Hello, everyone. I’m very happy to be invited to this programme today. I’d like to share with you my impression of Paris. Actually, there’s something interesting to see in every corner of Paris. The weather’s been great too. Some aspects of life here are different from those in the US. The most obvious thing is that there are much more activities in the streets. People gather together in open markets, cafes, parks and squares. Then, of course, there’s the food. It’s beautifully shown in windows and at markets. Everything is fresh. I’ve gained five pounds since I arrived. There are a few things that bother me, though I’m still having a hard time with the language. People speak very fast and it’s hard to get them to repeat things. People, I think, are less warm here and it’s hard to make friends. I guess that can be true for us, strangers in any big city, in a new country.

For us, one of the many cultural shocks we experienced was during our time in Bolivia. We spent five months traveling around South America but Bolivia surprised us most. Tourism and the approach to service in Bolivia are, to some extent, underdeveloped, which is not necessarily bad. However, you might get the feeling that the locals don’t like your presence. At times we didn’t feel welcome at all.
Bolivians will stare at you, give angry looks, and often won’t even say hi when you come to their stores and restaurants. After some conversations with locals, we were told that the negative attitude had nothing to do with us. Bolivians are just not used to foreigners and don’t really know how to handle tourists. But we can’t even blame them. After a long and hard time as a Spanish colony, people are still very suspicious of foreigners.
What we loved most and surprised us is how Bolivians keep their traditions alive, which is truly amazing. We often saw locals wearing their traditional clothes and marketing their self-made medicine. These and other efforts to preserve their customs deserve respect. You just can’t see that in many countries in the world.
I loved their clothes so much that I borrowed a traditional Bolivian dress to try to overcome the "tourist vs local barrier" and show the locals on the island that we truly love their culture and appreciate it. The experience was absolutely wonderful. We walked to the sunset point and locals were smiling and waving at us, cheering and we felt like we had a "connecting moment".
Even though we had this cultural shock and despite the negative feelings at the beginning of our travels in Bolivia, we have to say that we will never forget how special Bolivia was to us.
24. How might newcomers feel about Bolivians?
A. They are cold. B. They are gentle. C. They are clever. D. They are generous.
25. What shaped Bolivians’ attitude to foreigners?
A. Foreigners’ rude manners. B. The location of the country.
C. Local people’s lack of knowledge. D. The unpleasant history of the country.
26. What’s the author’s favorite about Bolivians?
A. They seldom blame foreigners. B. They are good at doing business.
C. They have many self-made items. D. They preserve their traditions well.
27. Which of the following best describes the author’s trip to Bolivia?
A. Restless. B. Eye-opening. C. Fruitless. D. Awkward.

