When you tend to talk too much, people undervalue what it is that you bring to the table, which means being too talkative can lead to issues with socializing and making friends. But how to be less talkative?
1 . When the other person suggests that they want to talk, do something to show that they have your full, undivided attention. Close the book you're reading or put down your phone and face your body towards them with open arms to show them that you’re ready to listen.
Think before you respond. Always try to think twice before you speak. 2 , think about questions to ask that can grant you clarity. Avoid saying more than you have to be by taking a moment to reflect after the speaker asks you for your opinion.
Only speak on something when it is appropriate. Discuss what makes sense and try to stay away from examples that may seem irrelevant, unreasonable, and ambiguous 3 , if you don’t know what you want to say. For example, “What does this mean? Who can we hold responsible, how, and why?” This encourages others to speak more.
Keep conversations balanced by asking questions. In balanced conversations, people say what they have to say. Rather than talking until something comes up, balance the conversation by saying things like “Enough about me. What do you think?” and “I know we’ve been talking a lot about my opinion, I want to hear your opinion, too!” If you have a question about something or need clarification, don’t interrupt the person while they’re talking. 4 .
Practice staying on topic by challenging and recording yourself. Record yourself talking and see if you start to depart from the topic. 5 . Once you’re able to do that, try to make your point in 30 seconds. This exercise can help you stay on topic and avoid wandering.
A.Observe body language
B.Show your willingness to listen
C.Ask more investigative questions
D.If you are confused about the topic at hand
E.If you find yourself interrupting others or talking over them
F.Instead, wait for them to finish their thought and then respond
G.If so, challenge yourself to make your point in under one minute

I frequently see online videos where a group of girls travel to a destination as friends but leave as enemies. It’s generally assumed that these friendship breakups result from different travel preferences or lack of conflict resolution skills. 1 Luckily, there are ways to minimize arguments and ensure your friendships survive your next group trip.
2 Regarding accommodations, for instance, you’d rather check into a Youth Hostel than a five-star hotel so that you can spend more on good meals. What need you prioritize should get across to your friends, in which case there’ll be no surprises when you’re trying to pick out an Airbnb or make dinner reservations.
Do your friends prefer a structured itinerary (行程) that starts at 7 a.m., or would they like to rise at their leisure and wing it for the day? Are they down to party until dawn, or do they want to call it a night by 10 p.m.? 3 The same goes for boundaries. Better to know what makes them uncomfortable beforehand than have to negotiate mid-trip.
Are you one who rigidly sticks to a travel itinerary and allows zero flexibility? 4 I find it helpful to have a loose itinerary shared before the trip. You can always revise your daily schedule, but some structure is key, or else you’re spending half your vacation researching.
Some people need a break to recharge or sleep and others may want to work out or read a book. 5 It’s everyone’s vacation, so everyone should get independent periods to use as they wish.
A.It pays to tour with friends.
B.I believe it’s a mixture of both.
C.Don’t forget to block out alone time.
D.Be frank about your budget and preferences.
E.If the answer is yes, you’ll have to make a change.
F.There is no point in complaining about external disturbance.
G.Setting schedule expectations helps you plan the trip effectively.

In ancient times, the more information our ancestors had, the more likely they were to survive. However, nowadays, this is the first time in history that humans have been exposed to such a constant flow of information. While it’s important to stay informed, too much information can make us feel confused and anxious. As we all know, too many high-calorie foods can lead to obesity. 1
We’ re not just seeking relevant information to increase our chances of survival anymore. We fall into rabbit holes, scroll (滚屏) our feeds mindlessly, and watch video after video by clicking on the recommended links. 2 And we have lost control over the content we consume. Just as you try to eat healthily to improve your physical health, going on an information diet is a way to control what you consume to take care of your mental health. Here are some simple ways to start an information diet to break the information addiction.
Prevent unwanted information. 3 Make sure to set up filters. Try some apps to unsubscribe from unwanted emails.
Dress the table. Shape your environment to make sure you’re not overly tempted to have access to too much useless information. 4 For example, you can change your social media settings to reduce the number of notifications.
Add more offline foods to your content menu. Increase your levels of “offline foods” — content you can consume away from a screen and that you can purchase or download in advance.
5 It’s incredibly effective to block time for reading stuff online. If you’re really struggling with information addiction, you can even put a timer on. This will force you to prioritize information that really matters.
A.Focus on reading stuff online.
B.We are addicted to information.
C.Schedule your content consumption.
D.Subscribing to many newsletters can quickly become a mess.
E.You can also adopt some effective strategies to reduce distractions.
F.Similarly, this new information overload encourages over consumption.
G.Instead, it’s about designing your habits and shaping your environment.

