I'm honor to talk to your class today about something I know a thing or two about being afraid. As you can see, I was born without arms. Every time I fell down, I was scared that I wouldn't be able to get up. My parents were too poor to afford plastic arms for me, but luckily, one of my doctors, doctor Wilson, showed me how to use my feet to do everything. Once I could do a few things by myself, I didn't feel scared of being alone anymore. In high school, everyone in my class made fun of me every morning. I was afraid of what they would say that was the hardest in darkest time in my life. But my teacher, mrs. Dt, made sure I state focused on my school work. SHE taught me to be strong and confident. Once I realized that I didn't matter what other people thought of me. I wasn't scared of being in the crowds anymore. Now that I have my own successful law company in manchester, I can afford those plastic arms. Maybe I will give them one day, but for now, my missing arms remind me every day that I don't have anything to be afraid of. Thank you, ms. Jackson. B 23. 根据第二段“Our Cambridge museum is a great place to bring primary school groups, especially those studying the Ancient Greeks or Romans. We can also support both the Classics and the Art curriculum (课程) at secondary level: students studying the ancient world will benefit from student tours, while those studying art can improve their drawing skills.(我们的剑桥博物馆是带小学小组的好地方,尤其是那些学习古希腊或罗马的学生。我们还可以支持中学阶段的古典文学和艺术课程:学习古代世界的学生将从学生旅游中受益,而学习艺术的学生可以提高他们的绘画技能)”可知,博物馆明确提到其教育服务是为不同年龄段的学生量身定制的,帮助他们学习古代希腊或罗马文化、古典学和艺术等内容。由此推知,博物馆的主要目的是支持学校的课程学习,而不是单纯地促进旅行本身。故选C。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据Planning Your Visit部分的第二段中的“To book an in-person or virtual visit, please use our online booking request form. (如需亲自或虚拟参观,请使用我们的在线预订申请表)”和“Please note: we ask that all school trips are booked at least seven days in advance. (请注意:我们要求所有学校旅行至少提前七天预订)”可知,学校参观博物馆前必须提前一周填写预订申请表。故选B。 【23题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Download the Teacher’s Pack for helpful guidelines to maximize your visit. (请下载教师资料包,以获取有助于最大化您参观体验的有用指南)”可推知,这篇文章的目标读者是学校的老师。故选A。 B Dr. Myron Rolle, who shifted to his childhood dream of becoming a neurosurgeon (神经外科医生) after his N.F.L. (美国国家橄榄球联盟) career was stopped. He grew up in New Jersey. At 11 he’d read Gifted Hands, Ben Carson’s popular 1990 autobiography. It detailed how Carson went from being an inner-city youth with poor grades to the director of neurosurgery. After reading it, Rolle started running after two dreams. He wanted to be a professional football player and a neurosurgeon like Carson. For years, the neurosurgeon dream lay dormant. Rolle stood out playing as a defensive back for Florida State University (FSU). The Titans drafted him in 2010. But the football dream didn’t go as planned. Rolle played in no regular-season N.F.L. games. The Titans parted ways with him in 2011. He returned home to New Jersey, where he sank into a panic. His mother showed him his grade-school notebook. He saw where he had written both goals. “She looked me straight in the eyes and pointed at the first one,” he recalled. “She said, ‘This one’s done. Now we need to do this.’” “It was the most depressed I’ve been in my life,” he said. When asked how much he struggled with giving up his N.F.L. dream, he referred to the 2 percent philosophy that he picked up from his football coach at FSU — Can you be 2 percent better than you were yesterday? You can if you take small steps every single day toward a larger goal. “If you look at the outside, you will see my story as maybe something that is unable to achieve. I played in the N.F.L. and I was a Rhodes Scholar and now neurosurgeon. But doubts and uncertainty really went throughout my life. Dealing with work-life balance issues or challenges in the workplace — I just found ways to overcome these challenges.” 24. What inspired Myron Rolle to struggle for his dreams when he was young? A. The popularity of Gifted Hands. B. The story of N.F.L. game. C. Ben Carson’s struggling experience. D. Ben Carson’s failure lesson. 25. What do the underlined words “lay dormant” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Came true. B. Went smooth. C. Fell apart. D. Lay aside. 