Have you ever thought about what blind people dream about? If most of their world is dark, what do their dreams look like?
Because dreaming is a function of the brain and not the eyes, blind people do dream. Blind people dream about much the same things as sighted people, though the way they dream may be a little different. Dreams can contain all aspects of the senses, from sight, taste, touch, smell to sound. Most dreams consist of visual (视觉的) and auditory (听觉的) elements, but less than 1 percent of reported dreams contain the other three senses. This may simply be because most people heavily depend on sight and sound in daily life. But blind people report dreams containing the senses of smell, taste and touch more than sighted people do.
It is proved that if a person became blind before the ages of about 5 to 7, their dreams will not contain visual images but those who became blind later in life may contain. This indicates that the brain’s ability to dream in images develops before the ages of 5 to 7. The longer a person has been blind, the less visual content their dreams contain.
Similar to the findings about whether blind people can see in their dreams, research shows that it is possible for blind people to dream in color if they have had sight in their life. Those who lost their sight more recently are more likely to have more color and images in their dreams. It doesn’t make sense that someone would dream in black and white unless that’s what they see during the day. There are many ways to interact with (与……互动) the world in waking life, and this is true of dream life.
28. What will happen if a person becomes blind before 5?
A. His dream will contain nothing. B. His brain’s ability cannot develop well.
C. He may not be able to dream in images. D. He spends longer time dreaming in pictures.
29. What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A. We depend on sight and sound in daily life too much.
B. The senses we use most in life will show up more in dreams.
C. Blind people’s brains are different from those of sighted people.
D. Blind people’s dreams never contain the senses of sight and sound.
30. What decides whether blind people dream in color or not?
A. How they connect with the world. B. What they have experienced in waking life.
C. Why they lost their sight recently. D. What they can see in their dreams.
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Why the blind dream. B. How the blind dream.
C. When the blind dream. D. What the blind dream.
C 29. B 30. B 31. D
根据第三段的“It is proved that if a person became blind before the ages of about 5 to 7, their dreams will not contain visual images but those who became blind later in life may contain.(事实证明,如果一个人在5到7岁之前失明,他们的梦不会包含视觉图像,但那些后来失明的人可能会包含视觉图像。)”
根据第二段的“Dreams can contain all aspects of the senses, from sight, taste, touch, smell to sound. Most dreams consist of visual and auditory elements, but less than 1 percent of reported dreams contain the other three senses.(梦可以包含感官的各个方面,从视觉、味觉、触觉、嗅觉到声音。大多数的梦包含视觉和听觉元素,但只有不到1%的报告包含其他三种感官。)”可知,我们在生活中最常用的感官(视觉和听觉)会在梦里更多地出现,故选B。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Similar to the findings about whether blind people can see in their dreams, research shows that it is possible for blind people to dream in color if they have had sight in their life. Those who lost their sight more recently are more likely to have more color and images in their dreams. It doesn’t make sense that someone would dream in black and white unless that’s what they see during the day.(与关于盲人是否能在梦中看到东西的发现类似,研究表明,如果盲人在生活中有视力,他们就有可能做彩色的梦。那些最近失明的人更有可能在他们的梦里看到更多的颜色和图像。梦到黑白两色是说不通的,除非他们白天看到的是黑白两色。)”可知,他们在现实生活中的经历决定了盲人的梦是否有颜色,故选B。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Have you ever thought about what blind people dream about? If most of their world is dark, what do their dreams look like?(你有没有想过盲人会梦到什么?如果他们的世界大部分是黑暗的,他们的梦是什么样子的?)”和第二段的“But blind people report dreams containing the senses of smell, taste and touch more than sighted people do.(但据报道,盲人的梦比正常人更多地包含嗅觉、味觉和触觉。)”

When it comes to being fit and healthy, we’re often reminded to aim to walk 10,000 steps per day. This can annoy many, especially when we’re busy with work and other commitments — and yet where did this number actually come from?
The 10,000 steps a day target seems to have come about from a trade name pedometer sold in1965 by Yamasa Clock in Japan. The device was called “Manpo-kei”, which translates to “10,000 steps meter”. This was a marketing tool for the device and has seemed to have stuck across the world as the daily step target. It’s even included in daily activity targets by popular smartwatches, such as Fitbit.
Research has since investigated the 10,000 steps a day target. But while some research has shown health benefits at 10,000 steps, recent research from Harvard Medical School has shown that, on average, around 4.400 steps a day is enough to significantly lower the risk of death in women. This was when compared to only walking around 2,700 steps daily. The more steps people walked, the lower their risk of dying was, before leveling off at around 7,500 steps a day. No additional benefits were seen with more steps. Although it’s uncertain whether similar results would be seen in men, it’s one example of how moving a little bit more daily can improve health and lower risk of death.
Recent research at the University of Texas has also demonstrated that if you’re walking fewer than 5,000 steps a day, your body is less able to metabolize (新陈代谢) fat the following day. A buildup of fat in the body can also increase a person’s likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This is further supported by previous research which shows people who walked less than 4,000 steps a day could not change this decreased fat metabolism.
If you want to increase how many steps you get daily, or simply want to move more, one easy way includes walking to work if possible, or taking part of an online exercise program if you’re working from home. Meeting with friends for a walk — rather than in a cafe or pub — can also be useful.
32. What does the author think of the 10,000 steps per day?
A. It is an upsetting target to achieve. B. It is likely to go out of style quickly.
C. It is a rising tendency of mental health D. It is effective in reducing pressure on work.
33. What does research from the Harvard Medical School suggest about the target?
A. It matters as much as 7500 steps a day. B. The more steps, the lower risk of death.
C. A bit more than the target can improve health. D. About half that target appears to be beneficial.
34. What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us?
A. Absence of previous research. B. Recent findings of fat buildup.
C. Problems of less daily walking. D. Possible causes of physical challenges.
35. Which of the following is one of the suggested ways according to the passage?
A. Working at home. B. Treating friends in a cafe or pub.
C. Driving lo work. D. Signing up for online exercise programs.
A 33. D 34. C 35. D

