If you’re going to visit Barcelona, what are you going to do there? Read our guides for some really cool ideas.
Gaudi buildings
You’re going to see a lot of Gaudi buildings with bright colors. But who or what is Gaudi? He was an architect from Barcelona. Some people say he was a terrible student, but his buildings are amazing. One of the best places to see Gaudi’s extraordinary designs is Parc Guel. It is a great place to hang out with friends and escape from the noise of the city.
Museums
Take the train to the Dali Theater Museum. It’s pink on the outside, with huge eggs on the roof. Inside, you can see some of Dali’s paintings. Or go to the Picasso Museum in the center of the city and see a large collection of his paintings.
Nou Camp
If you are into football, plan a visit to the Nou Camp, home of FC Barcelona. There’s space for around 100,000 people, so it’s the second largest football stadium in Europe.
Amusement parks
Port Aventura is about an hour from the city by train, but it’s worth it. If you’re brave, you can ride the tallest and fastest roller coaster (过山车) in Europe, but there are also gentle rides and nice restaurants and cafes. Or, if you prefer to stay in Barcelona, an old-fashioned blue tram will take you up the mountain to the Tibidabo park, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. Apart from looking at the city from the top of the mountain, you can enjoy 25 rides, including a big wheel and a really scary roller coaster.
21. What do we know about Parc Guel?
A. It is a noisy but amazing place. B. It’s a good place for a free walk.
C. It is home to the architect Gaudi. D. It’s an extraordinary Gaudi building.
22. Which is the best suggestion to a soccer fan?
A. Parc Guel. B. Port Aventura.
C. Nou Camp. D. Dali Theater Museum.
23. What do Port Aventura and the Tibidabo park have in common?
A. Exciting roller coaster service. B. Fantastic restaurants and cafes.
C. A good view of Barcelona. D. Wonderful camping activities.

Once plentiful around the world, the number of peregrine falcons (游隼) began to decline after World War II with the introduction of pesticides like dieldrin, aldrin and DDT. Dieldrin and aldrin killed the birds instantly, while DDT weakened chicks’ eggshells, lowering their possibility of survival.
In the US, the falcons’ number reached a low point of 324 pairs in 1974 — a massive decline from the more than 3,800 pairs counted before the mid-20th century. Peregrine falcons were placed on the federal endangered species list in 1970. In Yosemite, the last known pair were seen in 1941.
The US Environmental Protection Agency banned the use of DDT in 1972. Two years later, the agency banned most uses of aldrin and dieldrin, with an exception for white ant control.
Not long after the bans took effect, four climbers made a surprising discovery while climbing Yosemite’ s El Capitan in 1978: an active peregrine falcon nest, which had not been seen in the area for decades. They reported their find to the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group, who quickly sprang into action. They came up with an ambitious plan and asked the climbers if they wanted to help. At their request, the climbers once again scaled El Capitan, but this time, they collected samples of eggs from the nest and brought them back down for testing.
The eggs were delicate and thin, so researchers decided to hatch them in a laboratory, and then return the chicks to the nest. Rock climbers helped with this, too, but much to the chagrin of the protective peregrine falcon parents: As the climbers carefully removed eggs or replaced chicks, the falcons dive-bombed them — one bird even struck a climber’s backpack.
Peregrine falcons were removed from the endangered species list in 1999. As many as 40,000 individuals may now be soaring freely in North America, according to the American Bird Conservancy. Without the cooperation of climbers, peregrine falcons might still be struggling to gain a foothold in Yosemite. Instead, the birds’ recovery is a rare success story where humans prioritized the needs of other species above their own.
24. Why were peregrine falcons placed on the federal endangered species list?
A. Because pesticides were too powerful.
B. Because many climbers were flooding there.
C. Because the birds were on the way to dying out.
D. Because the birds couldn’t survive the weather changes.
25 How did the four climbers assist the researchers?
A. By collecting eggs and returning the chicks. B. By searching for more active nests.
C. By monitoring the hatching of eggs. D. By carrying out tests on eggs.
26. What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A. There are too many Peregrine falcons in North America now.