26. What was the most disappointing moment for Myron Rolle? A. Giving up the football dream. B. Going back to his hometown. C. Letting his mother down. D. Seeing the former notebook. 27. What can we learn from Rolle’s words in the last paragraph? A. Challenges bring precious opportunities. B. Everything happens for some reason. C. When one door closes, another opens. D. Enthusiasm keeps dream come true. C 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第二段“At 11 he’d read Gifted Hands, Ben Carson’s popular 1990 autobiography. It detailed how Carson went from being an inner-city youth with poor grades to the director of neurosurgery. After reading it, Rolle started running after two dreams.(11岁时,他读了Ben Carson1990年出版的畅销自传《天才之手》。书中详细描述了Carson是如何从一个成绩不佳的市中心青年成长为神经外科主任的。读完这本书后,Rolle开始追逐两个梦想)”可知,是Ben Carson的挣扎经历激励Myron Rolle在年轻时为自己的梦想而奋斗。故选C项。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据后文“Rolle stood out playing as a defensive back for Florida State University (FSU). The Titans drafted him in 2010. But the football dream didn’t go as planned. Rolle played in no regular-season N.F.L. games. The Titans parted ways with him in 2011.(Rolle在佛罗里达州立大学(FSU)担任防守后卫,表现出色。2010年,泰坦队选中了他。但橄榄球的梦想并没有按计划实现。罗尔没有参加过任何一场N.F.L.的常规赛。2011年,泰坦队与他分道扬镳)”可知,多年来,Rolle一直在追寻成为职业足球运动员的梦想,所以神经外科医生的梦想一直被搁置。由此推知,划线词组lay dormant是“搁置”之意,和D项意思相近。故选D项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段““It was the most depressed I’ve been in my life,” he said. When asked how much he struggled with giving up his N.F.L. dream, he referred to the 2 percent philosophy that he picked up from his football coach at FSU — Can you be 2 percent better than you were yesterday? You can if you take small steps every single day toward a larger goal.(“那是我一生中最沮丧的时刻,”他说。当被问及放弃N.F.L.梦想有多艰难时,他提到了从FSU的橄榄球教练那里学到的2%哲学——你能比昨天进步2%吗?如果你能每天朝着更大的目标迈出一小步,那么你就可以)”可知,对Myron Rolle来说,最失望的时刻是放弃足球梦的时候。故选A项。 根据最后一段““If you look at the outside, you will see my story as maybe something that is unable to achieve. I played in the N. F. L. and I was a Rhodes Scholar and now neurosurgeon. But doubts and uncertainty really went throughout my life. Dealing with work-life balance issues or challenges in the workplace-I just found ways to overcome these challenges.”(“如果你从外表看,你可能会觉得我的故事是无法实现的。我打过N.F.L.,我是Rhodes学者,现在是神经外科医生。但怀疑和不确定性一直伴随着我的人生。在处理工作与生活的平衡问题或职场挑战时,我只是找到了克服这些挑战的方法。”)”可推知,从Rolle的话中可知,当一件事失败时,只要你能找到克服这些挑战的方法,就能在另一方面获得成功,所以应是一扇门关上,另一扇门就会打开。故选C项。 C A garden constructed with “humble” clay fashioned into 3D-printed bricks has claimed the first green medal at the Chelsea Flower Show for being the most environmentally sustainable design. The Chelsea Flower Show, a celebrated global event held annually at Chelsea, London, has been a cornerstone of the gardening calendar since 1913. It began as a way to showcase the latest trends in gardening and plant varieties. The Environmental Innovation Award is the first of its sort and goes along with the gold, silver and bronze medals awarded to the most attractive and interesting gardens. Giulio Giorgi, a first-time Chelsea designer, stated he created the green-medal-winning garden with no concrete. Most gardens contain concrete in some form and the materials they are built from often generate the highest carbon footprint. While the employment of pollinator-friendly plants, wild areas and sensible use of water are well-known easy ways to make a garden more sustainable, Giorgi said it was crucial to focus on the building materials as their carbon footprint was often overlooked. “We typically use a lot of metal, glue, cement and then all the energy we have to put in to build the gardens. The material in our garden is low-temperature-fired clay, a resource that can be found pretty much everywhere. We made this clay into 3D-printed bricks, connecting ancient tradition with novel practices so carbon emissions are the lowest possible, if any. The bricks, peppered with tiny holes, can absorb water and release it when drought strikes plants,” said Giorgi. Judges considered end-of-life plans for the gardens and whether materials could be reused. The 3D-printed nature of Giorgi’s garden means it can easily be taken apart and put together again. As a result, when it is relocated to RHS Garden Wisley, where it will live on after the show as an educational facility, the carbon emissions will be low as no materials will be wasted. 