Here’s our pick of the best, fastest, toughest and most enjoyable UK races this January. Lyle Mile Challenge Fort Matilda, Renfrewshire, 1 January For some reason, RunKeeper marks the route for this race as “easy”. Nothing could be further from the truth. A mile is never an easy distance to race, and this mile goes several steps further. Every inch of the route is uphill, starting at just above sea level near Fort Matilda train station. Once you catch your breath, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view across the water to Kilcreggan, weather permitting. Romsey 5 Mile Romsey, Hampshire, 19 January There aren’t a lot of five mile events out there to choose from, so this fast and flat event attracts a large number of runners from the super-speedy to the normal-speedy like the rest of us. This popularity can make the start a bit crowded but the runners will spread out soon, allowing you to enjoy a well-supported and well-organized race in the nice area of the Broadlands Estate. First Chance 10K Exeter, Devon, 5 January This 10K is fast and flat, so a good time should be possible, even if the sandy surface might not be quite as quick as tarmac (柏油路). You’ll mostly be following the various branches of the River Exe just outside Exeter. This course will be absolutely wonderful on a cold winter’s morning. Windmill Way Wander 2025 Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, 18 January There are options for every distance from 5K to 47K, but note that this event is not flat just because it’s on roads. Road conditions differ almost constantly, but with a generous seven-hour time limit you don’t have to rush if you don’t want to. 1. What is special about Lyle Mile Challenge? A. It is upward and tough. B. It needs special weather. C. It is an easy race in fact. D. It takes place near a sea. 2. Which race may offer the longest distance? A. Romsey 5 Mile. B. Lyle Mile Challenge. C First Chance 10K. D. Windmill Way Wander 2025. 3. What do Romsey 5 Mile and First Chance 10K have in common? A. They are fast and flat. B. The roads are crowded all the way. C. They are held on the same day. D. The runners should be super-speedy. A 2. D 3. 根据Lyle Mile Challenge部分中的“For some reason, RunKeeper marks the route for this race as “easy”. Nothing could be further from the truth. A mile is never an easy distance to race, and this mile goes several steps further. Every inch of the route is uphill(出于某种原因,RunKeeper将这场比赛的路径标记为“容易”。事实远非如此。一英里的比赛从来都不是一个容易的距离,而这一英里还要更艰难。这条路的每一寸路都是上坡路)”可知,Lyle Mile Challenge比赛的特别之处在于它全程都是上坡,而且很艰难。故选A。 根据文章Windmill Way Wander 2025部分“There are options for every distance from 5K to 47K(有5千米到47千米的距离选择)”可知,Windmill Way Wander 2025最长的距离是47千米,而Romsey 5 Mile为5英里,First Chance 10K为10千米。 根据Romsey 5 Mile部分中的“There aren’t a lot of five mile events out there to choose from, so this fast and flat event attracts a large number of runners from the super-speedy to the normal-speedy like the rest of us.(没有太多的五英里的赛事可供选择,所以这个快速而平坦的赛事吸引了大量的跑步者,从超高速到正常速度,就像我们其他人一样)”及First Chance 10K部分中的“This 10K is fast and flat, so a good time should be possible, even if the sandy surface might not be quite as quick as tarmac(柏油路).(这10公里又快又平,所以即使沙质表面可能不如柏油路快,也可能是一个好时机)”可知,这两个比赛的共同点是它们都很快,而且地势平坦。故选A。 B As I got my first close-up look at a bird, I knew bird watching was going to help me manage my pain. I was born with Kippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS), a rare vascular disorder During my childhood, I spent a lot of time in the hospital. As an adult, I always had doctors’ appointments lined up. Then, things got really bad in 2020. I was working in advertising at the time, filled with tight deadlines. My body broke down from stress, making basic tasks impossible. So, I slowed down and took up activities that required presence: yoga, meditation and journaling. When my pain was finally under control, my husband and I planned a trip to La Antigua, Guatemala. Knut, the co-owner of Cayaya Birding Guatemala, drove us to Finca el Pilar, a nature reserve. In the dark forest, strange bird calls filled the air. Knut played an owl call from a speaker, hoping to attract one. Just as dawn (黎明) broke and I lost interest, a real bird call sounded. Our owl friend landed in a nearby tree. Knut shone a flashlight. Through the binoculars (双筒望远镜), I saw every feather clearly. I whispered, “Thanks, owl; thanks, universe.” After a few minutes, the bird disappeared silently. More than 60 different species later, our two-day journey was over, and Knut invited us to his place to go over “the checklist”. Checklists are huge in the birding community. Birders have lists for everything: sightings, sounds and possible encounters. I hate to admit it, but I couldn’t wait to start box-checking. The trip was a huge success, which let my stress fly away. Birdwatching keeps reminding me that if I slow down and pay attention, what I’m looking for is usually right in front of me. 4. Why did the author start birdwatching? A. To follow her doctor’s suggestion. B. To explore nature with her husband. C. To escape her advertising job forever. D To relieve pressure and physical pain. 5. How did the author feel when she saw the owl? A. Anxious. B. Grateful. C. Depressed. D. Calm. 6. What is “the checklist” used for in paragraph 5? A. Tracking bird observations. B. Scheduling daily activities. C. Organizing future travels. D. Recording medical conditions. 