B Rounding the corner of my neighborhood park the other morning, I noticed a part of the landscape for the first time, though I’d walked the route for years. An old oak tree with a dozen big branches reaching the ground created a unique green curtain in the park. Groundskeepers placed a picnic table and benches inside, making it an outdoor room. Its cool shade and privacy were ideal for reading, chatting, or just relaxing. I mentally noted this scene, to cherish for the morning or maybe my whole life. What I’d encountered, I told myself as I wandered home, was my new happy place. Robert Frost’s famous 1923 poem of “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” is about a traveler who pauses for a few moments beside a stretch of forest that’s “lovely, dark and deep”. The visitor wants to stay longer, but he’s pushed away by the prospect of “miles to go before I sleep”. This homes in on the essence (本质) of happy places — that they draw us precisely because we can’t live within them indefinitely. Obligation unavoidably calls us elsewhere. But E. B. White, another of my favorite writers, pointed to a consoling (令人欣慰的) truth about the apparent short existence of happy places. Even when you can’t remain physically within a happy place, memory allows you to take it with you anywhere you go. “I have noticed that most men, when they enter a barber shop and must wait their turn, drop into a chair and pick up a magazine, ” he wrote. “I simply sit down and pick up the thread of my sea wandering, which began more than fifty years ago and is not quite ended. ” like Mr. White’s imaginary returns to the waves near his farm for its amazing particularity. His visions confirm that happy places are, at their best, real places we’ve known. My office computer has cheerful screen savers, but they’re not my happy places. A true happy place is a personal landmark. Happy places are more than dots on a map. They can become, in the wonder of remembrance, a geography of the heart. 4. Why does the author consider the oak tree area a happy place? A. It is a collection of rare plant species. B. It is a historical monument preservation. C. It is a popular picnic spot for the locals. D. It is a practical space with natural privacy. 5. Why does the author quote Robert Frost's poem? A. To criticize modern work pressures. B. To imply better scenery on the road. C. To illustrate the feature of happy places. D. To explain the boredom of travelling. 6. What does E. B. White’s example emphasize about happy places? A. Memories make them accessible. B. The physical presence is essential. C. Coastal regions are universally ideal. D. Daydreaming distracts people from reality. 7. According to the last paragraph, which of the following can be called a “geography of the heart”? A. A famous tourist attraction. B. A strong emotional memory. C. A professionally designed room. D. A technologically preserved image. C Dionisia Moreno, a 70-year-old native farmer, still remembers when Shallap River, nearly 13, 000 feet up in the Cordillera Blanca, brought clear water filled with trout (鳟鱼) to her village. “People and animals alike could drink the water without suffering,” she said. “Now the water is red. No one can drink it. ” At first glance, the river seems a victim of mining pollution as Peru, a major copper, silver, and gold producer, has rust-colored waters near abandoned mines. However, the real issue lies with the Cordillera Blanca s tropical glaciers (冰川). These glaciers, a major Peruvian freshwater source, are highly temperature-sensitive. Once refilled in winter, they've shrunk over 40% since 1968. Exposed rocks cause acid rock drainage (排水), polluting water, degrading ecosystems, and damaging basic facilities. To identify hot spots, Dr. Loayza and other scientists used satellite images to analyze the sunlight reflected by glacial lakes. Their model has identified 60 lakes in the Cordillera Blanca that are highly acidic. Dr. Loayza has confirmed acid rock drainage in five of the eight glacial valleys it has tested so far. Meltwaters are most acidified, and most filled with heavy metals, in the high Andes, where the glaciers are actively melting. At first, the melting of the glaciers brought an abundance of water. But research has shown that waters in the Cordillera Blanca have since passed “peak water,” meaning that