29-year-old Dim Nang Lao is a mother of a six-year-old boy in a mountainous and remote region in northeastern Cambodia. Like many other parents in her village who marry and have children at a young age, she used to have little knowledge about how she should look after her child to ensure he can grow healthy and strong and reach his full potential.
But everything changed when she received Nurturing Care Parenting training from village volunteers. Nurturing Care Parenting aims to help every child get the best possible start in life, including through healthcare, early education and play. It also helps parents avoid violence or punishment to discipline their children.
“I learned a lot from Nurturing Care Parenting,” Dim Nang Lao says. “I learned how to care for my child’s health, nutrition and education. I learned how to talk to him when he is wrong and comfort him when he is sad. I learned that a child is a white paper. If I hit him, he will learn those actions from me.”
Dim Nang Lao is one of many who have benefited from the training. According to a local official named Ang Chenda, the training has reached five villages and has improved the lives of many families. She says she welcomes the training as many parents in the area did not fully understand what they needed to do to fully support their children’s needs and development and often spent most of their time earning an income through farm work.
“After the training, their understanding of raising young children is far different,” Ang Chenda says. “They are more aware of the importance of caring for their children. They take their children to the health center for check-ups, issue birth certificates for their children and send their children to school. They also reduce violence and use positive discipline instead.”
Dim Nang Lao says she is grateful for the opportunity to learn about positive parenting and apply it in her daily life. “I hope that more parents in our country can receive this training and benefit from it as I do,” she adds.

根据文章第一段“Like many other parents in her village who marry and have children at a young age, she used to have little knowledge about how she should look after her child to ensure he can grow healthy and strong and reach his full potential. (和她所在村庄的许多其他年轻时就结婚生子的父母一样,她过去几乎不知道该如何照顾自己的孩子,以确保他能够健康茁壮地成长并充分发挥自己的潜力。)”可知,像Dim Nang Lao一样,村里许多年轻时就结婚生子的父母过去几乎不知道该如何照顾孩子,以确保孩子能健康茁壮地成长并充分发挥潜力。故选D。
42.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Nurturing Care Parenting aims to help every child get the best possible start in life, including through healthcare, early education and play. It also helps parents avoid violence or punishment to discipline their children. (“养育关怀式育儿”旨在帮助每个孩子在人生中获得尽可能好的开端,包括通过医疗保健、早期教育和游戏等方面来实现。它还帮助父母避免使用暴力或惩罚手段来管教孩子。)”可知,“养育关怀式育儿”培训旨在帮助每个孩子在生活中获得尽可能好的开端,包括通过医疗保健、早期教育和游戏等方面,同时也帮助父母避免使用暴力或惩罚手段来管教孩子。故选B。
43.细节理解题。根据文章第三段““I learned a lot from Nurturing Care Parenting,” Dim Nang Lao says. “I learned how to care for my child’s health, nutrition and education. I learned how to talk to him when he is wrong and comfort him when he is sad. I learned that a child is a white paper. If I hit him, he will learn those actions from me.”
根据文章第四段“According to a local official named Ang Chenda, the training has reached five villages and has improved the lives of many families. She says she welcomes the training as many parents in the area did not fully understand what they needed to do to fully support their children’s needs and development and often spent most of their time earning an income through farm work. (据一位名叫Ang Chenda的当地官员称,这项培训已经覆盖了五个村庄,并改善了许多家庭的生活。她表示,她很欢迎这项培训,因为该地区的许多父母并不完全清楚他们需要做些什么来充分满足孩子的需求和促进孩子的发展,而且他们常常把大部分时间花在农活上以赚取收入。)”以及第五段““After the training, their understanding of raising young children is far different,” Ang Chenda says. “They are more aware of the importance of caring for their children. They take their children to the health center for check-ups, issue birth certificates for their children and send their children to school. They also reduce violence and use positive discipline instead.” 故选A。
根据文章最后一段“Dim Nang Lao says she is grateful for the opportunity to learn about positive parenting and apply it in her daily life. “I hope that more parents in our country can receive this training and benefit from it as I do,” she adds. (Dim Nang Lao说,她很感激有机会学习积极的育儿方法,并将其应用到日常生活中。“我希望我们国家更多的父母能够接受这种培训,并像我一样从中受益。”她补充道。)”可知,Dim Nang Lao很感激有机会学习积极的育儿方法并应用到日常生活中,她希望自己国家更多的父母能接受这种培训并像她一样从中受益。也就是说,Dim Nang Lao对“养育关怀式育儿”培训的期望是它将被广泛接受。故选B。

Teen brains aged faster than normal from stress by at least three years, a study has found. The study, published in Biological Psychiatry: Global Open Science, was the first to compare examinations of the physical structures of teenagers’ brains from before and after the stress started, and to document significant differences.