7. What lesson did the author learn from birdwatching? A. The necessity of keeping journals. B. The joy of travelling with partners. C. The value of being patient and attentive. D. The significance of rushing through life. D 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第一段“As I got my first close-up look at a bird, I knew bird watching was going to help me manage my pain.(当我第一次近距离看到一只鸟时,我知道观鸟将帮助我控制我的疼痛。)” 根据第五段“Checklists are huge in the birding community. Birders have lists for everything: sightings, sounds and possible encounters.(在观鸟界,清单非常重要。观鸟者有各种清单:目击、声音和可能的遭遇。)”可知,“the checklist”是用来追踪观鸟观察的。故选A。 根据最后一段“Birdwatching keeps reminding me that if I slow down and pay attention, what I’m looking for is usually right in front of me.(观鸟不断提醒我,如果我放慢脚步,集中注意力,我要找的东西通常就在我眼前。)” C。 C Do you know the warning that people often give middle-aged joggers: don’t run too much or you’ll end up with bad knees? “It’s a myth,” says Richard Blagrove, senior lecturer in physiology at Loughborough University. While many believe that running is related to osteoarthritis (骨关节炎) in the knees, studies have shown that some runners have a much lower risk of developing it compared with those who don’t run. Research from 25 studies has revealed that running actually appears to be protective against hip and knee osteoarthritis as we age. Exercise causes very slight damage to muscles and bones but also leads them to grow back stronger and healthier. “There’s a far lower connection of knee pain in runners in their older years compared with those who don’t run,” says Blagrove. But it’s not that simple: short-term knee injuries are common for runners. Known as patellofemoral (髌股的) pain, it will be experienced by many joggers at some time — figures range from 14% to 42%. This pain is often caused by the wrong running technique, wearing the wrong trainers or, most likely, increasing the distance or the intensity (强度) of running too fast. This is particularly common for beginners. “But if they played tennis four times a week, compared with playing nothing, they would probably get an injury,” says Blagrove. “It’s not the running that’s bad for their knees; it’s the fact that they’ve done too much, too soon.” To avoid pain around the knees from running, start your training plan gently and build up intensity slowly. Run at a slower pace and shorter distances and take longer breaks between works. If your knees do hurt, don’t worry too much, says Blagrove. “People often bounce back quite quickly, once they have had a bit of rest and recovery.” 8. What does the underlined word “myth” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Proven fact. B. False opinion. C. Unsolved mystery. D. Hidden danger. 9. What is the main cause of short-term knee injuries in runners according to Blagrove? A. Running short distances. B. Wearing unsuitable shoes. C. Increasing intensity too rapidly. D. Hiring non-professional coaches. 10. Why does the author mention “tennis” in paragraph 4? A. To illustrate his point. B. To discuss its benefits. C. To show his preference. D. To stress its importance. 11. What advice does Blagrove give to avoid knee pain from running? A. Sticking to running on a daily basis. B. Avoiding resting between workouts. C. Running at a high speed continuously. D. Starting gently and increasing slowly. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据上文“Do you know the warning that people often give middle-aged joggers: don’t run too much or you’ll end up with bad knees?(你知道人们经常给中年慢跑者的警告吗:别跑太多,否则你的膝盖会出问题。)”和第二段“While many believe that running is related to osteoarthritis (骨关节炎) in the knees, studies have shown that some runners have a much lower risk of developing it compared with those who don’t run.(虽然很多人认为跑步与膝盖骨关节炎有关,但研究表明,与不跑步的人相比,一些跑步者患骨关节炎的风险要低得多。)” 根据第三段“This pain is often caused by the wrong running technique, wearing the wrong trainers or, most likely, increasing the distance or the intensity (强度) of running too fast.(这种疼痛通常是由错误的跑步技术、穿错运动鞋或最有可能的是过快地增加跑步距离或强度引起的。)”可知,跑步者短期膝盖受伤的主要原因是强度增加过快。