文章中提到 “Tom was late for school this morning.”,有的考生可能会推断出 “Tom is always late for school.”,但原文中并没有提供关于 Tom 平时是否经常迟到的信息,这种推断就属于过度推理。
文章中提到 “In the past, people used horses to carry goods. But now, with the development of technology, trucks are widely used.”,如果考生忽略了 “now” 这个时间细节,可能会错误地认为现在人们仍然主要用马运输货物。
文章中说 “John didn't go to the party because he was busy.”,考生可能会误解为 “John didn't want to go to the party”,将原因从 “忙碌” 曲解为 “不想去”,导致推理错误。
文章中提到 “Some people think that the new policy is good, but the author believes it has some drawbacks.”,考生如果没有分清这两种不同的观点,可能会错误地认为作者也认为新政策是好的。
文章中提到 “Many students like playing basketball. So, all students like sports.”,从 “很多学生喜欢打篮球” 推出 “所有学生都喜欢运动”,这种推理缺乏逻辑,属于以偏概全。
例如,文章中提到 “Tom was late for school because his bike broke down on the way.”,题目可能就会围绕 Tom 迟到的原因进行推理提问。
比如,文章说 “Sarah has visited Paris three times and she always stays in the same hotel.”,从这个细节可以推断出 Sarah 对那家酒店可能有一定的偏爱。
3.提问方式多样:常见的提问方式有 “What can we infer from the passage about...?”“According to the text, why did...?”“What does the author imply by saying...?”
例如,文章中提到 “Mary went to the bookstore because she needed a new dictionary.”,若忽略 “needed a new dictionary” 这个细节,可能会错误推断 Mary 去书店是为了买其他东西。
如 “Lisa always reads books in her free time and she has a large collection of books at home.”,这里 “always” 和 “a large collection” 都暗示了 Lisa 对读书的热爱。
[片段]During the summer vacation, Mike went to a summer camp. He made many new friends there. They learned how to set up tents and cook food over a fire. Mike said it was the most interesting thing he had ever done.
What can we infer from the passage about Mike?
A. He is good at cooking.
B. He enjoyed the summer camp.
C. He will go to the summer camp again next year.
D. He made more friends than anyone else at the camp.
[分析]根据文章中 “Mike said it was the most interesting thing he had ever done.”

It’s 2010, outside of a school somewhere in the U.S. Some teenagers are talking. One says to another. “I’m tired of chillaxin after school. We do this 24/7. Let’s go get some eats.”
Two adults are walking by. They hear what the teenagers are saying, but they don’t understand a word. What the teenager said was, “I’m tired of hanging around after school. We do this all the time. Let’s go and get some food.”
This is nothing new. Teenagers always invent new words and phrases. They create words for everyday things, such as words that mean good or parents or bad or good-looking, and so on. Look at these different ways of saying good in recent decades (十年):
1960s-groovy
1970s-fab
1980s-wicked
1990s-sweet
2000s-tight
But, of course, the words you use depend on your interests, your friends, the music you listen to and the part of the country you live in. Different groups of teenagers have different likes and dislikes, and so they also have different expressions.
________ Many people think it’s because they don’t want adults to understand, but that probably isn’t true. The real reason is that teenagers want to feel that they’re part of a group that speaks the same language, a language that is different from the one their parents and other adults speak. And also teenagers like to be creative and play with language, so they have fun creating new words.
And what do the parents think about it all? Most of them don’t worry about it. After all, they had their own special words when they were teenagers, too. But some adults complain about “teen talk” and get very annoyed by it. But that’s all part of the fun for the teenagers!
1.The two adults can’t understand teenagers because ________.
A.they are from different countries B.teenagers speak in their own ways
C.they can’t hear the words clearly D.teenagers make mistakes while talking
2.In 1980s, teenagers said ________ instead of “good”.
A.wicked B.fab C.sweet D.groovy
3.Which of the following can be put in the ________ in paragraph 5?
A.Do people like speaking new words and phrases?
B.How do teenagers create new words and phrases?
C.So why do teenagers create new words or phrases?
D.Do teenagers create new words and phrases for fun?
4.The passage mainly tells us ________.
A.teenagers always have different likes and dislikes
B.parents dislike “teen talk” and got very annoyed by it
C.parents think it’s normal for teenagers to create special words
D.teenagers have fun creating new words to show their differences

