Here we will take a look at some of the most famous Renaissance artists.
Leonardo da Vinci
Often referred to as a “Renaissance man”, Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) not only left behind notebooks filled with scientific observations and illustrations, but was also known for his works of art such as Virgin of the Rocks, Lady With an Ermine, Vitruvian Man, the Last Supper, the Mona Lisa. The last one still remains as the most visited work of art in the world.
Michelangelo Buonarroti
Known for his attention to detail and his knowledge of human body, Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) is celebrated as one of history’s finest sculptors. During his lifetime, the Florentine artist created several masterpieces admired for their lifelike details. These works include the iconic David (1501-1504) housed in Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia, the monumental Pieta (1513-1515) in the Vatican, and his series of Dying Slaves (1513-1515) located in the Louvre.
Tiziano Vecelli
Among the great names of the Italian Renaissance — Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino — there is also Tiziano Vecelli (1488-1576), the master of color. Sacred and Profane Love(1514) is one of the artist’s early paintings, which was made to commemorate (纪念) the marriage of the man who bought it. This work is an excellent example of Tiziano’s mastery of color.
1. Which is probably Leonardo da Vinci’s most popular artwork?
A. Vitruvian Man. B. The Mona Lisa.
C. The Last Supper. D. Virgin of the Rocks.
2. Where is Pieta permanently displayed?

NeSmith and Maxwell are long-time residents (居民) of Oglethorpe County, Georgia, and they have known each other for almost 50 years. In 2021, Maxwell called NeSmith to let him know that because of health problems, he would be closing his weekly newspaper, The Oglethorpe Echo. NeSmith decided to prevent the nearly 150-year-old local newspaper from being forgotten.
NeSmith remembered waking up at 6 a. m. after that phone call, He jumped into his truck and drove to The Echo offices. Upon arriving, he suggested that his friend think of a new solution.
“Well, what are we going to do?” Maxwell asked him. “Are you going to buy the newspaper?” NeSmith looked up, searching for an answer, Then, a sudden idea hit him.
He would create an organization and Maxwell would donate The Echo to it. After leaving the office, NeSmith called Charles Davis, director of the University of Georgia’s Grady College.
“I’ve got an idea,” NeSmith told him. “I want to turn The Echo into a real-life experience for students at Grady College who want to be reporters.” Davis loved the idea, and he and NeSmith developed a course with The Echo as its foundation. Students could experience a working newsroom which would act as a stepping stone into their careers.
Of course, they needed someone to run the newspaper. Then Andy Johnston, who had been teaching at Grady for a month, appeared, “I believe in the project. We’ve heard about other newspapers closing, especially in rural counties,” Johnston said, “When that happens, it means their only source of news and the only thing that holds people together is closing.
Johnston teamed up with Amanda Bright, who taught the course. Bright, a community reporter, helped create new digital platforms for The Echo, including an email newsletter and a website.
The Echo also ran on a team of 12 volunteers that worked at the main office. The reason The Echo was able to continue is that everyone worked together — the students, Grady College, NeSmith, Maxwell, and the residents of Oglethorpe County.
4. For what purpose did Maxwell call NeSmith?
A. To prevent his being forgotten. B. To keep him up to date on his health.
C. To ask him to come and pay him a visit. D. To tell him about a decision he had made.