28. What do we know about the Chelsea Flower Show? A. It values sustainability as well as appeal. B. Its initial aim was to encourage outdoor fitness. C. It requires competing gardens to be concrete-free. D. It has a long-standing tradition of championing greenness. 29. What advantage does clay have over other building materials according to Giorgi? A. It catches fire less easily. B. It’s more durable and absorbent. C. It takes less labor to produce. D. It’s eco-friendly and more available. 30. What will become of Giorgi’s garden after the show? A. It’ll be sold publicly. B. It’ll serve as an urban landmark. C. It’ll be turned into a school. D. It’ll come into play in another spot. 31. What can be the best title for the text? A. Clay Bricks: Recyclable Building Material B. Chelsea Flower Show: Celebration of Gardening C. Garden with Clay Bricks: Winner of Green Medal D. Giulio Giorgi: Designer Enthusiastic about High-Tech 【答案】28. A 29. D 30. D 31. As a result, when it is relocated to RHS Garden Wisley, where it will live on after the show as an educational facility, the carbon emissions will be low as no materials will be wasted.(Giorgi的花园是3D打印的,这意味着它可以很容易地拆开再组装起来。 根据全文内容,结合第一段“A garden constructed with ‘humble’ clay fashioned into 3D-printed bricks has claimed the first green medal at the Chelsea Flower Show for being the most environmentally sustainable design.(一个用‘普通’粘土制成的3D打印砖建造的花园在切尔西花展上获得了第一枚绿色奖章,因为它是最环保的可持续设计)”可知,文章主要讲述一个用“普通”粘土制成的3D打印砖建造的花园在切尔西花展上获得了第一枚绿色奖章,C项“粘土砖花园:绿色奖章获得者”为最佳标题,故选C。 D At top universities, there’s a phenomenon known as “Stanford Duck Syndrome (综合征)”. Like ducks, students appear to move gracefully (优雅地). However, beneath the surface, they’re kicking desperately to keep up. Experts from Stanford’s Health Services uncovered this troubling trend: during the day, many Stanford students are seen socializing in cafés, seemingly without any stress or the need to study. However, at night, they start studying, sometimes for the entire night, trying to maintain the image of effortless success. This comes at a high price: tiredness and anxiety are widespread. Furthermore, it leads to a common misconception: true geniuses achieve success with ease, while those working hard are less capable. In an effort to challenge this misconception, researchers designed an experiment. Participants were asked to observe a series of colors carefully while scientists tracked their brain activity throughout the process. The experiment was divided into two parts: one with easily distinguishable colors and the other with colors that were quite similar, requiring more effort to differentiate. As the difficulty of the task increased, there was a noticeable increase in brain activity, particularly in areas linked to memory and abstract reasoning. The study reveals that as tasks require more effort, more areas of the brain become engaged. Growth doesn’t come from talent alone but from the consistent application of effort. Our brain functions like a muscle. Without effort, even our inborn talents will fade over time. This pushes us to reconsider the underlying culture that might lead to this phenomenon. Instead of focusing too much on outcomes or singing high praise for inborn talents, we should emphasize the learning process and continuous improvement. By encouraging a culture that values effort, we can help students realize that intelligence is not fixed but grows through hard work. Such a shift would not only reduce the pressures associated with the “Stanford Duck Syndrome”, but also have a profound impact on personal development and the future of education. 32. What phenomenon does the “Stanford Duck Syndrome” probably describe? A. Prioritizing effort over well-being. B. Relieving stress through social activities. C. Displaying graceful images to attract others. D. Hiding hard work to appear naturally gifted. 33. How does the experiment in paragraph 3 challenge the misconception? A. By showing effort fuels the brain activity. B. By proving focus enhances brain function. C. By linking color recognition to intelligence. D. By associating careful observation with talent. 34. What is the author’s main concern about “Stanford Duck Syndrome”? A. It values the learning process over outcomes. B. It causes stress and false ideas about success. C. It prevents students from recognizing their talents. D. It makes students prioritize socializing over studying. 