Researchers knew teens had higher levels of depression, anxiety and fearfulness than before the stress. But we knew nothing about the effects on their brains. The researchers found growth in brain areas that control access to some memories and help control fear, stress and other emotions.
Premature (过早的) aging of kids’ brains isn’t a positive development. Their stressful childhood experiences not only make people easier to suffer from depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses, but they can raise the risk of cancer, heart disease and other long-term negative outcomes.
The scientists tried to make out how the stress itself may have impacted the physical structure of the children’s brains and their mental health. They matched pairs of children with the same age, gender and stress. “That allowed us to compare 16-year-olds before the stress with different 16-year-olds assessed after the stress,” said Ian Gotlib, a psychology professor at Stanford University.
To determine the brain age of their samples, the researchers fed their brain examinations into a machine-learning model for predicting brain age developed by the ENIGMA-Brain Age working group, a co-operation among scientists who share their brain image data sets. They also appraised mental health outcomes reported by the matched pairs. They found more severe symptoms of anxiety, depression and internalizing (内在化的) problems in the group that had experienced the stress.
Dan Siegel, clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, noted that many individuals experience post-traumatic (创伤后的) growth after a stressful experience. “This is a useful initial study,” agreed David Fassler, clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Vermont. “I expect the results will inform the design of future research initiatives.”
46.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A.Researchers had a good knowledge of aging.
B.Stress greatly influenced teenagers’ brains.
C.Brain growth improved teenagers’ happiness.
D.Bad memories resulted in negative emotions.
47.What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A.The positive development of teenage brains.
B.The stressful childhood experience of teenagers.
C.The impact of premature aging of kids’ brains.
D.The mental illness that teenagers suffer.
48.Why was the machine-learning model developed?
A.To satisfy the need of the market.
B.To analyze the brain age of samples.
C.To predict mental health outcomes.
D.To solve internalizing problems.
49.What’s probably the meaning of the underlined word in paragraph 5?
A.behaved B.complained C.objected D.evaluated
50.What was David Fassler’s attitude to the study?
