These places will include historic buildings, wonderful scenery and wildlife for all to enjoy. Formby Nature Reserve, Liverpool Formby is a coastal town just north of Liverpool and is luckily one of the few places in Britain where there are a large number of red squirrels. Children will love the excitement of getting to see these cute animals. The paths are well protected, meaning they are fit for pushchair users. And dogs are allowed, too. Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle The 74-mile-long Hadrian’s Wall was completed by the Romans in 128 AD after 6 years’ building. Autumn walks along Hadrian’s Wall are an excellent way to educate children on the history of the British Isles and really get up close to the styles of Roman buildings rather than just seeing them in a textbook! Lyme Park, Peak District Not only is Lyme Park home to many trees, it is also home to a group of medieval (中世纪的) red deer and a huge Edwardian country manor (庄园). This Peak District walk is quite fit for families, and along the way are playgrounds and tree houses, making sure that the little ones that you are with will never feel bored. Lakeside Walk at Stowe, Buckinghamshire This place is on the outskirts of London and provides people with perfect chances to escape from the busy city lifestyle. The flat and wide path around the river makes it more than fit for pushchair or wheelchair users. This walk is short in length, meaning it is a great way to introduce any young one to walking as a hobby. The walk is great all year round. 1. Where can kids learn about the buildings of ancient Rome? A. Lyme Park. B. Hadrian’s Wall. C. Lakeside Walk at Stowe. D. Formby Nature Reserve. 2. Dr. Matina said, “A recent research has shown that women tend to eat more plant-based foods and less animal- based products than men. But our study suggests this is not a healthier food choice and doesn’t lead to a better health condition.” Most studies treat all plant-based foods as equal. In fact, healthy plant-based products were made up of fruits, vegetables and coffee while unhealthy plant-based products included juices, potatoes and any kind of sweets. The study examined the link between the quantity (数量) and quality of plant-based foods and heart health over a 10-year period. In 2011, the study selected 146 fat adults living in Athens with nor- mal blood pressure and blood sugar. Ten years later, nearly half of these fat participants (参与者) developed high blood pressure and high blood sugar, because most of them preferred unhealthy plant-based foods. Another half who ate quality plant-based foods, however, didn’t have these health problems. According to the research, eating quality plant-based foods was linked with keeping normal blood pressure and blood sugar. On the other hand, eating unhealthy plant-based foods was connected with developing high blood pressure and high blood sugar. 4. Which of the following is healthy plant-based foods? A. Potatoes. B. Vermillion is an architect and designer. He creates artwork of spaces. Before he started using AI to do this, Vermillion would make maybe 10 pieces in a year. Last year, though, he made around 150 works. “I can just simply tell the computer what I want in simple English,” he says. “What a time to be alive!” Many other artists, though, aren’t so ecstatic about AI-generated art. Katria Raden is an independent illustrator and author. People used to hire her regularly to create art for marketing materials or to illustrate children’s books. Last year, almost no one reached out about these types of jobs. The rise of AI may help explain this. “At times I think it’s a bad dream,” she says. “I feel scared and angry, but also pretty sad.” Using AI to create an image is quick and easy. There are many popular image generators. They are cheap or even free to use. They also pose threats to some artists’ jobs. But the problems go deeper than that. These images were scraped (勉强获得) from the Internet. Data scraping automatically pulls files from web pages. Often, no one asks permission or checks what these files contain. Thousands of artists’ names and works have been found in the data set. Illegal or harmful images and people’s personal photos are also among those data. Raden doesn’t like the way AI image generators were trained or how they’ re being used. “It will have a bad effect,” she says. Many artists agree with her. Vermillion sees their point. But for him the rise of AI tools has been mostly positive. At design workshops he runs, he always asks people how they use AI in their works. He recalls one participant saying, “Sometimes I just need a creative partner that doesn’t think like I do.” AI, he feels, can play that role. 12. How does AI affect Vermillion? A. He lives a simple life. B. He becomes highly productive. C. He is filled with a sense of loss. D. He tends to write children’s books. 13. What does the underlined word “ecstatic” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Regretful. B. Curious. C. Excited. D. Ashamed. 14. What does Raden think of AI? A. It threatens her work. B. It increases her income. C. It is a convenience for her. D. It enables her to work freely. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To recommend a book about AL B. To introduce an admirable artist. C. To share various opinions on AL D. To voice his views on modern life. B 13. C 14. A 15. 、第三段中“Many other artists, though, aren’t so ecstatic about AI-generated art. A. 由文章第三段中“People used to hire her regularly to create art for marketing materials or to illustrate children’s books. Last year, almost no one reached out about these types of jobs. The rise of AI may help explain this. “At times I think it’s a bad dream,” she says. “I feel scared and angry, but also pretty sad.” 故选A。 Joshua Vermillion was describing the first time he used artificial intelligence (AI) to make an image. 