动名词是非谓语动词的一种形式,由动词原形+ing构成。它既有动词的特征,又有名词的特征,故称动名词。动名词也有时态和语态的变化,如表所示(以do为例),不及物动词没有语态的变化。

1.作主语
(1)动名词直接位于句首(谓语动词用单数)
Seeing is believing.

2.作宾语
(1)作动词宾语
某些动词后只能用动名词作宾语,不能用不定式。常见的此类动词(短语)有:advise, suggest, allow, permit, avoid, consider, enjoy, finish, cannot help, imagine, include, keep, keep on, mind, miss, delay, practise, resist, postpone, deny, escape, put off, give up等。
We're considering buying a new car.

Grammar 动词ing形式(动名词)作主语和宾语
(1)在固定句式find /think/consider/ ... +it +no use/ no good ... +动词ing形式中,it作形式宾语时,动词ing形式是真正的宾语。
(2)在love, like, hate, prefer等动词后,如果表示一般倾向,多用动词ing 形式作宾语;如指特定的或具体的某次行为,多用动词不定式作宾语。
(3)在remember, forget, stop, try, regret, mean等词后,既可接动词不定式又可接动词ing形式,但意义不同。

(2)作介词宾语
动词ing形式位于介词之后,构成介词短语,在句中作定语或者状语。接动词ing形式的介词短语有: think of/about, dream of/about, hear of, prevent/keep/stop ... from ..., depend on, set about, succeed in, worry about, burst out, insist on, be/get used to, devote ... to ..., look forward to, pay attention to, get down to, be good at, do well in, be fond of, be interested in, be tired of, be afraid of, feel like, prefer ... to ..., instead of, in case of等。
These measures have created conditions for raising the output of steel.

动词ing形式的前面可以有自己的逻辑主语以构成复合结构,其形式有以下几种:

During the race, Lauda crashed into an embankment. His vehicle caught fire! Not only had he sustained terrible burns to his face, but he had also absorbed toxic fumes, damaging his lungs and blood.
