Every day, people throw away about 28,000 tons of paper
in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper.
This means that we are cutting down nearly 476,000 trees
every day. So how can we save paper? We can use
both sides of every piece of paper when we are taking
notes. Do not use paper cups. It is better to use china
cups, because they can be used many times. When we
go shopping, we should take our own cloth bags and try to
use fewer paper bags. We can also buy products that
are made from recycled paper to help save trees. Last
recy

What would you like for lunch? Maybe, a battery? Although it
sounds unusual, this has already been realized by scientists as they
develop electronic things you can eat.
Robofood, a program led by Dario Floreano from the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, has been the pioneer.
Together with scientists from Wageningen University, the Netherlands,
it has made a new drone (无人机). Half of the parts inside can be
eaten! The program plans to create robots that can be eaten and foods
that act like robots by mixing food science and robots in a new way.
According to the scientists, the wings (翅膀) of the drone were
made from rice cakes glued together using oil and chocolate. This drone
can find missing people and carry food or medicine necessary to them.
Parts of the drone can be eaten since they meet food safety standards set
up by the United Nations.
However, the main problem is finding stronger eatable materials for
the drones wings to prepare for bad weather and high temperatures. Of
course, the chocolate may melt (融化) easily.
Robofood also developed an eatable sensor (感应器) to help watch
stomach sickness. Its eaten by the patient to check the conditions
inside. Unlike other sensors out there today, its designed to be easily
broken down, reducing the risk of leaving any remains inside the body.
The invention of Robofood also helps with environmental
protection. The worlds first fully eatable batteries can help deal with the
growing problem of throwing away used batteries. Some parts of the
battery are made of vitamin B2 and another natural ingredient that can
be found in many fruits including apples. So the new battery can be
more friendly for nature.

C. It reduces the risk of cancer.
D. It helps protect the environment.

Try to move your ears up and down. Not many people can do this.
19
There are actually tiny muscles around your ears. Some people can
slightly move their ears, but there is no known purpose for these
muscles.
However, at one point, they were thought to be useful for our
ancestors. Scientists believe humans used to be able to move their ears
like cats and dogs to better hear or be alert (警觉的) of possible nearby
danger, according to Stanford at The Tech.
Gradually, humans did not need these special muscles, but some
humans still have the ability to move them. Now, scientists believe
theres a new way to look at these ear muscles.
“Humans may be able to repurpose these muscles for their own
uses,” said Steven Hackley, a psychologist ( 心 理 学 家 ) at the
University of Missouri.
Hackley found that the ear movement connects with happy feelings.
In an experiment, these muscles were not activated (激活) when a
person had bad feelings. But they were activated when the person was
happy.
We may not be able to physically move them when we think about
it, but they are activated by themselves when we are happy. Hackley
doesnt know exactly why this happens, but he thinks he knows how it
works. Hackley said the ear muscles are connected to facial muscles. So
when you are happy or when you smile, your ear muscles also move.
This information will help psychologists learn more about human
feelings. They can use the ear muscle activation as a way to tell peoples
true feelings at a given time.

5 小题,计 10 分)
Have you ever dreamed of travelling all the way over the rainbow?
Well, its easier than you think. All you need to do is to book a plane
ticket to Rainbow Mountain in Peru (秘鲁).
Rainbow Mountain is a beautiful natural wonder. It lies in the
Andes in Cusco. As its name suggests, the mountain has different
colors.
But why is it in yellow, green, red and purple? The reason is the
ice that covered the area centuries ago. When it started to melt, the
water mixed with the minerals (矿物质) in the ground and turned the
earth into many colors.
If you plan your trip to the mountain, try to go during warmer
months when there is less rain or snow. Rain or snow makes climbing
more difficult and the colors will look less beautiful. The best time is
from March to November, when there are blue skies and pleasant
weather. At the same time, visit it in the morning or evening, either
right after sunrise or right before sunset. Very sunny days may make you
not take nice photos.
To get to Rainbow Mountain, you should first travel to Cusco — a
province in the south of Peru. Then you can take a drive to Qesoyuno.
From there you can start the journey on foot. It takes about a two-or-
three-hour walk to the top. This is really the best way, but it is very
challenging. Because the mountain sits at a very high altitude (海拔)
about 5,200 meters above sea level. So bring enough water and take
your time.