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“But if they played tennis four times a week, compared with playing nothing, they would probably get an injury,” says Blagrove. “It’s not the running that’s bad for their knees; it’s the fact that they’ve done too much, too soon.(但如果他们一周打四次网球,而不是什么都不做,他们可能会受伤,”Blagrove说。“对他们的膝盖有害的不是跑步,而是他们做得太多,太快了。)”可知,作者提到网球是为了进一步说明跑步并不是导致膝盖受伤的原因,真正的原因是过度运动,即为了阐明他的观点。故选A。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“To avoid pain around the knees from running, start your training plan gently and build up intensity slowly.(为了避免跑步时膝盖周围的疼痛,要温和地开始你的训练计划,并缓慢地增加强度。)”可知,Blagrove给出的建议是慢慢开始,逐渐增加。故选D。 D Handwriting notes in class might seem old-fashioned as smartphones and other digital technology include every part of learning across schools. But a recent study in Frontiers in Psychology suggests it is still the best way to learn, especially for young children. And now scientists are focusing on why. The new research is based on a 2014 study that suggested people may type notes quickly, without thinking much about what they’re writing and although writing by hand is slower, it makes them actively focus on and process the incoming information. This way of building on existing knowledge can make it easier for students to stay interested and understand new ideas more easily. To understand specific brain-activity differences during the two note-taking methods, the researchers of the new study put 256 electrodes (电极) into a hairnet, which let the scientists record 36 students’ brain activity as they wrote or typed words. When students wrote by hand, the electrodes picked up widespread brain connectivity. Typing, however, resulted in little activity in brain areas. Vanderbilt University educational neuroscientist Sophia Vinci-Booher says the recent study stresses the clear tie between bodily movements and understanding ideas. “As you’re writing a word, you’re taking this continuous understanding of something and creating it.” That creation then affects and strengthens the connection between an action and the words concerning it. Vinci-Booher notes that the new findings doesn’t mean technology is always a disadvantage in the classroom. Digital tools can be more helpful for writing papers and offer more equal educational opportunities. However, more and more people are relying on digital tools to perform cognitive (认知的) tasks, such as taking photos instead of memorizing information. Yadurshana Sivashankar, a researcher at the University of Waterloo says, “If we’re not actively using these areas, then they are going to become worse over time.” 12. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By raising an opinion. B. By giving an example. C. By making a comparison. D. By stating a research result. 13. What can be learned from the experiment in paragraph 3? A. Writing by hand uses more brain power than typing. B. Electrodes were only used to record typing words. C. Electrodes were connected to students’ hair directly. D. Typing made the brain connectivity more active. 14. What would Sophia Vinci-Booher probably advise students to do? A. Take advantage of digital tools. B. Memorize words by writing. C. Use a new way to taking notes. D. Make better use of technology. 15. What is the main idea of the text? A. Technology is an advantage in classroom. B. Taking notes improves students’ brain activity. C. Writing by hand comes with learning benefits. D. Two note-taking methods have clear differences. 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了手写笔记对学习有益,尤其是对幼儿。 【12题详解】 推理判断题。由文章第一段中“But a recent study in Frontiers in Psychology suggests it is still the best way to learn, especially for young children. And now scientists are focusing on why. (但最近发表在《心理科学前沿》杂志上的一项研究表明,这仍然是学习的最佳方式,尤其是对年幼的孩子而言。现在,科学家们正致力于研究其中的原因。)”可知,作者通过陈述研究结果来引入话题。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“When students wrote by hand, the electrodes picked up widespread brain connectivity. Typing, however, resulted in little activity in brain areas. (当学生用手写字时,电极发现了广泛的大脑连接。然而,打字导致这些大脑区域的活动极小。)”可知,手写比打字更能激活大脑活动。故选A。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Vanderbilt University educational neuroscientist Sophia Vinci-Booher says the recent study stresses the clear tie between bodily movements and understanding ideas. “As you’re writing a word, you’re taking this continuous understanding of something and creating it.” That creation then affects and strengthens the connection between an action and the words concerning it. (范德比尔特大学教育神经科学家Sophia Vinci Booher表示,最近研究强调了身体动作和概念理解之间的明确联系,“当你写一个单词时,你正在对某物进行持续的理解,并创造它。”然后,这种创造会影响并加强动作与相关单词之间的联系。)”可知,Sophia Vinci Booher认为写单词可以增进持续的理解,所以Sophia Vinci Booher可能会建议学生通过写文章来记忆单词。故选B。