It has also set March 21, 2025, as the first annual World Day for Glaciers. This event encourages everyone to help save glaciers. ▲What are glaciers? You can imagine glaciers as slowly moving ice and snow on land. Over time, the snow adds up and turns into glacier ice. Glaciers have shaped mountains and valleys over Earth’s history. They are still moving and changing land in many places today. ▲_________________________ Glaciers are not just necessary for the land. When glaciers melt (融化), the nutrients (养料) from the water are good for life in rivers and oceans. In some places, glaciers provide water for people and animals. The UN says there are about 200,000 glaciers in the world, covering 10 percent of the land. They also hold 70 percent of Earth’s fresh water. In areas like the Himalayas, many people need glacier water to live. This water fills big rivers, such as the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra. ▲Why are glaciers disappearing? Climate change is leading to serious problems for glaciers. Many glaciers have disappeared. The atmosphere (大气层) around the Earth is like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and keeping most heat from getting out. This natural process makes Earth warm enough for life. But when we burn fuels such as wood and coal, we produce a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2). Too much of this gas pollutes the atmosphere and causes it to keep in too much heat. As the Earth’s temperature is increasing, glaciers melt faster than they can recover. ▲ The influence of glaciers disappearing If glaciers disappear, there will be less water for us to drink and farm, while floods may happen more often due to melting ice. It would also be bad for animals and plants. Mountains with glaciers are home to special ecosystems and a large number of the world’s amphibians, birds and mammals. As temperatures rise and glaciers melt, these habitats become not fit for living. They may need to move higher up the mountains. 16. What can we know about glaciers in Paragraph Two? A. They are made of icy ocean water. B. They disappear completely in summer. C. They move slowly and change the land. D. They are mainly on high mountain tops. 17. Which sentence can be put in the blank “________”? A. When do glaciers melt? B. Why are glaciers important? C. How many glaciers are there in the world? D. What will happen to glaciers in the future? 18. How does the atmosphere deal with sunlight according to the passage? A. B. C. D. 19. What will happen if glaciers disappear? A. There won’t be as many floods as before. B. Many plants and animals will be in trouble. C. There will be more drinking water available. D. The land around glaciers will be better for farming. 20. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To call for actions to protect glaciers. B To record the speed of glacier movement. C. To tell people some basic facts about glaciers. D. To teach people how glaciers shaped mountains. 16. C 17. B 18. D 19. B 20. B. White and first published in 1952, Charlotte’s Web is a classic story set largely on a farm. It is a celebration of farm life, which is full of warmth and wisdom. The story takes place on a farm. Eight-year-old Fern Arable is sad when she hears that her father is going to kill the smallest one of his pig’s new litter (幼崽). Saying that the pig has a right to life and promising to look after it in their family’s yard, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur. However, fearing his daughter is spending too much time with an animal, Mr. Arable sends Wilbur to the nearby farm of Fern’s uncle, Mr. Zuckerman. At first, Wilbur is lonely and misses Fern. However, he settles in his new home when he makes friends with a spider (蜘蛛) named Charlotte and other animals. When Wilbur learns that he is going to be killed and served at Christmas dinner, Charlotte comes up with a plan to save him. Charlotte spins (结网) words of praise like “Some pig” for Wilbur on her web. This draws the attention of the Zuckermans and their neighbours. They all think Wilbur is special and the thought of killing him becomes unthinkable. When Wilbur is taken to the country fair, Charlotte goes to continue her work—She spins new messages. The results draw huge crowds and Charlotte’s plan to save Wilbur’s life pays off. At the close of the fair, however, Charlotte says goodbye to Wilbur. She is dying. But she entrusts her friend with her eggs. Heartbroken, Wilbur takes the eggs back to the farm and sees that they hatch (孵化). Three of Charlotte’s “kids” stay with Wilbur and live happily with him on the farm. While humorous, the novel also contains important lessons. For example, Fern’s caring for Wilbur teaches her responsibility. And she realizes that if she stands up for what she believes in, she can make a difference in the world. 