As a leadership consultant for many years, I’ve found many of the leaders I work with report feeling frustrated (沮丧的) as they face the continuous change and uncertainty in the growing challenges of their roles. 1 Throughout their careers, leaders are conditioned to come up with the final, correct answer. Given that human's brains are hardwired to see uncertainty as a risk or threat, it’s physiologically normal to feel stress when faced with unfamiliar situations.
Sadly, in the world of leadership training, we often celebrate qualities like decisiveness, innovation, and resilience (抗逆力). 2 Without it, even the most talented leaders struggle to sustain their success.
According to the psychological definition, frustration tolerance involves the capacity to bear discomfort, regulate emotional responses, and maintain a forward mindset in the face of challenges. 3 It not only allows leaders to stand the discomfort of building something meaningful without giving up but also helps them stay grounded and purposeful, even when immediate results aren’t what they hoped for.
4 Leaders can train their frustration tolerance by pursuing goals outside of leadership that don’t offer instant rewards. Try going to the gym teaching discipline, patience, and the value of gradual progress. These experiences build resilience and reinforce frustration tolerance as a transferable skill. 5 Leadership and entrepreneurship are marathons, not sprints (冲刺) . Honoring your energy ensures you’re better equipped to handle frustration and maintain the stamina needed for long-term success.
A.They quit their jobs out of the blue.
B.Understandably, it’s easy for them to feel this way.
C.In leadership, it is the unsung hero of long-term success.
D.One vital skill — frustration tolerance — is often overlooked.
E.Leadership can’t be defined by a one-size-fits-all approach.
F.Developing frustration tolerance isn’t easy, but it’s possible.
G.Also, remember to prioritize rest and create space to recharge.

Vacations are an essential part of every person’s life. Following long seasons of hard work, it is well deserved to get away from busy schedules and enjoy nature.
While tourism is good, it has its dark side. Besides emission-based pollution, tourism also contributes heavily to plastic pollution. This kind of pollution can be reduced by advocating for sustainable vacationing. 1 When it comes to ecotourism, your inspiration for others to take action is equally important.
2 If a park says no to feeding wildlife, simply avoid feeding them. Most times, what we interpret as affection for wildlife puts them at risk. If parks allowed every person to feed animals, chances of the animals dying from food poisoning are high.
In our efforts to protect nature, we may fail to appreciate other people’s cultures. The local communities in the Amazon are a part of the forest’s life. When you visit such local communities, you may find them participating in some practices that may seem unfriendly to the ecosystem or wildlife. 3 Trying to listen and interact with communities opens more doors to bring in change than criticism does.
Most people are not sustainability conscious._ 4 We have many ways to be sustainable and one is sharing your ideas. The sustainable option you choose may seem absurd to another person. However, sharing your experience may help others have different perspectives.
At the end of the day, sustainable vacationing should help you not only reduce negative environmental impact but also awaken society to such a reality. 5 However, every small step contributes to a more sustainable world.
A.No rule fits all situations concerning this topic.
B.The reason for this is that they think it cannot be achieved.
C.Protect our lives from potential danger by following regulations.
D.The best way to care for nature and wildlife is to follow the rules.
E.Instead of being critical, take your time to learn from their practices.
F.An ecotourist focuses on protecting nature, culture and social practices.
G.The term ecotourism is often used interchangeably with sustainable tourism.

Xena Biffert, a district science consultant, started to do a lot of backward planning when taking students outside to meet curricular (课程的) outcomes. This approach allows curriculum connection and encourages students’ focus and interest to lead the way. Here are four tips for practicing backward planning with your students. 1
Know your curriculum.
Many topics arise organically, and you can cover them through mini-lessons along the way. One way to deepen that knowledge is to print it out and make a habit of reviewing it daily. 2 First, you develop a familiarity with it. Second, you can see where you can make that connection naturally where the students’ interests meet.
Begin the year with a learning plan and a mind map.
Having guiding questions has helped Xena form and follow a plan for the year. 3 For example, “How are we all interconnected?” and “What is our story?” She can assess outcomes using this plan throughout the school year.
Get students outside regularly.
4 . This culture creates an opportunity to form and answer questions about what happens outdoors and how it connects to other topics. As the emergent learning arises and there is daily reflection on it, knowledge and understanding emerge. Through this intentional work and reflection, teachers will be well equipped to answer questions in the process.
5
It is important for students to reflect on their observations. We often don’t get time to reflect in our fast-paced classrooms. Often, reflection is combined with assessment. An easy starting point is journaling, because it is a thought process accessible to students in every grade.
A.Outside learning builds a culture.
B.Work out a plan for regular journaling.
C.Make time for student reflection like journaling.
D.Such guiding questions often arise in the backward planning.
E.These may allow you greater flexibility to do outdoor learning.
F.Her reasoning for looking at the curriculum every day is twofold.
G.Xena creates a mind map using the big idea behind the questions.