Aren’t mobile phone, e-mail and voice mail supposed to help us communicate more easily? Sadly, that’s not always the case. Take the other day for example: when I was walking through the park with my friend, suddenly his mobile phone rang and he answered it—leaving me alone and cutting our conversation dead! In fact, the park was filled with people talking on their mobile phones. They were passing other people without even looking at them, or stopping to walk their dogs. Clearly, people can use mobile phones everywhere, but they ignore the people around.
Why is it that the more connected we get, the more disconnected I feel? New communication technology seems to keep away from each other. With e-mail over the Internet, we can communicate without seeing or talking to one another. With WeChat or QQ, you can have conversations without even meeting that person. Even some food stores are using self-scanners so that you can check yourself out. As the contact between human beings becomes automated, my feeling of being disconnected gets stronger. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against machines. I also own a mobile phone, a QQ, a WeChat and an e-mail account. Giving them up isn’t a good idea, as they are useful to have around. It’s just that when they keep us away from human contact, I begin to feel sad. Moreover, I find myself answering e-mail instead of talking to people. The technology that was made to help keep us in contact with each other is, in fact, making me feel more lonely.
What is to be done? Well, try to use less technology: no e-mailing people who live nearby, and no letting QQ and WeChat catch you all the time.
1.The purpose of the example in Paragraph 1 is to show that ________.
A.mobile phones bring a lot of convenience to people
B.mobile phones result in ignoring the others around
C.people communicate more easily with mobile phones
D.people are good at using mobile phones in their daily life
2.The underlined word “disconnected” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.
A.lonely B.satisfied C.stupid D.interested
3.It can be inferred from Passage 2 that ________.
A.technology keeps people busier than before
B.technology is always useful to have around
C.the writer is going to give up the mobile phone
D.the writer would like to contact people face to face
4.Which is the best title of the passage?
A.Technology and Human Life B.The Importance of Technology
C.Technology and Human Contact D.The Development of Technology
3.提问方式:常见的提问方式有 “What is the author's attitude towards...?”“How does the writer feel about...?”“What does the author think of...?”“What is the tone of the passage?”
比如,文章中提到 “Some people think the plan is perfect, but the author holds a different opinion.”,可能会误把 “Some people” 的观点当作作者的观点。
比如,“How could anyone support such a harmful policy?”
[片段]Some people think that e - books are convenient because they can carry many books on a single device. However, I believe that there's something special about the feeling of holding a physical book in your hands, turning the pages, and smelling the ink. There's a certain charm that e - books just can't replace.
What is the author's attitude towards e - books?
A. Supportive.
B. Doubtful.
C. Negative.
D. Neutral.

I went to my first concert last night.
The band I went to see was I-Prevail. But of course when you go to a concert, you can’t enjoy the band before you hear the openers. That was a bit of a shock to me considering that there were three openers before I-Prevail played anything. I honestly had never heard of any of the opening bands, but they weren’t bad at all.
Three hours passed and finally it was time for the band I came to see. But they didn’t sing when they got on stage (舞台). They first gave a speech to thank us for coming to watch their concert.
After the speech, the band finally began to play. Though that was my first concert, I had always talked to people who went to concerts a lot. They always seemed to mention that the group or singers doesn’t sound the same as they do on recordings. I-Prevail did not fall into this stereotype (陈规). The band sounded exactly like they do on their albums. That just shows this band was known for how good they are but not just how good they can make themselves sound on an album.
The concert was amazing and the night was great, but I honestly feel that a concert is 10 times better if you go with people you know and who just want to have a good time. The people I attended the concert with were amazing people and just had such a love for music, which made everything so much better. A concert is one thing, but having friends that enjoy music as much as you do is something you can’t miss. Last night was so much better just because I attended my first concert with some great friends.
1.How did the writer feel knowing there were three openers?
A.He found it hard to believe.
B.He considered it normal.
C.He became very angry.
D.He was happy about it.
2.What did the writer think of the band’s performance?
A.It was boring. B.It was old-fashioned.
C.It was wonderful. D.It was simple.
3.Why did the writer say “the night was great”?
A.He made some new friends that night.
B.He could watch the performance clearly.
C.He learned about the importance of friends.
D.He went with friends who also love music.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.My Most Valuable Experience.
B.My First Concert Experience.
C.My Favorite Music Band.
D.My Love for Music.

