It is performed during festivals, celebrations, and important events, such as weddings, business openings and especially Chinese New Year. People believe it brings good luck and keeps away from bad spirits. It creates a festival atmosphere and brings happiness. Two artists wear a lion costume to perform (表演) the dance. One plays the head and front legs. The other plays the back and hind legs. The pair work together to do many difficult movements during the performance. They need to practice kung fu to do their job well. The lion dance was being performed as early as the Han Dynasty. No one knows exactly how it started. Some say it had to do with war. One day, an emperor dreamed of a strange animal after a fight. It was fierce but didn’t look like a tiger. The emperor wanted eagerly to know what it was. The next day, his advisors told him that this animal was a lion. The emperor thought that it was a gift from heaven. Then, he asked people to make this animal out of paper, cloth and bamboo. The “lion models” were used in future fights to encourage soldiers (战士). Later it became a form of art. The lion became a symbol of power, courage, and wisdom in Chinese culture. The lion dance takes two forms. One is performed in the north and the other in the south. The northern lion looks more real, while the southern lion looks more like a dragon. The northern lion pays more attention to the leg movements, while the southern lion moves head dramatically with the rhythm of drums and gongs (锣). Both types show the power and wisdom of Chinese culture. 48. Why do the performers of lion dance need to practice kung fu? A. To fight in future wars. B. To perform difficult movements. C. To scare away bad spirits. D. To create a festival atmosphere and bring happiness. 49. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. The dream was about a tiger. B. The dream was a sign of bad luck. C. The dream led to the creation of the lion dance. D. The dream was forgotten by the emperor soon. 51. By the 1960s, plastic straws have become common. It is said that 500 million straws are used just in the United States each day. So what’s the problem? The problem is that plastics, including plastic straws that are usually thrown away after one use, end up in the the world’s oceans. As many as 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the world’s beaches and oceans. There are many choices for people who need or want a straw. Paper straws are becoming popular. Straws made from a new kind of plastic, which is biodegradable (可生物降解的) and made from plants, are also a good choice. Companies are also marketing reusable straws made of glass or metal. People can carry these straws with them to use when they go to a restaurant. However, paper straws are about 6 cents each, and reusable glass straws are about 50 to 60 cents each, while a regular plastic straw only costs about a cent. That adds up for restaurants and food sellers that offer straws. Because the use of plastic straws is getting a lot of attention these days, many businesses have decided not to use them. It comes from the soft coat of sheep. Humans have been wearing wool for over 12,000 years. Today, more than 1.3 billion sheep around the world are used each year for woollen products, like sweaters and scarves. ②Why do so many people like woollen products? One of the great things about wool is that it is a fantastic insulator. This means it keeps us warm when it’s cold outside. It also has tiny air pockets that trap (锁住) heat, making it perfect for those cold days. ③Another advantage of wool is that it is breathable. It allows air to pass through, keeping us cool in the summer as well. Unlike other materials, it can prevent us from overheating, and make us feel comfortable. ④Wool is not only warm and breathable, but it is also durable (耐用的) and long-lasting. It’s strong enough for outdoor activities like hiking or playing in the snow. Woollen clothes can be passed down from one generation (一代) to another, creating a beautiful connection between family members. ⑤Making wool products requires a lot of efforts and a series of processes, which start with cutting. The sheep farmers cut the wool off the sheep completely by hand in spring. Don’t worry: cutting is safe and painless for the sheep, just like getting a haircut! After the cutting, hundreds of kilos of wool are packed together. Once the wool is collected, it goes through a process called scouring. It means wool is washed to remove any dirt and oil. Then the wool is made into yarn (毛线), which is used to make different woollen products. After the yarn is coloured, skilled workers make it into various products. ⑥Wool is made into all kinds of woollen products after processing and is used widely in our daily life. 60 How does the writer show that wool is a great material in Paragraph 1? A. By telling stories. B. By explaining ideas. C. By showing facts. D. By comparing reasons. 61. What is the advantage of wool according to the passage? A. It can be used for a long time. B. It can stop air from passing through. C. It can produce and give out heat. D. It can be made into products easily. 62. Which picture correctly shows “scouring”? A. B. C. D. 63. This change aims to reduce the heavy study pressure that students have faced for years. Before the policy, many students in provinces like Hebei only had one day or even half a day to rest each week. Now, schools are required to cancel all weekend classes and exams, allowing students to relax or explore personal interests. According to the new rules, teachers cannot give extra (额外的) homework during weekends, but schools must keep libraries and sports fields open for students who wish to study or exercise voluntarily (自愿地). In cities like Changsha and Hangzhou, some schools have even started organizing weekend activities such as science clubs, art workshops, and community service programs. Most students welcome the policy. “I finally have time to play basketball and read novels,” said Li Ming, a 16-ycar-old student. “I feel less tired and more focused during weekdays.” Studies also show that students who get enough rest perform better in exams. For example, a high school in Zhejiang reported a 15% improvement in average test scores after carrying out the policy. However, some parents still worry. “Weekends used to be important for reviewing lessons. I’m afraid my child will fall behind,” said a parent. Rural (农村的) areas face bigger challenges. In villages where educational resources are limited, students have fewer chances to take part in afterschool activities. One day an emperor dreamed of a strange animal after a fight. 51. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. The History of Chinese Festivals B. The Art of Kung Fu in Performances C. The Lion Dance—a Symbol of Chinese Culture D. The Differences Between the Northern and Southern Lion Dance C Plastic straws (吸管) are a modern invention, although people have been using different types of things for drinking water for centuries. Starbucks has said that it will stop using plastic straws. McDonald’s announced that it will start banning (禁止) straws at its restaurants in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Hotel chains such as Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt plan to stop using them. Even the whole cities, like Seattle, are banning the use of plastic straws. California now has a law in place that customers will only be given a straw if they ask for one. The next time you’re buying something to drink, think about your straw choices. Reuse, reduce, and recycle. 52. What can we know about the plastic straws from the text? A. They are a modern invention. B. They are seldom used in daily life. C. They were invented in 1960. D. They have been popular for centuries. 53. What’s the problem of using plastic straws? A. Plastic straws are not easy to use for most people. B. Plastic straws are usually thrown away everywhere. C. Plastic straws cause big pollution to beaches and oceans. D. Plastic straws are difficult to make and waste a lot of money. 54. Which straw costs the least according to Paragraph 3? A. The paper straw. B. The plastic straw. C. The glass straw. D. The metal straw. 55. What’s the purpose of the text? A. To share a new way of drinking water. B. To introduce a new law against water pollution. C. To explain the history and development of restaurants. D. To show the importance of using fewer plastic straws. 60. How does the writer show that wool is a great material in Paragraph 1? A. By telling stories. B. By explaining ideas. C. By showing facts. D. By comparing reasons. 61. What is the advantage of wool according to the passage? A. It can be used for a long time. B. It can stop air from passing through. C. It can produce and give out heat. D. It can be made into products easily. 62. Which picture correctly shows “scouring”? A. B. C. D. 63. Which is the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. To solve this, the government has created free online learning platforms and encouraged urban (城市的) schools to share resources with rural ones. Many teachers believe this policy marks a turning point in China’s education. It brings both benefits (好处) and challenges to students. They suggest that ________________. 69.
