W: Yes. I bought these pants for Jack, but they are a bit long for him. I need to find Mr. Brown to make a change to them. 2.C 【听力材料】 M: I can see the leading cyclists coming towards me now. They look very tired. W: It􀆳s hard work cycling in these mountains, although the snow has stopped. But the cloudy sky means weather conditions here today are perfect for racing. 3.B 【听力材料】 W: How is your chemistry course? M: I was very poor at it before. But luckily, I met a good teacher who always encouraged me to use different ways to deal with the same problem. Now my chemistry has improved a lot. 4.A 【听力材料】 W:Honey, would you rather we went by plane or by car? It􀆳s a five-hour drive, though. M:But look at these prices. For a forty-five-minute flight? W: The other option is to take the train, which would mean three hours, plus a short taxi ride to the hotel — it􀆳s roughly the same price. M:No way. I don􀆳t mind getting there a bit later. 5.C 【听力材料】 W: Steve,I􀆳ve heard that you􀆳re working on a flying ambulance. I only saw that in sci-fi mov- ies. M: Yes. The ambulances sometimes get stuck in the traffic jams. Flying ambulances won􀆳t have that problem. They􀆳l be able to fly straight to the accident and take care of people who are hurt. 6.C 7.B 【听力材料】 M: Mary, I heard you are looking for a new apartment. What kind of apartment do you need? W: I want to live alone. So one bedroom is OK. M: My cousin has such an apartment for rent. But the girl living in it now won􀆳t move out until February 20. Can you wait until then? W: No problem. My present rent wil be due the folowing day. So that is fine for me. Thanks, Adam. M: You􀆳re quite welcome. Now let􀆳s get down to work. We wil have a staff meeting in half an hour. 8.A 9.C 【听力材料】 W: Oh my! I haven􀆳t seen you for ages. What are you doing here? M: Wel. I was actualy just driving through. I remembered that you live here now. So I decided to stop by to surprise you. W: What a lovely surprise! Please come in. How have you been recently? M:I􀆳m actualy back in school. I􀆳m studying for my Master􀆳s degree. W: Incredible. I finished school a few years ago and since then I􀆳ve been busy with work. But I􀆳m thinking about taking some time off this summer. Maybe we could do some traveling togeth- er. 10.A 11.B 12.B 【听力材料】 M: Anna, there was a strong earthquake in Japan. W: When did it take place? M:It happened near the northeast coast of Japan on Wednesday night. There was a tsunami warning, but it was lifted the next morning. No large waves appeared. W: I hope it hasn􀆳t caused any deaths. M: Unfortunately, the quake kiled four people and left at least 140 people injured. Also, a train carrying about 100 people went off the rails because of the quake. And two major high- ways are being carefuly inspected before they can reopen. W: That􀆳s very bad. So I think it􀆳s necessary to know how to survive an earthquake. Do you know how to do that? M:Oh, I􀆳ve read an article about it. Are you interested? W:Yes. I􀆳m al ears. 13.A 14.C 15.A 16.B 【听力材料】 W: Justin, have you finished the first essay on Education Psychology? M: No. And I haven􀆳t looked at the second one on Classroom Approaches. But I have finished the assignment by Professor Evans, the one on Future Education. W: Would you like to share your ideas? M: Of course. My essay has two parts. The first part looks at the history of education. It in- cludes class sizes and how testing has changed over the years. But it lacks points about teacher training. W:What about your next part? M:It shows that nowadays the emphasis is on reward rather than punishment. W: So do you use an example or a graph to confirm it? M: Neither. I just compare modern approaches with traditional approaches in the classroom. W: Sounds good! How about closing the schools and learning online at home? M:It􀆳s hard to decide. On the one hand, kids can do the same project through the Internet. On the other hand, schools aren􀆳t just for learning, and they􀆳re equaly important for building so- cial skils. So, I􀆳m not very sure about that. 17.A 18.C 19.B 20.C 【听力材料】 W:Ashleigh Barty, the world No. 1 women􀆳s tennis player, shocked the sports world on Wednesday by announcing that she was retiring from tennis. Barty, who was just 25, said that it was time for her to chase other dreams. Barty made the announcement in a video. In the video, Barty discussed her thoughts about retiring with her good friend Casey Del- acqua. Delacqua, who is also a retired tennis player, used to be Barty􀆳s doubles partner. Barty made it clear that playing professional tennis at an extremely high level is very demanding and stressful. She said she knew how much work it took to bring the best out of herself. She added she didn􀆳t have that in her anymore. Even though she was only 25, Barty has been playing tennis for a long time. She started when she was four and turned professional ten years later. For over two years, Barty has been ranked the world No.1 