Technology Progress
On June 22, 1927, Charles Lindbergh flew into Dayton, Ohio, for dinner at Orville Wright’s house. It had been just a month since the young pilot's first ever individual nonstop crossing of the Atlantic, and he felt he ought to pay respects to the pioneer of flight.
Forty-two years later, on July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong was allowed to bring a personal guest to the Kennedy Space Center to view the launch of NASA's towering Saturn V rocket. Armstrong invited his hero, Charles Lindbergh. That's how fast technology advanced in the 20th century.
However, progress isn't what it used to be now. Northwestern University economist Robert Gordon argues that by 1970, all the key technologies of modern life were in place: electricity, highways, telecommunications, and the like. After that, innovation (创新)and economic growth simply couldn't keep going as fast as the last 100 years-a period Gordon calls "the special century". Gordon argues the lives of people in developed nations look and feel the same in 2020 as they did in 1979 or 1989.
Slowing down is good in one small way, though bad in most of the ways that count. Rapid changes can sometimes be disorienting And when things develop at a lower speed, people and institutions do have more time to breathe and fit in. But slowing down isn't what it should be. In many areas of technology, the forward movement today feels tragically slow, even nonexistent.
Consider consumer robotics. There's huge potential for robots to help us. But home robotics companies seem to keep folding. For example, social robot maker Jibo closed in March after raising almost $73 million.
Our century’s one signature technology achievement is smartphones. At this point, we've had them in our pockets long enough to begin to appreciate their dangers. Meanwhile, the list of possibly world-changing technologies that get people's attention but still remain in the original stage is very long. Self-driving cars, AR glasses. Need I continue?
Indeed, these are all hard problems. But historically, solving the big problems has required continuous, large-scale investment(投资), often with private markets and taxpayers sharing the cost. In this century, we need to undo some bad results of the last great boom (繁荣)by developing affordable zero-and negative-emissions technologies right now. That's another hard problem-and to solve it, we'll need to rethink what made the "special century" so special.
1.The writer mentions Charles Lindbergh in Paragraphs 1 and 2 to show that __________.
A.Charles has contributed greatly to technology
B.Charles paid respects to the pioneer of flight
C.technology developed rapidly in the 20th century
D.technology has advanced to a higher new level
2.The underlined word "folding” in Paragraph 5 probably means _____________.
A.shutting B.separating C.growing D.operating
3.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Some world-changing technologies are not making progress.
B.Home robotics companies failed because of little investment.
C.It's time to realize the disadvantages of fast development now.
D.It doesn't take us long before we realize the dangers of smartphones.
4.The writer probably agrees _______________.
A.markets and taxpayers have a duty to develop technologies
B.innovation and investment are needed for technology advance
C.what made the last century special will happen in the new century
D.rapid changes in technology are bad in most of the ways that count
要求考生推断作者的写作目的,常见的提问方式有 “Why did the author write this passage?” 等。
3.提问方式:常见的提问方式有 “What is the author's purpose in writing this passage?”“Why does the author write this article?”“The author writes the passage mainly to...?”“What is the main purpose of the passage?”
[片段]In recent years, the problem of air pollution has become increasingly serious. It not only affects our daily lives but also has a negative impact on our health. Many studies have shown that long - term exposure to polluted air can lead to various diseases. Therefore, it is high time that we took action to protect our environment and improve the air quality. We should start from small things, such as reducing the use of private cars and increasing the use of public transportation.
What is the author's purpose in writing this passage?
A. To introduce the causes of air pollution.
B. To show the importance of public transportation.
C. To call on people to take action against air pollution.
D. To discuss the impact of air pollution on people's health.

