Chloe Dalton was taking a winter walk near her farmhouse when she encountered it: a tiny baby hare (野兔) lying curled (蜷缩) up and alone in the middle of a narrow country path.
Dalton knew nothing about hares. Yet when she found that the hare hadn’t moved for hours, she decided to take it home and try to save it — despite her fears that by interfering (干扰) she might hurt its ability to return to the wild.
Her journey, detailed in her memoir Raising Hare, became an unexpected experiment in coexistence. The book is part of a timely category: true stories about people who open a window into the natural world through intense observation of one wild animal or species, often in their own backyard.
It’s fascinating to learn along with Dalton as she looks for information about hares. She searches in books but finds little that’s helpful. She’s led to believe that the hare will remain distant; instead, it comes to feel comfortable, jumping around with her and curling up against her while it sleeps. Yet it also leaves for long stretches beyond her garden wall, returning on its own unpredictable timetable.
Dalton has to trust her instincts (直觉). Dalton treated it with respect, refusing to name it or treat it as a pet, and gave it full freedom in her home and garden.
She describes the hare’s evolving behavior and body in painterly detail. She notes changes in herself, too, as she adapts to a slower, simpler life. She begins to pay more attention to her wider natural surroundings. She notices natural enemies, and watches the other hares beyond her wall.
Raising Hare is an appeal for people to be gentler with other creatures, to allow other creatures the freedom to live naturally.
4. What can be learned about Dalton from the first two paragraphs?
A. She enjoyed outdoor activities. B. She showed sympathy for the hare.
C. She was an expert in wildlife rescue. D. She ensured the hare returned to the wild.
5. How did Dalton raise the hare?
A. Figuring out its daily timetable. B. Maintaining a certain distance from it.
C. Training it to obey different commands. D. Allowing it complete access to her home.
6 What change did the experience bring to Dalton?
A. Reduced fear of hares. B. Increased interest in nature.
C. Adoption of more animals. D. Adaptation to a healthy life.
7. What did the author want to convey by "Raising Hare"?
A. The call for respect for nature. B. The importance of wildlife observation.
C. The necessity of writing a memoir. D. The challenges of raising wild animals.
B 5. D 6. B 7. A

