Most people today know the name Jean-Michel Basquiat, but his neighbours and contemporaries, including the luminaries (权威) below, did just as much to establish the bright, vivid energy that continues to distinguish hip-hop graffiti today. Shamsia Hassani Known as Afghanistan’s first female graffiti artist, Hassani, born in 1988, often makes her art on abandoned buildings. As a talented artist, equally comfortable with a can or a brush, she teaches at Kabul University and in 2013 founded the Kabul Graffiti Festival. She has exhibited in the United States and India, as well as widely throughout Europe. Chris “Daze” Ellis Ellis began tagging New York City subway cars in 1976 while still in high school and was one of the first artists to jump from street art to high art; By 1981, he was exhibiting at the Mudd Club with such rising luminaries as Keith Haring and Basquiat. Before long, his reputation went global. Ellis has held his own exhibitions in Austria, France, Italy, Singapore and beyond. The NYC Rap Tour The first overseas hip-hop tour, which visited England and France in 1982, brought music and visual art together: DJ Afrika Bambaataa, the Rock Steady Crew and other musicians performed while artists such as Fab 5 Freddy, Futura 2000 and Dondi painted onstage. The Fantastic Four, winners of a jump rope world championship, and a dance crew completed the unusual event. Hip-hop was now a global force. 1. Where did the new art form develop rapidly in the 1970s? A. India. B. France. C. Philadelphia. D. New York. 2. What do Hassani and Ellis have in common? A They taught at Kabul University. B. They had their own exhibitions. C. They made art on deserted buildings at first. D. They jumped from street art to high art before 2000. 3. What is special about the NYC Rap Tour? A. Afrika Bambaataa painted onstage. B. Fab 5 Freddy played music. C. It combined music and visual art. D. It won jump rope championship. B In 1972, Barbara Rieco penned a heartfelt children’s book that held her dream within its pages. Despite her best efforts, the manuscript (手稿) faced repeated rejection from publishers, leading her to eventually set aside her dream of becoming a published author. Little did she know that, decades later, her grandson would turn the dream into reality. Chad Cooper, a production professional, decided to give his grandmother the ultimate Christmas gift — the publication of her treasured book. Visiting her in Baltimore for the holidays, he secretly took her original manuscript, along with the drawings for the book she had obtained from an artist years ago, and transformed them into a beautifully printed book. On Christmas morning, as Barbara unwrapped the carefully crafted gift, she was overcome with emotion as she realized what the surprise was. The moment, captured and posted online by Chad, quickly resonated (产生共鸣) with viewers, and the video became a hit. “This is probably the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me in my entire life,” Barbara said in the video, who also gave her grandson a big hug, with tears. Chad’s thoughtful gesture didn’t just end with the surprise; he also included a link to the book on Amazon, making it available to the public. The response was nothing short of magic — within days, Barbara’s once-forgotten book skyrocketed to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list, earning the coveted spot as a best seller. Chad filmed the reaction to that news and shared more updates. Barbara said she had been reading every single comment online and wanted to respond to them all but there were thousands of them. “I’ve bought Barbara Rieco’s book even though I’m 21 and don’t even have kids. I’ve read it and I really like it,” said one viewer. “My children enjoy reading the book and they recommend me to read it as well,” another viewer commented. Barbara Rieco’s book, now accepted by a new generation of readers, continues to spread joy and inspiration. 4. What did Chad Cooper do for his grandmother? A. He had her book published. B. He drew for her new book. C. He arranged an artist to meet her. D. He helped finish her manuscript. 5. How did Barbara Rieco feel when receiving her grandson’s Christmas gift? A. Calm and proud. B. Lucky but regretful. C. Delighted but worried. D. Excited and grateful. 6. What does the underlined word “coveted” in paragraph 6 probably mean? A Dangerous. B. Desired. C. Empty. D. Forgotten. 