less water is now leaking down in the dry season. That is going to leave a large surface of minerals exposed. One peak, Pastoruri, has already outflowed so much of its ice that it no longer qualifies as a glacier. Tourists once flocked to the mountain to ski, camp and climb its slopes. Today, meltwater gathers there in reddish pools that are like open wounds. Ms. Moreno said she longed for the abundance of her youth, when trout could be plucked from the river, thick snow and ice covered the peaks, springs flooded from the mountainside and grasses for cattle grew waist-high. She said, “They say the glaciers will disappear, and the rivers will run red,” she said. “That's coming true.” 8. What is the main reason for water pollution in Shallap River? A. The industrial landfills. B. The neighboring mining activities. C. The mineral reactions in rocks. D. The wide spread of animal waste. 9. Why do scientists analyze glacial lake sunlight? A. To track ice melting rates. B. To locate acidic water sources. C. To predict rainfall patterns. D. To identify pollution levels. 10. What does the change of Pastoruri peak imply? A. Tourism activities will be popular. B. More agricultural land is available. C. More mines are dug. D. The local ecosystem is damaged. 11. What does the underlined word “plucked” in the last paragraph mean? A. Caught. B. Lifted. C. Drawn. D. Removed. D Scottish writers and publishers are considering innovative ways to tackle challenges they face from artificial intelligence (AI). AI tools available include ones designed for research, and others that can suggest sentence structures, characteristics, dialogue options and plot twists. Scottish writer Peter Mackay is eager to encourage new writing. But he said: “I have got huge concerns about AI in terms of the creation of new literature and creation of new books, partly because as a writer it could be disastrous for new people who are in the profession. It’s very hard to make a living as a writer anyway and if you are having to compete with the knowledge of every book written before becoming some form of conglomerate (企业集团), that is very hard to do.” Last year, Mackay attended a workshop for writers, publishers and academics where AI was a topic of discussion. Attendees looked at how it might be possible to make it clear a piece of writing was not computer generated. Mr Mackay said, “One of the things that was discussed was a Harris Tweed Orb or Kitemark-style mark to say 100% AI-free or 100% organically produced.” Harris Tweed’s Orb logo is sewed in clothing to show the tweed has been handwoven and finished by islanders in the Western Isles, and made from wool dyed and spun (纺) in the islands. The Kitemark has been used as a trademark on UK-made products for more than 120 years. “I think one of the things book prizes do is celebrate strange things, celebrate diversity, celebrate distinctive style, the kind of thing that AI doesn’t do at the moment, ” he said. “It is the odd turn of phrase rather than the expected turn of phrase and I would hope that book prizes are still able to do that. They offer a marker of really interesting, new, distinctive voices. I’m afraid the first time a prize is won by something that turns out to be Al generated. Where would that leave the people who have been sitting for hours by themselves writing away having to compete with computer-generated poems, short stories and novels? ” 12. What can be inferred from Peter Mackay’s words in Paragraph 2? A. AI promotes to create literature. B. AI may reduce book sales globally。 C. AI enriches varying writing styles. D. Al threatens new writer’s livelihoods. 13. Why are the Harris Tweed Orb and Kitemark-style mentioned? A. To promote AI writing. B. To show AI’s advantages. C. To identify non-AI works. D. To highlight craftsmanship. 14. What does Mackay think literary awards should focus on? A. Making AI the new standard. B. Recognizing AI-generated works. C. Rewarding unique human writing. D. Promoting AI to work with writers. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. The Future of AI Writing Is Bright B. New Writing Needs Protection from AI C. Original Writing Fights against AI D. Meaning is all about our perception (知觉) of the past — specifically, the stories we tell ourselves about the past. Purpose is not about the past. ___16___ People often mistake purpose for meaning and think that by achieving their Big P Purpose — big goals — they will finally find happiness. ___17___ So, what’s the solution to this dilemma? ___18___ The key step to creating meaning in your life is recognizing that the stories we tell ourselves are powerful. If you’re telling yourself a victim story about your past, it’s time to rewrite that narrative. Instead of seeing yourself as a victim, start seeing yourself as a person who experienced hardship but overcame it. Shift to “little p” purpose. When it comes to purpose, focus less on the big goals, and more on the little actions that give you joy in the present moment. While Big P Purpose can be exciting, it’s also elusive (难捉摸的) and often unattainable in the short term. ___19___ These small, incremental (增加的) actions are what help you feel fulfilled in the now, rather than waiting for some future event to make you feel “enough.” Happiness is not a destination. ___20___ Don’t make the major mistake of thinking you can clear through life with just purpose alone and somehow achieve happiness. Meaning is the foundation. Purpose is the action. Together, they make for a richer, more fulfilling life. A. Work on your meaning. B. But it doesn’t always work. C. Actually they’re not interchangeable. D. It is all about the present and the future. E. Instead, focus on small things every day. F. Meaning is about our journey to happiness. G. It’s a delicate balance of meaning and purpose. Half an hour ago I was persuaded to tear my eyes away from the computer screen. Our home was often crowded with the presence of raccoons (浣熊) and even a fox that hung about freely among us. These early experiences with wildlife caused a deep-seated passion for animals in me, one that eventually led to an intense fascination with marine life. The process of caring for these animals involved not only feeding and nurturing them back to health but also learning about their habits and behaviors. It was this hands-on experience that taught me the importance of patience, observation, and respect for nature. During family vacations to Bermuda, I would spend countless hours watching whales from the shore, attracted by their grace and mystery. Today, after more than three decades, I continue to study whales and currently serve as the president of the Center for Cetacean Research and Conservation, primarily based in the Cook Islands and Bermuda. My work focuses on understanding whale behavior, migration (迁徙) patterns, and how we can better protect these gentle whales. In 2023, I set out on an ambitious project to create a documentary about whale conservation around Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands. Joining me on this voyage was my longtime friend and colleague, Liam. Together, we aimed to capture amazing footage of my interactions with humpback (座头鲸) whales, which usually involved me quietly slipping into the water to observe and cautiously record their behavior. That day, from our boat, we spotted a couple of humpbacks swimming not too far off. Deciding to get closer, I wore just a snorkel mask and a GoPro camera and slipped into the ocean, eager to document these awe-inspiring creatures up close. As I swam towards them, I felt a mix of excitement and admiration. Each stroke brought me nearer to these huge beings whose songs could be weakly heard echoing through the water. Liam remained on the boat, ready to assist if needed, his eyes fixed on me through a pair of binoculars As I approached, one of the male humpbacks swam directly toward me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly I noticed another shape in the water—an 18-foot man-eating shark! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 绝密★启用前 2024—2025学年安康市高三年级 英语试卷 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段“An old oak tree with a dozen big branches reaching the ground created a unique green curtain in the park. Groundskeepers placed a picnic table and benches inside, making it an outdoor room. Its cool shade and privacy were ideal for reading, chatting, or just relaxing.(一棵古老的橡树,有十几根粗大的树枝垂到地面,在公园里形成了一道独特的绿色帘幕。园林工人在里面放置了一张野餐桌和几条长凳,使它成为了一个户外房间。它凉爽的树荫和私密性非常适合阅读、聊天或只是放松一下。)”可知,作者认为橡树区域是一个快乐的地方,是因为它是一个有自然私密性的实用空间。故选D。