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段“But a recent study in Frontiers in Psychology suggests it is still the best way to learn, especially for young children. (但最近发表在《心理科学前沿》杂志上的一项研究表明,这仍然是学习的最佳方式,尤其是对年幼的孩子而言。)”可知,本文主要介绍了手写笔记能增强学习效果,有助于学习。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Giving gifts is a lovely way to show we care, and when kids make handmade gifts, it’s even more special. There are lots of great things that come from this. It Makes Kids Creative When kids make handmade gifts, they get to be really creative. ___16___ For example, if they’re making a gift for their mom, they might think of painting a picture of their family doing something fun, like having a picnic. They can choose any colors they like and add little details. This helps them think in new ways and find different ways to show what they’re thinking. ___17___ Making handmade gifts also helps kids get better at using the small muscles in their hands. When they’re using a glue stick to attach pieces of paper, or when they’re threading a needle to sew a little pouch, they’re working these small muscles. These skills are really important because they can get better at using these muscles. Teaches Them to Be Patient Making a handmade gift isn’t always easy right away. Sometimes, things don’t go the way they want. For instance, if they’re trying to fold a paper crane (纸鹤) and it keeps falling apart, they might feel frustrated. But this is a great chance to learn patience. ___18___ Maybe they need to fold the paper more carefully or use a different technique. By not giving up, they learn that with time and effort, they can make their gift just right. Boosts Their Self-Confidence ___19___ They see that they were able to create something all by themselves. Imagine a child making a clay figurine (泥人) for their dad. When they hold it up and see how it turned out, they feel a big sense of accomplishment. And when their dad gets the gift and says how much he loves it, the child’s confidence grows even more. Builds Stronger Relationships Handmade gifts are very personal. When a child gives a handmade gift to a friend, it shows that they spent time thinking about that friend. For example, if a child makes a friendship card with their friend’s favorite colors, the friend will feel really special. This makes their friendship even stronger. It’s the same with family members. A handmade gift from a child to a grandparent can make the grandparent feel loved and remembered. ___20___ A. Helps with Small Muscle Skills B. Creates Quality Time Together C. They can use their imaginations to come up with all kinds of ideas. D. Creating gifts can be time-consuming but is often seen as a hobby. E. They have to keep trying and figure out what they’re doing wrong. F. When kids finish making a handmade gift, they feel proud of themselves. G. It helps kids understand how important it is to show love and care to the people they’re close to. 【答案】16. C 17. A 18. E 19. F 20. G 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文,文章介绍了孩子亲手制作礼物的意义。 【16题详解】 上文“When kids make handmade gifts, they get to be really creative.(当孩子们手工制作礼物时,他们真的很有创造力)”提到孩子们在手工制作礼物时很有创造力,C项“他们可以用他们的想象力想出各种各样的想法”也是关于孩子的创造力,符合语境,且与下文例子“For example, if they’re making a gift for their mom, they might think of painting a picture of their family doing something fun, like having a picnic.(例如,如果他们要给妈妈做礼物,他们可能会想到画一幅家人在做有趣的事情的画,比如野餐)”呼应,故选C。 【17题详解】 根据本段中“Making handmade gifts also helps kids get better at using the small muscles in their hands.(手工制作礼物也能帮助孩子们更好地使用手上的小肌肉)”可知,本段主要讲手工制作礼物帮助使用手部的小肌肉,A项“帮助小肌肉技能”符合语境,故选A。 【18题详解】 上文“But this is a great chance to learn patience.(但这是一个学习耐心的好机会)”和下文“Maybe they need to fold the paper more carefully or use a different technique. By not giving up, they learn that with time and effort, they can make their gift just right.(也许他们需要更仔细地折叠纸张或使用不同的技术。通过不放弃,他们了解到,通过时间和努力,他们可以做出合适的礼物)”可知,上文提到制作手工礼物是一个学习耐心的好机会,下文提到需要更仔细地折叠纸张或使用不同的技术,通过不放弃最后作出合适的礼物,故空处应是关于找出哪里做的不好,和下文提到的“通过不断改进不放弃,最终成功”衔接得当,E项“他们必须不断尝试,找出他们做错了什么”符合语境,故选E。 【19题详解】 根据下文“They see that they were able to create something all by themselves. Imagine a child making a clay figurine (泥人) for their dad. When they hold it up and see how it turned out, they feel a big sense of accomplishment.(他们看到他们能够自己创造一些东西。想象一下,一个孩子为他的爸爸做了一个泥人。当他们举起它,看看结果如何,他们会感到一种巨大的成就感)”可知,孩子看到自己完成的礼物时会有成就感,F项“当孩子们完成手工制作的礼物时,他们会为自己感到骄傲”符合语境,故选F。 【20题详解】 根据本段小标题“Builds Stronger Relationships(建立更牢固的关系)”和上文“A handmade gift from a child to a grandparent can make the grandparent feel loved and remembered.(孩子送给祖父母的手工礼物可以让祖父母感到被爱和被记住)”可知,本段是说制作手工礼物能和家人建立更牢固的关系,G项“它帮助孩子们理解向他们亲近的人表达爱和关心是多么重要”符合语境,故选G。 