7. Why are the two viewers mentioned in the text? A. To reveal Barbara’s gift for writing books. B. To show the popularity of Barbara’s book. C. To tell the influence of reading on the young. D. To highlight the value of Chad’s Christmas gift. C Self-driving cars may sound like something from a futuristic sci-fi novel. However, with advanced trials expected from 2021, they are a lot closer to reality than you may think, and they could really help you. Connected and automated vehicles (also known as CAVs), are vehicles that could perform many of the functions of today’s human drivers in the future. Aware of the potential benefits of the technology from improving road safety and reducing traffic congestion (拥塞), to enabling greater travel independence — the U.K. government has been encouraging the technology. “However, we won’t get there unless those designing the technology engage properly with a wide range of transport users,” said lain Forbes, head of the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles. FLOURISH, one initiative that received government backing, has helped to advance the successful implementation of CAVs in the U.K. by developing services and capabilities which maxi-mise the benefits of driverless vehicles for users and transport authorities. The project was a collaboration between small and medium companies and large businesses across multiple industries, universities, local authorities and the not-for-profit sector, to investigate how these vehicles might benefit older adults and those with mobility-related conditions. Mervyn Kohler, an Age U.K. spokesman, believes FLOURISH’s approach will be key to the positive impact self-driving cars have on older adults. “The project’s connectivity findings will also help the users of the future to make real-time journey decisions, responding to live information,” Tracey Poole, FLOURISH’s project manager and transport planning specialist says: “Not only will these vehicles be more inclusive; they will also be safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly.” Although safety is one of the big prizes associated with the introduction of self-driving cars, with the vast majority of collisions caused by human error, concerns about their safety are common. The government is keen to understand the public’s view on CAVs and continues to survey public attitudes. It is also taking big steps towards establishing how our laws and regulations might need to change to support the safe use of self-driving cars. 8. What is the advantage of self-driving cars? A. They guarantee road safety. B. They remove traffic jams. C. They provide more freedom of traveling. D. They get over the elder’s dependence on drivers. 9. What does the underlined word “prizes” in paragraph 7 refer to? A. Awards. B. Achievements. C. Realization. D. Characteristics. 10. What can we infer about self-driving cars? A. Collisions between self-driving cars can’t be avoided. B. Self-driving cars are more eco-friendly than today's cars. C. There is still a way to go before self-driving cars hit the road. D. People are not worried about the safety problems of self-driving cars. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. CAVs: a substitute for today’s human driver B How do CAVs help people less able to travel? C. FLOURISH: a new project on self-driving cars D. Could self-driving cars soon be a reality? D A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost? If you answered 10 cents, you’re not alone – most people give the same answer (the correct answer is 5 cents). It’s an example of how we often rely on intuitive (直觉的) responses – answers we feel are true. People give answers that “pop into their mind,” says Steven Sloman. We don’t spend much time “reflecting and checking whether the answer is right or wrong.” The bat and ball question helps explain why we often believe in fake news. It is part of human nature to believe, says Sloman. But “the trick with fake news is to know to verify” – in other words, to stop and question what you know. In one experiment, Sloman and a colleague invented a discovery called helium rain. They told a group of volunteers about it, but admitted they could not fully explain what it was. They then asked the volunteers to rate their own understanding of helium rain. Most volunteers rated themselves 1 out of 7, meaning they did not understand the concept. The researchers then told another group of volunteers about the discovery. This time, they said that scientists could fully explain how it works. When asked to rate their understanding, the volunteers gave an average answer of 2. The scientists’ confidence gave the volunteers an increased sense of their own understanding, Sloman says. According to Sloman, studies show that knowledge spreads like a contagion(传染病). This idea can be seen in many fields, including politics. “If everyone around you is saying they understand why a politician is dishonest,” Sloman says, “then you’re going to start thinking that you understand, too.” Another explanation for the spread of fake news is “motivated reasoning,” writes Adam Wyatz, an American management professor, “we are naturally more likely to believe things that confirm our existing opinions.” So in a world where misleading information is common, training people to care about fact-checking is important, especially in online communities. “We should check things and not just take them at face value,” Sloman says. “Verify before you believe.” 