Sedimentay rock (沉积岩) is a type of rock that covers about three fourths of Earth’s land surface. 1 These layers can be seen clearly in steep rock walls.
There are many different kinds of sedimentary rock. 2 Some sedimentary rocks form as wind and water leave behind small bits of rock and sand. Others form from chemicals or from the remains of living things.
The most common kinds of sedimentary rock consist of deposits left behind by water. The water wears away rocks and carries away sand and small bits of rock. These minerals are deposited in many places. Over time, the deposits build up into layers. 3 The weight of the layers presses the bits of rock together. Water seeps through the layers, leaving minerals that cement the bits together to form rock.
Some of the rocks formed by wind and glaciers are loess and tillite. 4 This yellow rock covers large regions of the world. A rock made up of large bits of rock that have combined together is called tillite.
5 Chalk and coal are two kinds of rock that form in this way. Chalk forms from animal skeletons and shells that gather on the floor of the sea. Coal is formed from the remains of plants. Over time, the layers of dead matter become solid chalk and coal. All sedimentary rock takes thousands of years to form.
A.But they have different features.
B.Each kind forms in a different way.
C.Chalk and coal come from the same substances.
D.Sedimentary rock can even form from the remains of living things.
E.It is formed when minerals and other matter are deposited in layers.
F.Weak rock formed from the dust blown by the wind is called loess.
G.Over thousands of years, old layers of matter are covered by new layers.

Patience is a virtue because it cultivates inner strength and sound judgment. In a world that often feels rushed and demanding, the ability to wait calmly and tolerate delays really empowers us to make clear-headed decisions. 1 Thus it can prevent us from making choices in a hurry that could have negative consequences.
With patience, we’re able to handle challenges with a level head. It helps us to focus on long-term goals rather than short-term setbacks. Things can’t always go according to plan. 2 It gives us the strength and determination to remain optimistic. Cultivating patience allows us to appreciate the process of growth and helps us handle difficulties with grace.
3 But we can remain calm, peaceful, and happy regardless. Patience plays its most important role in our interactions with people. With patience, we don’t explode at people easily. We work on gathering more information and looking for a solution instead.
Another important key to patience is gratitude. Instead of focusing on what we want right now, we focus on being grateful for what we already have. When we are grateful for what we have, we improve our ability to be patient. 4 If you resist this, you suffer. That suffering creates more impatience. But if you accept that one of the guarantees of life is change, you will relax.
Patience is being present, examining your options, and working to move forward. If things work out, then great. But if they don’t, then we try something else. It’s just that simple. There is so much good in developing the virtue of patience. It takes work, it takes effort, but there are so many benefits of developing patience. 5
A.It’s necessary to make early plans.
B.However, we must realize that life changes.
C.This promotes a great sense of achievement.
D.Patience may not always give us what we want.
E.Being patient helps us avoid acting out of anger.
F.Patience improves our ability to deal with frustration.
G.With patience, you will find life flows more beautifully.

Keeping a travel journal is one of the best ways to keep the memory of a trip alive. There’s nothing like going back and reading your own words describing a day in a new place. 1 . Keeping a journal while on the road is a way to make the memories richer. I can squeeze more value out of them.
For people unaccustomed to writing on a daily basis, keeping a travel journal doesn’t have to be hard. 2 . I usually set aside 15—20 minutes before going to sleep.
When keeping a travel journal, I recommend focusing on the highlights of each day, rather than doing an hour-by-hour description. 3 : What made you smile, laugh, or cry? What did you eat or smell in the air? What were the locals doing? I like to pop in small history lessons for context, like the ages of monuments or sayings that might be of interest to your future self.
While I recommend paper journals for daily writing, it doesn’t hurt to have a multi-media approach. On the bus in Sri Lanka, it was too bumpy (颠簸的) to write by hand, so I used my phone to take notes as thoughts occurred. 4 .
Some travelers recommend carrying a glue stick, so you can add tickets and other bits of paper to each day’s entry. Writing down street names and listing unusual items are other fun ways to get your creative juices flowing.
5 . You’ll find that the end result is well worth the effort. It becomes a treasured possession, something that will make you smile and will be appreciated down the road.
A.Ask yourself some questions
B.It requires only a small effort
C.Keeping a travel journal should be fun
D.For example, it can cause some problems
E.Of course, that was only when paper was not available
F.This turned out to be a rich store of random information
G.I think of my travel journals as extending and preserving my trips

