But what if you are not a “born” runner or jogger? You may still want a kind of exercise that’s inexpensive and easy to do. Why not try walking? Walking is something that almost any normal, healthy person can do. It requires no special equipment. Walking can give you many of the same benefits as jogging or running; it will just take longer. Jogging and running make your heart and lungs work harder than walking. They also put more stress on your legs and feet than walking does. The problem with walking as a kind of exercise is that most people don’t take it seriously. But there’s a big difference between serious walking and the kind of walking that most of us do. Walking, like jogging, should have a steady and continuous motion. If you’re going to get your exercise by walking, you need to have your own walking program. After all, runners and joggers set goals for themselves. Walkers need goals, too. Set a definite course to walk. Start by walking about 15 — 30 minutes a day. Build up your time and distance slowly. Try increasing your walking speed little by little. If you prefer to jog or run, follow the same advice. Start off slowly. Spend most of the first few days just walking. Then, start walking and running on the same day. Run or jog a short distance, then walk for a while, then run, then walk. Follow that pattern for 15 — 30 minutes a day. Slowly make each run longer and each walk shorter. Later on, you can increase your distance, speed, and exercise time. 41. Which of these statements supports the idea that walking is an inexpensive sport? A. It is a kind of exercise. B. It requires a regular program. C. It has many of the same benefits as running. D. It requires no special equipment. 42. According to the article, walking should be done ______. A. in stop sand starts B. as fast as possible C. at a steady pace D. at the same time as jogging 43. In the author’s opinion, how are running and walking alike? A. They require goals. B. They cause the same amount of stress. C. They have the same effect on the heart. D. Increasing your speed little by little. D. Walking just before jogging. 45. What is the best title of the passage? A. Don’t run too fast. B. A “born” runner. C. How to build up your time? D. Why not try walking? D 42. C 43. A 44. B 45. 根据第二段“Walking is something that almost any normal, healthy person can do. It requires no special equipment. (行走是几乎任何正常健康的人都能做的事情。它不需要特殊的设备。)”可知,步行是一种便宜的运动,因为不需要特殊设备。故选D。 【42题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Walking, like jogging, should have a steady and continuous motion. (散步,像慢跑,应该有一个稳定和持续的运动。)”可知,步行应该以稳定的速度进行。故选C。 【43题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“After all, runners and joggers set goals for themselves. (毕竟,跑步者和慢跑者为自己设定目标。)”可知,在作者看来,跑步和走路相似之处在于它们需要目标。故选A。 根据第五段“Start by walking about 15-30 minutes a day. Build up your time and distance slowly. Try increasing your walking speed little by little. (从每天步行15-30分钟开始。慢慢增加你的时间和距离。试着一点一点地提高你的步行速度。)”和第六段“Spend most of the first few days just walking. Then, start walking and running on the same day.(刚开始的几天大部分时间都在散步。然后,在同一天开始走路和跑步。)”可知,每天步行15分钟、一点一点地提高速度和慢跑前散步都是真正的步行。而边走边逛不是真正的步行。故选B。 【45题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“You may still want a kind of exercise that’s inexpensive and easy to do. Why not try walking? (你可能仍然想要一种既便宜又容易做的运动。为什么不试试步行呢?)”及全文可知,文章主要倡导了步行的运动方式以及如何实施。所以“Why not try walking?(为什么不试着步行呢?)”作为文章标题最为合适。故选D。 C Dr. Teruo Higa was born on December 28, 1941 on Okinawa and grew up there. He studied agriculture and took his doctorate from the Agricultural Research Department of Kyushu University Graduate School. He became a lecturer in 1970 and has been professor horticulture (园艺) since 1982. Dr. Higa is famous for creating EM technology. He created EM technology in order to address the problem of excess waste and bad farming techniques in the present-day world. EM stands for effective microorganisms It is a multi-culture of coexisting anaerobic (无氧的, 厌氧的) and aerobic (需氧的, 有氧的) microorganisms. Microorganisms (微生物) are the smallest complete units of life. They can exist independent of a bigger organism. Bacteria are considered microorganisms. They are constantly at work, some helping bigger organisms, and others bringing decay and bad health. These opposing processes of constructive and destructive forces are always ongoing, creating a balance. If the balance tips towards the destructive side, the host organism grows ill. If it tips towards the constructive side, the organism experiences good health. These organisms can be used in farming to create a good growing environment for all kinds of crops and animals. The process involves collecting human and animal waste products such as kitchen garbage and manure (粪肥). This is then sealed (密封) into a barrel along with a certain amount of EM powder. The microorganisms then turn the waste into mulch (覆盖物, 护根), which acts as a great source of nutrition for crops and animals. Rice paddies (稻田) that are treated with EM produce harvests that are much bigger than those of ordinary farms. Moreover, EM rice paddies require less tilling (耕作) and weeding than other paddies. Dr. Higa’s ideas have caught on around the world. One of his biggest successes was in North Korea, where his technology was used to create a record-breaking crop yield. EM helped many crops, such as corn, Welsh onions and Chinese cabbages in North Korea. 46. Why is Dr Higa famous? A. He is a professor of horticulture. B. He created EM technology. C. He started making too much waste. D. He is a great farmer. 47. Which of the following best describes microorganisms? A. The smallest complete units of life. B. Something that causes bad health. C. Necessary for good health. D. An unimportant part of farming. 