women􀆳s tennis player. She has won 15 important women􀆳s singles tour- naments in her career. In 2019, Barty won the French Open. In 2021, she won Wimbledon. And in January 2022, she won the Australian Open. B As night fals on the streets of Shanghai, Mikiko Chen can often be found pacing up and down through the winding narrow streets of the city hunting for discarded items. “I pick up al sorts of things, chairs, wine boxes, bowls and cups...It􀆳s like a treasure hunt for me,” she says. The 27-year-old digital marketer is among the first adopters of “stooping” in China, a practice that refers to picking up discarded furniture and other goods on the streets for re -use. She says the concept of “stooping” was inspired by New Yorkers who often leave unwanted things on the “stoops” — or doorsteps — leading up to the entrances of buildings. “The core concept of stooping for me is to make the best use of things,” Ms. Chen says. “It can help you to save money, but it􀆳s not just about lowering consumption. It􀆳s wasteful to throw a- way something that􀆳s stil usable; it􀆳s better to share it with others who need it.” Ms. Chen says she was among the first to use the hashtag(话题标记)#stooping on Xiaohong- shu. “I initialy started with posting items that people no longer used and wanted to throw away or exchange...Gradualy I􀆳m receiving hundreds of messages each day,” she says. Since then, the trend has become increasingly popular. Ms. Chen says she is “very surprised” the concept has become a hit on social media, as older generations often stigmatize picking up things from the street or using second-hand goods. “Peo- ple like my mum consider stooping as ‘rubbish picking􀆳 and ‘scavenging’(拾荒),” she says. “She thinks that people wil look down on you for doing this.” For Nan Zheng, an environmentalist and advocate, stooping is more than the physical act of picking up things from the streets. He created an app caled “Grecycle” where people can give away YT4 英语试卷 第4 页(共8页) or take unwanted items for free. “I think we can let more people know about the concept of stoo- ping as an interesting and fun thing to do,” Mr. Nan says. “But then, gradualy we can let people know this can also be about charity and helping others.” 24.What can we learn about Mikiko Chen from paragraph 2 and 3? D.The older generations are addicted to stooping. 27.What is Nan Zheng􀆳s true intention of creating the app “Grecycle”? A.Recycling discarded things from the streets. B.Getting unwanted items for free on “Grecycle”. C.Exchanging items through “Grecycle”. D.Enhancing people􀆳s awareness of charity. C The oceans play a crucial role in lightening global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. However, in a study conducted by the University of Texas at Austin, researchers found that the oceans􀆳 capacity to absorb carbon dioxide would reach its maximum by 2100 and decrease to half of its current efficiency by 2300, based on a climate simulation(模拟) that was set for a worst-case emissions scenario(设想). The decline happens because of a surface layer of low-alkalinity(碱度) water that can hinder the ability of the oceans to absorb CO2. Alkalinity affects how much CO2 can dissolve in seawater. Although the emissions scenario used in the study is unlikely because of global efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions, the findings reveal a previously unknown tipping point that if activated would release an important brake on global warming. “We need to think about these worst-case scenarios to understand how our CO2 emissions might affect the oceans not just this century, but next century and the folowing century. Climate simulations had previously shown that the oceans slow their absorption of CO2 over time, but none had considered alkalinity as an explanation. We recalculated pieces of a 450-year simulation until we hit on alkalinity as a key cause of the slowing.” said Megumi Chikamoto, who led the research at the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics. The effect begins with extreme climate change, which slows ocean currents. This leaves the surface of the oceans covered in a warm layer of fresh water that won􀆳t mix easily with the cooler, more alkaline water below it. That means more of the greenhouse gas is left in the atmosphere. This in turn produces faster warming, which sustains and strengthens the low-alkalinity surface layer. Co-author, Pedro DiNezio, said that the discovery was a powerful reminder that the world needs to reduce its CO2 emissions to avoid crossing this and other tipping points. YT4 英语试卷 第5 页(共8页) 28.What may happen after the year 2300? A.More CO2 wil be absorbed by the oceans. B.The oceans wil lose al their current efficiency. C.The world wil face even more severe warming. D.The oceans wil be less crucial to global warming. 29.What does the underlined word “hinder” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Improve. B.Weaken. C.Protect. D.Control. 