Psychologists have defined nostalgia (怀旧) as a self-conscious, social emotion, bittersweet but primarily positive. 1 . Often nostalgia involves sensory stimuli. For example, the smell of autumn leaves might arouse an intense longing for your childhood home.
2 . It involves many parts of the brain, including some that are involved in self-reflection, autobiographical memory, emotional regulations, and reward processing.
Nostalgia was originally viewed as an emotional disease when it was first defined in the late 17th century. And, crucially, it often occurs when people are experiencing negative moods or having bad experiences. 3 , as researchers found in 2008. Another is bad weather.
However, despite its association with negative emotions, nostalgia does not cause or worsen unhappiness. 4 , one that brings relief from a negative mood. Psychologists writing in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology in 2006 found that arousing nostalgia in experiments strengthened people’s social bonds, and boosted their positive feelings about themselves.
Scholars aren’t sure exactly why nostalgia works; some have speculated that reminiscing (追忆) about happy memories affirms “valued aspects of the self” in situations when we might otherwise feel lonely or unworthy. No matter how nostalgia works, the science to date finds more than enough evidence to conclude that it is good for us. 5 , so we’re better prepared to cope with bad moods when they arise.
A.Rather, nostalgia is a defense response to unhappiness
B.Almost everyone experiences nostalgia
C.Given its benefits, we could all gain from cultivating it consciously
D.It develops out of happy memories mixed with a desired for the past
E.Neuroscientists have found that it is a complex cognitive phenomenon
F.Nostalgia is of great significance to mental health
G.Loneliness can be a trigger

If you encounter a stressful situation or a major disappointment, how do you react? You might not think about it, but your ability to deal with challenges and emotions affects the quality of your life and your happiness. Try to learn some coping skills that allow you to still see some positives in a negative event. 1
Stress can affect your sleep, making it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep. Turning to medicine is one way to deal with this, but it s not a healthy option. 2 Avoid consuming caffeine later in the afternoon or during the evening, and stop doing any mentally stimulating activities, like working, at least a few hours before it’s time to go to bed. You can spend some quiet time reading to relax your body.
3 When doing exercise, you’ll feel more relaxed. Make exercise a standard part of your daily routine for stress-reducing benefits, and pay attention to when you’re feeling stressed so that you can get out for a quick walk, run, or other physical activity.
Relaxation techniques are a kind of healthy dealing mechanism. 4 Some people find the use of some sentences, like “I am talented” or “I deserve this job”, to be helpful, while others find stress relief in meditation (冥想). Mindfulness is another helpful technique. 5 It can help you live in the present and better process and deal with the sources of your stress. So you need to focus your attention on something that best suits you.
These skills are skills that you will use for your entire life, so putting the time into developing healthy coping methods is well worth the investment.
A.Usually, these skills are personal.
B.A healthy skill shouldn’t negatively impact your sleep.
C.In fact, you can reduce some form of stress every day.
D.Exercising in response to stress is one healthy approach
E.These skills contribute to many aspects of your life and behavior.
F.Instead, try some techniques to help you get a good night’s sleep.
G.It involves changing the way that you think and restructuring negative thoughts.

We all know that first impressions are important and that they are lasting. That’s why we work hard to make great first impressions. 1
First impressions might overshadow your abilities. When you are hired in an organization, a set of inferences are made about you. Making inferences is human nature. If you become known for your attention to details, you may never be seen as someone who can see the big picture. If you are the person who organizes all of the birthday celebrations, you may never be seen as management material. 2
First impressions can stamp you forever, often pre-determining the path of your career and how far you will be able to advance your career. These perceptions paint a picture of who people think you are. 3 This, in large part, is why your careers are held back, why you become frustrated, dissatisfied and even want to leave the present position.
But it doesn’t have to come to that if you can unlock hidden aspects of your value. Talk about what you are reading or a project you are working on at home with coworkers and your manager when appropriate. This can demonstrate other skills you possess. Embrace (接受) new things and become knowledgeable about your company and industry. 4 Volunteer in your company. It is a good way to give yourself the opportunity for others to see you in a way that is outside of your defined role.
5 As people get to know you better, they will recognize your diverse interests and capabilities, potentially opening new doors for career advancement.
A.Here are some useful suggestions for you.
B.Arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible.
C.Thus, you can contribute in fresh and unexpected ways.
D.It is often extremely difficult for people to change them.
E.Whatever labels, they prevent people seeing your other capacities.
F.Nevertheless, the same first impressions can block our career progress.
G.By expanding your knowledge and network, you can reshape others’ perceptions.