根据第一段“In 2021, Maxwell called NeSmith to let him know that because of health problems, he would be closing his weekly newspaper, The Oglethorpe Echo.(2021年,Maxwell打电话给NeSmith,告诉他因为健康问题,他将关闭他的周报《The Oglethorpe Echo》)”可知,Maxwell打电话给NeSmith是为了告诉他自己做出的一个决定,也就是因为健康问题要关闭周报。
根据第五段“Davis loved the idea, and he and NeSmith developed a course with The Echo as its foundation. Students could experience a working newsroom which would act as a stepping stone into their careers.(Davis很喜欢这个主意,他和NeSmith以《The Echo》为基础开发了一门课程。学生们可以体验一个真正的新闻编辑室,这将成为他们职业生涯的垫脚石)”可知,格雷迪学院的学生能从《The Echo》中获得作为记者的工作经验。故选B。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第六段“When that happens, it means their only source of news and the only thing that holds people together is closing.(当这种情况发生时,就意味着他们唯一的新闻来源和唯一能把人们团结在一起的东西正在消失)”可知,Johnston认为《The Echo》很重要是因为它团结了当地居民。
C
In 1973, when Melissa Greene was in 6th grade, her parents bought the first flat on Hutchinson Island. The first time she ran down to the wild shore, she was shocked by the contrast to their earlier beach trips to Daytona, a people-packed spectacle of cars. On Hutchinson, the spectacle was the seashells (海贝). Today, on the same stretch of beach, she rarely finds large whole shells.
Among the most amazing natural objects, seashells represent both the surprise and wonder still promised by a trip to the beach - and the major changes underway on our coasts.
Many of the largest and best-known marine mollusks (海洋软体动物) - the animal architects that build seashells - have declined under fishing pressure. They are also harmed by rising ocean temperatures, and by pollution and runoff from the land. And they can be displaced by the severe erosion (侵蚀) caused by inlets - a growing problem on Hutchinson Island - as well as efforts to repair eroded beaches by recovering lost sand.
Twenty-five years ago, Sanibel Island became the first city in the U. S. to ban (禁止) “live shelling”, the practice of collecting and killing mollusks for their shells. The move to protect the individual lives of soft-bodied mollusks seems almost strange given ocean warming and other “tough realities of the changing world,” acknowledges José H. Leal, science director at Sanibel’s Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum.
But helping beach goers appreciate the animals inside the shell as much as the shiny exterior turns out to be a crucial step toward helping them understand what’s happening in the sea, Leal says. “If people understand the complexity of these animals and their importance, they will also realize the need to protect marine environments.”
Delaware Seashore State Park is taking so-called low-impact beach combing (赶海) a step further: asking visitors to leave empty shells alone, too. At the park, signs advise visitors to leave shells where they lie or take a photo of a marine creature in the sand. After all, the point of enjoying nature is that it is in a natural state.
8. What impressed Melissa Greene on Hutchinson Island when she was young?
A. The seashells. B. The tourists. C. The flats. D. The cars.
9. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The dangers marine mollusks face.
B. The changes seashells have experienced.
C. The efforts made to save marine mollusks.
D. The current situation of Hutchinson Island.
10. What does José H. Leal think of banning “live shelling”?
A. It slows down ocean warming.
B. It keeps people away from beaches.
C. It popularizes the collecting of seashells.
D. It raises people’s awareness of ocean protection.
11. What is the purpose of Delaware Seashore State Park’s advice?
A. To provide habitat for small creatures. B. To protect visitors from being harmed.
C. To attract marine creatures to the beach. D. To preserve the natural state of the beach.
A 9. A 10. D 11. D
根据第一段中“The first time she ran down to the wild shore, she was shocked by the contrast to their earlier beach trips to Daytona, a people-packed spectacle of cars. On Hutchinson, the spectacle was the seashells (海贝). (当她第一次跑到荒凉的海岸时,她被与他们之前去代托纳海滩旅行的对比所震惊,那里挤满了人,到处都是汽车。在哈钦森岛上,最引人注目的是海贝。)”可知,当Melissa Greene第一次跑到哈钦森岛的野生海岸时,让她印象深刻的是那里的海贝。故选A项。
根据第三段“Many of the largest and best-known marine mollusks (海洋软体动物) - the animal architects that build seashells - have declined under fishing pressure. They are also harmed by rising ocean temperatures, and by pollution and runoff from the land. And they can be displaced by the severe erosion (侵蚀) caused by inlets - a growing problem on Hutchinson Island - as well as efforts to repair eroded beaches by recovering lost sand. 故选A项。
根据第五段“But helping beach goers appreciate the animals inside the shell as much as the shiny exterior turns out to be a crucial step toward helping them understand what’s happening in the sea, Leal says. “If people understand the complexity of these animals and their importance, they will also realize the need to protect marine environments.” (It raises people’s awareness of ocean protection)。
根据最后一段“Delaware Seashore State Park is taking so-called low-impact beach combing (赶海) a step further: asking visitors to leave empty shells alone, too. At the park, signs advise visitors to leave shells where they lie or take a photo of a marine creature in the sand. After all, the point of enjoying nature is that it is in a natural state. (To preserve the natural state of the beach)。故选D项。