When you feel a sneeze (喷嚏) or cough coming on, covering your mouth prevents the spread of germs (细菌). You probably knew that.
But how to cover your mouth is very important. You might use tissues (纸巾) , and put your used tissues into the bin. “If you don’t have tissues, you should sneeze into your elbow, not your hand, even if you are used to doing that.” The doctors advised.
“If somebody sneezes into his hands those germs will be passed on to other people, or other objects that people touch.” said Dr. Hill.
Germs are most commonly spread by sneezing and coughing. When they land on your hands, they are passed from hands to things like bills, door knobs (扶手) , lift buttons and other surfaces. At the same time, the people around you can touch them.
“The suggestion was taken seriously about 10 years ago. However, most people didn’t pay much attention to it. That means the adults may have missed the advice. But children are often taught in school the right way to cough or sneeze.” Dr. Benjamin said.
To be clear, people can’t keep away from all the risks in this way, but it’s the best choice. At the same time, we’d better wear masks (口罩) and often wash our hands. “Hand washing is one of the most important things people can do to keep healthy.” Dr. Hill said.
1.If you sneeze into hands, germs can pass through the following activities except ______.
A.using lift buttons B.using door knobs C.shaking hands D.washing hands
2.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.You should cover your mouth with your hand when you cough.
B.You’d better sneeze into your elbow, if you don’t have tissues.
C.Parents often teach their children the right way to cough or sneeze.
D.Wearing masks is the only way to keep away from germs.
3.Which of the following has the closest meaning to the underlined word “spread” in para 4?
A.stopped B.passed C.cleared D.washed
4.What’s the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A.To tell us the correct way to use tissues when sneezing or coughing.
B.To tell us some correct ways to stop the spread of germs.
C.To tell us it’s necessary to sneeze or cough into elbow.
D.To tell us how to keep away from all risks.

Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) as underwater walls can help reduce the effects of hurricanes on coastal communities. This seems unbelievable. It is reported that scientists have discovered that coral reefs are even more effective than man-made sea walls under the water. However, coral reefs are especially easy to be influenced by climate change. Overfishing and pollution have also proved very dangerous to them. Since 1950, half of the world’s coral reefs have already been lost. To protect our communities and keep sea ecosystems alive, we need to protect coral reefs right away.
Let’s take a closer look at how coral reefs protect us from floods, and how scientists are restoring (修复) reefs.
The roles that coral reefs play as underwater walls have long been recorded by scientists. During a Category 3 hurricane in 2015 in Australia, the coral reefs effectively protected the eastern shoreline from flooding. In contrast, the western coasts without coral reefs suffered serious damage. The researchers observed that the shape of coral reefs can break the approaching waves. More recently, researchers at the University of Miami have reached the same conclusion. They used a special lab simulator (模拟装置) to recreate ocean conditions during a Category 5 hurricane. They found that coral reefs could reduce the impact of waves by up to 95 percent!
Because of higher ocean acidity (酸性) and temperature, coral reefs are disappearing and dying out. At the same time, climate change puts weakened coral reefs under more stress. The University of Miami researchers are testing to plant new coral reefs while others are actively looking for effective methods to reduce the acidity of sea water. The governments have also paid more attention to these actions and provided enough money for reef restoration. With these efforts, we may address climate threats to coral reefs and they can carry on protecting our communities.
1.What can we know about coral reefs?
A.They can reduce hurricanes. B.They are faced with danger now.
C.They can’t effectively prevent floods. D.They aren’t influenced by overfishing.
2.Which of the following is true according to paragraph 3?
A.A terrible hurricane attacked Australia in 2015.
B.Scientists paid little attention to coral reefs before.
C.Coral reefs could reduce the impact of waves to 95%.
D.The eastern coasts of Australia were damaged seriously.
3.What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of coral reefs?
A.Doubtful. B.Confused. C.Positive. D.Objective.
4.What’s the purpose of this passage?
A.To introduce the growth of coral reefs.
B.To explain the functions of coral reefs.
C.To encourage people to plant more coral reefs.
D.To stress the importance of protecting coral reefs.

3.提问方式:常见的提问方式有 “What will most likely happen next?”“What is the author most likely to talk about in the next paragraph?”“Which of the following would the author probably discuss in the next part?”
[片段]After a long and tiring journey, the explorers finally reached the mysterious island. They were excited to find that there were many strange plants and animals on the island. However, as they explored further, they realized that the island was not as peaceful as it seemed. There were some strange noises in the forest, and they started to feel a sense of danger.”
What will most likely happen next?
A. The explorers will leave the island immediately.
B. The explorers will continue to explore the island and find out the source of the danger.
C. The explorers will build a shelter and stay on the island for a long time.
D. The explorers will meet some friendly local people and ask for their help.