Learning a language is full of fulfilling steps, from the excitement of your first conversation with a fluent speaker to the intellectual challenge of mastering grammar rules. But at some point, you need to handle an unavoidable task. 1 Here are our top tips for absorbing new English words efficiently!
Flashcards are a great tool, especially for beginners. However, make sure to practice the words you learn in different contexts. For example, if you learn food-related words, try reading an English recipe to see how they're used. 2 This way, you can focus on words you've encountered in your studies, making them easier to remember.
The saying "use it or lose it" applies perfectly to vocabulary. If you don't use new words, you'll forget them. 3 Ideally, practice it in conversation with an English speaker. For instance. after learning haircut-related vocabulary, visit an English-speaking barber to test your new words.
4 Studies show that handwriting helps you remember information better than typing. The reason isn't entirely clear, but it could be because writing requires more time and intentional movement. This simple trick can make a big difference in remembering vocabulary.
Another trick is to note down the new words whenever you encounter them. Each word you record comes with its own context, making it easier to remember. 5 Over time, your notebook will become a valuable resource for expanding your vocabulary.
Over time, these small intentional efforts will build a strong foundation for fluency. With patience and persistence, you'll find yourself confidently using new words in conversations, reading, and writing, bringing you closer to your language goals.
A.You have to memorize a bunch of words.
B.Will typing replace handwriting one day?
C.There is no need to worry about your language learning.
D.When you learn a word, try to use it in real-life situations.
E.Start small by writing down five new words per study time.
F.You can also create your own flashcards instead of using pre-made ones.
G.Writing new words by hand may seem old-fashioned, but it's surprisingly effective.

Just as your body needs exercise to stay healthy, so does your brain. Modern neuroscience (神经科学) reveals that the brain possesses lifelong neuroplasticity. That means you can boost the ability to renew neural pathways at any age. 1
Building real-world social plans offers a powerful way to activate the brain. Live human interaction has multiple benefits, including preventing isolation. Make a date to try something new with a friend. 2 Such activities generate compound stimulation that sparks collaboration between brain regions, a benefit rarely achieved through isolated tasks.
Physical movement, particularly dance, provides unique cognitive (认知的) benefits. 3 Whether it’s country and western line dancing or following a salsa routine, synchronizing your body to choreography gives you the opportunity to blend creativity and concentration.
Directing daily life without digital aids can also sharpen the mind. 4 It will engage the brain in decision making and spatial reasoning. This active exploration maintains cognitive flexibility and often reveals hidden gems—a charming cafe or an art gallery you'd otherwise overlook.
5 Modern hearing aids preserve auditory input, which is crucial for language processing and social engagement. If you’ve been saying “Sorry, can you repeat that?” a lot lately, consult with a doctor. Hearing aids are tiny and available OTC these days! A hearing boost helps keep the brain stronger as you age.
A.Seize the chance to hit the dance floor.
B.Equally important is hearing maintenance.
C.You can go and take a painting class or see a play.
D.Turn off GPS and use an old-fashioned paper map.
E.Muscle memory significantly slows cognitive decline.
F.Such extended learning can help improve your memory.
G.The key lies in doing things to stimulate the brain networks.

1.根据下文“When the other person suggests that they want to talk, do something to show that they have your full, undivided attention. Close the book you’re reading or put down your phone and face your body towards them with open arms to show them that you're ready to listen.(当对方暗示他们想要说话时,做一些事情来表明他们已经得到了你全心全意的关注。合上你正在读的书或放下你的手机,张开双臂,把你的身体面向他们,告诉他们你准备好倾听了)”可知,本段是说告诉对方你做好了倾听的准备,B项“表现出你愿意倾听”符合语境,故选B。
2.空后“think about questions to ask that can grant you clarity.(考虑问一些能让你清楚的问题)”提到考虑问一些能让自己清楚的问题,D项“如果你对手头的话题感到困惑”与下文衔接得当,故选D。
3.根据下文“For example, ‘What does this mean? Who can we hold responsible, how, and why?’ This encourages others to speak more.(例如,‘这是什么意思?我们能让谁负责,如何负责,为什么负责?’这会鼓励别人多说话)”可知,此处是说问问题,C项“多问一些调查性问题”符合语境,故选C。
4.上文“If you have a question about something or need clarification, don’t interrupt the person while they’re talking.(如果你对某事有疑问或需要澄清,不要在别人说话的时候打断他们)”提到,不要在别人说话的时候打断他们,空处应是紧接着指出正确做法,F项“相反,等他们说完自己的想法再回应”符合语境,故选F。
5.上文“Record yourself talking and see if you start to depart from the topic.(录下自己的谈话,看看自己是否开始跑题了)”提到录下自己的谈话看看自己是否跑题了,G项“如果是这样,挑战一下自己,在一分钟内把你的观点表达出来”符合语境,和下文“Once you’re able to do that, try to make your point in 30 seconds.(一旦你能做到这一点,试着在30秒内表达你的观点)”都是讲如果说话时跑题该怎么做,故选G。

