earthquake
D.gives warning at least forty seconds before the earthquake starts
35.The new alarm system may be described as ________.
A.a program that analyzes data (分析数据) across the United States
B.a network of instruments placed across the United States
C.a program to collect information from 150 different stations
D.a very powerful computer that can do mathematical (数学运算) problems
36.The writer of this passage has most probably used information from ________.

During the 2025 Spring Festival, Ne Zha 2, whose box office made more than 4 billion yuan by February 3rd, became China’s most popular movie. It beat famous films like YOLO and The Wandering Earth 2. The director of The Wandering Earth 2 even shared a poster to celebrate its success, showing China’s animation (动画片) industry is growing fast.
The success of the film changed how cinemas worked in the whole country. To meet the big need, theaters had 1,000-seat screening halls for the first time. Some theaters had nearly 100 shows every day. Tickets sold out quickly both on the Internet and at ticket offices. At the same time, things with characters like Shen Gongbao and Shi Ji Niangniang were sold out. Limited-edition blind boxes were gone in a few hours. This showed the film is very popular.
Based on Chinese mythology (神话故事), Ne Zha 2 tells old stories in a new way. Magical places, legendary weapons, and famous characters like Ao Bing are in the story. It makes young people like it a lot. The main idea of the film— “fighting against fate”—makes teenagers who have pressure from school, family or society feel good. “It’s not only about gods and demons. It’s about how we should fight for our future,” A college student said.
The film also looks at new relationships between characters. Ne Zha and Ao Bing were enemies before, but now they have competition and friendship. Ne Zha 2 makes a new standard for Chinese animation. It has more than 1,900 carefully made special effect shots. Scenes like the flaming lotus flower fighting with water dragons make people surprised. It shows that Chinese animation can be as good as global big companies like Disney or Studio Ghibli.
Beyond box office success, Ne Zha 2 bridges ancient culture and modern creativity. By mixing cultural pride with advanced technology, it inspires a new generation to value tradition while embracing innovation (创新). The spirit of Ne Zha—a “little devil challenging old rules”—not only entertains but encourages young people to think critically and pursue their dreams.
37.How did theaters deal with the high demand for Ne Zha 2?
A.By limiting online ticket sales.
B.By reducing ticket prices.
C.By closing smaller cinemas.
D.By building 1,000-seat halls and increasing daily shows.

A.It is still far behind global companies like Disney.
B.It is only popular in China.
C.It can compete with global animation standards.
D.It focuses only on traditional stories without innovation.
39.What does the article say about the special effects in Ne Zha 2?
A.They were simple and unimpressive.
B.They were copied from Disney films.
C.They were not important to the film’s success.
D.They set a new standard for Chinese animation with over 1,900 carefully made shots.
40.What is the main theme of Ne Zha 2 that resonates (共鸣) with teenagers?