12. Why does the author use the example of the bat and ball question? A. To warn that people often ignore skills that they learned. B. To show that there are various answers to a question. C. To arouse people’s interest in playing guessing games. D. To illustrate that people tend to rush to a conclusion. 13. In paragraph 3, what does the underlined word “verify” mean? A. To express an opinion about something. B. To make sure something is true. C. To think about something for a long time. D. To follow your intuitive response. 14. When do more volunteers claim to understand helium rain? A. When Sloman and his colleagues showed them how it works. B. When they have more confidence in themselves. C. When they believed that scientists understood it. D. When some of the volunteers explained it to them. 15. Which of the following is an example of “motivated reasoning”? A. You post a message online that gives your personal opinion about a news story. B. You think a university professor dishonest when everybody around you say so. C. You search online for more information about a doubtful story on social media. D. You trust a damaging story about someone who you always judge negatively. Exercise is important in all phases of life, but for seniors, it’s crucial to maintaining independence. It appeared that Debbie would run unopposed for president. Talking among a group of dissatisfied girls, I whispered, “There must be someone who’d run against her.” Suddenly Liz focused her attention on me. “Why not you?” “Me? No way. I work after school. I can’t stay for all those meetings. ” My closest friend, Linda, smiled, “Why not? Just think how great our senior year would be! You could get a real senior trip approved and get better bands for the dances. ” My little group continued to ignore my protests as they imagined the wonderful changes I could make. By the end of the week, they’d gotten enough signatures to put my name on the ballot (选票). Debbie and I had very different campaign styles. Because I was always skipping around, I earned the name “Rabbit”. Signs soon appeared around campus with the slogan (口号) “Make your votes count with Rabbit!” My platform aimed for more fun and less restrictions. We wore uniforms and I advocated more free dress days and a broader interpretation of what was acceptable on regular dress days. My opponent, on the other hand, avoided any implication of silliness on her posters. Catchy slogans had no place in her serious campaign. What she offered was the opening Lawn to all students and a reformatting of the yearbook that would mix ninth through twelfth graders rather than highlight seniors in oversized photos. Gone would be the yearbook with seniors’ quotes and many exciting activities. Lowerclassmen (低年级生) loved Debbie’s idea; would-be seniors, however, were angry. My classmates supported me and were confident they could persuade enough lowerclassmen to vote my way. Each day I got reports of a few more of lowerclassmen coming to my side. On election day I felt fairly confident. I was even looking forward to quitting my job and focusing on school politics. However, by the end of the day, the votes were counted and Debbie was declared the winner. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ That’s when I noticed my teacher Mr. Laskey, who turned to me and smiled. “Congratulations!” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年固始县一高二高一模联考 高三英语试题卷 注意事项: 本试卷分四部分,考试时间120分钟,满分150分。 1. A. Dangerous. B. Desired. C. Empty. D. Forgotten. 7 Why are the two viewers mentioned in the text? A. To reveal Barbara’s gift for writing books. B. To show the popularity of Barbara’s book. C. To tell the influence of reading on the young. D. To highlight the value of Chad’s Christmas gift. 4. A 5. D 6. B 7. The government is keen to understand the public’s view on CAVs and continues to survey public attitudes It is also taking big steps towards establishing how our laws and regulations might need to change to support the safe use of self-driving cars. 8. What is the advantage of self-driving cars? A. They guarantee road safety. B. They remove traffic jams. C. They provide more freedom of traveling. D. They get over the elder’s dependence on drivers. 9. What does the underlined word “prizes” in paragraph 7 refer to? A Awards. A CAVs: a substitute for today’s human driver B. How do CAVs help people less able to travel? C. FLOURISH: a new project on self-driving cars D. Could self-driving cars soon be a reality? A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段“Aware of the potential benefits of the technology from improving road safety and reducing traffic congestion (拥塞), to enabling greater travel independence-the U. K. government has been encouraging the technology. (英国政府意识到这项技术的潜在好处,从改善道路安全、减少交通拥塞到提高出行独立性,一直在鼓励这项技术。)”