、第三段中“People used to hire her regularly to create art for marketing materials or to illustrate children’s books. Aside from my parents, I felt others found my shyness difficult to accept. It used to be something that affected my life in the most negative way possible. It made me unable to talk in any setting in which I felt uncomfortable. This means that I wasn’t even able to speak in class, chat with my friends, order my own food, etc. At the 5th grade, my parents moved to a neighbouring city because of the job relocation and I changed schools. I found myself in a new classroom with a new teacher, whom we called Ms. S, surrounded by 30 new faces. This was fairly terrifying. And so when I was asked to stand up and introduce myself, I was trembling. Still then, I was labelled as “shy and quiet”. I didn’t have a lot of friends, only spoke in class if I really had to, kept everything to myself, avoided public events, and panicked badly at the thought of oral presentations in class. This haunted (萦绕) me until one day, Ms. S announced in class that each of us was going to be singing a solo in front of the class. I’d had no idea that this was going to happen. When it was my turn, she called me up to the front, instructed the piano player to begin and I very unwillingly sang “Cuckoo, cuckoo, pray what do you do...” in a barely audible, high-pitched voice, with the rest of silent children staring up at me. Ms. S stood next to the piano, saying: “Louder! Louder! ” But I didn’t know how to project my voice; I couldn’t make it any louder. I was really upset at it. I cried for a few hours. I suspected my childhood shyness was largely unsupported in the new school. This even made me not want to go to school. After school, Ms. S asked me to go into her office. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I took her word for it and something shifted for me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: After school, Ms. S asked me to go into her office. Though I was hesitant, I dragged myself to her office and Ms. S waved at me with a welcoming smile. As it turned out, not only was I allowed to make up for my poor performance, but Ms. S was the first person other than my parents to accept my shyness. She shared her own shyness story, and this really surprised me. Ms. S suggested I should go beyond my comfort zone by doing new activities. I took her word for it and something shifted for me. At first, I simply worked at feeling comfortable speaking in English and making new friends. Then when I was a bit more adapted to the school, I started talking to teachers. After that, I also started getting more involved in clubs and activities. Currently, I’m working at talking with more people and just being more open in general. I even voluntarily participated in a Science Fair, became vice-president of two clubs, and joined the public speaking club. 词汇激活 行为类 ①接受:accept/give in to ②建议:suggest/recommend ③参加:participate in/take part in 情绪类 ①犹豫的:hesitant/faltering ②(使)吃惊:surprise/amaze 【点睛】[高分句型1]. 1. It is fit for a quiet and relaxing stay. B Plant-based foods are not so healthy, according to a new research at ESC Congress 2020. A. Potatoes. B. Juices. C. Vegetables. D. Sweets. 5. Why did nearly half of the participants develop high blood pressure ten years later? A. They didn’t take part in sports actively. B. It can help keep good health. B. It has nothing to do with health. C. It only benefits women’s health. D. It can make women stronger than men. 7. In which part of a newspaper may the text appear? A. C When tennis player Sam Bencheghib recognized the way the oceans in his home country, Indonesia, were polluted, in 2009 he and his older brother, Gary, co-founded Make a Change World, an organization supporting sustainability(可持续性) as well as helping to cut plastic(塑料) pollution. The company shares short videos encouraging eco-friendly actions. Bencheghib has worked on several projects overseas. But he wanted to do something in the United States on his own. In January, Bencheghib came up with the idea to run from Los Angeles to New York, to make people pay attention to plastic pollution and its influence on oceans. Starting on June 8, Bencheghib has kept running 20 miles a day for 140 days. Along the way, he plans to host education speeches at schools, universities and town halls as well as organize street and city cleanups to influence people. Bencheghib said he understands the difficulty of his task but recognizes that taking risks often has advantages. Unsurprisingly when he told his team and coaches about his plan, he was met with surprise. “We were all really excited but couldn’t believe it,” teammate Christopher Auteri said. “It’s crazy how long it is, but we know if there’s anyone who’s going to do it, it’s going to be Sam.” Since Bencheghib broke the news to the team, there have been no plastic water bottles in the locker room, and teammates join Bencheghib on training runs. Coach Wouter Hendrix said Bencheghib’s work shows his persistence(坚持) and courage, which he believes will serve as invaluable qualities for completing his run. 8. What encouraged Sam to set up his organization? A. A conversation with his brother. B. The sea pollution in Indonesia. C. The videos he watched. D. A match he played. 9. What decision did Sam make to protect the oceans? A. Meeting local leaders. B. Running across America. C. Creating something to replace plastics. D. Inviting people to give speeches in schools. 10. They showed their support with their actions 11. Which of the following words can best describe Sam Bencheghib? A. Impatient and outgoing. B. Friendly and honest. C. Strong-minded and helpful. D. Careful and hard-working D “It felt like magic.” Joshua Vermillion was describing the first time he used artificial intelligence (AI) to make an image. But for him, the rise of AI tools has been mostly positive. D. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