B. A remarkable strategy brought back Peregrine falcons.
C. Humans should live in harmony with each other.
D. Humans can change the behaviors of other species.
27. Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?
A. Climbers Volunteer to Help B. Peregrine Falcons and Mountain Climbers
C. Peregrine Falcons Survive Pesticides D. Peregrine Falcons Are Returning
C
Some dogs are being sent to help rewild an urban nature reserve in England. What do they have to do? Walk around while wearing special holey (有孔的) backpacks that are filled with seeds.
The pilot project is underway at a 25-acre park in Lewes, a small town in East Sussex, England, roughly 50 miles south of London. The park gets a lot of foot traffic from both humans and dogs, which has caused some areas to become degraded. While researching possible solutions, park managers learned about an innovative rewilding project in Chile: After wildfires burned the landscape in 2017, three border collies wearing backpacks filled with seeds were sent to help restore it. They wondered if something similar might work at the reserve, which is already a popular exercise spot for dog owners and their furry companions. They selected ten pet dogs, outfitted them with the special backpacks and sent them to a wooded area that had lost most of its ground vegetation, such as grasses and wildflowers.
They filled the backpacks with the seeds of 23 plants, including foxgloves, bluebells and early purple orchids. They also mixed in some sand to help track where the dogs walked so that they could cut back some of the trees in the area to let in more sunlight.
“The project seems to be already working: Some plants have started sprouting (发芽),” reports The Times. “But it’s still early. Because many of the species are perennials, park managers expect to see even more blooms next spring.”
Dogs are often criticized by nature conservation professionals. Off the lead, they can disturb grazing animals, ground-nesting birds and more. But what if we reimagined dogs as our semi-wild partners working with us to protect species and habitats? Might it be possible to reimagine dogs and their owners as the heroes for nature instead of the villains?
28. What do we know about the 25-acre park in Lewes?
A. Its rewilding project has not started.
B. It has been walked on by too many people and dogs.
C. Its landscape was seriously burned by the 2017 fire.
D. It was the world’s first place to do such rewilding researches.
29. What does the underlined “collies” most probably refer to in Paragraph 2?
A. Dogs. B. Birds. C. Cats. D. Rats.
30. What is The Times’ attitude toward the project?
A. Doubtful. B. Appreciative. C. Cautious. D. Indifferent.
31. What does the author think of the dogs’ role in the project?
A. They should be criticized. B. They frighten the birds there.
C. They disturb grazing animals. D. They are sure to be of help.
D
The social media platform Instagram once made headlines for limiting likes in an effort to reduce the comparisons and hurt feelings resulting from attaching popularity to sharing content. But do these efforts resolve mental health issues, or are they simply applying a band-aid to a wound?
“It’s a small step in the right direction,” says Jacqueline Sperling, a psychologist who works with youth who experience anxiety disorders. “Even if you remove the likes, there continue to be opportunities for comparisons and feedback. People still can compare themselves to others, and people still can post comments.”
Social platforms are designed to be addictive and are related to anxiety, depression, and even physical ailments. This puts a large amount of the population at an increased risk of feeling anxious, depressed, or ill over their social media use. But what makes users come back for more even when it can literally make them feel sick?
“When the outcome is unpredictable, the behavior is more likely to repeat. Think of a slot machine (老虎机): if game players knew they were never going get money by playing the game, then they never would play,” says Sperling. “The idea of a potential future reward keeps the machines in use. The same goes for social media sites. One does not know how many likes a picture will get, who will like the picture, and when the picture will receive likes. The unknown outcome and the possibility of a desired outcome can keep users engaged with the sites.”