A.Favorable. B.Indifferent. C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
【答案】46.B 47.C 48.B 49.D 50.A
根据第一段 “Teen brains aged faster than normal from stress by at least three years, a study has found. (一项研究发现,青少年的大脑因压力而比正常情况至少提前三年老化。)”以及第二段“The researchers found growth in brain areas that control access to some memories and help control fear, stress and other emotions. (研究人员发现,控制某些记忆的访问并有助于控制恐惧、压力和其他情绪的大脑区域有所增长。)”可知,压力对青少年的大脑有很大影响。故选B。
47.主旨大意题。根据第三段“Premature (过早的) aging of kids’ brains isn’t a positive development. Their stressful childhood experiences not only make people easier to suffer from depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses, but they can raise the risk of cancer, heart disease and other long-term negative outcomes. (儿童大脑过早老化不是一个积极的发展。他们充满压力的童年经历不仅使人们更容易患上抑郁症、焦虑症和其他精神疾病,而且还会增加患癌症、心脏病和其他长期负面后果的风险。)”可知,第三段主要讲述了儿童大脑过早衰老的影响。故选C。
48.细节理解题。根据第五段“To determine the brain age of their samples, the researchers fed their brain examinations into a machine-learning model for predicting brain age developed by the ENIGMA-Brain Age working group, a co-operation among scientists who share their brain image data sets. (为了确定样本的大脑年龄,研究人员将他们的脑部检查结果输入到由 ENIGMA-大脑年龄工作组开发的用于预测大脑年龄的机器学习模型中,该工作组是一个由共享大脑图像数据集的科学家组成的合作组织。)”可知,开发机器学习模型是为了分析样本的大脑年龄。故选B。
49.词句猜测题。根据第五段“They found more severe symptoms of anxiety, depression and internalizing (内在化的) problems in the group that had experienced the stress. (他们发现,经历过压力的那一组中,焦虑、抑郁和内化问题的症状更严重。)” 可知,他们还评估了配对者报告的心理健康结果,结果发现经历过压力的那一组中,焦虑、抑郁和内化问题的症状更严重,所以appraised意思是“评估”。故选D。
50.推理判断题。根据最后一段““This is a useful initial study,” agreed David Fassler, clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Vermont. “I expect the results will inform the design of future research initiatives.” (佛蒙特大学精神病学临床教授大卫・法斯勒表示同意:“这是一项有用的初步研究。我预计这些结果将为未来研究计划的设计提供参考。”)”可推知,大卫・法斯勒对这项研究持支持的态度。故选A。
D
If you are trying to lose weight, climbing stairs as a regular exercise might be for you. Stairs are available in many places. And research shows stair-climbing is more effective than walking on level ground. “Overall, it is a fact that stair-climbing gets you fit faster and consumes more calories,” said Lauri van Houten, vice president of the International Skyrumiing Federation. The organization oversees a number of activities that involve climbing.
“How many calories will I burn is the question everyone wants to know,” van Houten said. “Here’s the good news: The overall energy expenditure of the exercise depends on your weight. Therefore, the more you weigh, the more you burn,” she said.
Studies indicate that going up stairs consumes approximately 20 times more calories compared to walking on flat ground. Additionally, coming down the stairs burns roughly five times as many calories on account of the work from your muscles to reduce the speed of your body movement. That might be all you need to know if you are trying to lose weight. Dr. Alberto Minetti of Italy’s University of Milan has done a large amount of research on human movement — including stair-climbing. It is an exercise everyone can do and does not cost money, he said.
Minetti did the math to explain why going up stairs is so effective for burning calories in a short amount of time. To move 1 kilogram of body mass over one horizontal meter. You expend 0.5 calories. He said. But, he added, “If you move 1 kilogram of body mass vertically on stairs. it’s 10 calories: So it’s 20.times the calories moving vertically rather than horizontally.” Trained as a doctor, Minetti has spent his career as a researcher. He suggested that older people and beginner stair climbers watch their speed. Minetti does his own stair-climbing at his home in Milan. He said he often takes a few deep breaths before going up the many stairs. In a scientific study, Minetti makes the point that using your arms in stair-climbing adds extra power. Handrails offer safety, too.
The study notes that handrails are available along most stairs in very tall buildings. Using them increases “the muscle mass involved...” by getting the arms involved, the study shows. “They are relatively small muscles in the arms, but better than nothing,” Minetti said. If stair-climbing were an Olympic sport, Australian Suzy Walsham would own gold medals. Walsham told the Associated Press that stair-climbing is a good form of exercise for many kinds of people.
51.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A.Stair-climbing contributes to climbers’ health.
B.Stair-climbing is harmful to the climbers’ bones and muscles.
C.Stair-climbing is the most effective way to gain a competitive edge in sports.
D.Stair-climbing needs high-standard equipment for exercise.
52.Why does going down stairs burn more calories than walking on the ground?
A.Because it is an exercise everyone can do.
B.Because you are heavier while going down stairs.
C.Because your muscles have to work to slow the body·
D.Because the overall energy expenditure of exercise depends on your weight.
53.Which of the following statements does Minetti agree with?
A.It is unnecessary to warm up before climbing.