1.上文“It’s generally assumed that these friendship breakups result from different travel preferences or lack of conflict resolution skills.(人们普遍认为,这些友谊的破裂是由于不同的旅行偏好或缺乏解决冲突的能力)”是描述对于旅行结束后友谊破裂人们普遍认为的原因,B项“我认为这是两者的结合”作者提出自己的看法,B项中“both”指代上文“different travel preferences”和“lack of conflict resolution skills”,故选B。
2.根据下文“Regarding accommodations, for instance, you’d rather check into a Youth Hostel than a five-star hotel so that you can spend more on good meals. What need you prioritize should get across to your friends(关于住宿,例如,你宁愿入住青年旅馆而不是五星级酒店,这样你可以花更多的钱在美食上。你优先考虑的需求应该告诉你的朋友)”可知,本段是说要和朋友说清楚预算和需求,D项“坦白你的预算和喜好”适合作为本段主旨句,故选D。
3.根据上文“Do your friends prefer a structured itinerary (行程) that starts at 7 a.m., or would they like to rise at their leisure and wing it for the day? Are they down to party until dawn, or do they want to call it a night by 10 p.m.?(你的朋友们是喜欢早上7点开始的有组织的行程,还是喜欢在空闲的时候起床,然后自由地度过一天?他们是准备派对到天亮,还是想在晚上10点前结束?)”可知,此处是讲设定行程的重要性,G项“设定行程预期可以帮助你有效地计划旅行”符合语境,故选G。
4.上文“Are you one who rigidly sticks to a travel itinerary and allows zero flexibility?(你是一个严格遵守旅行计划,不允许任何灵活性的人吗?)” 下文“I find it helpful to have a loose itinerary shared before the trip. You can always revise your daily schedule(我发现在旅行前有一个自由的行程安排是很有帮助的。你可以随时修改你的日程安排)”提到自由、灵活的行程安排,和上文“严格遵守计划、不允许任何灵活性”相反,故E项“如果答案是肯定的,你将不得不做出改变”符合语境,E项中的“answer”呼应上文问题,故选E。
5.根据下文“It’s everyone’s vacation, so everyone should get independent periods to use as they wish.(这是每个人的假期,所以每个人都应该有自己的假期)”可知,每个人都应该有属于自己的时间,C项“别忘了留出独处的时间”符合语境,故选C。

1.根据上文“In ancient times, the more information our ancestors had, the more likely they were to survive. However, nowadays, this is the first time in history that humans have been exposed to such a constant flow of information. While it’s important to stay informed, too much information can make us feel confused and anxious. As we all know, too many high-calorie foods can lead to obesity.(在古代,我们的祖先拥有的信息越多,他们存活下来的可能性就越大。然而,如今,这是人类历史上首次面临如此源源不断的信息洪流。虽然随时了解各种信息很重要,但过多的信息会让我们感到困惑和焦虑。众所周知,过多的高热量食物会导致肥胖。)”可知,上文提到在古代信息多利于生存,现在信息过量会让人困惑焦虑,还以高热量食物导致肥胖作类比。选项F“Similarly, this new information overload encourages over consumption.(同样地,这种新的信息过载会导致过度消费。)”
2.根据上文内容“We’ re not just seeking relevant information to increase our chances of survival anymore. We fall into rabbit holes, scroll (滚屏) our feeds mindlessly, and watch video after video by clicking on the recommended links.(我们不再仅仅是为了增加生存几率而去寻找相关信息。我们陷入信息的无底洞,无意识地滚动浏览信息推送,点击推荐链接,一个接一个地观看视频。)”可知,上文描述了人们陷入信息中,无意识地滚屏、看推荐视频等行为。选项B“We are addicted to information.(我们对信息上瘾了。)”
D“Subscribing to many newsletters can quickly become a mess.(订阅许多时事通讯很快就会变得一团糟。)” 同时自然引出下文“Make sure to set up filters.(一定要设置好筛选器。)”。故选D。
4.根据上文“Dress the table. Shape your environment to make sure you’re not overly tempted to have access to too much useless information.(整理环境。塑造你的环境,以确保你不会过度受到诱惑而接触到过多无用的信息。)”可知,本段主题是整理环境,即塑造环境避免接触过多无用信息。选项E“You can also adopt some effective strategies to reduce distractions.(你也可以采用一些有效的策略来减少干扰。)”
5.根据下文“It’s incredibly effective to block time for reading stuff online. If you’re really struggling with information addiction, you can even put a timer on. This will force you to prioritize information that really matters.(为在线阅读内容安排特定时间非常有效。如果你真的被信息成瘾所困扰,你甚至可以设置一个定时器。这将迫使你优先处理真正重要的信息。)”可知,该段主要讲的是安排在线阅读内容的时间。选项C“Schedule your content consumption.(安排你的内容消费时间)”符合本段主旨。故选C。

