Shen Yue,26,was born in East China's Shandong province,a region that many people believe
prioritizes secure,officiallv-budgeted positions such as civil service. However,Shen's decision to dive
into the unpredictable world of full-time video blogging after graduating in 2019,with a focus on the
popular game League of Legends(LOL),raised eyebrows
nitially,Shen's family supported his career choice, but when he struggled to make ends meet
within the first year, they began to advise him to seek a more secure job.But Shen remained determined
and persisted with his chosen path.
A turing point in Shen's career occurred at the start of this year when he posted a seemingly odd
video,replaeing the D and F keys on a keyboard,crucial for in-game character actions,with a foot
pedal().Describing it as a "pointless invention"created for fun,Shen admitted that the video
initially received limited attention. But a message from a viewer who had lost an arm in a car accident
changed eyerything. The viewer, who relied on one hand to play games, sought guidance on creating a
similar foot pedal."I hadn't realized that there would be disabled players in need of this kind of pedal,"
Shen said.Despite his limited knowledge of circuit-builaing,he managed to produce 10 different foot
pedals and traveled to Chongqing to personally assist the player in installation, gaining valuable
feedback.
"Due to physical limitations, this player could only operate two simple game characters,"Shen
explained. However, with this device, which allows the player to pedal with his foot,he can now play
games like a regular person using a keyboard.
Recognizing the diverse needs of disabled players nationwide,Shen started providing free
assistance in making these pedals. The continuous feedback within the community encouraged Shen to
improve his inventions constantly.
Shen's videos recording his experiences touched many Internet users, earning him the title of the
true"legend"of LOL."I'm honored to receive this praise. But the real legends were the audience whose
support had made the needs of disabled players easier to understand,"he said.

C.Shen's family were always for his choice.
D.Shen's job focused on-developing games.
25.The viewer's message made Shen realize that.
A.there was some use for the foot pedal
B.different foot pedals should be created
C.he helped the disabled use pedals
D.he needed to accept others'feedback
26.Which of the following best describes Shen?
A.Modest and frank.
P.Committed and innovative.
Helpful and daring.
D.Considerate and humorous.
27.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Usefulness of"Uselessness".
B.Blogs of a blogger.

Life as an astronaut has various unique attractions. This can include experiencing weightlessness
and looking back at Earth as a pale blue dot.Food is not among them.Space travelers over the years
have become used to certain foods such as freeze-dried ice cream and liquid salt and pepper. Now,the
menu is set to be augrented, with the first space-grown lettuce found to be as safe, nutritious and fresh
as the Earth-grown variety.
Gioia Massa of NASA Kennedy Space Center is the lead scientist on the lettuce-growing project.
She said that growing food in space could be wonderful for astronauts on missions lasting more than
one month."If you store packaged food for a long time, not only will the flavour and nutntional quality
decrease, but the vitamins will degrade. After eating such food, astronauts'intake of nutrition is not
ensured,"she said."Besides, for them, there may also be psychological benefits of growing and looking
after plants.
Lettuce has been grown in batches,(onboard the International Space Station (ISS).The
vegetable production system is known as Veggie. It is composed of plant pillows (sealed units
containing ceramic soil),LED lighting and a watering system that allows astronauts to inject water
through a tube. The lettuce crops grow undisturbed for 33 to 56 days before being harvested and eaten,
or deep-frozen and returned to Earth for chemical and biological analysis.
英语试卷第5页(共11页)
The space-grown lettuces are similar in make-up to Earth-grown ones but they have higher levels
of bacteria, possibly due to their growth in a warmer, more humid and closed-air system. But they are
not found to carry any harmful bacteria.
NASA is now enlarging the range of produce grown onboard the ISS.It will be quite some time
before any vegetables can be transformed into a dish, however."While we bave nowhere to cook up
there now,we can look forward to more things that taste fresh,"Massa explained.
28.What does the underlined word"augmented"probably mean in Paragraph 1?
.Enlarged.
B.Transformed.
C.Reduced.
D.Deleted.
29.What do we know about growing space-grown lettuce?
A.Its flavor and nutritional quality decline.
B.It is terrible for astronauts on missions.
C.It can contribute to astronauts'mental health.
D.It will make sure the astronauts'intake of nutrition.
30.What can we infer from the text?
A.Lettuces will be grown in batches onboard.
B.The vegetable production system consists of three parts.
C.It will take at least 56 days to harvest the space-grown lettuce crop.
D.Thanks to growing environment, the space-grown lettuces don't contain any harmful bacteria.
31.What does Massa mainly intend to explain in the last paragraph?
A.The difficulty in growing produce onboard.
B.The necessity to enlarge the space onboard.
C.The desire to enjoy cooked vegetables onboard.
D.The expectation to enrich the variety of produce grown onboard.