根据句意和句子结构可知,本空应填介词with,表示“具有”,后接名词短语a history of more than 1,200 years作后置定语,修饰an old street。故填with。
故填were built。
From the Ming and Qing dynasties to today可知,本空应该用现在完成时,表示从过去持续到现在的动作或状态,主语为it,助动词用has。故填has been。

根据句意和句子结构可知,the light of the old street is gradually darkening和the prosperity is gone之间是并列关系或对比关系或时间上的同时发生,所以应该用并列连词and或表示对比的连词while或表示“随着”的as连接。故填and/as/while。
故填its。

When Micah was a child, I used to do many things with her. Later, I got promoted and was always on constant business holidays. 3 years’ devotion to work resulted in my absence from her life and now she was a teenage girl. Recently, I eventually managed to have enough time to accompany her.
For the last few weeks, Micah had watched mockingbirds make a nest in a tree and lay eggs there. Sometimes, I came to stay with her without being invited. But whenever I tried to break the ice, “I’m good” was about all she said to me. Or “Leave me alone.”
“Why doesn’t she want to do things with me?” I thought as I set the table for dinner one evening, hoping for an emotion bridge to reappear between us. Did she feel hurt with my long absence? Lost in thought, I was seeking to mend the relationship.
“Mom!” Micah yelled suddenly. “Come quick!”
Surprised, I rushed out, only to find a little baby bird on the ground, weak and helpless. My eyes went to the branches above.
“The wind must have blown him out of the nest,” I said.
“No, it was Mr. Whiskers — our cat. You let him go outside!” Micah said, a bit annoyed.
Looking at the nest without the parents, “I’m sorry,” I said and put the bird in my palm cautiously and gently. She didn’t reply, but did not refuse my offer to help, either. Deciding to take care of the little baby till it became independent, I placed it in its nest.
“What should we do next?” I asked. No answer again. Instead, Micah went inside and brought her iPad. “Bird videos?” I asked. “Yes, I’m finding out what to feed it,” she said seriously.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Soon, Micah smiled broadly, “I’ve got it.”

Before long, the bird food arrived and we fed the bird “Chance” at once.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Soon, Micah smiled broadly, “I’ve got it.” “What do we need?” I asked again. She said the baby bird needed some special bird food. Hearing this, I immediately phoned to place an order. While waiting for delivery, Micah added that we needed to name the bird to build a bond. “How about Chance? I think it has a good chance of making it with your help,” I proposed. She didn’t say a word but nodded with a bright smile.
Before long, the bird food arrived and we fed the bird “Chance” at once. To our relief, the special food was to its taste. The following weeks, we went to feed and check on Chance every day. One day, Micah shared with me happily her finding that Chance became independent. Looking at her shining face, I was almost moved to tears. I never imagined that the bird Chance became the real chance to rebuild the emotion bridge between us. From then, I decided to accompany her more, just as what we had done to Chance. Company is the best love.

D

Hello, everyone, i'm very happy to be invited to this program today. I'd like to share with you my impression of paris. Actually, there's something interesting to see in every corner of paris the weather being great too. Some aspects of life here are different from those in the U. S. The most obvious thing is that there are much more activities in the streets. People gather together in open markets, cafe parks and squares. Then of course, there's the food is beautiful ly shown in windows, and that markets, everything is fresh. I've gained five pounds since I arrived. There are a few things that bother me, though. I'm still having a hard time with the language. People speak very fast and it's hard to get them to repeat things. People, I think, are less warm here and it's hard to make friends. I guess that can be true for our strangers in any big city in a new country. Hello everyone, i'm very happy to be invited to this program today. I'd like to share with you my impression of paris.