B.Using handrails may avoid the potential danger.
C.Experienced stair-climbers can pay no attention to their speed.
D.You will expend more calories to move horizontally than vertically.
54.What can be inferred about Suzy Walsham’s opinion on stair-climbing?
A.She believes it is only suitable for professional athletes.
B.She thinks it is an impractical form of exercise for most people.
C.She considers it is a flexible exercise suitable for many individuals.
D.She argues that it is less effective than other forms of exercise.
55.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Interesting Calorie Burning Fact.
B.Climbing Stairs to Calories.
C.Tips on Keeping Fit Effectively.
D.Weight Loss Through Exercises.

根据第一段“If you are trying to lose weight, climbing stairs as a regular exercise might be for you. Stairs are available in many places. And research shows stair-climbing is more effective than walking on level ground.(如果你正在尝试减肥,把爬楼梯作为一种常规锻炼可能适合你。很多地方都有楼梯。研究表明,爬楼梯比在平地上走路更有效。)”和第二段““Here’s the good news: The overall energy expenditure of the exercise depends on your weight. Therefore, the more you weigh, the more you burn,” she said.(“这里有个好消息:锻炼的总能量消耗取决于你的体重。因此,你体重越重,燃烧的卡路里就越多,”她说。)”可知,从前两段我们可以了解到爬楼梯有助于攀爬者的健康,可以帮助减肥。故选A。
根据第三段“Additionally, coming down the stairs burns roughly five times as many calories on account of the work from your muscles to reduce the speed of your body movement.(此外,由于你的肌肉要减缓身体运动的速度,下楼梯燃烧的卡路里大约是平地走路的五倍。)”
根据第四段“He suggested that older people and beginner stair climbers watch their speed. Minetti does his own stair-climbing at his home in Milan. He said he often takes a few deep breaths before going up the many stairs. In a scientific study, Minetti makes the point that using your arms in stair-climbing adds extra power. Handrails offer safety, too.(他建议老年人和初学者爬楼梯时要注意速度。Minetti在米兰的家中自己爬楼梯。他说,在爬上许多楼梯之前,他经常先深呼吸几下。在一项科学研究中,Minetti指出,爬楼梯时使用手臂会增加额外的力量。扶手也提供了安全性。)”可知,Minetti同意使用扶手可以避免潜在的危险这一观点。故选B。
54.推理判断题。根据最后一段“If stair-climbing were an Olympic sport, Australian an Suzy Walsham would own gold medals. Walsham told the Associated Press that stair-climbing is a good form of exercise for many kinds of people.(如果爬楼梯是一项奥林匹克运动,澳大利亚人Suzy Walsham将会获得金牌。Walsham告诉美联社,爬楼梯对许多人来说是一种很好的锻炼方式。)”可推知,关于Suzy Walsham对爬楼梯的看法是她认为这是一种灵活的锻炼方式,适合许多人。故选C。
55.主旨大意题。通读全文,并根据第一段“If you are trying to lose weight, climbing stairs as a regular exercise might be for you. Stairs are available in many places. And research shows stair-climbing is more effective than walking on level ground.(如果你正在尝试减肥,把爬楼梯作为一种常规锻炼可能适合你。很多地方都有楼梯。研究表明,爬楼梯比在平地上走路更有效。)”可知,本文主要讲述了爬楼梯作为一种锻炼方式,对于燃烧卡路里和减肥的效果,以及相关的研究和建议。选项B“爬楼梯燃烧卡路里”最能概括文章主旨,适合作为本文标题。故选B。
第三部分:写作
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
When an editor wrote to offer me the task of writing a famous artist’s authorized biography, I was surprised. I replied, “Me? Are you sure you have the right writer?” But that’s just what I was thinking. At that point in my career, although I had written many magazine articles, I had just a few small books to my name — children’s comic books, mostly.
So I asked why she chose me. “Due to your warmth” the editor said. Besides, the editor thought my writing style would be a good fit for that artist. Finally, I accepted the writing task. I told my friend about it and she warned me, “Just understand that celebrities will often not treat others well. They all just seem nice on television, but they’ll treat you like nothing but a servant to them.”