Figuring out biodiversity patterns and detecting rare or just-good-at-hiding species has long posed
challenges for ecosystem monitoring and conservation efforts.Traditional survey methods are labor
intensive and cover limited areas. Now,emerging environmental DNA (eDNA)techniques open new
possibilities.
Scientists collect water or soil samples from an environment and extract (any DNA traces
left behind by organisms. This is the environmental DNA (eDNA).They then use one of the two
analysis methods-quantitative PCR(qPCR)or DNA sequencing.Similar to COVID tests,qPCR is
used to detect if a specific species'DNA is in the sample. For example, researchers tested river water
eDNA to see if endangered fish X was present. When it was detected, they confirmed that the fish lived
英语试卷第6页(共11页)
in that river without directly seeing it.DNA sequencing analyzes all DNA in the sample at once.
Scientists can then match the DNA barcodes to databases to identify which species were in the sampled
environment.
Although eDNA sampling cannot identify new species or those only known from photos and
videos if they are not already listed in the reference databases, the real power of it lies in its ability to
capture a wide range of organisms. With just one sample, scientists can detect all kinds of living things,
from bacteria to whales,in almost any environment where life exists, including the deep sea and
underground caves. One of the most significant advantages of eDNA sampling is that it allows scientists
to detect species that are difficult to see or capture. This is particularly useful when studying rare or very
small species,or when working in environments like dark water where visibility is limited.
This is just the start.Imagine a future where eDNA data could be collected from the most remote
oceans by autonomous vehicles, analyzed by the drone or on board a research vessel ()and
integrated with other monitoring data so marine managers and the public can see near-real-time data
about the condition of the ocean.Science fiction? Not any more.
32.What's the author's purpose of mentioning the example in Paragraph 2?
A.To explain the process of qPCR analysis method.
B.To introduce the definition of environmental DNA.
C.To tell the difference between two analysis methods.
D.To show the similarity between qPCR and COVID tests.
.33.What's the advantage of eDNA sampling?
A.It can detect species from photos and videos.
B.It can help scientists capture endangered species.
C It enables scientists to work in invisible environment.
D.It can identify any living creature with a sample of it.
34.What could eDNA data be applied to in the future?
A.Studying microbial communities.
B.Analyzing diversity changes over time.
C.Collecting species in new environments.
D Offering statistics for ocean supervision.
35.What's the main idea of the text?
A.Scientists have made a breakthrough in undersea research.
B.Rare species have been discovered with two analysis methods.
C New biodiversity monitoring techniques are around the comer.
D.Traditional survey methods are abandoned for their shortcomings.

Accents are an important part of our idertitv. An accent gives clues about who we are,and the
community we belong to or wish to belong to.36
What is the difference between accents and pronunciation?
_37_-,A French person may speak English flawlessl以完美无瑕地),just with a French accent..
That's fine because there is no wrong or right with an accent. However, pronunciation is something
that-as a learner-you can get right or wrong. If your pronunciation is correct, you can communicate
ertecuvely with others whatever your accent is.
◆38
If you think back historically people were much more locauzed with generation ater generation of
families living in the same small villages and few people traveled out of that area during their lifetimes.
So over many generations differences in accent emerged and became very distinct to particular areas.
Mountainous villages that are not easily accessible often develop very strong and distinctive accents.
How important is it to get an accent right?
If you're moving to a certain part of a country, you might want to integrate better with your new
community. That's because it shows a sense of belonging to the community you are trying to
fit in with.
How to improve your accent?
Learners should first think about which sounds don't exist m your native language. And then learners
should consider which sounds exist in the language you're leamning and then spend some time in front of
the mirror practicing moving your tongue and mouth to get those new and different sounds.40,
which can sometimes even change the meaning of words.
A.Where does pronunciation emerge
B.And leamers should be aware of stress and ton'
C.Where do different types of accents come from
D.Try to adapt your speech to sound more interesting
E.They're also important for those learning a new language
F.Accents are about localized ways of speaking a language
G.The best way is to leam the specific accent of that region