48. What do microorganisms do in the EM process? A. They destroy waste products. B. They cause ill health. C. They turn waste into a useful mulch. D. They decrease the size of harvests. 49. What happened in North Korea? A. It was a rich country. B. They decided not to use EM technology. C. Dr. Higa was not invited to the country. D. EM technology led to a record-breaking harvest. 50. What is the best title of the passage? A. EM Technology. B. The destructive side. C. The constructive side. D. Ordinary farms. 46. B 47. A 48. C 49. D 50. Higa is famous for creating EM technology.(他因为EM技术而闻名)”以及“He created EM technology in order to address the problem of excess waste and bad farming techniques in the present-day world.(他发明EM技术是为了解决当今世界的过度浪费和不良耕作技术的问题)”可知,他因创造了EM技术而闻名。 根据第二段中“Microorganisms (微生物) are the smallest complete units of life.(微生物是最小完整的生命单位)”可知,微生物是最小的生命单位。故选A。 根据第三段中“The microorganisms then turn the waste into mulch (覆盖物,护根), which acts as a great source of nutrients for crops and animals.(然后,微生物将废物转化为地膜,这是作物和动物的重要营养来源)”可知,微生物的作用是将废物转化为地膜,为作物和动物提供营养来源。 根据最后一段中“One of his biggest successes was in North Korea, where his technology was used to create a record-breaking crop yield.(他最大的成功之一是在朝鲜,他的技术被用来创造破纪录的粮食产量)”可知,EM技术在朝鲜带来了破纪录的丰收。 故选A。 I was sitting in an introduction to calligraphy workshop when a fellow student asked the teacher, “ What do I need to become a professional calligrapher? ” We were all on the edge of our seats with that one. It was as if we were about to learn the secret ingredient to Grandma’s cookies. The answer, to our surprise, was pen and paper. “ The materials are no different than that of a beginner calligrapher, ” the instructor explained. The difference between a beginner and professional calligrapher is not in the tools they use, but rather in the professional’s commitment (奉献) to practice and the time they took to learn and do something. The same goes for any professional at their craft. When we look up to the expert, we think that increasing the quality of materials or having access to nicer resources is what makes them great. This assumption doesn’t take into account the time it would have taken them to learn something new and to achieve their goals. Instead, we want to cut corners, looking for a shortcut. We want to make progress as soon as possible. But it is not a strategy that necessarily benefits us. My current goal is to become an independent filmmaker. What would it take, what would I need to make the best movies? I too, wanted the shortcut. The direct way to achieve my goal. Is there a certain camera I need to have, light kit (工具箱), microphone or skill that would lead me right to success? After watching online videos about film-making, I realized I had all that I needed to achieve my goal. There was no shortcut to film-making. It was just going to take time. It’s easy to get caught in wasting time looking for a solution instead of time. In the end, we lose energy and motivation looking for the right tools or answers. We do things to go fast rather than far. We focus on the end result instead of allowing ourselves to enjoy the journey. Go for. Reach farther. Take the time to become your best self. 51. What does the underlined word “ craft ” mean in English? 52. What is the passage mainly talking about? 53. What is the difference between a beginner and professional calligrapher? 54. According to the passage, what is the author’s goal? 55. Do you think there is a shortcut to success? Why? 51. Skill. 52. It is about success taking time. 53. It is in the professional’s commitment to practice and the time they took to learn and do something. 54. To become an independent filmmaker. 55. I think there is no shortcut to success. Because success requires constant persistence, hard work, and long hours of accumulation and training. 根据第二段中的“The difference between a beginner and professional calligrapher is not in the tools they use, but rather in the professional’s commitment (奉献) to practice and the time they took to learn and do something.”(初学书法家和专业书法家的区别不在于他们使用的工具,而在于专业书法家对练习的投入以及他们花在学习和做一些事情上的时间。) 根据最后一段中“We do things to go fast rather than far. We focus on the end result instead of allowing ourselves to enjoy the journey. Go for. Reach farther. Take the time to become your best self.”(我们做事要快,而不是要远。 It is about success taking time. 根据第二段中的“The difference between a beginner and professional calligrapher is not in the tools they use, but rather in the professional’s commitment (奉献) to practice and the time they took to learn and do something.”(初学书法家和专业书法家的区别不在于他们使用的工具,而在于专业书法家对练习的投入以及他们花在学习和做一些事情上的时间。) It is in the professional’s commitment to practice and the time they took to learn and do something. 根据第五段中“My current goal is to become an independent filmmaker. ”(我现在的目标是成为一名独立电影人。)可知,作者的目标是成为独立电影人。故答案为To become an independent filmmaker. 根据题干“Do you think there is a shortcut to success? Why?”(成功有捷径么?)可推知,根据个人观点我认为成功是没有捷径的。成功需要不断地坚持、努力地付出以及长时间的积累和训练。故参考答案为I think there is no shortcut to success. Because success requires constant persistence, hard work, and long hours of accumulation and training. 1. You may still want a kind of exercise that’s inexpensive and easy to do. Why not try walking? Walking is something that almost any normal healthy person can do. D. They take the same amount of time. 44. Which of these would the author probably not consider serious walking? A. Walking 15 minutes a day. B. Walking while window shopping. C. Increasing your speed little by little. D. Walking just before jogging. 45. What is the best title of the passage? A. Don’t run too fast. B. A “born” runner. C. How to build up your time? D. Why not try walking? C Dr. Teruo Higa was born on December 28, 1941 on Okinawa and grew up there.