It’s the number we all want to know: the magic number on the scale (秤) that would make us look great and keep us healthy. Often, we set goals based on feelings or consult charts and formulas (公式) to calculate that number. Unfortunately, none of these methods on its own can offer a number that’s healthy and possible to attain and maintain. So how can we determine our “best” weight? It’s more complicated and simpler than we think.
Formulas for determining a healthy weight range can easily be found online. For decades, we’ve been told that Body Mass Index (BMI) is the standard. To calculate BMI, we plug in our height and weight, and then a formula generates a number that falls on a scale from underweight to healthy to overweight to obese, based on an estimated percentage of body fat.
Simple, right? Too simple. And so the latest thinking is that we need to consider more than this number. One problem with BMI is that the chart lists the same healthy or unhealthy weight range for men and women, and for older and younger adults.
More recently, some doctors have begun using the BRI, or body roundness index, which focuses on waist circumference (周长) instead of weight. The thinking behind this chart is that where we pile up fat can be even more important than how much we weigh. Extra fat surrounds the-abdominal (腹部) organs, leading to a higher risk of heart disease and other conditions. Again, though, there are caveats. Different health conditions can affect abdominal size.
“I wouldn’t use this chart to supply a number of what someone should weigh,” says Dr. Jay. "How are they feeling, how are they doing? What’s their blood pressure, blood sugar? How well are they sleeping? All these need to be considered."
So What’s Our Ideal Weight? Confused? It’s hard not to be. The best weight is one we can comfortably maintain by eating as healthy as possible and exercising. Dr. Freedhoff says, “Whatever weight the Body settles at and maintains when we live this way is the best weight for us.”
8. What is the function of paragraph 1?
A. To give: a. definition of “best” weight.
B. To illustrate the anxiety of body image.
C. To introduce methods of weight calculation.
D. To expose misleading ideal weight determination.
9. How is BRI different from BMI?
A. BRI considers health risks. B. BRI provides separate ranges.
C. BRI uses a simpler calculation. D. BRI involves weight and height.
10. What does the underlined word “caveats” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Warnings. B. Insights.
C. Requirements. D. Accidents.
11. What does Dr. Freedhoff suggest?
A. Shifting eating habits. B. Laying trust on the BRI.
C. Following sustainable routines. D. Applying charts and formulas.
D 9. A 10. A 11. C
根据第一段中“Often, we set goals based on feelings or consult charts and formulas (公式) to calculate that number. Unfortunately, none of these methods on its own can offer a number that’s healthy and possible to attain and maintain. (通常,我们根据感觉设定目标,或者参考图表和公式来计算那个数字。不幸的是,这些方法中没有一种能够单独提供一个健康的、可以达到并维持的数字。)”可知,第1段的作用是指出我们常用的确定理想体重的方法存在误导性。故选D。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“To calculate BMI, we plug in our height and weight, and then a formula generates a number that falls on a scale from underweight to healthy to overweight to obese, based on an estimated percentage of body fat. (为了计算身体质量指数,我们输入身高和体重,然后一个公式会根据估计的体脂百分比生成一个数字,这个数字落在从体重不足到健康到超重再到肥胖的范围内。)”以及第四段中“More recently, some doctors have begun using the BRI, or body roundness index, which focuses on waist circumference (周长) instead of weight. The thinking behind this chart is that where we pile up fat can be even more important than how much we weigh. Extra fat surrounds the abdominal (腹部) organs, leading to a higher risk of heart disease and other conditions. (最近,一些医生开始使用身体圆度指数(BRI),它关注的是腰围而不是体重。这个图表背后的理念是,我们堆积脂肪的位置甚至比我们的体重更重要。多余的脂肪围绕着腹部器官,导致患心脏病和其他疾病的风险更高。)”可知,BRI与BMI不同在于BRI考虑了健康风险。故选A。
根据第四段中“Again, though, there are caveats. Different health conditions can affect abdominal size. (不过,这里也有一些caveats。不同的健康状况会影响腹部大小。)”可知,这里是说BRI这种方法也存在一些需要注意的地方,caveats意思应该是“警告,提醒注意的地方”,与Warnings意思相符。故选A。
根据最后一段中“The best weight is one we can comfortably maintain by eating as healthy as possible and exercising. Dr. Freedhoff says, “Whatever weight the Body settles at and maintains when we live this way is the best weight for us.” (理想的体重是我们通过尽可能健康地饮食和锻炼,能够舒适维持的体重。弗里德霍夫医生说:“当我们以这种方式生活时,身体稳定并保持的任何体重对我们来说都是最佳体重。”)”可知,这里“这种方式”指的是前面提到的“通过尽可能健康的饮食和锻炼”,也就是遵循可持续的生活方式。故选 C。
D
Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical (刻板印象的) themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work.
The researchers tracked 4 million works published on the website by the artists. The artists self-divided into two groups: those who continued to work using traditional methods — a sort of control group, and those who adopted AI. The latter group, numbering about 5,800, were identified by the use of tags (标签) on their work, such as “AI-generated” or the names of the AI tools. Works posted into AI art communities on the site were also included.
Artists who adopted AI tools saw their productivity measured by the number of works posted increase by 25 percent over the study period. They also saw a 50 percent rise in the number of “favourites” their work received over six months. But novelty, measured by the subject matter and specific details of the work, decreased for the AI-using group.
“The study completely tracks with my own experience with these tools and spaces,” says Andres Guadamuz at the University of Sussex, UK. “At first, it felt that you could do anything, bring anything in your head into existence, but the more I used them, the more I kept coming back to themes I liked.”
Guadamuz points out that he isn’t judging the quality of the images produced by generative AI nor their originality, nor the creativity involved in the process. All these things are often hotly contested, with some artists saying that generative AI is using their works as training data and limiting their ability to be recognized as creatives.
Zhou at Boston University is also considering these questions. He says, “The generative technology accelerates the ability to produce. But it raises other issues: Are we foregoing the process of understanding what goes into being creative and producing something meaningful, in favour of just being able to brute force our way with technology?”
12. What do we know about the artworks created by AI according to paragraph 1?
A. They are abundant but less creative. B. They are generative but less popular.
C. They balance popularity with artistic depth. D. They attract viewers with the trendy subjects.
13. How was the study conducted?
A. By surveying artists’ opinions on AI tools using.
B. By analyzing suggestions on generative AI works.
C. By comparing artworks with different AI involvement.
D. By observing the process of AI-assisted artistic creation.
14. What can be inferred from Guadamuz’s statement?
A. AI tools help artists explore new creative styles.
B AI users receive more recognition for their creativity.
C. Artists believe AI improves the quality of their artworks.
D. Artists may repeat themes they like when using AI tools.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Unstoppable Rise of AI Artworks. B. The Breakthrough of AI in Artistic Creation.
C. The Role of AI in Artistic Productivity. D. The Double-Edged Sword of AI in Artworks.
A 13. C 14. D 15. D