46. Read the passage and finish the storyline. No more than 2 words for each. ________ ________ ________ ________ ________ ________ 47. What does the phrase “pays off” mean in Chinese? ____________________________________________________________________ 48. Which character do you like best? And why? ____________________________________________________________________ 【答案】46. ①. saves ②. to draw##to catch ③. give up ④. death ⑤. responsibility##wisdom ⑥. wisdom##responsibility 47. It means “取得成功” in Chinese. 48. I like Charlotte best. Because she is not only smart, but also brave and willing to give everything for her friends. 【46题详解】 根据“Saying that the pig has a right to life and promising to look after it in their family’s yard, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur.” 第一个空填saves;根据“Charlotte spins (结网) words of praise like ‘Some pig’ for Wilbur on her web. This draws the attention of the Zuckermans and their neighbours. They all think Wilbur is special and the thought of killing him becomes unthinkable.” 不定式为to draw one’s attention或to catch one’s attention。故第二个空填to draw/to catch;make sb do sth“让某人做某事”,空处动词用原形。“放弃”用give up。第三个空填give up;根据“At the close of the fair, however, Charlotte says goodbye to Wilbur. She is dying. But she entrusts her friend with her eggs. Heartbroken, Wilbur takes the eggs back to the farm and sees that they hatch (孵化).” 第四个空填death;根据“It is a celebration of farm life, which is full of warmth and wisdom.”和“For example, Fern’s caring for Wilbur teaches her responsibility. And she realizes that if she stands up for what she believes in, she can make a difference in the world.” 故填saves;to draw/to catch;give up;death;responsibility/wisdom;wisdom/responsibility。 【47题详解】 根据“Three of Charlotte’s ‘kids’ stay with Wilbur and live happily with him on the farm.”和“The results draw huge crowds and Charlotte’s plan to save Wilbur’s life pays off.” 故填:It means “取得成功” in Chinese. I like Charlotte best. Because she is not only smart, but also brave and willing to give everything for her friends. B The United Nations (UN) has decided that 2025 is the year of glacier preservation It has also set March 21, 2025, as the first annual World Day for Glaciers. B. To record the speed of glacier movement. C. To tell people some basic facts about glaciers. D. To teach people how glaciers shaped mountains. C When people think about movies, they often talk about what they see. However, what they hear also plays an important role. The voices behind the characters help to bring them to life. Lyu Yanting, 37, the voice actor of little Nezha in Ne Zha 2, uses her voice to bring to life a great character who fights against fate (命运). “Dubbing (配音) is very similar to acting,” said Lyu. Voice actors will get the play before they start. After reading it, they will have their own understanding of the story and character. During the dubbing process, she needs to show the character’s feelings. Also, she has to match her voice perfectly with the animation’s scenes. “The director plays an important role. He will explain the story and scenes on set. With his guidance, we work together to give our best performance.” Lyu believes it is very important to keep improving as a voice actor. “We need to improve our understanding, experience more in life and develop different views. With these things and our professional skills, we can successfully act out different roles.” Lyu is thankful for being part of this great project. She could show everything she had learned in the past. But she also believes that getting such an opportunity needed some luck. It is always hard to find roles that completely suit her. “You can’t depend on just one perfect role throughout your whole career (职业),” she added. “As a voice actor, you need to be able to adapt to kinds of roles.” For young people who want to enter the voice acting industry, Lyu offered her advice: If you truly love it, give it your all. You may not know what the future holds, but you can make the most of the present. Borrowing a line from Ne Zha 2, she said, “Who you are is only for you to decide.” 21. How do voices play a role in movies? A. They make the movies longer. B. They make movies more fun to watch. C. They help make characters come alive. D. They allow people to better understand the movie. 22. Which words can be used to describe Lyu Yanting according to the passage? A. Serious and Shy. B. Clever and Brave. C. Hard-working and Lucky. D. Honest and Kind-hearted. 23. What does the underlined words “adapt to” mean? A. Stick to. B. Get used to. C. Look forward to. D. Pay attention to. 24. What advice does Lyu give to young people? A. Choose roles carefully. B. Keep up with the industry. C. Always believe in yourselves. D. Love what you do and try your best. 25. What is the best title of the passage? A.
