Housework is a great disciplinary (纪律的) tool to use for raising children. However, not all chores are suitable for every age. The following is advice on activities parents can use to develop their children’s useful habits.
Two-year-olds can learn how to take out the rubbish. They can also help their parents carry light things and hang up clothes. At this age children should learn how to put their toys away before going to bed.
At the age of three, children can learn how to water plants and feed pets carefully. They should learn how to make their beds and put their dishes away. Children at this age can pick up the daily newspapers, and begin to learn how to wash clothes.
Four-year-olds should be old enough to do what the two-and three-year-olds can do and more. They can make their beds, set the table, and clean up after dinner. They should also learn how to fold their clothes and put them in the correct cabinets (柜子), as well as how to choose their clothes for the following day.
Children aged five should help clean the table and change their bed sheets. They can also prepare their schoolbags, as well as anything else related to (与……有关) the next school day. At this age they should learn to clean up their toys and tidy up their rooms.

After a serious earthquake happened, a father left his wife safely at home and rushed to his son’s school, only to find that the building where his son studied had collapsed and looked like a pancake.
He was shocked. He didn’t know what he should do for a while. Then he remembered the words he had said to his son, “No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you!” And tears began to fill his eyes. He started digging through the ruins (废墟).
As he was digging, other helpless parents and the firemen arrived and tried to pull him off the ruins, saying, “It’s too late! They’re all dead! There’s nothing you can do!” To them he replied with one line, “Are you going to help me now?” And then he kept on digging.
No one helped, however. He went on alone because he needed to know for himself: “Is my boy alive or is he dead?” He dug for 8 hours... 12 hours... 24 hours... 36 hours... then, in the 39th hour, he pulled a rock and heard his son’s voice. He shouted his son’s name, “ARMAND!” He heard back, “Dad! It’s me, Dad! I told the other kids not to worry. I told them that if you were alive, you’d save me and that when you saved me, they would be saved. You promised, ‘No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you!’ You did it, Dad!”
“What’s going on there? How is it?” the father asked.
“There are 14 of us left out of 33, Dad. We’re frightened, hungry, thirsty and thankful you’re here. When the building fell down, it made a triangle (三角形), and it saved us.”

Dealing with a nosebleed might seem simple. But the British Red Cross asked parents with young children how to help a child with a nosebleed. About 65 percent of parents did not choose the correct action to help.
Learning what to do if a little child has a nosebleed will help you deal with the situation quickly and calmly. Here, Claire shares the story of how she helped her daughter when her nose was bleeding.
On a very hot and sunny day, Claire took her daughter Bella, aged almost three and a half, to the park. On the way home, Bella fell asleep in the car. When they got home, Claire found something was wrong with Bella.
“As I was laying her down, blood started pouring from her nose. It was all over her face and down her neck and that made me scared,” Claire said.
Having already learned first aid Claire knew what to do.
“Bella got upset because of all the blood. I sat her up, leaned (倾斜) her forward and pressed the sides of her nose,” Claire said. “I knew this was right, as leaning her forward would stop the blood from going into her airway (气管) or stomach.” Luckily, Bella’s nosebleed stopped after a few minutes.
Claire was glad that she had remembered the key ways to help children with a nosebleed: to press the sides of their nose and ask them to lean forward. In fact, every parent should learn how to deal with a nosebleed. Then he or she can help the child in a right way.

D. To stop the blood from going into her daughter’s airway or stomach.
67. What does the passage mainly want to tell us?

Having already learned first aid, Claire knew what to do.