根据第一段“Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical (刻板印象的) themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work.(一项涉及 5 万多名用户向一个流行的艺术分享网站提交作品的研究表明,使用人工智能创作艺术作品可以提高艺术家的创作效率,并引发更多积极的反应。但生成式人工智能作品更有可能展示刻板印象的主题,降低了艺术家作品的新颖性)”可知,人工智能创作的艺术作品数量增多(提高了创作效率),但由于展示刻板印象的主题,所以创造性有所降低。故选A。
根据第二段“The researchers tracked 4 million works published on the website by the artists. The artists self-divided into two groups: those who continued to work using traditional methods — a sort of control group, and those who adopted AI. The latter group, numbering about 5,800, were identified by the use of tags (标签) on their work, such as “AI-generated” or the names of the AI tools. Works posted into AI art communities on the site were also included.(研究人员追踪了艺术家们在该网站上发布的 400 万件作品。
根据第四段中的““The study completely tracks with my own experience with these tools and spaces,” says Andres Guadamuz at the University of Sussex, UK. “At first, it felt that you could do anything, bring anything in your head into existence, but the more I used them, the more I kept coming back to themes I liked.”(英国苏塞克斯大学的安德烈斯・瓜达穆兹说:“这项研究与我自己使用这些工具和创作空间的经历完全相符。一开始,感觉你可以做任何事情,把你脑海中的任何东西都变成现实,但我使用得越多,就越会回到我喜欢的主题上。”)”可知,从瓜达穆兹的话中可以推断出,艺术家在使用人工智能工具时可能会重复他们喜欢的主题。故选D。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical (刻板印象的) themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work.(一项涉及 5 万多名用户向一个流行的艺术分享网站提交作品的研究表明,使用人工智能创作艺术作品可以提高艺术家的创作效率,并引发更多积极的反应。但生成式人工智能作品更有可能展示刻板印象的主题,降低了艺术家作品的新颖性)”可知,文章既提到了人工智能在艺术创作中能提高创作效率和受欢迎程度的积极作用,也指出了它会降低作品新颖性的消极影响,体现了人工智能在艺术创作中的利和弊,所以题目“人工智能在艺术作品中的双刃剑”概括了文章的主题,适合作为最佳标题。故选D。

The Sign of the Cat
“Chet, pass the fried chicken to our guests,” Grandma said.
My eyes were fixed on the chicken. I knew that after our “guests” took their share, only small parts of the chicken would be left. Guests like these men knocked on our door almost every day, asking for food. They were out of work. Everyone called them “askers” (乞食者), but not Grandma. She would remind me, “If your dad hadn’t gotten the job at Uncle Will’s shop in Florida, he could be in the same situation.”
Not my dad! He could never be untidy like that. I thought of Dad then. He had been away from home for months and sent little money lately. The days were getting even tougher for Grandma and me. We had to trade eggs and milk for flour and sugar.
After the meal, Ray, one of the regular askers, waved me over. He reached into his pocket and carefully pulled out a small wooden figurine — a cat. “This is for you,” he said, placing it in my hand. “I made it because of the sign of the cat on your gatepost (门柱). It means the homeowner is always willing to help those in need. People like you are why we survive.”
His words hit me. That’s why so many askers knocked on our door! An idea flashed in my head. After they left, I checked the gatepost. A tiny cat drawn in black coal stared at me. I scrubbed (擦洗) it off.
That evening, no one came knocking at the door, just Grandma and me sharing a quiet meal. I ate my fill, content and satisfied. I stuffed myself with sliced ham and buttermilk com bread, trying not to think about askers going hungry.

“After losing my job,” Dad said, “the cat signs along the way got me home.”
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At night, I couldn’t fall asleep, thinking about what I did. The wooden cat Ray had given me lay on my pillow, its smooth surface cold under my fingers. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his face — the gratitude in his eyes when he’d handed it over. “The sign means kindness,” he’d said. But I’d scrubbed it away because I was selfish, afraid we’d run out of food. What if the askers who came tomorrow were truly hungry? What if the cat sign wasn’t just a mark, but a promise we’d broken? I tossed and turned until dawn, when I finally decided: I’d fix my mistake.
“After losing my job,” Dad said, “the cat signs along the way got me home.” I froze mid-step, my hand still holding the chalk. Dad’s voice had come from the kitchen, where he and Grandma were brewing coffee. “I walked for weeks, begging at doors that stayed shut,” he continued. “But then I saw a cat carved on a gatepost. The family inside gave me bread and a place to sleep. That’s when I knew I’d make it back to you.” My throat tightened. The cat sign hadn’t just helped others —it had saved my dad. I ran to the gatepost, chalk flying as I redrew the cat, bigger and prouder than before. This time, I’d keep the promise.

Chloe Dalton was taking a winter walk near her farmhouse when she encountered it: a tiny baby hare (野兔) lying curled (蜷缩) up and alone in the middle of a narrow country path.
Dalton knew nothing about hares. Yet when she found that the hare hadn’t moved for hours she decided to take it home and try to save it — despite her fears that by interfering (干扰) she might hurt its ability to return to the wild.
6. What change did the experience bring to Dalton?

Guadamuz points out that he isn’t judging the quality of the images produced by generative AI nor their originality nor the creativity involved in the process.
12 What do we know about the artworks created by AI according to paragraph 1?
B. AI users receive more recognition for their creativity.

After they left I checked the gatepost.