One year ago, in an art competition at the Colorado State Fair in the United States, an artwork created with help from artificial intelligence (AI) called “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial” won the first prize in the digital art category and sparked discussions online. Now, officials with the 151-year-old fair have revised the contest’s rules: Artists must claim whether they used AI to make their entries, reports the Denver Post’s John Wenzel.
The saga (事件) began last August, when game designer Jason Allen won the top spot in the fair’s digital arts competition. When he shared his victory online, he mentioned that he’d used Midjourney — an AI program that turns text into images — to help create his piece, titled “Th éâtre D’opéra Spatial”.
Allen maintained he was open about using AI from the beginning, though the judges said they didn’t know until after the fact. Either way, claim wasn’t necessary at the time, meaning Allen never broke any rules.
His victory was controversial (有争议的) — and now, as a result, officials have decided to tweak the submission requirements. At this year’s fair, which took place in Pueblo between August 26 and September 4, artists needed to “tell if art or artwork was created using an Artificial Intelligence Generator,” according to this year’s requirements.
Allen wasn’t happy about the new requirement, telling the Denver Post that it was essentially a “discriminatory mark” against AI artworks. Despite the change, he decided to submit once again to the digital arts category.
The fair’s leaders say they plan to continue adapting as technology advances. As ScottStoller, the fair’s general manager, tells the Denver Post, the digital arts category itself has only been around for a few decades. In the future, officials may even decide to add a separate AI category, depending on how popular tools like Midjourney become.
“That’s the beauty of art — that it’s always evolving,” says Stoller. “Art can be anything, and anything can be made into art.”
12. What can be learnt about Jason Allen?
A. He developed an AI program.
B. He revised the rules of an arts contest.
C. He won first place in an art competition.
D. He was the leader of the Colorado State Fair.
13. What does the underlined word “tweak” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Select. B. Revise. C. Continue. D. Create.
14. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Allen broke the art competition rules.
B. Some people thought Allen deserved the victory.
C. Artists can’t use AI to make their entries.
D. Th éâtre D’opéra Spatial was completely created by AI.
15. What’s Stoller’s attitude towards the AI artworks?
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Approving. D. Unconcerned.
C 13. B 14. B 15. C

根据第三段“Allen maintained he was open about using AI from the beginning, though the judges said they didn’t know until after the fact. Either way, claim wasn’t necessary at the time, meaning Allen never broke any rules. 第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a freshman in high school, I noticed a student who was different from others. His name was Kyle. Kyle had a physical problem that made it difficult for him to move around like everyone else. He used crutches (拐杖) to walk, which sometimes made him a target for bullying (欺侮) by some unfriendly students. One day, a group of mean kids ran towards him, knocking all his books out of his arms, and he fell to the ground. His glasses flew off, and I saw them land on the ground about ten feet away from him. He looked up, and I saw deep sadness in his eyes.
I felt sorry for him. So, I ran over to him, and as he searched for his glasses, I saw a tear in his eye. I gave him his glasses back and said, “Those guys are mean. They should find something better to do.” He looked at me and said, “Hey, thanks!”
We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a really nice boy. We hung out every weekend, and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him. Despite his challenge, Kyle had a great spirit. He never let his difficulties define him and always faced them with bravery and a positive attitude.
Kyle was the top student in our class. He was one of those guys who really grew a lot during high school. Sometimes I felt a bit envious. And the day when we held the graduation ceremony was one of those days. I could see that he was worried about his speech. So, I patted him on the back and said, “Hey, big guy! You’ll do great!!”
He looked at me with that really grateful look and smiled. “Thanks,” he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat and began, “Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you get through the tough times. Your parents, your teachers, your brothers and sisters, maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. I’m here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I’m going to tell you a story.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I just looked at my friend in surprise as he told the story of the day we met.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I smiled back, tears in my eyes.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I just looked at my friend in surprise as he told the story of the day we met. Kyle recalled that he had thought about running away over the weekend. He talked about how he had cleaned out his school’s locker so his mom wouldn’t have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. Meanwhile, I noticed he looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. “Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from making a big mistake.” I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this friendly, well-liked boy shared his vulnerable moment. When his eyes met mine, I could see tears shining in his smiling eyes.
I smiled back, tears in my eyes. It wasn’t until that moment that I realized how much of a difference one small act of kindness had made to him. I even saw his mom and dad looking at me, smiling that same grateful smile. It hit me that we should never underestimate the power of our actions. With one small act, we can change a person’s life, for better or for worse.

A Select. B. Revise. C. Continue. D. Create.
14. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Allen broke the art competition rules.
B Some people thought Allen deserved the victory.
C. Artists can’t use AI to make their entries.
D. Th éâtre D’opéra Spatial was completely created by AI.
15. What’s Stoller’s attitude towards the AI artworks?
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Approving. D. Unconcerned.

When I was a freshman in high school I noticed a student who was different from others.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