1.由上文“As a leadership consultant for many years, I’ve found many of the leaders I work with report feeling frustrated (沮丧的) as they face the continuous change and uncertainty in the growing challenges of their roles.(作为一名多年的领导力顾问,我发现与我共事的许多领导者在面对角色不断增加的挑战中的持续变化和不确定性时,都感到沮丧。)” Understandably, it’s easy for them to feel this way.(可以理解,他们很容易有这种感觉。)
2.由上文“Sadly, in the world of leadership training, we often celebrate qualities like decisiveness, innovation, and resilience (抗逆力).
3.由上文“According to the psychological definition, frustration tolerance involves the capacity to bear discomfort, regulate emotional responses, and maintain a forward mindset in the face of challenges. (根据心理学定义,挫折容忍力包括在面对挑战时承受不适、调节情绪反应和保持积极心态的能力。)”可知,这里对挫折容忍力的定义进行了阐述,空格处要进一步说明挫折容忍力在领导力中的作用等。而C项In leadership, it is the unsung hero of long-term success.(在领导力方面,它是长期成功的无名英雄。)
4.由下文“Leaders can train their frustration tolerance by pursuing goals outside of leadership that don’t offer instant rewards. (领导者可以通过追求领导力之外不能立即带来回报的目标来培养自己的挫折容忍力。)”可知,这里讲述了领导者培养挫折容忍力的方法,空格处应该是引出培养挫折容忍力相关内容的句子。而F项Developing frustration tolerance isn’t easy, but it’s possible.(培养挫折容忍力并不容易,但并非不可能。)
5.由上文“These experiences build resilience and reinforce frustration tolerance as a transferable skill. (这些经历能增强韧性,并将挫折容忍力强化为一种可迁移的技能。)”可知,这里提到了经历对增强韧性和挫折容忍力的作用,空格处应该与如何进一步提升或保持这种能力等相关。而G项Also, remember to prioritize rest and create space to recharge.(此外,要记住优先安排休息,为恢复精力留出空间。)

【答案】1.G 2.D 3.E 4.B 5.A
1.根据上文“This kind of pollution can be reduced by advocating for sustainable vacationing.(通过提倡可持续度假,可以减少这种污染。)”和下文“When it comes to ecotourism, your inspiration for others to take action is equally important.(说到生态旅游,你激励他人采取行动同样重要。)”
2.根据下文“If a park says no to feeding wildlife, simply avoid feeding them.(如果公园禁止喂养野生动物,就不要喂养它们。)”
3.根据上文“When you visit such local communities, you may find them participating in some practices that may seem unfriendly to the ecosystem or wildlife.(当你访问这些当地社区时,你可能会发现他们参与了一些可能对生态系统或野生动物不友好的做法。)”和下文“Trying to listen and interact with communities opens more doors to bring in change than criticism does.(试着倾听并与社区互动,比为批评打开更多带来改变的大门。)”
4.根据上文“Most people are not sustainability conscious.(大多数人没有可持续意识。)”和下文“We have many ways to be sustainable and one is sharing your ideas.(我们有很多方法可以实现可持续发展,其中之一就是分享你的想法。)”
5.根据上文“At the end of the day, sustainable vacationing should help you not only reduce negative environmental impact but also awaken society to such a reality.(归根结底,可持续度假不仅应该帮助你减少对环境的负面影响,还应该唤醒社会对这一现实的认识。)”和下文“However, every small step contributes to a more sustainable world.(然而,每一个小步骤都有助于构建一个更可持续的世界。)” 故选A。

【答案】1.E 2.F 3.G 4.A 5.C

4.根据下文“This culture creates an opportunity to form and answer questions about what happens outdoors and how it connects to other topics.(这种文化创造了一个机会,让学生形成并回答关于户外发生的事情以及它与其他主题如何联系的问题。)” A“Outside learning builds a culture.(户外学习建立了一种文化。)” 故选A。
根据下文“It is important for students to reflect on their observations. We often don’t get time to reflect in our fast-paced classrooms. Often, reflection is combined with assessment. An easy starting point is journaling, because it is a thought process accessible to students in every grade.(让学生反思他们的观察结果是很重要的。在我们快节奏的课堂上,我们常常没有时间进行反思。反思通常与评估相结合。一个简单的起点是写日记,因为这是每个年级的学生都可以参与的思考过程。)”可知,本段主要讲述的是让学生有时间反思,如写日记。选项C“Make time for student reflection like journaling.(为学生留出像写日记这样的反思时间。)”