35. Which of the following might the author agree with? A. Fortune favors those with a clear vision. B. Sweat is the ink that writes a masterpiece. C. Work in silence and let success make the noise. D. Keep moving forward even when no one sees it. D 33. A 34. B 35. 由文章第一段“At top universities, there’s a phenomenon known as “Stanford Duck Syndrome (综合征)”. Like ducks, students appear to move gracefully (优雅地). However, beneath the surface, they’re kicking desperately to keep up. 和第二段中“Experts from Stanford’s Health Services uncovered this troubling trend: during the day, many Stanford students are seen socializing in cafés, seemingly without any stress or the need to study. However, at night, they start studying, sometimes for the entire night, trying to maintain the image of effortless success. 由文章第三段中“As the difficulty of the task increased, there was a noticeable increase in brain activity, particularly in areas linked to memory and abstract reasoning. 和第四段中“The study reveals that as tasks require more effort, more areas of the brain become engaged. 故选A。 由文章第二段中“This comes at a high price: tiredness and anxiety are widespread. Furthermore, it leads to a common misconception: true geniuses achieve success with ease, while those working hard are less capable. 由文章倒数第二段中“Growth doesn’t come from talent alone but from the consistent application of effort. Our brain functions like a muscle. Without effort, even our inborn talents will fade over time. Lately, many students have cut back on their physical activities. This can be mainly attributed to the academic pressure and the excessive amount of time spent in front of screens. To tackle this issue, our school has come up with an exciting initiative — the “21-Day Sports Check-in Program”. My plan is to start with 15-minute morning runs at the playground from 6:50 to 7:05 every day. We can use a fitness app to check in. What’s more, there are attractive rewards in store for those who manage to complete all 21 days of the challenge, such as sports gear. Every moment, we were moving farther away from the city, the place where I knew how to do things right. The car engine wasn’t off before Grandma hugged me. I slowly dragged myself out of the car. “Jude, you look unhappy. Why?” Grandma asked. She acted like nothing bad had happened last time. Could I ask how much money her neighbor Mr. Jackson had lost because of my mistake? Was he still upset with me? “I’m fine,” I answered. “I’m just missing my computer camp. Computers are something I’m good at.” “That sounds disappointing.” Grandma nodded. I liked visiting the farm during breaks before I messed things up last summer. Grandma lived alone, and Mr. Jackson was like family to her. Then one day I forgot to lock the gate and let the goats into his flower beds. He lost almost all his roses for the farmers’ market. Now, back at the farm, I felt nervous. I was trying to hide in the room when I saw Mr. Jackson! He was opening the door and calling Grandma. “I need help!” he yelled to her. “Just a second for the freshly harvested roses!” That was when he saw me. I felt my heart tighten and was ready for his criticism. I deserved it. He had probably been waiting for this moment since last summer. However, Mr. Jackson greeted me happily, “Great, Jude is here! Your grandma always tells us you are a wonderfully competent(有能力的)computer programmer.” I shook my head. “I am not competent. I am sorry I messed things up.” He was surprised and comforted me, “It was an accident. Being competent doesn’t mean you never make mistakes.” I looked out of the window. There were piles of roses waiting to be sold. “Jude, can you help us? We want to sell roses online. We have a computer and all the parts(零件)for our internet connection, but we just can’t set it up,” Grandma asked. No internet. They seemed to live in the twentieth century. Maybe I could be someone who was really competent. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Within a few hours, orders for roses flooded in. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 I could be someone who was really competent. “I can definitely help with that! Where are the parts?” Following Grandma, I went into the room, where a computer sat surrounded by some scattered parts. Rolling up my sleeves, I carefully connected everything. It was a piece of cake to me. “Done!” I announced confidently. After a few adjustments, the internet was up and running. Now it was time to sell the roses. I decided to start from my social media platform. I quickly uploaded photos, added descriptions, and set prices. Before long, notifications started showing up — people were noticing. My abilities made a difference!(96词) Within a few hours, orders for roses flooded in. “This is amazing, Jude!” Grandma cheered with joy as she began bustling about, packing flowers. Mr. Jackson chuckled warmly as he handed me another bunch to label. The energy was electric — everyone was on their feet, moving quickly to keep up with the growing orders. The farm felt alive, and so did I. To our surprise, the roses sold out in just half a day. “You’ve brought the farm into the twenty-first century, Jude,” Grandma hugged me tightly. I realized that being competent wasn’t about avoiding mistakes. It was about facing them head-on and making the most of my strengths.(100词) 【解析】 【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,讲述了暑假爸爸带Jude去奶奶的农场,但Jude去年在农场时因忘记锁门,导致山羊进了奶奶邻居Jackson先生的花田,最后毁了所有的玫瑰花,现在Jackson回到农场感到紧张,Jude在Jackson先生来找奶奶帮忙时试图躲避,Jackson却很高兴见到他并说去年只是一次意外,奶奶询问擅长电脑的Jude是否能帮忙在网上卖玫瑰花。 词汇激活 行为类 ①宣布:announce/declare ②拥抱:hug/embrace ③意识到:realize/be aware 情绪类 ①喜悦:joy/delight/happiness ②惊讶:surprise/astonishment 【点睛】[高分句型1] Following Grandma, I went into the room, where a computer sat surrounded by some scattered parts.(由关系副词where引导的非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] Mr. Jackson chuckled warmly as he handed me another bunch to label.(由从属连词as引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 宁夏六盘山高级中学 2025届高三年级第二次模拟测试卷 学科:英语测试时间:120分钟满分:150分 注意事项: 1. Where does the conversation probably take place? C A garden constructed with “humble” clay fashioned into 3D-printed bricks has claimed the first green medal at the Chelsea Flower Show for being the most environmentally sustainable design. Giulio Giorgi a first-time Chelsea designer, stated he created the green-medal-winning garden with no concrete. Giulio Giorgi: Designer Enthusiastic about High-Tech D At top universities there’s a phenomenon known as “Stanford Duck Syndrome (综合征)”. During puberty (青春期), your body goes through many changes, and you start forming a body image — how you see, think, and feel about your body’s size, shape, and weight, or specific features like your nose. ____36____ For instance, you may believe your nose is too big or too small, even though it looks perfectly normal. ____37____ One major influence is peer (同龄人) pressure. Your friends might make casual jokes about your appearance, or you might compare yourself to them and feel they look better. Such experiences can harm the way you view yourself. Another powerful influence is the media, which often promotes a narrow, ideal body type. For example, if fair skin is portrayed as beautiful, you may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal. Developing a negative body image can lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as extreme dieting, overexercising, or even risky plastic surgeries. ____38____ When you focus too much on appearance, you may forget to appreciate other great things about yourself, such as your talents and personality. To build a positive body image, it’s essential to remember that no perfect body exists, as beauty standards are always changing. Models and celebrities may appear flawless in the media, but much of their appearance is due to makeup, angles, lighting, and editing. ____39____ Rather than focusing on appearances, value people for their true selves. By surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect your attention from self-criticism. ____40____ Over time, you’ll build inner confidence and develop a healthier, more accepting relationship with your body. A. Many factors shape your body image. B. It also lowers your overall life satisfaction. C. However, your true beauty lies within your heart. D. External judgement can be a double-edged sword. E. Without these tricks, they are just as “imperfect” as everyone else. F. Surprisingly, body image is shaped more by your thoughts than by reality. G. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