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I got Jeb, a donkey (驴), thanks to a Facebook post. One afternoon, it rained heavily. I was driving along the busiest section of the highway when I saw the traffic slowing down in front of me. Some cars even stopped. At first, I thought there was a car accident, so I slowed down my car to see. But I soon found out there was a dog in the middle of the road when I got close enough. The weather was bad, and the grey sky with the heavy rain gave the highway poor visibility (可见度). It might cause a traffic jam (堵塞) and of course, it was very dangerous to let the dog wander in the middle of the highway. I immediately turned on my blue lights because people usually slow down when they see the blue lights and called into the radio so they knew where I was. I pulled over, got out, and whistled (吹口哨) to attract the dog's attention. It seemed as if the dog knew I was its lifesaver (救生员). It walked to me and my car. Once the dog was in the car, I drove into the Petworks Animal Service. While waiting, I noticed the dog wearing a collar (颈圈) with its name “Luck”. I recorded a short video (视频) of the dog. Then an animal control officer came and took Luck to the shelter. I came back to work. I thought I might do something to let the dog's owner know their pet was found safe. 注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Arriving home, I posted (发布) the video of Luck online. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, Luck's owner was found. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 Arriving home, I posted (发布) the video of Luck online. I described some details about how I found Luck wandering on the highway during the heavy rain and how she was now safe at the shelter. I also wrote down the phone number of the shelter, hoping that Luck’s owner would see the post and come forward. The video quickly gained attention, with many people sharing it and expressing their gratitude for my actions. A week later, Luck's owner was found. I received a call from the shelter telling me that Luck’s owner had seen the video and was very excited to know that Luck was safe. The owner, a woman named Mary, had been searching for Luck for days. When she arrived at the shelter, Luck greeted her with excited barks and wagging tail. Mary thanked me for my kindness and quick thinking. Knowing I had helped reunite a lost pet with its owner, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction. 词汇激活 行为类 ①发现:find/spot ②表达:express/convey ③寻找:search for/hunt for 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude/appreciation/thankfulness ②激动的:excited/thrilled 【点睛】[高分句型1] I received a call from the shelter telling me that Luck’s owner had seen the video and was very excited to know that Luck was safe.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2] When she arrived at the shelter, Luck greeted her with excited barks and wagging tail.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 达州铭仁园学校2027届高一下学期第一次月考英语试题 (满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. C. First Chance 10K. D. Windmill Way Wander 2025. 3. What do Romsey 5 Mile and First Chance 10K have in common? A. They are fast and flat. B. The roads are crowded all the way. C. They are held on the same day. D. The runners should be super-speedy. B As I got my first close-up look at a bird, I knew bird watching was going to help me manage my pain. I was born with Kippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS), a rare vascular disorder (血管疾病). During my childhood, I spent a lot of time in the hospital. D. To relieve pressure and physical pain. 5. How did the author feel when she saw the owl? A. Anxious. B. Grateful. C. Depressed. D. Calm. 6. What is “the checklist” used for in paragraph 5? A. Tracking bird observations. B. Scheduling daily activities. C. Organizing future travels. D. Recording medical conditions. 7. What lesson did the author learn from birdwatching? A. The necessity of keeping journals. B. The joy of travelling with partners. C. The value of being patient and attentive. D. The significance of rushing through life. C Do you know the warning that people often give middle-aged joggers: don’t run too much or you’ll end up with bad knees? D Handwriting notes in class might seem old-fashioned as smartphones and other digital technology include every part of learning across schools. But a recent study in Frontiers in Psychology suggests it is still the best way to learn especially for young children. C By making a comparison. D. 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I got Jeb, a donkey (驴), thanks to a Facebook post. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Arriving home I posted (发布) the video of Luck online. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, Luck's owner was found. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