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Robert Frost’s famous 1923 poem of ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ is about a traveler who pauses for a few moments beside a stretch of forest that’s “lovely, dark and deep”. The visitor wants to stay longer, but he’s pushed away by the prospect of ‘miles to go before I sleep’. This homes in on the essence (本质) of happy places — that they draw us precisely because we can’t live within them indefinitely. 根据第三段“But E. B. White, another of my favorite writers, pointed to a consoling (令人欣慰的) truth about the apparent short existence of happy places. Even when you can’t remain physically within a happy place, memory allows you to take it with you anywhere you go. ‘I have noticed that most men, when they enter a barber shop and must wait their turn, drop into a chair and pick up a magazine, ’ he wrote. ‘I simply sit down and pick up the thread of my sea wandering, which began more than fifty years ago and is not quite ended. ’ like Mr. White’s imaginary returns to the waves near his farm for its amazing particularity. His visions confirm that happy places are, at their best, real places we’ve known.(但是,我最喜欢的另一位作家 E.B. 可知,E.B. 故选A。 根据最后一段“A true happy place is a personal landmark. Happy places are more than dots on a map. They can become, in the wonder of remembrance. a geography of the heart.(一个真正的快乐之地是一个个人的地标。快乐之地不仅仅是地图上的点。在记忆的奇迹中,它们可以成为心灵的版图。)”可知,“心灵的版图”指的是通过记忆留存的对快乐之地的强烈情感记忆。故选B。 C Dionisia Moreno, a 70-year-old native farmer, still remembers when Shallap River, nearly 13, 000 feet up in the Cordillera Blanca, brought clear water filled with trout (鳟鱼) to her village. A. Caught. B. Lifted. C. Drawn. D. Removed. C 9. B 10. D 11. 根据文章第二段“However, the real issue lies with the Cordillera Blanca s tropical glaciers(冰川). These glaciers, a major Peruvian freshwater source, are highly temperature-sensitive. Once refilled in winter, they've shrunk over 40% since 1968. Exposed rocks cause acid rock drainage (排水), polluting water, degrading ecosystems, and damaging basic facilities.(然而,真正的问题出在布兰卡山脉的热带冰川上。这些冰川是秘鲁的主要淡水资源,对温度极为敏感。曾经在冬季能够重新积蓄的冰川,自1968年以来已经缩小了超过40%。裸露的岩石导致酸性岩石排水,污染了水源,破坏了生态系统,还损坏了基础设施。)”可知,水污染的主要原因是岩石中的矿物反应。故选C。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“To identify hot spots, Dr. Loayza and other scientists used satellite images to analyze the sunlight reflected by glacial lakes. Their model has identified 60 lakes in the Cordillera Blanca that are highly acidic.(为了确定“热点区域”,Loayza博士和其他科学家利用卫星图像来分析冰川湖泊反射的阳光。他们的模型已经确定,布兰卡山脉中有60个湖泊酸性极强。)”可知,科学家分析冰川湖泊反射的阳光是为了确定“热点区域”,即定位酸性水源。故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“One peak, Pastoruri, has already outflowed so much of its ice that it no longer qualifies as a glacier. Tourists once flocked to the mountain to ski, camp and climb its slopes. Today, meltwater gathers there in reddish pools that are like open wounds.(其中一座山峰Pastoruri,其冰层已经大量消融,不再符合冰川的定义。 Moreno said she longed for the abundance of her youth, when trout could be plucked from the river, thick snow and ice covered the peaks, springs flooded from the mountainside and grasses for cattle grew waist-high.(Moreno女士说,她怀念自己年轻时物资丰饶的时光,那时可以从河里轻松……鳟鱼,厚厚的冰雪覆盖着山峰,山间的泉水奔涌而出,供牛群食用的青草长得齐腰高。)”可知,Moreno女士怀念年轻时物资丰饶的时光,那时鳟鱼可以从河里“plucked”,结合语境可知,这里表达的是能从河里捕获鳟鱼。选项A“caught”,意为“捕获、抓住”,符合从河里获取鳟鱼的意思。故选A。 D Scottish writers and publishers are considering innovative ways to tackle challenges they face from artificial intelligence (AI). Distinctive Voices Are Ensured in the Age of AI 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. C 15. 根据第二段中Peter Mackay所说“I have got huge concerns about AI in terms of the creation of new literature and creation of new books, partly because as a writer it could be disastrous for new people who are in the profession. It’s very hard to make a living as a writer anyway and if you are having to compete with the knowledge of every book written before becoming some form of conglomerate, that is very hard to do.(我对人工智能在新文学和新书创作方面深感担忧,部分原因是作为一名作家,这对行业新人可能是灾难性的。无论如何,作家谋生本就艰难,若还要与过往所有书籍知识汇聚而成的‘企业集团式’力量竞争,实在难以为继。)”可知,AI对新作家的生计构成威胁。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Attendees looked at how it might be possible to make it clear a piece of writing was not computer generated. The Kitemark has been used as a trademark on UK-made products for more than 120 years.(与会者研究了如何才能明确一篇文章不是电脑生成的。 