Ⅰ. 1.His classic novel The Last Days of Pompeii imagines life in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii in the year 79,when Mount Vesuvius erupted(erupt).(P25,Lines 2-4) when引导定语从句,修饰the year 79;The Last Days of Pompeii作His classic novel的同位语。 2.Its ashy(ash) rocks, now dark, now light, told a story of past eruptions that might have warned the city what was to come!(P25,Para.1) now dark, now light作rocks的定语,表示先后两个状态;that引导定语从句,修饰先行词a story;what was to come作warn的直接宾语,其中be to do结构表将来;might have done表示“过去本可以做而实际并没有做”,含有轻微的责备或惋惜之意。 3.The crowd looked upwards, and saw, with unspeakable fear,a huge cloud shooting from the top of the volcano.(P25,Para.2) and连接两个并列谓语looked和saw;saw...a huge cloud shooting... 4.So came(come) the earthquake...and so ended life in Pompeii.(P26,Para.4) 结构分析:此句是and连接的并列句。 5.Long after fire and ash came for the people of Pompeii, the remains of their beautiful city survive to remind us that human lives burn bright and short.(P26,Para.5) after引导时间状语从句;主句是主谓结构,其中to remind us... Its walls were fresh as if painted yesterday;not a single colour changed on the rich pattern of its floors.(P26,Para.5) •as if引导从句中的语气和时态: (1)陈述语气(真实或极有可能发生) 2虚拟语气 ———————————————————————————————————————— (1)She described the destructive typhoon to us so vividly as if she had experienced(experience) herself. (2)(读后续写之心情描写)When his mother kisses him on the cheek,it seems as if the baby were(be) on top of the world. We discussed my opinion for a while, and I felt he was eyeing me doubtfully as if saying how stupid it was. Hearing the news that her hometown was hit by the flood,Mary froze with shock,as if/though rooted to the ground. 经典小说a classic novel 4.使……保持原来的样子keep sth as it was 5.国际旅游胜地an international tourist destination 6.……的缩影、模型a model of 7.商船trading ships 8.和……一起along with 9.在光滑如镜的水中in the glassy water 10.向四面八方in all directions 11. 的形式take the form of 15.一种淡而渐逝的红色a pale and dying red 16. 在那一刻at that moment 18.在远处in the distance 19.屋顶坍塌的巨响the crash of falling roofs 20. 一阵灰烟a shower of ashes 22.到处,各处far and wide 23.许多嘈杂的巨响many a noisy crash 24.推挤对方push against the other 25.与……分离be separated from 26. (occur) It occurred to me yesterday that last time you told me you wanted to know more about traditional Chinese culture. 2. (inform) Therefore,I’m writing to inform you that there will be a Chinese paper-cutting exhibition in our school and invite you to visit it. 3. (shock) You will be shocked that many paper-cutting works on show are created by famous artists. 4. (as if) After visiting the exhibition, you may feel as if you were a Chinese who is familiar with Chinese paper-cutting. 5. (curious) If you’re curious to learn more detailed information about the exhibition, please contact me. Dear Lucy, I hope this letter finds you well. Yours, Li Hua Ⅱ.阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共20分) A Researchers have discovered many recent Marsquakes on the Red Planet. Those shakes are likely signs that magma(岩浆) move deep under the Martian surface. Since touching down on Mars four years ago,NASA’s InSight lander has found more than 1,000 Marsquakes. One of its tools records quake waves. Those waves show information about a quake’s size and location. Earlier this year, scientists showed that several Marsquakes came from a particular part of Mars. It’s known as Cerberus Fossae. Those quakes were a type pretty familiar to quake experts, states Anna Mittelholz,a planetary scientist at Harvard University.“Their low-frequency waves look much more like what we see for an earthquake,” she says. Mittelholz was part of a team that has studied many more Marsquakes. These include more than 1,000 high-frequency small quakes. The signals are fairly weak.To find out their origins, her team added the signals together. These quakes, too, seemed to come from the direction of Cerberus Fossae. Scientists were surprised to find that different types of quakes all came from the same region on Mars.Previous research had suggested Marsquakes might be caused by the slow cooling and shrinking(收缩) of the planet’s surface. That process, which also occurs on the moon, should produce quakes spread equally across the planet. As such,Mitteiholz says,“The expectation was that Marsquakes would come from all over the place.” Her team also compared the weak waves that InSight measured with those produced on Earth.Marsquakes looked like earthquakes that came from volcanic regions, the researchers found. That means Mars’ shakes are probably produced by magma flowing tens of kilometers below the planet’s surface. Rather than being a geologically dead planet,as some have suggested,Mars might be surprisingly active, the researchers conclude. There’s still so much more to learn about Mars, says Mitteiholz.“We’re only touching the surface.” 1.Why are the quake waves on Mars familiar to scientists? A.They are like the waves on Earth. B.They are sent from the same place. C.They are weak enough to be sensed. D.They are full of all kinds of information. 根据第三段中的“‘Their low-frequency waves look much more like what we see for an earthquake,’ she says.” A。 2.Why is the moon mentioned in paragraph 5? A.To show quakes on the moon are common. B.To give an easy explanation of earthquakes. C.To show the similarity between the moon and Earth. D.To prove Marsquakes may have little to do with temperatures. D。 