1.根据上文“Sedimentay rock (沉积岩) is a type of rock that covers about three fourths of Earth’s land surface.(沉积岩是一种覆盖地球陆地表面约四分之三的岩石。)”和下文“These layers can be seen clearly in steep rock walls.(在陡峭的岩壁上可以清楚地看到这些层。)”
2.根据上文“There are many different kinds of sedimentary rock.(有许多不同种类的沉积岩。)”和下文“Some sedimentary rocks form as wind and water leave behind small bits of rock and sand. Others form from chemicals or from the remains of living things.(一些沉积岩是由风和水留下的小块岩石和沙子形成的。其他的则由化学物质或生物遗骸形成。)”可知,空处承上启下,说明不同种类的沉积岩的形成方式不同。选项B“每种的形成方式都不同”符合语境。故选B。
3.根据上文“Over time, the deposits build up into layers.(随着时间的推移,沉积物堆积成层。)”和下文“The weight of the layers presses the bits of rock together. Water seeps through the layers, leaving minerals that cement the bits together to form rock.(层的重量把岩石碎片压在一起。水渗透过这些层,留下矿物质,将这些碎片粘合在一起形成岩石。)”可知,空处是在说明沉积岩层是如何随着时间的推移而形成的。选项G“在数千年的时间里,旧的物质层被新的物质层覆盖”符合语境。故选G。
4.根据上文“Some of the rocks formed by wind and glaciers are loess and tillite.(一些由风和冰川形成的岩石是黄土和冰碛岩。)”和下文“This yellow rock covers large regions of the world.(这种黄色的岩石覆盖了世界的大片地区。)”

【答案】1.E 2.F 3.D 4.B 5.G

1.上文“We all know that first impressions are important and that they are lasting. That's why we work hard to make great first impressions.(我们都知道第一印象很重要且持久。这就是为什么我们努力留下好的第一印象)” 说明第一印象的重要性以及人们为留下好印象所做的努力。空处和前文构成转折关系,引出下文关于第一印象不利影响的论述。所以F项“然而,同样的第一印象可能会阻碍我们的职业发展”符合语境。故选F。
2.上文“If you become known for your attention to details, you may never be seen as someone who can see the big picture. If you are the person who organizes all of the birthday celebrations, you may never be seen as management material.(如果你因注重细节而闻名,你可能永远不会被视为能看到大局的人。如果你是组织所有生日庆祝活动的人,你可能永远不会被视为管理人才)”通过举例说明第一印象给人带来的固定看法。空处总结上文,说明这些看法带来的负面影响。所以E项“无论是什么标签,它们都阻碍人们看到你的其他能力”符合语境。故选E。
3.上文“First impressions can stamp you forever, often pre-determining the path of your career and how far you will be able to advance your career. These perceptions paint a picture of who people think you are.(第一印象会永远烙印在你身上,常常预先决定了你职业发展的道路以及你能在职业生涯中走多远。这些看法描绘出了人们认为你是什么样的人)”说明第一印象对职业发展的影响以及形成的看法。空处承接上文,进一步说明改变这些看法的难度。所以D项“人们要改变它们往往极其困难”符合语境,该项中的them指代前文中的“These perceptions”。故选D。
4.上文“Embrace (接受) new things and become knowledgeable about your company and industry.(接受新事物,了解你的公司和行业)”以及下文“Volunteer in your company. It is a good way to give yourself the opportunity for others to see you in a way that is outside of your defined role.(在公司做志愿者。这是一个很好的方式,能让你有机会以超越既定角色的方式展现自己,让他人看到不一样的你)”强调要不断学习新知识。空处说明这样做的好处,并引出下文中的内容。所以C项“这样,你就可以以新鲜且意想不到的方式做出贡献” 符合语境。故选C。
5.下文“As people get to know you better, they will recognize your diverse interests and capabilities, potentially opening new doors for career advancement.(随着人们对你有了更好的了解,他们会认识到你多样的兴趣和能力,有可能为职业发展打开新的大门)”说明人们对自己有更好了解后带来的积极影响。

【答案】1.A 2.F 3.D 4.G 5.E
1.根据上文“But at some point, you need to handle an unavoidable task. Here are our top tips for absorbing new English words efficiently!(但到了某个时候,你需要处理一个不可避免的任务。)”和下文“Here are our top tips for absorbing new English words efficiently!( 以下是我们高效吸收新英语单词的顶级技巧!)” 故选A。
2.根据上文“However, make sure to practice the words you learn in different contexts. For example, if you learn food-related words, try reading an English recipe to see how they’re used.(但是,一定要在不同的语境中练习你学到的单词。例如,如果你学习与食物有关的单词,试着阅读英语食谱,看看它们是如何使用的。)”和下文“This way, you can focus on words you’ve encountered in your studies, making them easier to remember.(这样,你就可以专注于你在学习中遇到的单词,使它们更容易记住。)”
3.根据上文“The saying “use it or lose it” applies perfectly to vocabulary. If you don’t use new words, you’ll forget them.(“用进废退”这个说法完全适用于词汇。如果你不使用新单词,你就会忘记它们。)”可推知,此处讲述学习单词用经常使用才不会忘记,因此推断D项“当你学习一个单词时,试着在现实生活中使用它。”符合语境。故选D。
4.根据下文“Studies show that handwriting helps you remember information better than typing.(研究表明,手写比打字更能帮助你记住信息。)”