七、任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Do you have a goal you want to achieve before your next birthday? Or by the end of the next five years, perhaps? We often hear about the importance of setting goals. We may think of these goals as the key to our happiness—achieve them and everything will be perfect. But have you ever reached a goal and instead of feeling happy, you've thought, “Is that it?” Or, “Now what?”
That feeling has a name. It’s called “arrival fallacy”—the illusion (错误的观念) that reaching our goals will bring us lasting happiness.
Whether it’s a new job, owning your dream home or anything else—there might be some initial (最初的) joy, but if you’re experiencing arrival fallacy, that may be followed by emptiness (空虚) and under stress to achieve something new.
So why does this happen? Surely achieving our goals is enough to make us happy? Not always. According to experts, we might be overestimating (高估) the happiness that such achievements will bring
And social scientist Adam Dorr says we often make the mistake of imagining our goal as a fixed object, when really it’s just part of life. But Ben Shahar adds that arrival fallacy doesn’t mean we shouldn’t set goals—in fact, we need them to help give our lives focus.
As well as large things, our goals should include many small things, like helping out more around the house or spending more time with family—small but important goals that don’t just “end”. If we really want to beat arrival fallacy, we also have to work out what makes us happy. And in surveys, spending quality time with people we care about is often number one for happiness.
Even if we do have clear career goals, experts remind us to think about enjoying the journey too—and not just the destination (目的地).
66.What is “arrival fallacy”?
67.How might someone feel after reaching a goal if they experience “arrival fallacy”?
68.Why do we have the feeling “arrival fallacy”?
69.What does social scientist Adam Dorr suggest about the nature of goals?
70.What will you do to beat “arrival fallacy”? (请自拟一句话作答)
【答案】66.(It is) the illusion that reaching our goals will bring us lasting happiness. 67.(He/She might feel) empty and stressed (to achieve something new). 68.We might be overestimating the happiness that such achievements will bring. 69.It’s just part of life. 70.We can set small but important goals that don’t just “end”./We should enjoy the journey too—and not just the destination. (Any reasonable answer can be accepted))
【导语】本文主要向我们介绍了“arrival fallacy”,这是一种错误的观念,认为达到目标就会给我们带来持久幸福的错觉。文章介绍了为什么有这种感觉以及如何解决。
66.根据“the illusion (错误的观念) that reaching our goals will bring us lasting happiness.”可知,这是一个错误观念,以为达到目标就能给我们带来持久的幸福。故填(It is) the illusion that reaching our goals will bring us lasting happiness.
67.根据“Whether it’s a new job, owning your dream home or anything else—there might be some initial (最初的) joy, but if you’re experiencing arrival fallacy, that may be followed by emptiness (空虚) and under stress to achieve something new.”可知,如果人们经历了这种错误的观念,他们在达到目标后会感觉空虚和压力,以实现新的东西。故填(He/She might feel) empty and stressed (to achieve something new).
68.根据“According to experts, we might be overestimating (高估) the happiness that such achievements will bring”可知,是因为我们可能高估了这些成就将带来的快乐。故填We might be overestimating the happiness that such achievements will bring.
69.根据“And social scientist Adam Dorr says we often make the mistake of imagining our goal as a fixed object, when really it’s just part of life.”可知,他指出目标的本质只是生活的一部分。故填It’s just part of life.
70.开放性作答,言之有理即可。参考答案为We can set small but important goals that don’t just “end”./We should enjoy the journey too—and not just the destination. (Any reasonable answer can be accepted))

There are a lot of advantages of longer school breaks for students. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
School Breaks Are Longer
There are a lot of advantages of longer school breaks for students. First, longer breaks are good for students’ health. Students have more time to go outside, breathe fresh air and do physical activities. Second, longer breaks are also good for learning. After a good rest, students can focus better in class.
During the 15-minute breaks, we have lots of choices to relax ourselves. I often go to the playground to play badminton or jump rope with my friends. Sometimes, I simply take a walk around the schoolyard. These activities not only refresh my mind but also make me feel more energetic for the next class.

36.The writer of this passage has most probably used information from ________.
A.a meeting held at the California Institute of Technology
B.an interview with Professor Richard Allen
C.a report published in the Science magazine
D.an announcement made by a group of scientists

The world is changing very fast. Scientific technologies are now influencing a 56 every field of life. A scientist once said that success in developing scientific technologies would be one of the biggest events in human history, but he thought some of them might also be the last unless we learn to avoid the risks. For m 57 society, scientific technologies are amazing but humans may face a lot of challenges.
Will humans be controlled by scientific technologies in the future? Some people say “Yes”. They think humans will be under control completely. I 58 computers are implanted (植入) inside our head, things will be much worse. With the d 59 of technologies, robots have taken the place of humans in some fields and it may make some people l 60 their jobs. What’s more, data centres need a large amount of energy to run. At the same time, it produces so much h 61 all the time that a great deal of water is used for cooling. All these may be the risks the scientist worried about.
However, other people don’t a 62 . They are hopeful about the relationship between technologies and humans. They say that technologies have done much for us and made our daily lives easier. They can free people from doing housework, writing passages or e 63 making films. For example, some technologies can change words into short videos easily and make it p 64 for some common people to be directors.
Every coin has two sides. Rather than worrying about the risks of scientific technologies, we should learn to use them in a w 65 way and manage them well.

(请自拟一句话作答)

(请自拟一句话作答)