可知,无人驾驶汽车可以改善道路安全。故选A项。 根据第七段“Although safety is one of the big prizes associated with the introduction of self-driving cars, with the vast majority of collisions caused by human error, concerns about their safety are common. (尽管安全是自动驾驶汽车引入的大prizes,但绝大多数碰撞都是由人为失误引起的,人们对其安全性的担忧是普遍存在的。)”以及常识可知,安全是随着无人驾驶汽车的引入而到来的最大的成就,推测划线词汇表示“成就”,与achievements意义相近。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The government is keen to understand the public’s view on CAVs and continues to survey public attitudes. It is also taking big steps towards establishing how our laws and regulations might need to change to support the safe use of self-driving cars. (政府热衷于了解公众对CAV的看法,并继续调查公众的态度。它还采取了重大步骤,以确定我们的法律法规可能需要如何改变,以支持自动驾驶汽车的安全使用。)”可知,政府还需建立一套法律法规,以规范无人驾驶汽车的安全使用,即距离自动驾驶汽车上路还有一段路要走。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Self-driving cars may sound like something from a futuristic sci-fi novel. However, with advanced trials expected from 2021, they are a lot closer to reality than you may think, and they could really help you. (自动驾驶汽车听起来可能像是未来科幻小说中的东西。然而,预计从2021年开始进行高级试验,它们比你想象的更接近现实,它们确实可以帮助你。)”、最后一段“The government is keen to understand the public’s view on CAVs and continues to survey public attitudes. It is also taking big steps towards establishing how our laws and regulations might need to change to support the safe use of self-driving cars. (政府热衷于了解公众对CAV的看法,并继续调查公众的态度。它还采取了重大步骤,以确定我们的法律法规可能需要如何改变,以支持自动驾驶汽车的安全使用。)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要介绍了无人驾驶汽车给人们带来的好处、各个领域在技术等方面的合作以及政府将发布相关法律规范无人驾驶汽车的使用,所以“自动驾驶汽车会很快成为现实吗?”适合作为文章标题。故选D项。 D A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第二段“It’s an example of how we often rely on intuitive (直觉的) responses – answers we feel are true. People give answers that “pop into their mind,” says Steven Sloman. We don’t spend much time “reflecting and checking whether the answer is right or wrong.”(这是一个我们如何经常依赖直觉反应的例子——我们认为答案是真实的。史蒂文·斯洛曼说,人们给出的答案“会突然进入他们的脑海”。我们不会花太多时间“反思和检查答案是否正确。”)”可判断,作者用球拍和球的例子是来说明人们倾向于匆忙下结论。故选D。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“in other words, to stop and question what you know. (换句话说,停止并质疑你所知道的一切。)”可知,识别假新闻的诀窍是知道如何验证,所以划线词verify为“核实”之意,即“确定某事是真的”。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“This time, they said that scientists could fully explain how it works. When asked to rate their understanding, the volunteers gave an average answer of 2. The scientists’ confidence gave the volunteers an increased sense of their own understanding, Sloman says.(这一次,他们说科学家们可以完全解释它是如何工作的。当被要求对他们的理解程度打分时,志愿者给出了平均2分的答案。科学家的自信让志愿者们对自己的理解有了更多的认识,Sloman说。)”可知,当他们相信科学家能理解的时候,更多的志愿者声称了解氦雨。故选C。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“we are naturally more likely to believe things that confirm our existing opinions.(我们自然而然地更倾向于相信那些证实了我们现有观点的事情。)” Exercise is important in all phases of life, but for seniors, it’s crucial to maintaining independence. On election day, I felt fairly confident. “Congratulations!” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 However, by the end of the day, the votes were counted and Debbie was declared the winner. And I had only one vote less than Debbie! Disappointment seized me! At the same time, I felt ashamed of myself, for I had pictured more than once to defeat Debbie, and I had been thinking my platform had more advantages. What’s more, my classmates were so supportive to me. How could I face them? I rushed to the library and found a corner, sitting alone, weeping and lost in a bad mood. That’s when I noticed my teacher Mr. Laskey, who turned to me and smiled. “Congratulations!” Hearing this, I was totally at sea. Mr. Laskey stroked my head, saying gently, “I admire you for being so courageous to challenge yourself! There is no doubt that Debbie is outstanding, but so are you! You are absolutely promising!” Greatly encouraged, I wiped my tears, bidding farewell to Mr. Laskey and walking confidently to my supporters. Though I didn’t become president, I was still excited to be one of the student body officers. I thanked them, and decided to serve both juniors and seniors wholeheartedly. 词汇激活 行为类 ①想象:picture / imagine ②轻抚:stroke / fondle ③击败:defeat / beat 情绪类 ①茫然:at sea/at a loss ②激动的:excited / thrilled 【点睛】[高分句型1] I felt ashamed of myself, for I had pictured more than once to defeat Debbie, and I had been thinking my platform had more advantages.(由for引导的原因状语从句) [高分句型2] I rushed to the library and found a corner, sitting alone, weeping and lost in a bad mood.(由现在分词sitting alone和weeping作伴随状语) [高分句型3] There is no doubt that Debbie is outstanding, but so are you!