30.What does Megumi Chikamoto say about the oceans? A.Finding why they slow CO2 intake is hard. B.Their ability to absorb CO2 is at their maximum. C.They wil decide on the future of human beings. D.They wil slow down CO2 absorption very quickly. 31.Where is this text probably taken from? A.A biology textbook. B.A government report. C.Science fiction. D.An environmental journal. D Is forgiveness against our human nature? To answer our question, we need to ask a further question: What is the essence of our humanity? For the sake of simplicity, people consider two dis- tinctly different views of humanity. The first view involves dominance and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness, Drol(1984) made the interesting claim that humans􀆳 essential nature is more aggressive than forgiving alows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm. In his opinion, forgivers are compromising their wel-being as they offer mercy to others, who might then take advantage of them. The second view involves the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans. Researchers find that to fuly grow as human beings, we need both to receive love from and offer love to others. Without love, our connections with a wide range of indi- viduals in our lives can fal apart. Even common sense strongly suggests that the wil to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how wel has slavery(奴隶制) worked as a mode of social harmony? From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the bio- logical and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through scientific studies, is the decreasing of hatred and the restoration of harmony. Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to an extent the people from whom you are estranged(不和的) accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments. Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people. As an important note, when we take a classical Realism philosophical perspective, that of Ar- istotle, we see the distinction between potentiality and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capacity to forgive, but instead with the potential to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual appropriation in conflict situations, develops with practice. 32.What is Drol􀆳s idea about forgiveness? A.People should offer mercy to others. B.Aggressive people should learn to forgive. C.Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity. D.People who forgive can have their own welfare affected. 33.What does the example in paragraph 2 ilustrate? YT4 英语试卷 第6 页(共8页) A.To forgive is to love. B.To dominate is to harm. C.To fight is to grow. D.To give is to receive. 34.What is the writer􀆳s attitude toward forgiveness? A.Favorable. B.Reserved. C.Objective. D.Skeptical. 35.What is the message of the last paragraph? A.Forgiveness is in our nature. B.Forgiveness grows with time. C.It takes practice to forgive. D.Actuality is based on potentiality. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选 项。 When it comes to studying, most of us bank on being able to focus on our subject like a shoot- er focusing on his target. Jeff was twenty-seven and a successful business planner at a company — without a degree. His passion was sking. When he graduated from high school, he decided to decline his father􀆳s of- fer and, instead, to work with a ski patrol(滑雪巡逻队). With pain in his eyes, Jeff told me he stil remembered the day when he told his father he was going to give up colege and take a job at a ski resort. Hearing Jeff􀆳s decision, his father looked off into the distance. Then came the words that stil echoed in Jeff􀆳s mind:“You lazy kid. No son of mine is going to work with a ski patrol and does not attend colege. I should have known you􀆳d never amount to anything!” The two had not spoken since that conversation. Later, he was back in the area near where he grew up and he certainly did not want his father to know he was attending colege. He was doing this for himself, not for his father. He said it over and over again. Jeff􀆳s sister had always remained supportive of Jeff􀆳s decisions. She stayed in con- tact with their father, but Jeff had made her promise that she would not share any information a- bout his life with him. The day when the graduation ceremony came, I walked around talking to people before it star- ted. I noticed a man with a confused expression. “Excuse me,” he said as he politely approached me. “What is happening here today?” “It􀆳s the graduation day,” I replied, smiling. “Wel, that􀆳s odd,”he said. “My daughter asked me to meet her at this address.” His eyes sparkled and he smiled. “Maybe she completed her associate􀆳s degree and wanted to surprise me!” I helped him find a seat. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 As I left him, he said, “Thank you. By the way, my name􀆳s Dr. Holstrom.” Jeff was the last person to cross the stage.
