It is said that eyes are the windows of our soul. Therefore, in order to have healthy eyes, we have to look after them properly. Our eyes need good care every day.
First, we have to pay more attention to our diet. Have more fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, eggs and milk. They are good for our eyes. Besides, a regular amount of vitamin A and B2 should also be taken.
Second, we must have a good sleep. It relaxes the eye muscles and gives them the rest they need. Sleep can help the body repair its tired tissue (组织). Usually, we must sleep for at least eight hours every day. Lack of sleep can bring us dark circles around the eyes.
Third, it’s necessary for us to exercise our eyes every day. Blink our eyes at regular times to make the eyeballs watery.
Last, we should use our eyes correctly. For example, if a small thing goes into the eye, don’t rub (擦) it. Rubbing is harmful to our eyes. Don’t read or write in poor or bright light, because it can cause eye tiredness. Remember to wear sunglasses to stop the sunshine from shining directly into our eyes. Too much reading, writing, watching television or working on the computer can also cause eye tiredness, so a good rest is needed.

As a volunteer teacher, I traveled a long way to a small village school in Longzhou, Guangxi. On my way there, I thought about the village, the school, and the children there. However, my heart sank when I arrived there. It was out of what I had expected. It didn’t look like a school at all! The school had only three rooms, one was for Grades 1, 2 and 3, one was for Grades 4, 5, 6 and the third one was for me.
The children welcomed me warmly on my first day. They asked me a lot of questions, and I told them stories about myself and my life in Shanghai. The next day, I gave them a test to find out their level (水平). To my surprise, though the test was very easy, over half of the students failed, yet they all wanted to learn new things. I knew they needed me.
I was busy preparing lessons and reading test papers every night. I enjoyed teaching these lovely and hard-working children, and I could see that they were making progress with my help. I have also learned a lot from them. I understand their lives better, and we are now good friends.
I have worked in Longzhou for a year now. I’m very happy and the experience has been very useful to me. I love the small village and the children. In fact, I would like to go on working here.

It’s always a happy moment when you get some pocket money. But have you ever thought about how to spend your pocket money wisely? Here is some advice.
Make a list. When you get your pocket money, don’t get too excited. We all have a lot of things that we want, but do you really need them? That’s why it is necessary to make a list before you spend money. Start with the thing you want most. You can also write down how much it costs or how important it is in your life. By doing this, you will see if you really need to buy it.
Help others. How about being more selfless (无私的) and using your pocket money to help others? We all know that there are many people in the world who are in need of our help. Helping others brings out the best in us and is one of the greatest joys in our lives. So consider using your pocket money to do something useful and helpful, and feel how you can make a difference.
Save as much as you can. There is an old saying, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” If you spend all your pocket money right away, you’ll have no money until your next “pay day”. A wallet sometimes might not be the best place to save money because it may make it easier for you to spend your money. Get a piggy bank (存钱罐) or ask your parents to start a savings account (账户) for you. Someday when you look back, you’ll get a strong feeling of achievement by saving so much money by yourself.
45. Why should we make a list before spending money?
A. To know which thing is the most expensive.
B. To make sure we can buy everything.
C. To help us decide what is really needed.
D. To know if we have enough money for the things.
46. What’s the text probably written for?
A. Adults. B. Teenagers. C. Old people. D. Women.
47. What can we know from the passage?
A. A wallet might be the best place to save money.
B. Helping others can bring us great happiness.
C. A piggy bank can help us make more money.
D. Our parents’ savings account is the best place to save money.
48. What’s the theme of the text?
A. Science. B. Nature. C. Culture. D. Life.

Growing up with Good Books
My dear friends,
Reading is important. It helps us get knowledge, broaden our horizons and make us happy. Reading also opens our eyes to the wonderful world.
However, watching TV and surfing the Internet take up most of our spare time now. Many students spend too much time on electronics instead of books. Here is my proposal. First, we should read more good books, especially classics. Second, we can spread Chinese traditional culture to the world through reading. Finally, let’s make reading part of our life. I hope everyone can join us.
Good books are like friends. Let’s start reading now!