根据最后一段“I think one of the things book prizes do is celebrate strange things, celebrate diversity, celebrate distinctive style, the kind of thing that AI doesn’t do at the moment(我认为文学奖项的意义在于表彰独特、多样且具个性的作品,这正是AI目前无法做到的)”和“They offer a marker of really interesting, new, distinctive voices.(奖项应成为真正有趣、新颖且独特创作的标志。)” 文章开篇指出苏格兰作家和出版商在考虑应对 AI 挑战的创新方法;接着通过作家Peter Mackay的话,说明AI对新作家生计构成威胁,如“as a writer it could be disastrous for new people who are in the profession. It’s very hard to make a living as a writer anyway and if you are having to compete with the knowledge of every book written before becoming some form of conglomerate, that is very hard to do(作为一名作家,这对行业内的新人来说可能是灾难性的。 Over 2,500 years ago, Aristotle said, “Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” Happiness is made up of two ingredients: meaning and purpose. D 17. B 18. A 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Happiness is made up of two ingredients: meaning and purpose. Meaning is all about our perception (知觉) of the past — specifically, the stories we tell ourselves about the past. Purpose is not about the past.(幸福由两个要素组成:意义和目标。意义完全关乎我们对过去的认知——具体而言,就是我们给自己讲述的关于过去的故事。目标则与过去无关)”说明幸福由意义和目标组成,意义与对过去的认知有关,目标与过去无关,此处应说明目标与什么有关。D项“It is all about the present and the future.(它完全与现在和未来有关)”符合语境,其中It指代Purpose,进一步阐述了目标的时间范畴,与上文形成对比,说明目标与过去无关,而是关于现在和未来。故选D项。 【17题详解】 根据上文“People often mistake purpose for meaning and think that by achieving their Big P Purpose — big goals — they will finally find happiness.(人们常常把目标错当成意义,认为通过实现他们的大目标——宏大的目标——他们最终会找到幸福)”以及下文“So, what’s the solution to this dilemma?(那么,这个困境的解决方案是什么呢?)” 【18题详解】 根据下文“The key step to creating meaning in your life is recognizing that the stories we tell ourselves are powerful.(在你的生活中创造意义的关键一步是认识到我们告诉自己的故事是强大的)”可知,此段主要围绕在生活中创造意义展开。 故选A项。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Shift to ‘little p’ purpose. When it comes to purpose, focus less on the big goals, and more on the little actions that give you joy in the present moment. While Big P Purpose can be exciting, it’s also elusive (难捉摸的) and often unattainable in the short term.(转向‘小目标’。当谈到目标时,少关注大目标,多关注那些能在当下给你带来快乐的小行动。虽然大目标可能令人兴奋,但它也难以捉摸,而且在短期内往往无法实现)”可知,这里强调要关注小行动,而不是大目标。E项“Instead, focus on small things every day.(相反,每天关注小事情)”符合语境,Instead表示转折,进一步强调了要关注每天的小事情,与上文内容一致,即关注能带来当下快乐的小行动。故选E项。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Happiness is not a destination.(幸福不是一个目的地)”以及下文“Don’t make the major mistake of thinking you can clear through life with just purpose alone and somehow achieve happiness. Meaning is the foundation. Purpose is the action. Together, they make for a richer, more fulfilling life.(不要犯这样一个大错误,即认为你可以仅仅依靠目标就能度过一生并以某种方式获得幸福。 Half an hour ago I was persuaded to tear my eyes away from the computer screen. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 As I approached, one of the male humpbacks swam directly toward me. Its massive body loomed large, yet its movements were surprisingly gentle. I could see the barnacles clinging to its skin and the scars from past encounters. It seemed curious about me, too, slowing down as it got closer. I held my breath, trying not to startle it. Then, to my amazement, it let out a low, mournful song that vibrated through the water, sending shivers down my spine. I quickly adjusted my GoPro, determined to capture this once-in-a-lifetime moment. Suddenly I noticed another shape in the water—an 18-foot man-eating shark! Fear shot through me. The shark circled menacingly, its cold eyes fixed on me. I knew I had to stay calm. The humpback, sensing the danger, positioned itself between me and the shark. It thrashed its powerful tail, creating a strong current that pushed the shark back. The shark lunged a few times but was no match for the humpback’s strength. With a final angry snap, the shark swam away. I swam back to the boat as fast as I could, filled with gratitude for my unexpected protector. This encounter would be a powerful story to tell for whale conservation. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看见:see/spot/catch sight of ②使惊吓:frighten/startle ③保持:stay/keep 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment/amazement ②感激:thankfulness/gratitude/appreciation 【点睛】[高分句型1] I held my breath, trying not to startle it.(运用了现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] Then, to my amazement, it let out a low, mournful song that vibrated through the water, sending shivers down my spine.