3.What do the scientists conclude about Mars? A.Mars is a secret to them. B.Mars is a relatively dead planet. C.Mars might be still volcanically active. D.Mars has more quakes than Earth. 根据最后一段中的“Rather than being a geologically dead planet,as some have suggested,Mars might be surprisingly active, the researchers conclude.” C。 4.What is the text? A.A short story. .A science report. C.A space diary. .A book review. B。 B Over the last two days in December last year, nearly 30 tornadoes caused great damage across six states—from Arkansas in the south to Illinois in the midwest.More than 100 tornado warnings were issued—the most ever for a day.The tornado in Kentucky caused at least 50 people’s deaths, which was described as the worst in this state’s history. As one of the largest countries in the world, the United States is also one of the most geographically various countries—from deserts to forests to miles of coastline. While this comes with many advantages,it unfortunately leaves the country easily damaged by all kinds of natural disasters. Different parts of the United States face different types of natural disasters. The west coast is at risk of wildfires, earthquakes, and even volcanic eruptions. The southern part of the country is frequently hit by tornadoes, and the east coast faces the threat of serious hurricanes every year.Midwestern areas near rivers are often flooded by huge floods, and these are the worst floods in American history. The governments reviewed the weather event in each state’s history that caused the highest number of deaths to determine the worst natural disaster in every state. Thanks to their location and geographic research, some states made preparations ahead of time to avoid mass-casualty(重大伤亡的) weather events. However, many other parts of the country have been less fortunate, experiencing massive storms and floods. Many such events, like the 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston of Texas, killed so many people that it was impossible to get an exact number of final deaths, especially during that time. American weather continues to become more changeable. In 2018,there were 14 weather events that caused over $1 billion in damage. And in many parts of the country, these weather events could become even more destructive(毁灭性的) because of global warming. 5.What do we know from the figures in paragraph 1? A.America suffered from serious natural disasters. B.Tornadoes were the greatest threat to Americans. C.The tornado in Kentucky was the worst in America. D.Less and less natural disasters hit America. A。 6.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A.The worst floods in American history. B.The earthquakes in the west coast of the US. C.The hurricanes along the east coast of the US. D.The natural disasters in different parts of the US. D。 7.Which of the following can best describe American’s weather in the future? A.Controllable. B.Unchangeable. C.Worrying. D.Pleasant. C。 8.What may be the best title for the text? A.A Serious Tornado in Kentucky B.A Weather Report from the US C.Tornadoes Causing Great Damage D.Common Natural Disasters in the US 答案 D 解析 标题归纳题。 Ⅲ.七选五(每小题2.5分,共12.5分) How to Keep Pets Safe in a Disaster Pet owners may face challenges during natural disasters. 1 The better you can prepare, the more readily you can keep you and your pets safe.Below is some advice for keeping your pets safe in a disaster. Create a disaster plan. Preparing before a natural disaster is key to keeping everyone in your family, including your pets, safe.Stock your home with supplies needed to shelter in place in the event of an emergency, and figure out where you’ll go if you have to escape from your home. 2 Microchip(植微型芯片于) your pets. Have your pets microchipped and ensure your contact information is filed correctly in case your pets get lost.Pet microchips are radio-frequency identification implants(植入物). 3 If someone finds your pet without a collar, they can have the identification checked. Develop crate acceptance. 4 You can make this experience more tolerable by investing in a quality crate and getting your animal used to it in everyday life. You can start by taking your pets on short car rides in their crates—with treats, walks in the park and favorite activities before and after the journey. 5 Even the disaster has ended,it’s important not to let your pets run freely. They may be frightened by the visual of the aftermath. When an all-clear signal is given, ensure your pets are tied or crated before you venture out so they don’t potentially hurt themselves or become lost. A.Always bring pets with you. B.Be careful after the all-clear. C.Bring pets inside at the first sign of danger. D.Remember to choose a pet-friendly destination. E.They aren’t tracking devices but contain unique ID numbers. F.Pets may become anxious while experiencing a natural disaster. G.In an emergency, your pet may need to spend a long time in a crate for safety. 根据设空处上文“...figure out where you’ll go if you have to escape from your home.” D项中的destination与上文中的where you’ll go相呼应。故选D。 3. 和下文“If...,they can have the identification checked.” Ⅳ.语法填空(每小题1.5分,共15分) Easy Ways to Build Vocabulary It’s not all that hard to build an advanced and large vocabulary.Like many things in life,it’s 1. ongoing process, and the best part of the process is that there’s enough room for improvement,2. means you’ll just keep getting better and better.Of course you have to work at it.You wouldn’t think that a few 3.