FOMO — fear of missing out — also impacts the youth greatly. Teenagers hope to keep track of friends’ activities. If everyone else is using social media sites, and if you don’t join in, there’s concern that you’ll miss chats, jokes, connections, or invitations. Missing experiences can create anxiety and depression. When people look online and see they’ re excluded from an activity, it can affect thoughts and feelings, and can affect them physically.
In addition to limiting likes, as Instagram has done, Sperling suggests social platforms consider decreasing mass sharing. They might function more as messaging services by highlighting one-on-one communications. Regardless of how likely social media giants are to change their ways, though, individuals can take control of their own behavior.
32 What is the cause of mental issues mentioned in the first paragraph?
A. Sharing content on social media. B. Limiting likes on social media.
C. The popularity of the Instagram. D. Efforts to reduce comparisons.
33. What does Jacqueline Sperling think of Instagram’s measure of limiting likes?
A. It is well-known. B. It is practical.
C. It sounds funny. D. It is of limited use.
34. What makes users of social platforms come back though it may make them feel sick?
A. Money to make. B. Improved pictures.
C. Unexpected payback. D. Engagement with sites.
35. Which of the following does the author agree with?
A. Social platforms must prevent mass sharing.
B. Users should mind their behavior on social platforms.
C. Users of social platforms should post different comments.
D. Social platforms should only provide one-on-one communication service.

We met Amanda at the pickup area of a New York subway station several years ago. She was a German Shepherd dog (牧羊犬). She came to us in a small box. We adopted her from an out-of-state raiser who posted the news on the social network. Our only request was that she have a calm behavior, able to bear the pushing and hugging of our little kids.
Before Amanda appeared in our life, I had thought we were a common and sweet family: me, my husband, and our little two children Jack and Johnson. But for years, I’d felt as if we wouldn’t really be complete until we had a dog. Also, my husband worked in a business company and had to travel some 200 days a year for his job, and I knew I’d feel safer with a large animal sleeping around the house.
When we opened the box, the last piece of our puzzle fell into place. With her black hair and intelligent eyes, Amanda was quite beautiful. She was so small that she fit into the palm of my hand, her big paws lapping over the sides. She was also a little bit scared. As I pulled her close, I felt her heart pound and wondered if we’d done the right thing, taking her from her mother. But it was too late. Jack and Johnson were already fighting over who would hold her next and who should have the right to take a bath for her.
Over the following months, we all took much interest in watching Amanda attached to Jack and Johnson. She would also play with her toy and roll around the living room floor. Like most Shepherd dogs, she was smart. She must have considered herself as one of the family.

【66题答案】
【答案】范文
With spring approaching, all lives were coming back to life. I couldn’t wait to get out. Last weekend, my parents and I set out early in the morning to climb a nearby mountain. In the beginning, we laughed all the way, appreciating its natural beauty and heavy culture. However, I, half an hour later, felt quite exhausted. I was at the point of giving up when a man, whose leg seemed to be a little disabled, passed me at a slow but steady pace. Greatly encouraged by him, I gathered my strength and followed him all the way to the destination. It was then that I thought of the famous saying: success belongs to the most persevering.
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】One night, I was sleeping in the bedroom when I was woken up by some noise. Without my husband around, I was first a little scared. After a while, curiosity defeated my fear. I tiptoed to open the door carefully. It was too dark to see anything in the living room. Then I couldn’t choose but switch on the light. How relieved I was to see it was Amanda that made the noise. “It’s time for sleeping, Amanda. Don’t walk around.” I shouted at her angrily. A surprise! She didn’t follow my order this time.
At that time, Amanda ran towards me. She looked at me, quite uneasy. I was sure she was even shaking. Then she walked towards the kitchen, looking back from time to time, as if to beg me to follow her. As soon as I opened the kitchen door, a heat almost pushed me over. The pot on the stove was on fire. I must have forgotten to turn off the gas before going to the sleep. Thanks God. I managed to put off the fire by covering the pot with a wet coat. How blessed I am to have a dog like Amanda! She is more than a family member. She is our hero.