In the journey of learning, realizing that we might be wrong is not just modest (谦虚的), it actually helps us explore and understand more. This way of thinking makes us study further and search for the truth with an open mind. But does it help us in other ways besides learning facts? Researchers have studied how the students can improve the study habits and how well they do in school.
Students who accept that their ideas could be wrong are more likely to learn actively. They don’t just ask questions, try things out, and check if they understand correctly. This helps them find gaps (差距) in their knowledge, which makes them study harder and build a strong base for future learning. Being open to making mistakes also helps with studying and taking tests. These students learn to organize information, use their time wisely, and use memory skills to remember key ideas. Importantly, they see challenges and mistakes as chances to grow. A long-term study of high school students showed that those who were more modest not only got better grades but also solved school problems better.
On the other hand, students who think they know everything might get lazy, skipping important steps like thinking carefully. When they face problems in the exams, they often find out too late that they don’t understand things well.
Admitting (承认) we might be wrong isn’t a weakness, it’s a way to learn smarter. As my parents said wisely, “Everyone fails sometimes, but growth comes from keeping trying and learning from our failures.” By having a mindset that welcomes challenges and accepts the possibility of being wrong, we can understand subjects better and develop a lifelong love for learning and personal growth.
1.How do students become active learners according to Paragraph 2?
A.By thinking their ideas are always correct.
B.By accepting that their ideas could be wrong.
C.By never asking questions or trying new things.
D.By only studying for exams.
2.What might happen to students who think they know everything?
A.They become more hard-working. B.They skip important thinking steps.
C.They perform well in exams. D.They always find new challenges.
3.What does the writer think of admitting mistakes?
A.It is a smarter way to learn. B.It is a sign of weakness.
C.It is a waste of time. D.It is a bad habit.
4.Which of the following will the writer probably agree with?
A.Students should answer more questions to be smarter.
B.Students should try to get higher grades to be smarter.
C.Students should change their study skills to be smarter.
D.Students should learn from their failures to be smarter.

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.D

4.Which is the best title of the passage?
A.Technology and Human Life B.The Importance of Technology
C.Technology and Human Contact D.The Development of Technology
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.C
根据“They were passing other people without even looking at them, or stopping to walk their dogs. Clearly, people can use mobile phones everywhere, but they ignore the people around.”
根据下文“New communication technology seems to keep away from each other.”新的通讯技术似乎使人们彼此疏远,联系段尾“The technology that was made to help keep us in contact with each other is, in fact, making me feel more lonely.”
根据“Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against machines.”和“It’s just that when they keep us away from human contact, I begin to feel sad.”
根据“Well, try to use less technology: no e-mailing people who live nearby, and no letting QQ and WeChat catch you all the time.”

【答案】1.A 2.C 3.D 4.B
根据“That was a bit of a shock to me considering that there were three openers before I-Prevail played anything.” 故选A。
根据“The band sounded exactly like they do on their albums. That just shows this band was known for how good they are but not just how good they can make themselves sound on an album.”
根据“The concert was amazing and the night was great, but I honestly feel that a concert is 10 times better if you go with people you know and who just want to have a good time. The people I attended the concert with were amazing people and just had such a love for music, which made everything so much better.”
根据“I went to my first concert last night.”

【答案】1.C 2.A 3.A 4.B
根据“That's how fast technology advanced in the 20th century.”
根据下文“social robot maker Jibo closed in March after raising almost $73 million”由机器人制造商倒闭,可推知“folding”应是“关闭、倒闭”的意思,与shutting意思相同,故选A。
根据第三段最后一句“Gordon argues the lives of people in developed nations look and feel the same in 2020 as they did in 1979 or 1989.”Gordon提出2020年生活在发达国家的人们和1979或1989年感觉相同,所以一些改变世界的科技没有出现进步。故选A。
根据“But historically, solving the big problems has required continuous, large-scale investment(投资),”但从历史上看,解决重大问题需要持续、大规模的投资,可知,作者可能同意,技术进步需要创新和投资,故选B。

Hill said.

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.D

【答案】1.B 2.B 3.A 4.D
