例如,“make a decision”“take part in”“be interested in” 等固定短语,如果不熟悉,就可能会选错介词或动词形式。
I have a neighbor. She looks young and beautiful 1 she is over 70. She can do all the housework, read newspapers and learn something new on the Internet. I 2 see her do taiji in the morning and dance in the evening.
1.A. until B. unless C. because D. although
2.A. hardly B. often C. almost D. never
举个例子来说,就像“The little girl was so ____ that she hid behind the door when there were strangers in the room. 然而,通过“she hid behind the door when there were strangers”这句话可以推断出,小女孩是由于害羞才会在有陌生人的时候躲在门后,所以正确答案是 A。
I went to the cinema last night when I saw an old friend of mine.
He worked hard, ____ he still failed the exam. A. and B. but C. so D. or。
比如,在题目“We should ____ good habits of studying. A. make B. take C. develop D. get。” 因为“make”通常用于“make sth.”
举例来说,像“In the USA, people usually eat turkey on ____. A. Christmas Day B. Thanksgiving Day C. New Year's Day D. Easter Day”这样的题目。

If someone were to ask me who influenced me most in my life, I’d tell him or her that it’s my brother, Chris. My brother is one of the most 1 people in my life. I may not always act like it, but I look up to him and 2 him. When I think of everything he’s done for me, it’s hard not to 3 him. There are the basic 4 that most older brothers do. You know, they look after you, 5 you with your homework, and let you use their things. But my brother did a lot more for me. He was the one who taught me how to read and how to tie my shoes. He taught me how to hold my 6 underwater.
He even taught me how not to touch his things. He also did other big brother stuff (事情). Like shut me in the closet (储藏室), play tricks on me, “forbid (禁止)” me to 7 his things. But for each “mean” thing he did to me, he did about five 8 things. One nice thing he did was that he always let me hang around with him and his friends. Because of that, I have two brothers instead of one. My other “brother” is Chris’s best friend, Corey. They spent a lot of time together when they were younger, and since Chris was nice, I 9 got to do stuff with them. Since Corey was as much my brother as Chris was, of course they both pulled little 10 on me. But I must admit a lot of the tricks 11 because I was a slightly gullible (易受骗的) child. One that 12 comes to mind is when Chris and Corey 13 to make me believe that they were being sucked (吸入) into the ground.
I was so 14 about it that I went inside and told Mum that they were being sucked down. As I said, I was a slightly gullible child. Yes. We had some 15 times.

Stephen waved his hands. “Oh, maybe three or four days?”
His friends laughed. “It is like you’re trying to 6 your own universe in this game!”
“That’s not a bad idea.” replied Stephen.
But it was difficult to make a 7 of the universe that could work in a board game. He needed a machine that could help him to 8 the patterns he saw in the universe around him.
In a newspaper, Stephen read about a new kind of machine that could do it very quickly. Was this the machine he had been wishing for? It was called a “computer”.
“With one of those, I could understand all kinds of things about the universe and discover its 9 !” he thought.
At that time, computers were very big and very expensive. There was no way a school boy could 10 one, even if he saved up all his pocket money.

I will never forget the lesson that I learned when I was in my primary school.
One day, my 1 teacher, Mr. Brown came into the classroom. Without saying anything, he drew a line on the blackboard. Looking at the confused students, he asked, “Who can make the line 2 ?”
Before he finished what he wanted to say, all of us laughed and cried, “That’s too easy.”
“But there are some 3 . You can’t remove the existing (已有的) line. You can’t erase any part of it. 4 you can’t even touch it.” Mr. Brown added.
We had never 5 that the line needed to be shortened without doing anything to it! All at once, the whole class fell into 6 . We were just looking at each other, but 7 of us came up with any idea. All our mind seemed to go blank. When I looked at Tom, the smartest student in the class, I noticed him quietly 8 his head.
After a while, complaints could be heard everywhere.
“It’s impossible. It can’t be done.”
“ 9 can we do that without touching the line?”
Mr. Brown didn’t say anything. Slowly he 10 a piece of chalk, and carefully drew on the board another line that was longer than the first one. Then he 11 , “We can’t make the line shorter, but we can draw a longer line to make it look shorter.”
For some time there was dead silence. Then smiles of 12 appeared on every young face. Finally we shouted and applauded (鼓掌) 13 as we realized we had learned a useful lesson.

On my 13th birthday, I bought a 4 of Harvard to hang in my room. Being at Harvard became what I dreamed about. Even when my electricity was cut off and I 5 at 5:30 a.m. in darkness and got myself ready for study, I knew that my poster of Harvard was 6 hanging only two feet away from me.
Reminding myself of my 7 each day so that I can say no to the choices that I saw my friends making, because those choices wouldn’t 8 me closer to my goal.