Her words made me quite uncertain and anxious. “What if the artist ignores me? Can I finish the writing task? Should I give up?” I thought to myself. Anyway, days later I boarded the plane to the artist’s city to meet her, still overwhelmed with uncertainty and anxiety. However, these feelings melted into thin air within minutes after meeting her. My friend was wrong; this artist was an absolute sweetheart, who was humble, down-to-earth, funny and caring.
She shared cookies with me. She sat on the floor with me and we chatted into the middle of the night like we were old schoolmates. During the following days, she told me a lot about her life, work, dream, etc. And I managed to have a good knowledge of her. When I finished the book, the artist’s husband called to tell me how well I had captured her and that he felt very emotional and proud after reading the book. Hearing it, I was thrilled.
Since then, I’ve realized the importance of self-belief and courage to face the unknown. Otherwise, I may pass up a good opportunity in life. Now I’ve met many fascinating people and written many fascinating stories.
56.Why was the author surprised when she was offered the writing task? (no more than 12 words)
57.What made the editor choose the author for the task according to Paragraph 2?(no more than 8 words)
58.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 probably mean?(1 word)
59.According to Paragraph 4, what made the author feel very excited after getting a call? (no more than 6 words)
60.How are you inspired by the author’s story? Please explain.(no more than 20 words)
56.(Because) she had just a few small books to her name.
57. The author’s warmth and her writing style.
58. Disappeared./Vanished.
59. The praise/response/feedback from the artist’s husband.
60.We should believe in ourselves and needn’t be afraid of any uncertainty.
根据文章第一段“At that point in my career, although I had written many magazine articles, I had just a few small books to my name — children’s comic books, mostly.(在我的职业生涯的那个阶段,虽然我写了很多杂志文章,但我只有几本小书——大多是儿童漫画书)”可知,作者惊讶的原因是因为她只有几本小书,即她的作品很少,所以她会对这个写作任务感到惊讶。 (Because) she had just a few small books to her name。
根据文章第二段““Due to your warmth” the editor said. Besides, the editor thought my writing style would be a good fit for that artist.(编辑说,“因为你的热情。”此外,编辑认为我的写作风格很适合那位艺术家)”可知,编辑选择作者是因为她的热情和写作风格,故答案是:The author’s warmth and her writing style。
根据划线句“However, these feelings melted into thin air within minutes after meeting her. My friend was wrong; this artist was an absolute sweetheart, who was humble, down-to-earth, funny and caring.(然而,见到她几分钟后,这些感觉melted into thin air。我的朋友错了;这位艺术家是一个绝对的甜心,她谦虚,朴实,有趣又贴心)”可知,这位艺术家的形象和作者所担忧的艺术家不友好的形象完全不同,因此作者的不安和担忧都消失了。melt into thin air是一个固定短语,意思是“消失得无影无踪”,因此,这里可以用disappeared或vanished来概括其意思,这两个词都有“消失”的含义。故答案是:Disappeared/Vanished。
根据文章第四段“When I finished the book, the artist’s husband called to tell me how well I had captured her and that he felt very emotional and proud after reading the book. Hearing it, I was thrilled.(当我写完这本书时,艺术家的丈夫打电话告诉我,我把她刻画得多好,他读完这本书后感到非常感动和自豪。听到这些,我很激动)”可知,让作者感到非常兴奋的是艺术家丈夫的赞扬、回应或反馈,故答案是:The praise/ response/ feedback from the artist’s husband。
根据文章最后一段“Since then, I’ve realized the importance of self-belief and courage to face the unknown. Otherwise, I may pass up a good opportunity in life.(从那时起,我意识到了自信和面对未知的勇气的重要性。否则,我可能会错过生活中的一个好机会)”可知,作者的故事激励我们要相信自己,不要害怕任何不确定性,故答案是:We should believe in ourselves and needn’t be afraid of any uncertainty。

C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
